Funny? Talented? Charming? You are that! Two sisters, who can’t take a compliment interview guests who are all these things and more, while making them equally uncomfortable in flattery. Shannon and Boni take you on an audio journey to meet their friends new and old. While you fold laundry! Which…
Who's Cane Fonda? What's it like to have the world try to kick your ass to an extreme humbling level. Our guest today is a bad bitch with mama bear vibes and major will to thrive in the face of the impossible. Mandy is a powerhouse that stays sarcastic and humble. We are all in a place where we can look back with admiration while she looks back in awe and new strength. Raw honest storytelling is one of the reasons Shannon and Mandy became friends in the first place so it seems only fitting to hear the GBS journey on this show. The heaviness of this very rare and widely unknown syndrome is balanced with humor here. And, in normal YAT episode fashion we talk nostalgia and youth fun. A wild ride to say the least. Welcome to what it's like to be our friend IRL.Mandy Morrison is mostly private on the interwebs nowadays but please comment any love and praise on her episode post, she will appreciate all of it.If you want to find out more information about Guillain Barre Syndrome there are many resources including THIS and hopefully Mandy's book in the near future too. Three whole years ago this podcast was only a twinkle in our eyes and an introduction episode in the drive. Our audio has gotten better and perhaps we've gotten wiser? With every guest we learn something so I think that tracks. A nice sister episode where we pump each other up about the accomplishments happening quite literally as we speak. A bit of a New Years resolution touch base too.We hear those of you that have asked for a bit more about us and we are truly trying to sit in the interview seat from time to time. It's fun to share the lives we live outside of hosting this super fun show for y'all. Thanks for thinking we are worth listening to for the last three years! And cheers to many more! This time it's us!! You can find our handles on Instagram at:@bonidutch and @urbanfarmfoods See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Another trip down memory lane? You betcha!! Have you ever been to a super mega ultra amazing pool party? What about an epic costume party? OK, do you just simple love to party? Then you will like this episode a bunch. Bon takes us on a journey with Kris and band life of yesteryear. With celebrity karaoke and music from so many incredible humans that it's almost impossible to name a favorite. But if you do have a favorite band there is a solid chance Kris has touched production on one or more of their albums. That's just a numbers thing because the talent that graces this mans wall of recognition is absolutely epic. He is an actual music genius and we get to hear about how and why. We also break down serious topics like Edward 40 hands and what it's like to smoke indoors. Squeeze into those skinny jeans but make sure you pee first because there are many sudden laugh attacks coming at you fast. Basically if you are someone who is into garage sales, super bands and you get really dead serious about halloween, you can rock with us.You can find everything Kris does from the links on his IG @kcrummett including all of his Interlace Audio works and general awesomeness. If you want to sit back in awe of this mans accomplishments you can also check out Kris Crummett because that is fucking impressive. You can find the sisters YAT at the usual spotsInstagramTwitterPatreonYou Are That merch is also available right now! Land lines and getting into conversations with friends moms. We talk about tattoo daydreams and fishing adventures. Brandon tells us what it's like to have a band fraternity brotherhood that generations of listeners are devoted to still as we speak. FTF? Next-door to Jesus (extra question mark). What's the difference between New York rooftops and Boni 3000 miles away? Are we going to stencil moose in a home decor of midwestern dream cabin HGTV? Have you ever wondered what it's like to quite literally be raised by wolves? Well it's very possible you'd grow up to be one of Portlands funniest people and one of our favorite funny people on the entire west coast. Arlo is not just a seriously funny comedian, they have a roster of writing, television appearances and movie roles under their belt too. Perhaps one of the most casually charming actors we've had the joy of hanging out with. Arlo is and endless well of childhood stories. Some will break your heart and some will leave you asking WTF we are all laughing about. Inappropriate? Absolutely! That's definitely part of this episodes magic. It's basically that and how hungry for candy we were after recording this one. Gotta warn you to pee before this one too. There's a lot of good hearty laughter to be had by all.You can find Arlos comedic gold on so many incredible platforms to watch full stand up sets, listen to other guest appearances on podcasts and also do check out their movies too. Once upon a time in Tokyo there was a musical show that was canceled on account of rain. OK, it was a huge typhoon. And allllll themusic players gathered calmly in the city. OK, they came into town bored and hungry and ready to party! And that's where this episode originates. Shannon met our extra ordinary guitar player in the crazy whirlwind of a modeling contract in Japan. The rest is history! No really, so much time passed between then and now that it's practically historical. But this episode is here and now, while we reminisce abut now and then. Gizz was a little rocker with solid ambitions. Some musical talent just knows they were meant for epic greatness. Find out where his first guitar came from. What he likes to drink. Because Valentine's Day has gotten weird y'all! The evolution of this Halmark holiday and the crazy interesting symbolism and stressful pressures of gift giving