The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Episode 128 Woke Marxism has no limiting principles. It is, in fact, openly hostile to any such boundary on its own madness. As a result, it possesses no mechanisms to prevent the implementation of the worst possible ideas, as we often see, including in the education of young children. We have already seen this with drag queens, sex, sexuality, pleasure-based sex education, divisive Critical Race Theory in education, "gender affirming care" and transition, and who knows how much else. Now we confront "sanism" as a prejudice keeping the insane out of the classrooms of little kids. Sanism, according to the Woke, is an unjust privileging of sanity over insanity, and a handful of Canadian education researchers at Guelph University in Ontario have published the case (https://childcarecanada.org/documents/research-policy-practice/22/07/sanism-early-childhood-education-and-care-cultivating-space) for bringing madness and mad people into early childhood education and care. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host James Lindsay reads through this terrible idea and laments that it wasn't one of his own "Grievance Studies" hoax papers from a few years back. Join him to push the limits of belief and to understand why we must stop Woke Marxism from taking a single further step forward in our societies. She earned her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from McMaster University and went on to complete her MA and doctorate at the esteemed Royal Roads University, where her research focused on Indigenous food systems. Dr. Xavier is a passionate and dedicated teacher who has designed and delivered courses in the areas of Contemporary Indigenous Issues, Indigenous Food Security and Food Systems, Indigenous Food Sovereignty, Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Methodologies. Dr. Xavier is a true scholar whose research interests include the study of Indigenous food security and sovereignty, Indigenous land connections and re-matriation, Indigenous food ways, and Indigenous ways of knowing. Her exceptional work in this area was recently recognized when she was awarded the new McMaster Indigenous Research Institute “Indigenous In-Community Scholar Fellowship” in 2020. This project aims to expand the understanding and capacity around food security and sovereignty in Dr. Xavier's community of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Her achievements were further recognized when she was awarded the prestigious Petro Canada McMaster Young Innovator Award for 2021-22, which allows undergraduates to engage in Indigenous research and focuses on building community. Dr. Xavier's appearance on Nicolette's first PhD podcast was a tour-de-force. She shared her insights on a range of issues, including the root causes of disease, food sovereignty versus food security, and the impact of colonization on access to nutritious foods that are part of one's heritage. She also touched on the ways in which racism acts as a barrier to food and disease, and how trauma can cause disease. Dr. Xavier underscored the importance of listening to our bodies and the foods it craves. She passionately believes that educating the next seven generations of people about food and history is vital, and that even social media can play a role in influencing the kinds of foods people are exposed to. Dr. Xavier's upbringing was centered around whole foods, as her mom grew everything or traded for other foods and she reflects on how this all changed when they moved to Canada. He ticked my boxes, tasteful city centre apartment, accomplished speaker of three languages, wife in the country (clichéd Georgian Rectory but that was probably more her choice). He enjoyed cooking. One Health is a crucial concept in understanding global health as climate change and transnational travel impact local public health issues for vulnerable populations - such as impoverished children and communities without access to healthcare.Dr. Bernadette Dunham from the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University joins Yasmine Vaughan to discuss the idea that emerging diseases and existing medical conditions that threaten human life are better understood in the context of “one health.”Dr. Dunham graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph University in 1975 and joined a mixed animal practice. She received her Ph.D. in cardiovascular pathophysiology in 1984 from Boston University and then served as Director of Laboratory Animal Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at the State University of New York Health Science Center, Syracuse, N.Y. until 1995. She was recruited to be the Assistant Director with the American Veterinary Medical Association's Governmental Relations Division in Washington D.C. and interacted with Members of Congress and their staff to heighten their awareness of the diversity of the veterinary medical profession. For eight years, she helped them think beyond the concept of local vets caring for companion animals and food-producing animals to grasp the very important role that Veterinarians and Animal Scientists play in public health – zoonotic diseases being one of the most important areas for government policies and scientific research to address the growing threat for global dissemination of infectious disease transmitted from animals to humans. "One Health is a collaborative, multi-sectoral, and trans-disciplinary approach - working at local, regional, national, and global levels - to achieve optimal health (and well-being) outcomes, recognizing the interconnections between people, animals, plants and their shared environment." It's Your Call chats with Andrew Hyde, an ecumenical chaplain at Guelph University. Andrew is the first United Church Designated Lay Minister (DLM) to be interviewed on the program. Andrew is a United Church preacher's kid and grew up in the church. As a 10 year old, the 1988 United Church decision to open ordained ministry to all, regardless of sexual orientation, was a formative event in his own call and showed him just how complex and challenging ministry could be. While taking time to choose between becoming a minister like his father, or becoming a teacher like his mother, Andrew took a job as a youth minister, and he's still involved in young adult and campus ministry today. Andrew says, people are always called to where there is a need, and in his case, that was ministry with young adults, which is a specific niche that is both undeserved and a challenge because many young adults are seeking a spiritual home, but not active in congregational life. This generation of young adults has a strong desire for authenticity, Andrew has found, and this is both a gift and a challenge to the church, as it compels us all to live out our faith everyday, everywhere, not just on Sundays in church. Responding to this challenge has the potential to help us rethink ministry as we know it and embrace change by meeting people where they are at. Andrew Hyde is the author of My Daily Discoverment: 40 Days of Vocational Discernment with Young Adults, available from UCRDstore.ca.

