hyperMILL lights up productivity gains for medical manufacturer

Opening its doors with just four toolmakers 50 years ago, Smithstown Light Engineering Ltd is now a business with three manufacturing sites and over 165 employees. Working with the world's leading medical device and orthopaedic companies, Smithstown extensively uses OPEN MIND Technologies‘ hyperMILL CAD/CAM suite to streamline its throughput and maximise efficiency. Initially a toolmaking business supplying plastic injection moulds to the electronics industry, the Shannon-based business transitioned to medical manufacturing in 1990—and it hasn't looked back since. With two sites in Shannon spanning 80,000sq/ft and a third 15,000sq/ft facility in Poland, 75% of the company's technology is less than 5 years old. Certified to ISO: 9001, ISO:13485 and ISO:14001, Smithstown has a bank of Citizen sliding head turning centres, in-house heat treatment, Rollomatic, Jung and Jones & Shipman grinding centres, DMG MORI and Mikron machining centres, Trumpf 3D additive manufacturing and Makino EDM technology. Working with renowned clients such as Stryker, Boston Scientific, Zimmer Biomet, and Cook Medical, to name a few, the company provides a turnkey service from concept and design through prototyping, machining, and validation of medical components and orthopaedic implants. With over 14 million components manufactured annually, the Irish manufacturer adopts stringent quality measures that are a necessity for ultra-precision medical device parts used in life-saving surgery. Alluding to his role within the company and a background in Smithstown Engineering, Gerard Henn from Smithstown Light Engineering says: “I've been here now nearly three years in the role of CEO, and I support the principal director of the business in the running of the operation. Smithtown started in 1974, so we are now 50 years in existence. Our principal area of expertise is precision machining to impeccable quality levels with customer service. We really pride ourselves in supporting the customer in all their difficulties and all their successes.” Manufacturing high precision parts to stringent standards, Gerard alludes to why the County Clare company opted for hyperMILL from OPEN MIND Technologies: “There are so many different options in the marketplace, but OPEN MIND made it much easier for us to work forward with hyperMILL. The explanation of the facets, the features, and how we could optimise our machining strategies and cutting paths – it has everything. That worked in our favour. The relationship with OPEN MIND and its hyperMILL system came together and created a partnership with us.” When Gerard joined the company, one of his aims was to upskill the staff, which was a critical necessity considering the shortage of skilled engineers. Alluding to this, Gerard adds: “OPEN MIND were very enthusiastic and got behind us. They understood what we were trying to achieve, and it's been a positive relationship all the way through. We'd recommend OPEN MIND to any companies out there who are interested in upskilling their internal workforce – the partnership has been extremely positive.“ Looking closer at the types of work the company is involved in, Gerard continues: “We operate in the medical space, and we support the orthopaedic and medical device companies in Ireland and also globally. We also do instrumentation for procedures, so it's very much a medical-focused enterprise.” Occupying a large floor area and two facilities, the company is continually evolving. Gerard adds: “So, we have over 200 employees and two sites here in Shannon. The second site is just literally 1 kilometre down the road, so you find us trekking up and down quite a bit, but you see the same technologies and approach in both buildings. We have a third facility in Rzeszów, Poland, a business that's been operating for 3 to 4 years. We also recently announced a major expansion there.“ “What we find in any process development is you're going through an iterative process. You're optimising the machining and cutting process, checking dimensions back to the machine to the virtual CAD station, and bringing all that together. So, I think the fact that OPEN MIND has supported us so much means we have a great understanding of hyperMILL. The upskilling is well in parallel and enables us to bring all the strands together to succeed. By success, I mean that we can deliver parts to specification earlier. That is because that's what everyone wants. Customers want parts in their hands, and having that collaboration of everyone allows us to achieve that.”

