'Low code' is an approach to programming that avoids repetitive and boilerplate coding work through pre-coded templates. An increasing number of Indian tech startups are using low code. In this episode of ALTRnative Perspectives, we speak to experts Akshay Rangasai of Appsmith and Siddhant Puri of Retool to understand three main issues: One, the blurry line between low code and the general abstraction of technology. Two, the employment implications of low code - does it free up the time of engineers? Does it threaten some jobs? And three, what this means for the adage "everybody should learn to code" - with templatisation, does everyone really need to learn to code? How can innovation in digital technology arise in this scenario? ALTRnative Perspectives is a podcast by the Centre for Applied Law and Technology Research, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. This episode has been developed by Jai Vipra.

This week I respond to a recent micro poll, which I conducted on social media that asked architects what they thought the biggest challenge facing the industry is. The results came in showing that the 'Low fees' were considered the biggest challenge followed by climate change, with many commenting that our ability to influence climate change is related to our ability to produce revenue. Do you agree? I shared the results from the initial poll all over social media and asked the question do you agree? Do architects actually have low fees? and if so why? What are the reasons behind low fees across the profession? What do you think the practices who command high fees doing? (I give some case studies of some practices I spoken to who are crushing it). The posts and polls were viewed by over 6000 people and many of you responded and gave your insights. This podcast is a curation of some of those comments and ideas from architects, marketers, property experts, business owners, media institutions, students and industry thought leaders with some of my own commentary and thoughts on the subject. At the Business of Architecture UK our mission is to help architects command the fees they desire and our ongoing industry research helps us refine and develop our tools, strategies and consulting. So I want to thank everybody for their ongoing contribution and encourage everyone to view this as conversation that is important for us all to participate in, so please your thoughts and ideas in the comments or email me at rion@businessofarchitecture.co.uk In this episode you will discover: - An array of industry opinions to the root causes of low fees - Examples of what leading practices are doing to command well deserved fees and how they are winning work - Latent opportunities that lie in our businesses This week's resources: Discovery call with Rion https://www.businessofarchitecture.co.uk/discoverycall

Well, where do we even start with our next guest's band? Bring Me The Horizon have been tearing up stages across the globe for the better part of the past 15 years and in that time, their sound may have changed from the early deathcore roots, through to their metalcore and most recent stadium rock albums, but now, yet again, we are seeing a significant change for the band which seems them introducing EDM influenced sounds and pop rock vibes with their latest album amo. But what triggered the change? Why did they stray so far from their original sound and (as rumours suggest) was it all a challenge to see if they could crack the mainstream market? All those burning questions you've ALWAYS wanted to know about BMTH will finally be answered as drummer Mat Nicholls co-hosts our Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall podcast this week and by everything we mean everything from their Grammy Nomination, Mat's opinions on genres being "pointless", frontman Oli Sykes' music video ideas and even if they'll be bringing their heavy song medley to Australia in April. There's even a discussion about the band's belter of a new song 'heavy metal' which is a piss-take, "fuck you" anthem for all the old fans who criticised their progression away from the heavier side of music. You do not want to miss this one. Podcast host Browny also takes a look at Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton's new solo song with the late Chester Bennington and asks for your opinion about whether or not Wage War ripped off Architects' with their new song 'Low'. There's also plenty of new tunes from Seas of Conflict, Kill The Lights, The Last Martyr and Fever 333, throwbacks from A Day To Remember, Enter Shikari, While She Sleeps and heaps more… #WoSUATW #BringMeThrHorizon #BMTH #MatNicholls #amo #MANTRA #MarkMorton #ChesterBennington #SeasOfConflict #KillTheLights #WageWar #Metalcore #Architects #EnterShikari #WhileSheSleeps #Beartooth #ADayToRemember #ADTR #TheLastMartyr #IceNineKills #Fever333 #DavceGavinDance #MusicPodcast #Podcast #WallOfSoundAU

Well the year maybe coming to a close but the high quality papers keep on coming out! We've got 3 great articles to cover in this episode which have some key points to reflect on in our practice. First up we take a look at the application of Canadian c-spine rules by ED triage nurses and the potential impact this approach could hold. Next up we have a look at the addition of magnesium to current ED rate control of uncompromised patients presenting with rapid AF. Lastly we look at a paper on the conservative management of traumatic pneumothoraces, including those undergoing positive pressure ventilation, which reviews the complication rate of this approach. As always make sure you take a look at the papers yourselves and form your own opinions, we would love to hear you comments and feedback. Enjoy!

