A version of this essay was published by firstpost.com at https://www.firstpost.com/opinion/shadow-warrior-comrade-kirillov-and-the-art-of-whistleblowing-13846569.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialOne of the great Raja Rao's slighter works is called Comrade Kirillov: it is what Graham Greene would have called an ‘entertainment', as opposed to the ‘novels' he wrote on themes of some gravity. I was reminded of the title in an altogether inappropriate way when I read of the assassination of General Kirillov in Moscow, allegedly by Ukrainian secret agents. Then I read of the tragic suicide of Suchir Balaji, a whistleblower and former employee at OpenAI, surely the most glamorous company in Silicon Valley these days. There is a thread here: it is not good for your health if you expose certain people or certain companies. You will pay a price. You may just be minding your own business, but you happen to be in the way. This is what happened to Indian nuclear and space scientists over the last few decades. Homi Bhabha's plane crashed in the Swiss Alps. Vikram Sarabhai died mysteriously at Halcyon Castle, Trivandrum, close to the space center that now bears his name.Dozens of lesser-known Indian space and nuclear scientists and engineers died too, inexplicably. The same thing happened to Iranian nuclear scientists. Nambi Narayanan was lucky to escape with his life (“Who killed the ISRO's cryogenic engine?”), though his career and reputation were ruined. My friend Dewang Mehta of NASSCOM died quite suddenly too. I wrote a tribute to him years ago, “The man who knew marketing”. In hindsight, I think he was a friend, not just an acquaintance. I remember some very human details about him: eg. he asked a mutual friend to introduce eligible women to him, just as I did. But I digress: I believe Dewang was as important to the Indian IT story as Bhabha and Sarabhai to nuclear and space: they made us believe, and we rose to the occasion. Then there was Lal Bahadur Shastri. The circumstances of his sudden death remain murky. And Sunanda Pushkar, Shashi Tharoor's wife, whom I was following on Twitter in real time. One night, she promised to make some startling revelations the next morning, presumably about dubious dealings in Dubai by the D Company. And lo! she was dead the next morning. It is hard not to think that there is a pattern. Not only here, but in the trail of dead bodies that follows the Clinton dynasty around. The Obama chef who drowned. The whistleblowing CIA and FBI agents who… just died. The list is long. People who are inconvenient end up in body bags. I remember reading that when Sarabhai died, his family did not even ask for a post-mortem.There are two broad patterns: geo-political assassinations and those for commercial reasons. In Kirillov's case, it was probably both.General Kirillov claimed that there were bio-labs in Ukraine, etc. where the Deep State was cooking up banned biological weapons, in an eerie echo of Peter Daszcak's Ecohealth Alliance and Anthony Fauci's NIAID allegedly aiding and abetting prohibited gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. He claimed biological crises were manufactured on demand to generate profits and increase government control. Presumably he opened a can of worms that the Deep State and Big Pharma didn't want opened. Off with his head! There is the ‘conspiracy theory' that the entire COVID-19 circus was a bioweapons project that went awry. It was intended to depopulate the world, especially of black and brown people, to which the IITD paper (that was forcibly withdrawn) alludes: the genes that seemed to have been inserted into the original virus were from India, Southeast Asia, and Kenya, if I remember right. Of course, the powers that be do not want shocking stuff like this to come out.It is straightforward to make it a false-flag operation with the Ukrainian SBU secret service to provide plausible deniability: much like the bombing of the NordStream pipeline. So exit, stage left, for Kirillov. As Sherlock Holmes might have said, “Follow the money”, or words to that effect. Cui bono?I really don't mean to trivialize human suffering, but to focus on the shadowy forces that organize and execute targeted assassinations. In particular, decapitation strikes can be devastating. In our own history, the loss of Hemachandra Vikramaditya in the Second Battle of Panipat, in 1526, to a stray arrow that hit him in the eye, was a point of inflexion.Similarly, at the Battle of Talikota in 1565, the capture and beheading of the aged Ramaraya by his own troops that had gone rogue turned the winning position of the Vijayanagar Empire into a headlong rout and obliteration for the city-state.The assassination of Ahmed Shah Masoud, the Commander of the Northern Alliance, with a bomb hidden in a news camera, turned the tide in Afghanistan in 2001. The American assassination of Qasem Soleimani of Iran in 2020 led to a significant erosion of Iran's position, for example in Syria. The silencing of whistle-blowers has, alas, become all too common. There were the allegations about Karen Silkwood in 1974, who died in a mysterious car crash as she was driving to meet a NYTimes