Claim the early bird sale (limited-time) at unlockgodmode.org * * * In Feed My Sheep, Neville Goddard explores the biblical metaphor of shepherding as a call to consciously rule and direct our thoughts. He explains that most people allow their minds to wander aimlessly, much like sheep without a shepherd, but true mastery requires feeding and disciplining the mind to manifest desires effectively.Key Teachings1. The Meaning of "Feeding the Sheep""Feed my sheep" means to shepherd our thoughts deliberately.Thoughts, like scattered sheep, must be gathered and directed toward a chosen outcome. The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 illustrates that mental faculties must be actively developed—unused abilities atrophy like an unexercised muscle.2. Israel is Within, Not an External NationNeville interprets biblical Israel not as a geographic nation, but as ideas and desires scattered within the mind."Jacob" represents our imagined desires before they take form in the physical world."Esau" symbolizes external reality—the physical, visible world. To bring "Jacob" to the Lord means to assume and persist in the reality of our desires until they manifest.3. Moving from Servant to SonThe spiritual journey follows three stages:Servant – Learning to direct thought and consciously manifest.Friend – Developing a close relationship with the deeper self (God).Son – Realizing oneself as the divine creator, one with God.We begin as servants, proving our faith by demonstrating control over our reality.Once mastery is achieved, we become friends of God, communing with Him directly. Finally, we awaken to our divine nature and recognize ourselves as sons of God.4. The Power of Assumption in ManifestationSeeing a desire clearly in the mind's eye is seeing Israel.Occupying the state of the wish fulfilled is bringing Jacob to the Lord.Success is not found in the external world but within, through assumption. To manifest, one must move from merely seeing a desire to thinking from it—feeling as if it is already real.5. The Role of Faith and Testing the LawNeville urges us to test these principles by consciously manifesting for ourselves and others. We can prove we are "servants" by bringing about small, tangible changes in our lives.Success in these small tests strengthens our faith and moves us closer to divine realization. To not test these principles is to bury our talents, like the servant in the parable who hid his gift in fear.Practical ApplicationChoose a Desire – Clearly define what you or someone else wants.See It as Already Real – In your mind's eye, vividly imagine it as a present fact.Think from the State – Assume and persist in the feeling of the wish fulfilled.Disregard Physical Reality – Ignore contrary evidence in the external world.Remain Faithful Until It Hardens Into Fact – Continue assuming until it manifests. ***Download the free Neville Goddard PDF Guide at manifestwithneville.com - Discover the transformative power of Neville Goddard's wisdom with this FREE 60-page guide on his 12 timeless principles of manifestation and reality creation.★ Follow the podcast for daily lectures from the mystic Neville Goddard ★FREE RESOURCES:• Join the FREE Neville Goddard newsletter• Join the FREE Telegram Channel• Feeling is the Secret • Full Audiobook* * *The James Xander Trip Podcast:• Listen on Spotify• Listen on Apple Podcasts• Listen on YouTubeDIVE DEEPER:• The Unlock God Mode Course• The Infinite Wealth Guided Meditation* * *ABOUT NEVILLE GODDARD:Neville Goddard (1905-1972), was an English writer, speaker and mystic. He grew up in Barbados and moved to the United States of America as a young adult. Neville Goddard was perhaps the last century's most intellectually substantive and charismatic purveyor of the philosophy generally called New Thought. He wrote more than ten books under the solitary pen name Neville, and was a popular speaker on metaphysical themes from the late 1930s until his death in 1972.Possessed of a self-educated and uncommonly sharp intellect, Neville espoused a spiritual vision that was bold and total: Everything you see and experience, including other people, is the result of your own thoughts and emotional states. Each of us dreams into existence an infinitude of realities and outcomes. When you realize this, Neville taught, you will discover yourself to be a slumbering branch of the Creator clothed in human form, and at the helm of limitless possibilities.Neville's thought system influenced a wide range of spiritual thinkers and writers, from bestselling author Dr. Joseph Murphy to Rhonda Byrne and Wayne Dyer.He has inspired and continues to inspire millions of readers around the world.* * *SOCIALS:• Neville Goddard Newsletter• Neville Goddard Telegram• Neville Goddard Instagram• Neville Goddard Threads• Neville Goddard Twitter• Neville Goddard YouTube* * *ABOUT THE COURSEUnlock God Mode is a transformative 30-day course designed to accelerate your journey towards greater wealth, love, and success through a deeper understanding and manipulation of your reality.  Comprising of 30 audio lessons, thi...