'Low pay, no pay' Britain. Laurie Taylor talks to the sociologist, Tracy Shildrick, about her prize winning study of individuals and families who are living in or near poverty. The research was conducted in Teesside, North East England, and focuses on the men and women who've fallen out of old working class communities and must now cope with drastically reduced opportunities for standard employment. Also, the US sociologist, Kimberly Kay Hoang, discusses her study into Vietnamese sex workers who've become American wives who, contrary to their hopeful expectations, end up as primary breadwinners in their new country. Understanding and control of the plasma edge behaviour are essential for the success of ITER and future fusion plants. This requires the availability of suitable methods for assessing the edge parameters and reliable techniques to handle edge phenomena, e.g. to mitigate 'Edge Localized Modes' (ELMs) --- a potentially harmful plasma edge instability. This thesis introduces a new method for the estimation of accurate edge electron temperature profiles by forward modelling of the electron cyclotron radiation transport and demonstrates its successful application to investigate the impact of Magnetic Perturbation (MP) fields used for ELM mitigation on the edge kinetic data. While for ASDEX Upgrade bulk plasmas, straightforward analysis of the measured electron cyclotron intensity spectrum based on the optically thick plasma approximation is usually justified, reasonable analysis of the steep and optically thin edge region relies on full treatment of the radiation transport considering broadened emission and absorption profiles. This is realized in the framework of integrated data analysis which applies Bayesian probability theory for joint analysis of the electron density and temperature with data of different independent and complementary diagnostics. The method reveals that in regimes with improved confinement ('High-confinement modes' (H-modes)) the edge gradient of the electron temperature can be several times higher than that of the radiation temperature. Furthermore, the model is able to reproduce the 'shine-through' peak --- the observation of increased radiation temperatures at frequencies with cold resonance outside the confined plasma region. This phenomenon is caused by strongly down-shifted radiation of Maxwellian tail electrons located in the H-mode edge region and, therefore, contains valuable information about the electron temperature edge gradient. The accurate knowledge about the edge profiles and gradients of the electron temperature and --- including the density information --- the electron pressure allows a detailed study of plasma edge phenomena like ELMs or the transition from 'Low-confinement mode' (L-mode) to H-mode. It is shown how the application of non-axisymmetric MP fields acts on the edge profiles of electron temperature, density and pressure in H-modes with type-I and mitigated ELMs and during the L-H transition. Compared to type-I ELMs, mitigated ELMs tend to occur at higher edge densities, lower edge temperatures and reduced edge pressure gradients. This parameter regime can be achieved by strong gas fuelling. MP fields might support ELM mitigation by shifting the threshold between type-I and small ELMs towards slightly higher edge temperatures. The application of MPs in L-modes results in a degradation of the pressure gradient due to increased heat transport. At the L-H transition, the pressure gradient and the radial electric field shearing seem to exhibit the same value with and without MPs, while its required heating power is increased in the presence of MPs.

Sales of low-priced(1) homes here continue to feed(2) a housing market that has buyers eager(3), sellers satisfied and some real estate agents scrambling(4) to keep up the pace."Put an entry-level home on the market and - wham! It's gone in no time," said a broker in Wenatchee. "They go almost as fast as we can list them. Sure, we'd like to see prices rising and more sales of higher-end(5) homes, but these low-end sales can be a good thing— sell a lot of entry-level homes now and, down the road, you'll likely have a lot of second-home buyers." Looser credit and some of the lowest interest rates in recent history(6), this week at 3.875 percent, have juiced(7) sales and spurred activity across the market, regardless(8) of price. "We're seeing more interest, more showings in the $400,000 range than we've seen in years.“ It's welcome activity. "Buyers are also wiser in their preparations to buy a home," said Paine, another  broker. "They come to the table with cleaner credit, higher incomes and better documentation —They've got their ducks in a row and are ready to purchase." 1. 'Low-priced homes' is the opposite of 'high-priced homes'. 'Low' and 'High' can be added to other nouns as well. a. Low-priced land is selling quickly in our area. b. High-priced furniture is finally on sale. 2. 'To feed a housing market'. When it comes to markets, we say that they are 'fed' by sales or demand. 'To feed' is used figuratively in many situations. a. What you say will only feed the fire of his anger. b. Play feeds the imagination of children and adults. 3. 'Eager' is the same as 'keen' or 'very willing to'. a. They're eager to find jobs and a home in their new town. b. I'm eager to meet my new boss. 4. 'To scramble' means several things. We scramble eggs (beat them and add milk). It can also mean to hurry, or to run with both hands and feet on the ground, usually up hill, in an uncontrolled fashion. a. The cat scrambled up the tree to get away from the dog. b. I was late! I scrambled to get all of my things, and then I ran to catch the bus. 5. 'Higher-end' is similar to 'high-cost'. It is usually to describe property. a. The higher-end houses are around the golf course. b. The company party is always at a higher-end restaurant (high-end). 6. 'In recent history' the word 'recent' can be put in front of other nouns, such as 'years', 'months', 'governments' etc. a.  In recent weeks, demonstrations have increased. b. In recent years, there has been less rainfall. 7. 'Interest rates have juiced sales' the word 'juiced' here is American terminology. It is the same as saying 'encouraged' or 'fed'.  Join me on my FACEBOOK page at Anna Fromacupofenglish. Comments or questions? Send them  to .  Do you need English lessons via Skype? This one is about Protestant aesthetics as expressed in architecture and design. It is 'a tale told by an idiot', however, for no one ever believes you. Only Henny Penny says the Episcopal Church was once Protestant and 'Low' -- right up to the Disco Era. Memory being what it is, this is the tale of a forgotten 200 years. The Song Remains the Same in about 200 precious survivals in England, as well as 50 or so on the East Coast of the U.S.A. There, the glass is clear; the design, simple; and the message, unmediated. There, less is more.