reporter regarding problems at a plutonium processing plant run by Kerr-McGhee in Oklahoma. In 2003, David Kelly, a British weapons inspector who claimed there were indeed no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, was found dead. The verdict was suicide. In 2015, Alberto Nisman, an Argentine prosecutor known for his work on terrorism cases, was found dead days after he accused Iran of involvement in a car-bombing on a Jewish center. In March 2024, John Barnett, a former Boeing employee, was found dead from a gunshot wound in his truck, just before he was scheduled to testify in a whistleblower lawsuit. There was also Joshua Dean, who died of a strange infection in May 2024, shortly after Barnett's death. He worked for a company supplying parts to Boeing. In November 2024, Suchir Balaji, all of 26 years old, was found dead in his San Francisco apartment. In October, he had made allegations about OpenAI violating copyright laws. The bottom line: if you know something, just keep quiet about it. If you are a person of substance, take no risks, and be paranoid about your security. It's a pretty nasty world out there. The AI-generated podcast about this essay courtesy Google NotebookLM: 1050 words, 19 Dec 2024 This is a public episode. Recent months have seen Boeing, the world's largest aerospace firm, embroiled in multiple safety concerns, accidents, and reputational crises. Why is Boeing under intense scrutiny? What critical issues is it facing? In this episode, host Dev Goswami and defence expert Shiv Aroor delve into these pressing issues on their show, questioning the apparent decline of this once-revered company. What has led to Boeing's reputation plummeting to such lows? A series of incidents have spotlighted Boeing's troubles. Recently, an Alaska Airline Boeing 737 MAX 9 made an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, after a piece of the fuselage detached mid-flight. Similarly, an ANA Boeing 737-800 was forced to return to Japan when a cockpit window developed a crack midair. These incidents come on the heels of two devastating crashes involving Boeing 737 MAX jets five years ago, which killed 346 people and resulted in the grounding of all 737 MAX aircraft for nearly two years. The troubles don't end with technical failures. This year, two Boeing whistleblowers, Joshua Dean and John Barnett, died under mysterious circumstances, leading to suspicions of foul play. Their deaths have raised fears among other whistleblowers, with concerns that they might be intimidated or meet similar fates. Who's to blame for these incidents? What actions are officials taking? Besides, Boeing is a key supplier to India's defence, providing crucial equipment like the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III. India operates the largest fleet of C-17s outside the United States, essential for military airlift and humanitarian missions. What makes the C-17 Globemaster III impressive? Tune in! The C.O.W.S. Neutralizing Workplace Racism 05/10/24 Our beloved "Tumblin' Dice," a privileged black male who's allowed to operate a school bus transporting mostly White children, shared that he has now been charged with unprofessional conduct and terrorizing a White educator. It seems that a black dude questioning a White person about White educators Racially abusing him constitutes a threat - and may portend negro sexual aggression. We'll also revisit allegations of reckless and unsafe workplace culture at Boeing. Last week, we discussed the legal import of the term "whistleblower." This term confers legal protections to a worker who reports misconduct or criminal activity. Theoretically, without the the threat of unjust reprisals, workers will be less fearful about reporting misconduct. However, two White Boeing whistleblowers (Joshua Dean; John Barnett) have died under suspicious circumstances. Gus T. has said for years, the plantation is not safe. And Boeing mass manufactures weapons to kill. A number of courageous listeners shared about the emotional impact their job is having on their mental health. Under the System of White Supremacy/Racism, no job is more valuable than your well being. We also got another reminder that a person having melanin or being classified as black does not make that them a black sister/black brother, nor does it mean they will have your back on the job. #UnitedIndependent #TheCOWS15Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

In this episode of the Swab Podcast, join us as we unravel the chilling conspiracy surrounding the mysterious deaths of two whistleblowers from Boeing. Joshua Dean and John Barnett, former employees of the aerospace giant, dared to speak out about concerning practices within the company, only to meet untimely ends under suspicious circumstances. Dean succumbed to a sudden illness, while Barnett was tragically found dead in his car, deemed a suicide. But are these deaths mere coincidences, or part of a larger cover-up? Join us as we delve into the alleged evidence circulating on social media and share our insights into this disturbing tale that's flown under the radar. Tune in as we shine a light on the dark corners of corporate secrecy and deception.