In her summer 2024 exhibition Trial By Fire at Core Art Space, Lakewood, Colorado, Maria Sheets exhibited a series of colorful, sculpturally dense, illuminated glass panels of portraits and landscapes created in a unique process that combines the mediums of traditional stained glass grisaille/enameling with fused glass “painting” known as Vitreonics. The technique was documented in Justin Monroe's award-winning documentary Holy Frit. The movie traces artist/designer Tim Carey's journey through making the world's largest stained and fused glass window with the help of Italian glass maestro Narcissus Quagliata. Says Sheets: “Our family experienced a major loss in late 2023 that inspired a radical shift in what I was producing. In an attempt to address this swing of emotional intensity, I found I desperately needed to break some sh#t. Inspired by the project created in the new film Holy Frit, I began to learn Vitreonics. The process, particularly the intense smashing, layering, and heating of glass, gave me the change I needed. Vitreonics brought balance to my creative world and reminded me that though I can and do use my skills to make art that is highly technical, I can also relax into flexibility and levity.” With a conservation and glass studio located in Evergreen, Colorado, Sheets is a senior conservator of Foothills Art Conservation and a master glass designer, painter and fabricator. She was Chief Conservator of a fire recovery project with the Museum of Biblical Art, Dallas from 2005-2018. A partial list of additional clients includes the Ross Perot Collection, George Bush Family, Gerald Ford, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Samurai Collection. She served as President of the Conservators Private Practice Group of the American Institute for Conservation and holds a Professional Associates status.  Signed commissioned works in architectural glass include large-scale projects presently housed in museums, universities, houses of worship, businesses and private residences internationally. In 2021, Sheets designed and painted the Legacy Window for Tulsa's Vernon AME in Greenwood, illustrating 120 years of the church's history and survival from the Tulsa Race Massacre. Her own work was included in recent juried exhibitions such as American Glass Guild NOW 2016 (juror, contemporary artist Judith Schaechter), Texas National 2018 (juror Jed Perl, international art critic), and Materials Hard and Soft International Craft Exhibition 2019 (2nd place of 1100 entries). She is a resident artist for Valkarie Gallery in Lakewood, Colorado, where her work will be exhibited in a solo exhibition from November 13 through December 8, 2024.  In 2022, Martin Faith, Scottish Stained Glass, Centennial, Colorado, approached Sheets with a project that involved reproducing an artist's pieces made in the 1970s onto glass. Sheets explains: “He showed them to me, and I gasped, recognizing the work as Judy Chicago's. I had read her early biographies while I was in college in the ‘90s. My feminist art teacher taught us about her work and the famous piece The Dinner Party, which congress was crucifying along with a number of artists trying to get funding through the National Endowment for the Arts.  I even wrote her fan mail.” Sheets and Chicago met and spent several years working collaboratively in Chicago's Belen, New Mexico studio. There they created complex airbrushed/masked pieces onto glass. These took five months of research and development as the technique/design would be some of the most unforgiving yet enlightening of Sheet's life. Last year Chicago had a blockbuster show of the work at New Museum in New York accompanied by a four-page spread in the New York Times as well as an exhibition at Serpentine in London. Occupying a rare niche in the art world, Sheets was inspired by her great-uncle, a Russian Orthodox priest and iconographer to apply old-world art materials on stained glass to create both traditional religious imagery or modern portraits and scenes rife with politics. Her work Motherboard Madonna was recently exhibited in AI Love You at Niza Knoll Gallery, Denver, Colorado.  Says Sheets: “The gallery got blackballed, but the whole point of show was to discuss the ethical concerns and use of AI as a tool. One could say creativity was used in the creation of this technology and that “paint” is not the only medium. Adapt or die…”

Led by Apostle Sydney Quaye, Global Lead Pastor of Shekinah Avenue Church In this powerful message titled "Occupying the Oil", Apostle Sydney Quaye emphasizes the significance of the anointing that every believer carries. When a person is born again, they enter into Christ, which means they enter into the anointing. This anointing is not only a key element of the Christian faith but a divine power that resides within every believer, enabling them to achieve great things. Apostle Quaye encourages listeners to recognize and activate this anointing in their lives. He draws on the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4, highlighting that even though she had a small pot of oil, it was enough to transform her situation when utilized. Similarly, believers today have the Holy Spirit within them, and it's up to them to tap into this anointing to fill every aspect of their lives—whether it be their finances, relationships, careers, or ministry. Apostle stresses the importance of using the anointing to speak life into every area that needs growth, healing, or breakthrough. By declaring and trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit, Christians can experience transformation, elevation, and fulfillment of their divine purpose. As you listen, be reminded that you are anointed, equipped with the oil of God, and destined for greatness. Take time to fill every "vessel" in your life with God's blessings, knowing that through His power, you are able to bring forth change, provision, and abundance. Key Message: Activate the anointing within you, and fill every part of your life with God's power. The oil is already within—use it to transform your world.