Ch.1: Defence Minister Anita Anand says while the timeline for precisely when military sexual misconduct cases will be handed over to civilians isn't yet settled, she wants to move quickly on the recommendation to do so — as well as on the to-do list she has for the new role. Anand announced on Thursday that she has “accepted in full” a recommendation from former Supreme Court of Canada justice Louise Arbour that civilians, and not military investigators, should handle military sexual misconduct cases. Some on the content included in this episode... Where can nutrition pros find easy-to-understand credible science-based info on Foods and how much nutrition is in them Supplements - by active ingredient (nutrient) or brand quality certifications Health goals and medical conditions Where can nutrition pros dive into the studies themselves? What's PubMed? How do you find studies you're looking for? How do you know the studies are high-quality? More about our guests... Lindsay's love for Holistic Nutrition started after she developed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in 2008, and she learned how much of a role good food played in her health and wellbeing. She started her career in Molecular Biology and Genetics after graduating from Guelph University with a Bachelor of Science with Honours, working in labs doing research up until her family needed her at home. At that time, she completed the Natural Nutrition Program at CSNN in 2015 and has been integrating her knowledge of holistic nutrition with her family, friends, and clients. Her background in Biology, Biochemistry, and Genetics has helped give her a deeper understanding of the workings of nutrition and the role it has on the body, which she now shares with the students at CSNN and Grant MacEewan University. She is a firm believer in evidence based nutrition science and brings her passion on this topic to the classroom to ensure students are up to date on current research, which enables graduates to provide the best possible recommendations to their clients. --- Leesa Klich is on a mission to help credible research-based health professionals publish, share, and get found online with amazing content to build their practices and improve public health on an epic scale. Tall, funny, not looking for anything serious, I thought for fifty seven days that I’d met my match. He ticked my boxes, tasteful city centre apartment, accomplished speaker of three languages, wife in the country (clichéd Georgian Rectory but that was probably more her choice). He enjoyed cooking.Once I’d tutored him beyond the marital sex that he tried to foist on me, we seemed compatible. For a while. Until he fell in love with me."In this episode, Erin, Sharon, and special guest Ambika Thompson talk about using current events in short stories, when is it too soon, and how to use specific details to make them work.Ambika Thompson is a writer, musician and parent. Welcome to The Morning News Podcast for Thursday, November 12th. We begin with a focus on the Coronavirus crisis. We get reaction to news earlier this week of great strides being made in the creation of a vaccine – as well as some ‘myth busting' surrounding the virus. We speak with Lenora Saxinger, Infectious Disease Specialist with the University of Alberta. Next we look at the increased use of Artificial Intelligence in the health care sector. We hear details of a new study from Guelph University, that finds Canadians have ‘trust issues' when it comes to the new tech. It's a ‘win' for consumers – but a financial ‘hit' for independent Travel Agents. We hear how refunds for travel impacted due to COVID-19 are hurting Travel Agents. And finally – in what appears to be an ‘unintended' consequence of the Pandemic…Canadians are more conscious now – compared to one year ago – about household food waste. Professionally his name is Dr. David Galbraith. I know him as my old friend, David, older sibling to my good friend Julie (who I did an informal improv theatrical piece with). When I last saw Dave - circa 1977 - he was studying Marine Biology at the University of Guelph. Subsequently, I incorrectly associate him with Guelph University and Marine Biology despite his well documented achievements as head of the science department at the Royal Botanical Gardens (Canada). Part of that irrational is because David, knowing me to be a film buff, invited me to see A W.C. Fields movie and a Marx Brothers movie at the UofG film club — or film department — who can remember? It was 1977. The effect of seeing those films on a big screen, with an audience, help catapult me from being merely a fan of film to turning film into something of a career. Asking David (Dr. Galbraith, rather) to join us on TMAY is a natural extension of that friendship that began so many years ago, and of a key moment in my film education. This interview is part reunion and part insight into two films — one classic/one bound to be a classic. Here is my friend David on Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival.