The C.O.W.S. Radio Program hosts the weekly summit on Neutralizing Workplace Racism 05/03/24. We discuss the potential career ramifications of participating in the ongoing campus protests regarding the Israel and Palestine conflict. Individuals classified as White might be able to join in these sometimes lawful (sometimes, not) demonstrations with no fear of long-term consequence. Non-white people do not have this luxury of freedom from reprisal. We also discuss a second Boeing "whistleblower" who died under suspicious circumstances after calling attention to unsafe work practices. Joshua Dean reportedly died this week, barely two months after John Barnett reportedly committed suicide after reporting a reckless, unsafe workplace culture at Boeing. A listener called attention to the legal significance of the term "whistleblower," which should afford an employee protections against unjust retaliation for seeking justice. #TheCOWS15Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

It's Friday, May 3rd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Open Doors ministers to Ethiopian woman who lost everything Desta Alemu knows what it's like to be hated and cast out for her faith in Jesus. After all, she has the ashes of her burned home and business to prove it. She and her family were caught up in violence in their community in Ethiopia. She said, “When we left our home, it was very difficult. We couldn't even find a way to get out; we hid in a neighbor's house three houses down. I can't explain the pain and worry I felt in the chaos. Our possessions were destroyed; we lost everything.” Thankfully, Open Doors was able to help her with both immediate needs—and long-term trauma care. Desta explained, “Because I came [to the trauma care seminar], countless things have changed in me. I've learned about humility, and how Jesus was also persecuted. … Jesus was also hated, and He was also cast out.” In John 15:18-19, Jesus said, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” Open Doors lists Ethiopia as the 32nd most dangerous country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Chinese Bible distributor sentenced to 5 years in prison In April 2021, Chinese authorities arrested 10 Christians for selling and distributing Bibles in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia — an autonomous region in northern China. Just last month, a judge sentenced one of these believers to prison. On April 15, 2024, Ban Yanhong was sentenced to five years in prison for “illegal business operations.” That's how the Communist government describes the distribution of Bibles to Christians in Inner Mongolia. Originally, the 10 Hohhot Christians purchased the Bibles legally from a church in Nanjing associated with the Three-Self Patriotic Movement. These churches are the only legal churches in China and are controlled by the Communist government. In Ban's case, prosecutors argued that even though the Bibles were initially purchased legally in Nanjing, selling and distributing them in Inner Mongolia by unregistered house church members was illegal. Supreme Court agrees with Texas' age requirement for porn Great news! The United States Supreme Court has rejected a request to block enforcement of a Texas law that requires porn sites to verify the age of its users. This will ensure that far fewer minors will have access to these ungodly images. In a one-sentence miscellaneous order released Tuesday that included no dissents, the Supreme Court declined to issue a stay in the case of Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton. This allows a ruling from a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit that upheld the age verification law to remain in effect. Last June, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1181, which requires porn sites to verify a user's age. Any company found violating the requirement faces a fine of as much as $10,000 per day. Additionally, a porn company can be fined $250,000 if a minor sees explicit content because their age was not properly verified. Second Boeing whistleblower died unexpectedly A second Boeing whistleblower has died unexpectedly as the company faces scrutiny over safety failures on its passenger jets, reports Fox News. Joshua Dean, a quality inspector for the Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems, died this week after a surprise infection left him in critical condition for days. The cause was MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant staph infection, according to what his aunt Carol Parsons told the Seattle Times, which first reported the death. The 44-year-old lost his job in 2023 and filed a retaliation complaint with federal labor officials, alleging that he was only fired for speaking out. Dean had been deposed in connection with a shareholder lawsuit and had reported dangerous faults in components of Boeing's 737 MAX plane — a model linked to a number of catastrophes in recent years. John Barnett, age 62, is the other Boeing whistleblower. He had sued Boeing, claiming that he had been retaliated against, harassed, and spied on by the company. He never showed up for his second day of depositions. Barnett was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 9 outside his Charleston, South Carolina hotel the day after he gave a deposition in connection with his own retaliation lawsuit. “Unsung Hero” is a must-see Christian movie And finally, Joel and Luke Smallbone, the Australian duo that make up the Grammy Award-winning group for King and Country, and their older sister, artist Rebecca St. James, are widely known in music circles. But