#184 Proactive Hazard Reporting – Consultation and Participation in ISO 45001

The ISO Show

In the workplace, everyone is responsible for safety.  It's not just for managers or senior management to worry about where legislation is concerned, everyone from the top to the bottom needs to be actively ensuring the safety of others. ISO 45001 highlights the importance of this in its most recent iteration, which includes a specific requirement for the consultation and participation of workers. But, how does this work in practice? Today Ian Battersby explains what consultation and participation of workers in ISO 45001 is, and how you can incorporate elements of reactive and proactive hazard reporting to meet that requirement. You'll learn ·      What is consultation and participation of workers in ISO 45001? ·      What is the identification of hazards? ·      What's the difference between reactive and proactive hazard reporting? ·      Common approaches to reactive and proactive hazard reporting ·      Proactive hazard reporting in action   Resources ·      Isologyhub     In this episode, we talk about: [00:30] Join the isologyhub – To get access to a suite of ISO related tools, training and templates. Simply head on over to isologyhub.com to either sign-up or book a demo. [02:05] Episode summary: Ian Battersby will be explaining reactive and proactive hazard reporting, and how this relates to the consultation and participation of workers (clause 5.4) requirement in ISO 45001. [02:30] What is ‘Consultation and Participation of workers? – ISO 45001's clause 5.4 states: “The organization must have a process for consultation and participation of workers at all levels and functions, and their representatives in the development, planning, implementation, performance evaluation and actions for improvement of the OH&S management system.” ISO 45001 expects occupational health and safety aspects to be fully embodied within the organisation structure. All workers should be aware of their responsibilities, and work together to meet the organisation's health and safety goals. Everyone is responsible for safety. Consultation implies two-way communication, so workers can provide feedback to be considered by the organisation before taking a decision.  This is important; the organisation has to consider workers' feedback before making decisions Participation implies the contribution of workers, including non-managerial workers, to decision-making related to OH&S performance and to proposed changes. [05:50] Hazard Identification – A specific issue which must be considered is the identification of hazards: ·      Identifying hazards and assessing risks and opportunities (Clauses 6.1.1 and 6.1.2); ·      Determining actions to eliminate hazards and reduce OH&S risks There are numerous sources for consideration when it comes to hazards ·      How work is organised ·      Routine/non-routine activities ·      Past incidents ·      Emergency situations ·      People ·      Processes ·      Workplace design ·      Equipment ·      Change  [07:35] What's the difference between proactive and reactive hazard reporting? – Proactive is about spotting hazards in advance and putting in place measures to minimise the chances of them materialising and causing harm (eg, through an accident) Reactive is in response to an event which has already occurred, such as an accident; a hazard existed without being spotted already and dealt with.   [08:20] A common approach to proactive hazard reporting  – Risk Assessment.  Consider hazard sources (i.e. people, processes, equipment, workplace etc) and consider what may happen; what could go wrong.  Then consider what controls could be put in place to try and prevent that happening. Risk assessment can help you to demonstrate worker consultation and participation by including those affected: ·      Involved in or affected by an activity ·      Those delivering a process ·      Using equipment ·      Occupying a workplace Those people have valuable knowledge and understanding, sometimes moreso than someone in a supervisory / managerial role. And an absolute must: recording that all employees have read, understand and are committed to the controls included in Risk Assessments; that process may also give rise to workers' further involvement – through querying, suggesting change etc This also helps the culture of hazard spotting and promotes engagement among the workforce, both of which are vital in driving a proactive approach [11:10] A common approach to reactive hazard reporting: Accident reporting systems is the obvious choice. However, there are ways you can make this more proactive. There are various levels to accident reporting. Traditional systems wait until an accident occurs before recording and acting upon it. Some organisations also record near misses: where an event has occurred, but no harm has been