Klotho Protein and Longevity I am reposting this information from last year because it is going to stay on my mind and I would like everyone to be aware of this peptide and the future of healing and what we can do now to be healthy. The science here is one part fascinating, one part complicated and equal parts necessary. Ok, it is time for a potential log step shift in the human understanding of neurological decline with age starting from birth. Enter the peptide, (C)Klotho, named after the greek goddess of fate who spins the thread of life for all. The Klotho protein was discovered by researchers looking at mice that aged faster than the general mouse population. These mice were noted to have a shortened lifespan, stunted growth, renal disease, blood vessel calcification, cardiac hypertrophy, hypertension, pulmonary disease, cognitive impairment, multi-organ atrophy and fibrosis. (Prud'homme et. al. 2022) When they looked closer, these mice were found to have hypoactive klotho proteins leading to an explosion of research over the past two decades to understand why. The next question was, could the hyperactive state provide an anti aging effect? To be clear the word anti aging should really say delayed inevitable aging. The answer was a resounding yes!..... Part 1 of Rain Prud'homme-Cranford (Rain C. Goméz) & her friends D. G. Barthe and Andrew Jolivette's visit to our porch this week. Louisiana Creole Peoplehood is the book they collaborated on. “Over the course of more than three centuries, the diverse communities of Louisiana have engaged in creative living practices to forge a vibrant, multifaceted, and fully developed Creole culture. Against the backdrop of ongoing anti-Blackness and Indigenous erasure that has sought to undermine this rich culture, Louisiana Creoles have found transformative ways to uphold solidarity, kinship, and continuity, retaking Louisiana Creole agency as a post-contact Afro-Indigenous culture. Engaging themes as varied as foodways, queer identity, health, historical trauma, language revitalization, and diaspora, Louisiana Creole Peoplehood explores vital ways a specific Afro-Indigenous community asserts agency while promoting cultural sustainability, communal dialogue, and community reciprocity.” Rain works within Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous Studies — literature; ecology; gender, two-spirit, and sexuality; Métis; Louisiana Creole; Red/Black Rhetorics; and critical mixed race. Porém, respondeu: Não as conheço. Alex Prud'homme had a special bond with his great aunt, Julia Child. I found Alex an affable and warm person. Perhaps that's because we both had a special connection to Julia – I was her dear friend. In 2016, I interviewed Alex Prud'homme while he was on a book tour promoting The French Chef in America. You can listen to our conversation here (and I highly recommend it – Alex is delightful!): https://www.marionkane.com/podcast/julia-childs-act-alex-prudhomme/ There are two staples from Julia in my cooking repertoire: Potatoes Anna and Lemon Loaf Cake. You'll find both of those recipes here: https://www.marionkane.com/recipe-2/potato/alex-prudhomme-julia-childs-act/ In 1999, Julia visited to the Toronto Star test kitchen where Julia sampled from delicious dishes of Toronto's most talented chefs. Today we have a great double episode of the show. Alex Prud'homme's new book, Dinner with the President, is a history of American food, politics, and 26 presidents, from George Washington starving at Valley Forge in 1777 to Donald Trump's burger banquets. It was such a good time having Alex on the show to talk about how food has been used as a diplomatic tool since the founding of the United States, and also dig into the legacy of his famous great aunt - Julia Child. Also on the show we welcome Ali Rosen to the studio. Ali is a cookbook author, TV food host, and successful rom-com novelist, having published the hit novel Recipe for Second Chances. She is also the author of the new cookbook, 15 Minute Meals. On this episode we talk about what makes a 15 minute meal, and how she writes her food-focused fiction. It's such a fun talk, I hope you enjoy it.Do you enjoy This Is TASTE? Special for the day after Thanksgiving. What a president eats can tell you a lot about the man. What he serves to people at the White House is also revealing. Prud'homme is the author, with his great aunt Julia Child of My Life in France, a New York Times bestseller and the inspiration for half of the