has made us dive deep into some real stuff. Really important things like what it means to have a ribbon tied a certain way on a bouquet of daisies. We ask why some foods feel sexier than others. And maybe we talk about deep philosophical poetic things too. Just kidding we don't do that last one. This episode is just good fun and wacky research. It's not everyday that you get to interview a massively talented touring musician who has a lot of interest in being a really good human. Zach is a Portland loving Alaskan who has a really infectious smile that lights up his whole face and sets the tone for the first part of this two part special. First we get into family love, travel chaos and long term friendships. As a bassist in a band so many people know from the radio and commercials and more, it's so refreshing to know how much he loves pet hamsters and cherry squares. There is so much more than music to this brother from another mother ( Hi Judy!). We all trip down music poster memory lane and hear awesome band mom stories galore. Plus Zach gives a very excellent tip for getteing the most out of a one day trip to a new place. The second part to this heavy hitter is a big honor for us. We are following the lead from our friends at the PTM foundation and asking April Holder to talk with us about topics that are often ignored because of the seriousness of cultural divide. April is an incredibly talented artist who has a snarky wit and sharp edge to her personality. We had the best time talking before this sit down and we had many hugs and laughs afterward too. But for this segment we are getting into the hard stuff so buckle up. Boni and Shannon ask several questions while listening to April and they know it may sound ignorant or off putting. In our opinion not asking is worse than asking the wrong things and learning how to be better. As we are in the week of Thanksgiving let's look at what we are mindful of and treat this "holiday" in a way that is respectful and inclusive. Being thankful everyday is something April touched on and it resonated.Thankful and grateful for these two beautiful souls and for all of you.Find Zach and April at the following social media spots. You can find Zach and his Portugal. The Man adventures here:@zacharycarothers@portugalthemanYou can find April on Instagram @aeon_fluxus and also on TikTokYou can find out more about the PTM Foundation online at www.ptmfoundation.org and on IG @ptmfoundationYou can find the YAT sisters at the regularly scheduled locations:InstagramTwitterPatreon - New Bonus Episodes and silly cutting room floor episodes coming soon. You Are That Merch!! This episode is a real circus of sarcasm. Puns and also top notch voice work have never shared such a beautiful hour together until now. You may think you hear new music from Bono but no! It's Tobin! He's not just a Jew Who Loves Trees. He is deeply interested in interesting things. The wit and charm of this show was taken to an all time high. The amount of things Boni Google searched was also at an all time high. We discussed the importance of what babies are made of. There was chatter of what a shark would be categorized as a furry. And of course there is plenty of sophisticated tree conversation. This trio of friends are like family so this episode is humongous! It's jam packed with laughter and love. Todd and Rachel and Alie, Oh My! Each of our guests has a unique and special tale about their marriage and each of them have more wise words for our soon to be wed host. Boni is working through her lead up to “I do” and all of this feels like really solid therapy as well as advice. It just goes to show how everyone looks back fondly at their day of union and chuckles about at least one thing. Feeling really grateful for great friends with a good sense of humor. We talk about how you just know you've found your person and the beauty of dong things your way. We also talk about skinny dipping! You can find Todd on several of our previous episodes because he's basically our brother from another mother! ( Hi Patty) But his debut episode Banjo Dubstep with us is delightful. You can listen to Rachel Strauss on her wonderful episode It Was A Tie that took place in paradise. Surprise!! You can listen to the original Alie Ward episode from 2018….. the week of Halloween when we run it for a Spooky Season encore episode ( and so we can focus on Bons wedding!!) Wedding bells are in the near future for our hostess duo because Boni is tying the knot and Shannon is part of her bridal squad! What better way to gear up emotionally for this special party of parties? Let's ask some of our betrothed guests how they did the damn thing. On this part of our compilations series we're talking with Sarah Hunt and Christine Lakin! Two very smart and funny gals with strong wills. While the end goal of being married was similar, these two wedding days couldn't be much more different. Each turned out exactly right though the planning, location and details are where things get wild. The whole point of showcasing these stories is to share the love and laughter behind the scenes. This episode is special to our hearts for many reasons. This very driven creative has her hands in a tons of candy jars. Quite literally. Because she owns SEVERAL candy stores!! But the main reason we fell madly in appreciative love with Andrea is that she is a parent of an autistic son just like Shannon. And she is a power artist with big dreams just like both sisters. Are you a fan of candy dots, or runts bananas, or (again) push pop shivs? If you love sweets you will be drooling about soda pop and candy you will be the most content because of the flow back into snack talk. Fresh out of lockdown and right into showbiz hustle and bustle! Chelsea had to turn on the charm in front of her idols while wielding hot glue guns and power saws. Dave is witty and also mocking with his knee jerk comedic responses to life. We talk about Kevin, as we often do on this show. There