caused. This approach in itself can be very valuable; and it provides an opportunity to act before any harm has occurred. However, we can go a step further and allow the workforce to observe what's happening; their surroundings and listen to what they feel may present a hazard to them and their colleagues (remember, everyone is responsible for safety). [13:00] Join the isologyhub and get access to limitless ISO resources – From as little as £99 a month, you can have unlimited access to hundreds of online training courses and achieve certification for completion of courses along the way, which will take you from learner to practitioner to leader in no time. Simply head on over to the isologyhub to sign-up or book a demo. [15:30] Proactive hazard reporting in action: Ian recounts his experience in a previous company where their proactive hazard reporting led to meaningful change. This took place in a large manufacturing plant, but there was also significant office-based activity as well. Because of the nature of the work, many people would not have access to online systems so there was both online and paper systems; this is important; if everybody is responsible, everybody needs access and engagement is vital. In addition to the traditional accident/near miss system, there was a safety observation card (all data ended up in the same database). It was simple to fill out, would have only taken about 5 minutes at most. In an organisation of 500ish, we received 2200 observation cards per year by the time I left. When combined with accidents/incidents, there's a predictable cycle: more reports, poor quality, more accidents, better quality, improved actions, fewer accidents. [17:30] Creating an observation card: It should be easy to understand and record what's necessary, recommended content includes: ·      Date / Time ·      Who was involved – employee / contractor / visitor ect ·      Location of hazard / incident  ·      Description of hazard / incident (ideally in 10 words or less) You could get more granular and include: ·      Identification of an unsafe condition or unsafe act ·      Type of hazard or incident: slip, trip or fall / exit obstructed / machinery being used unsafely / unsafe structure / not using PPE You could also include an option for actions taken if you decide to inform a manager of the issue, if you've corrected someone on the use of equipment or PPE ect. [21:15] The Importance of peer inspections:  Often they would have supervisors from one area, checking a different one. This fresh pair of eyes may offer new insight into something that you usually miss! Note that you should also encourage any site visitors to do the same. The fact that you'd ask them to report any incident also displays that you take safety seriously, and are open to feedback to improve.   [22:40] Hazard scoring:  In order to judge that quality, they went a step further and graded all observations from 1-3:   1.    Saw something but didn't act 2.    Saw it, acted to put it safe there and then 3.    Saw it, acted to prevent it happening again   This allowed them to judge how effective hazard spotting is in removing cause and filters out points-scoring.   [22:45] The results speak for themselves: Increasing number of observations Increasing number of participants Increasing quality of observations Reducing number and severity of accidents.   Over five years, they increased the number of observations per employee ten-fold.   As a result, they reduced lost time accidents over 75% This was a superb example of a personal safety campaign and a great demonstration of consultation and participation,   It's not difficult to do, but it needs leadership commitment, constant and clear comms, user-friendly systems and effective analysis / reporting.   If you'd like to book a demo for the isologyhub, simply contact us and we'd be happy to give you a tour. The arrogance of rogue public officials see We The People as tax cattle to be fleeced. Unconstitutional bureaucracies have plans for imposing martial governance in territory they already occupy. What can We The People do in such a scenario? What do the foundational charter documents say about constitutional order under a supreme law that is, contrary to democracy, specifically limited to things of a public nature? Listen as Kontorovich speaks with EconTalk's Russ Roberts about the legal issues surrounding occupation as well as the moral issues of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. Nicole O'Byrne talks to Peter Ludlow about his book, Disciples of Antigonish: Catholics in Nova Scotia, 1880–1960. For generations eastern Nova Scotia was one of the most celebrated Roman Catholic constituencies in Canada. Occupying a corner of a small province in a politically marginalized region of the country, the Diocese of Antigonish nevertheless had tremendous influence over the development of