their family's backstory — and unlikely rise to fame — hasn't been told in-depth and in all its glorious messiness, until now. The Christian movie, “Unsung Hero,” explores the remarkable journey of the Smallbone family as they relocate from Australia to America in search of new beginnings, reports The Christian Post. After the collapse of his music business, David Smallbone, portrayed by a bespectacled Joel Smallbone, finds himself in a challenging position. Together with his pregnant wife, Helen, the “unsung hero” portrayed by Daisy Betts and their six children, they embark on a transcontinental journey, armed with little more than their luggage and a steadfast belief in their musical dreams. The company behind it also released “Jesus Revolution,” “I Can Only Imagine” and “Ordinary Angels.” A wholesome, faith-based film, “Unsung Hero” focuses largely on the power of prayer. In Philippians 4:6, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” “Unsung Hero” also underscores the necessity of a vibrant church community, and the importance of family sticking together against all odds. James Smallbone, David's father, reminds his son, “Your family isn't in the way, they are the way.” I saw it with my bride, Amy, and our three children Tuesday night. It is terrific and very moving. I urge you to get your tickets ASAP since it will only be in the theaters through Wednesday, May 8th. Another tragic development has surfaced in the Boeing whistleblower saga, as a second individual, Joshua Dean, has passed away following allegations of Spirit Aerosystems' negligence towards critical quality control issues previously brought to light by Dean. His demise, coming mere months after the death of another Boeing whistleblower, John Barnett, reportedly due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, adds further gravity to the unfolding situation. Delving into the intricate details and potential ramifications of this case sheds light on both its factual basis and the swirling conspiracies surrounding it. All of this and more on this episode of Second Boeing Whistleblower Dead | Joshua Dean
Blog post link Psychological Safety is not some nice-to-have touchy-feely concept. Psychological Safety means that you feel safe speaking up in the workplace. That could mean: Asking questions Pointing out problems Admitting mistakes Disagreeing with your manager Sharing ideas for improvement It's been pretty well proven that organizations with a higher level of Psychological Safety perform better. A lack of Psychological Safety in a factory can turn deadly. A lack of it has proven deadly in healthcare settings too, of course. If workers and engineers are punished for speaking up about quality problems in aerospace factories, that puts customers (and passengers) at great risk. When people are pressured into being silent, that's a management problem and a culture problem. I'm not blaming the individuals who keep quiet to save their jobs. I do admire those who take great professional and personal risk to speak up anyway. This WSJ article (which should be a free-reading link) talks at length about workers being punished at Spirit Aerosystems (a key Boeing supplier, formerly part of Boeing) for speaking up about quality concerns and problems. There's so much to potentially dig into regarding decisions made by past Boeing executives about spinning off factories or outsourcing work. But I'll keep this post focused on the psychological safety elements. I saw the punchline of this one story coming a mile away. It's not a funny situation, but I did literally laugh out loud: “At one point, Dean said, [Spirit] threw a pizza party for employees to celebrate a drop in the number of defects reported. Chatter at the party turned to how everyone knew that the defect numbers were down only because people were reporting fewer problems.” It's so predictable. It's happened before, and it will happen again. Dr. Deming wrote about this dynamic 40 years ago, with a story of a factory that offered an incentive for “zero injuries.” Guess what, people stopped reporting injuries, even though people could be seen walking around with arms in slings and such. Remember, including in healthcare, that “reported incidents” are not the same as “incidents,” especially when Psychological Safety is sorely lacking. In a true Lean Manufacturing environment, people are REWARDED for raising concerns and pointing out problems. We need more of that good Lean culture. Lives are at stake. More from the WSJ article about people being punished for putting quality first: The result, some current and former employees say: a factory where workers rush to meet unrealistic quotas and where pointing out problems is discouraged if not punished. Increasingly, they say, planes have been leaving Wichita with so-called escapements, or undetected defects. “It is known at Spirit that if you make too much noise and cause too much trouble, you will be moved,” said Joshua Dean, a former Spirit quality auditor who says he was fired after flagging misdrilled holes in fuselages. “It doesn't mean you completely disregard stuff, but they don't want you to find everything and write it up.” And also: On the Spirit factory floor, some machinists building planes say their concerns about quality rarely get conveyed to more senior managers, and that quality inspectors fear retaliation if they point out too many problems. Union representatives complained to leaders last fall that the company removed inspectors from line jobs and replaced them with contract workers after they flagged multiple defects. “This is leaving them with great quality and