is a bunch of banter about uniformed gathering. We are in awe of the catolog of musical facts he has in that brain and there's some deep wisdom from Gene Simmons. Boni and Dave bonded over serious dog bite trauma. Who would Dave switch places with for a day? Who is he jealous of? He talks about totally shredding and how he got to this level of talent. Between making art, rocking out or writing a book this guy has a bunch of creative output but would he rather be obsessivly playing Led Zeppelin to his hearts content? Having a podcast or several podcasts makes Alison a professional conversationalist and an amazing guest. We chat about what she imagined her future being from the tween journalings of an animal lover. Childhood memories flood back and we dwell about Twilight again for some reason. There's a good bit about cults and family which can be similar. We suss out the difference between Law and Order SVU dramatics and True Crime dark stuff. Shannon tells what she put in her will and what happens to her chickens. Boni and Alison comiserate about youth sports. Things are always good on this show when we are holding our sides from laughing and this episode is painful in the best way. What do you get when you mix holiday parties and body glitter? A very good time with band boys and hippie dancing. Our guest this episode has the most gorgeous hair and and even more lovely personality. He's and extremely talented musician who is so humble about his craft. The reminiscing is heavy and beautifully nostalgic as Boni recalls some very meaningful musical connections while Pouyan has the girls in stitches about dogs in bows and high speed test drives with Russian music teachers. Playgrounds at night, childrens books and screaming fans. This episode really reminds us what venues really meant to us back in the late great 2000's. Come back in time but maybe also into the straight up virtual reality future with out very favorite Scary Kid who is totally going to be scaring more kids with the musical announcements in this show. This episode is going to leave you ultra mega inspired to do something creative. Our guest Janet of the Wokeface art movement here in Portland and honestly throughout the world now! A genuinely magical being with a vision for a more colorul world for all of us. There's an abundance of reminiscing of dinner parties past and hoping for the future with big dreaming of gassed up fantasy venues for dance parties. Wokeface has been a mostly anonymous street art evolution into Janet being the creative wild child as the face of her own bold brand. Admiration and positive conversation about being a creator weave into nostagic chat of high hopes and past jobs. We get amped up about which music feeds inspiration and the cartoons of our youth. The ice cream museum wouldn't hold a candle to a wokeface sumber party with fireflies and clouds and all the brainstorming that gets so wild. You can close your eyes and picture an epic vibrant place full of whimsy. Portland is so very lucky to have Janet and her talented art sprinkled in the wild. Plus, even though you can find so many of Janet's items for sale at loads of retailers all over the US, there's hot gossip about a physical Wokeface shop coming soon to the Portland area! This episode goes real hard about things love and Valentine's because sometimes we are allowed to dwell on those grade school memories. Are they romantic and whimsical? Not even a little bit. There's much self deprecating conversation about the awkward hideoes ways we saw our younger selves. Alex is a grade A baker who is as real as could be about growing up gay in a community that wasn't the most accepting only to open the very best tiny bakery in that exact same smallish town! Such a supportive and strong community advocate that you wouldn't recognize any of the self concious little loser he descibes with us. This is as much good, bad and ugly as it is sunshine, rainbows and sparkle. Get your best red, pink and purple craft supplies out so you can sit down and craft a doily card for somebody you adore. We talk tasty treats and solving the worlds customer service disrespect. We hope you apreciate the extremely accurate descritive visions of our youth that we paint for you. Raise your hand if you are a candy hoarder. The stories get real nasty and we manage to gross out epidemiologists! Is the devil in the details? Or does he go down to Georgia? Well we inadvertently write and rewrite scenarios from teen romcom to straight up musical theater. Our guests this episode are equally as awkwark as we reminisce about middle school dances and how we flourished in our own ways at these functions. Erin and Erin are both so incredibly fun and we unlock some personal insight to how they became science communication babes. Did we all have ticks? Which Erin would be content with first editions in a secret book room and which Erin wanted to be 007? Did we start a commune? You will have to listen to find out! Once again we all laugh so much our faces hurt which could be the theme of our podcast going forward into 2021 and we would be overjoyed. Cheers to second oldest children and ringleaders of trouble alike. No, we are not really putting the Molluscum contagiousum removal in the show notes. This is a trip down memory lane with a voice that has been in our ears here in Portland for well over twenty years. That math feels crazy so we took it back to gradeschool with Andy aka Tiny. Got right to the heart of Teeny Tiny and his childhood feelings about really important things like mayonnaise! We talk about being humorous as a defensive strategy in social situations both now and way back when. Sibling dynamics and good old fashioned dress up conversation will make you feel like you’ve got a little brother named Andrew and two big sisters like Shan and Bon.This studmuffin is just about the sweetest guy around and we are really excited to hear him back on the airwaves with his own podcast called Back Together!