movie, Julie and Julia. Alcohol has been navigating a new social landscape in America and Canada since COVID hit. While there were signs that alcohol consumption was rising with lockdowns, there's also been more spaces for conversation around the use of alcohol as a drug, or trickier relationships with drinking and binge drinking, amidst a backdrop of the drug use crisis that is sweeping across families of all types with changes in drug supply and challenges with cost of living. It is a lot to navigate, so I brought back my favourite beer and diversity expert to talk through it, Ren Navarro. Ren runs B.Diversity Group, and is certified by some of the world's largest alcohol programs, including Prud'homme, WSET, Cicerone, and AFicioNAdo (an alcohol free certification). She has appeared on national television talking about the historical aspects and new trends in alcohol, and the benefits of stronger communities. In 2018, Ren created Beer. Diversity., a company and advocacy group whose focus was for folks to be able to have open conversations, one beer at a time. With the evolution of this company into non-alcoholic spheres, she introduced B.Diversity in early 2023. This amalgamation aims to create safer spaces in which to have more open and honest conversations to support and create meaningful change in a multitude of industries. Today she's on the show to speak to what has shifted with the beer industry since she was last on in early 2020 (pre-COVID, which is wild!), and her transition into championing diversity and inclusion through working with breweries to train and aid those affected by the opioid and drug crisis in Canada. We also discuss the variety of non-alcoholic beverages on the market, along with how to learn about and access them, and the lessons she's learned as she's evolved her company while continuing to bring diversity to the forefront of learning and working relationships. Today on Here's Where It Gets Interesting, Sharon sits down with author Alex Prud'homme about his book, Dinner with the President, all about White House food. He is the coauthor of his aunt Julia Child's memoir, My Life in France, and merges Presidential history with dishes that were the height of sophistication at one point. An on ramp to this book and conversation can be summarized in this passage: “Presidential meals often had personal meaning, and sometimes contained coded political messages. James Garfield and Dwight Eisenhower liked bowls of squirrel soup. William Howard Taft had a taste for possum. Zachary Taylor died after eating cherries and drinking cold milk. Woodrow Wilson had chronic indigestion and consumed dubious elixirs, yet he and Herbert Hoover saved millions of lives with innovative food policies. The gourmand Theodore Roosevelt and his gourmet cousin Franklin D. Roosevelt led the nation over bison steaks and terrapin soups. (A gourmand is someone who eats and drinks to wretched excess. A gourmet is a connoisseur of fine dining.) JFK liked clam chowder, LBJ favored chili, Richard Nixon ate cottage cheese almost every day, and George W. Bush liked ballpark hot dogs. The presidents' food choices reflected the state of the nation.”Hosted by: Sharon McMahonGuest: Alex Prud'hommeExecutive Producer: Heather JacksonAudio Producer: Jenny SnyderResearcher: Valerie Hoback Hosted on Acast. This week, The Book Case welcomes journalist Alex Prud'homme! His new book Dinner with the President explores the long history of food and American diplomacy. Did you know that the purchase of Pearl Harbor came about because of the first official state dinner ever? Did you know that many believe our involvement in WWII was predicated on a king and hot dog? These are all great stories and this book is packed with them. Find out why Julia Child played and still plays a central role in White House culinary philosophy and what Nixon ate almost every day for lunch….it's all fascinating! There were so many great stories we didn't want you to miss any of them, so we forgo a bookstore this week.Dinner with the President by Alex Prud'homme Books mentioned in the podcast: The French Chef in America by Alex Prud'homme My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex Prud'homme The Cell Game by Alex Prud'homme The Ripple Effect: The Fate of Fresh Water in the Twenty-First Century by Alex Prud'homme Hydrofracking: What Everyone Needs to Know by Alex Prud'homme France is a Feast: The Photographic Journey of Paul and Julia Child by Alex Prud'homme and Katie Pratt