Canadian Catholicism. It produced the first Roman Catholic prime minister of Canada, supplied the nation with clergy and women- religious, and organized one of North America's most successful social movements. Disciples of Antigonish recounts the history of this unique multi-ethnic community as it shifted from the firm ultramontanism of the nineteenth century to a more socially conscious Catholicism after the First World War. Peter Ludlow chronicles the faithful as they built a strong Catholic sub-state, dealing with economic uncertainty, generational outmigration, and labour unrest. As the home of the Antigonish Movement - a network of adult study clubs, cooperatives, and credit unions - the diocese became famous throughout the Catholic world. The influence of “mighty big and strong Antigonish,” as one national figure described the community, reached its zenith in the 1950s. Disciples of Antigonish traces the monumental changes that occurred within the region and the wider church over nearly a century and demonstrates that the Catholic faith in Canada went well beyond Sunday Mass. Peter Ludlow is an adjunct professor of Catholic Studies at St Francis Xavier University, and the President-General of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association. It is always expanding. Many times we feel secure in our commitment to occupy. We look around and pat ourselves on the back and feel a sense of pride in how we are doing. And sometimes we lose hold of what God has given us. In those times, it's easy to look at the lost territory and complain or feel ashamed. But, to truly occupy is to decide that enough is enough and retake the territory that was lost. It's time to expand our tents and regain control of the land that God has called us to occupy. If you're anything like me you may have had a negative definition of humility. A definition that may mean punishment, or to make yourself less than. Maybe it was even used against you in response to an action. What if biblical humility doesn't start with doing or being less, but instead starts with fully recognizing and living in your God-given space. What if biblical humility begins with stepping into the life God has for you? My friend Heather MacFadyen is back on The Happy Hour today. Heather is the host of the popular parenting podcast Don't Mom Alone, with more than 20 million downloads from around the globe, as well as the author of the book Don't Mom Alone. She finds great joy in connecting other women to mentors and experts through her podcast and in speaking at live events with women across the country. She and her husband and their four sons live in Dallas, Texas. Her newest book, Right Where You Belong, was released last April. On today's show Heather challenges us to identify our God-given space and to fully occupy that space. She encourages us to walk in humility by trusting God with the journey and finding comfort and peace in the fact that we don't know, but we follow and serve an all knowing God! Right Where You Belong is a book for every mother in every parenting stage! Go grab your copy today and share this episode with a mom that could use the encouragement!SHOW LINKS:Heather's last HH episodeGod Made You to Be YouDon't Mom AloneDon't Mom Alone Podcast Crazy Rich AsiansAmerican MahjongRight Where You Belong Heather MacFadyenIn the Wild Light Tired of Trying to Measure UpCONNECT WITH JAMIE

Following the Napoleonic Wars, a tidal wave of independence movements hit the Western Hemisphere. The United States was afraid that expansionist powers—namely Britain, France, Germany, and Japan—might extend their empires into these regions, threatening the growth of fledgling republics in the Americas. This kicked off a century of American launching well-intentioned but bloody imperialism in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, with the annexation of Hawaii, the Spanish-American War, and military occupations of Cuba, Haiti, Panama, and other countries as a firewall against European expansion.Only after making these preemptive incursions to restore order and support democracy in its “mortal combat” against imperialism, as Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan put it, did the U.S. get bogged down in interventionist quagmires.Today's guest is Sean Mirski, author of “We May Dominate the World: Anxiety, and the Rise of the American Colossus.” Mirski examines a lost chapter of American foreign policy, the century following the Civil War in which the United States carved out a sphere of influence and became the only great power in modern history to achieve regional hegemony.By understanding what drove the United States' behavior, it offers a window into the trajectory that other regional powers—including China, Russia, and Iran—may take in the coming decades. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3101278/advertisement