safety concerns,” one of the representatives wrote in an email to union officials. “Also feeling retaliated against for doing their jobs.” That doesn't give me more confidence about flying on Boeing airplanes. I hope the culture at Airbus isn't as dysfunctional. ‘This Has Been Going on for Years.' "It's nice having people inspire you on different levels, on stage, off stage; see how they support the burlesque community and each other, and we become each others' family. And especially when you don't have a family or a good support system, theatre becomes your support system; the stage becomes sometimes your therapy, costuming becomes your therapy." Dancer, instructor, clown, and person of so many trades Harley Foxx (Albany, NY) sits with Viktor Devonne to talk about all kinds of things, from the lindyhop, gatekeeping, neurodivergence, accessibility, the scary possibility of fame, and joyfully homaging Josephine Baker. "If you can find your way outside of the cog of creating theatre, or whatever it is that is the one thing that's all yours; that freedom... ooh, that's a powerful thing and I'm grateful for it." -- Ben Franklin "I don't pass as straight, I never did... I've lost out on work... I went into what made sense to me. I always express my queer identity [on stage]; I think all my acts have very much a queer sensibility, either by the music choice or te costuming or what I'm showing on stage... the movement... I don't think i set out to do it... [It just] naturally evolved with the way I want to share my art with the audience." -- Joshua Dean Happy Pride! Ben and Josh also happen to be in fantastical love with teach other, having started in musical theatre together and now can be seen spinning around from the ceiling in jockstraps; or cracking whips and hula-hooping as Jack Skellington. Not all childhoods are created equal. Joshua Dean grew up helping his mother and stepfather sell encyclopedias to make ends meet. Addiction plagued the family, often leaving young Joshua to serve as the parent to his younger brother and mother. Through all of this, Joshua pulled through with the help of government cheese, athletic scholarships, and a village of families. Now, at the age of forty-one, he holds a bachelors degree in early childhood education, a masters degree in theology, a loving wife, three healthy children, a successful career, and endless love and respect for all of the families that raised him — including his loving, strong, and beautiful mother. Truly an inspiration for all.
On this Feel Good Friday edition of WUL, I talk with Joshua Dean. Joshua has a full time job in the healthcare industry and started building his business on the side back in November 2020. Today he talks about how he got started with Legendary, the importance of putting relationships over money, avoiding comparison-itis, and more.

Often in life, we become disillusioned so easily that at the slightest of discomfort we back off. But when do good things start happening? It's when we come out of our comfort zone that greater possibilities start opening up. But it's not about braving it, but more of trusting yourself, of letting go, of taking inspired action to do it. Joshua Dean Church is a writer, speaker, photographer, operator, and coach dedicated to helping ambitious people play at a higher level. He has shared his stories and experiences with thousands – from the TEDx stage to Fortune 500 companies to international schools and universities around the world. He currently serves as the Director of Operations for a business coaching company, High Impact Coaching, and he is the host of the Find The Others Podcast with new episodes dropping weekly. In this episode, Joshua shares how entrepreneurship is a tool for something good and sustainable. That capitalism is a way to make a change in others, and not just anything bad that many think about. Discover how he's learned to break free from the identity that most of us are being boxed in and how he learned to 'see and create'. There is a lot to glean from what he says when talking about what one can learn from anyone and anything in our everyday interaction. For a lot of us, we may not know it, but we're scared of the power we have in us to transform. The commitment and willingness to take action is paramount, and that's where it's often difficult. But, truly, investing in yourself opens opportunities for change for the better. When we push and challenge ourselves that's when we create more of ourselves and impact a powerful change in others and the world. “Business is a powerful, and sustainable tool that we can use for good.” - Joshua Dean Church What you will learn from this episode: 02:03 - Using business and entrepreneurship and capitalism as a way of good 07:24 - Entrepreneurship as a powerful tool to make a sustainable change 09:46 - Your income being a direct ID marker of the impact that you're having 13:35 - Going out of your comfort zone to a completely new environment, to see and to create 15:00 - What empowers him to do things differently? 19:25 - People are afraid of just how powerful they really are 23:20 - Strength in surrender 25:23 - Take that first step of inspired action 27:57 - Don't write something off - just be open-minded 30:46 - How every experience being a reflection looking back at you 34:57 - The big show is happening now 38:11 - Why the need for disruption and paradigm shift in the fitness industry 40:56 - What's the education system missing a mark on Connect With Joshua Dean Church: joshuadeanchurch.com Instagram LinkedIn Connect With Gavin McHale: Gavinmchale.clickfunnels.com LinkedIn Instagram
