On Friday February 12th, 1993 little two-year-old James Bulger and his mother Denise went to the New Strand Shopping Center in Bootle, England to do some shopping. They were there for a short time before Denise decided to go into the butcher shop to purchase some meat. She held James' hand the entire time until it was time to purchase her chops, as Denise let go of his hand James wondered off and seemingly vanished within seconds. Denise would not have answers about what happened to her son until days later.
Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
Liverpool has long been a musical powerhouse. From Echo and the Bunnymen and Frankie Goes to Hollywood to its most famous sons, The Beatles, the City of Pop has shaped global culture. But Liverpool is far more than music and mop-tops.Home to two iconic football teams, Liverpool F.C. and Everton F.C., the city is also a gem for beer and food tourism. The Grapes pub offers cosy vibes and well-kept cask ales. Dead Crafty on Dale Street showcases rare international beers, while Azvex Brewery & Taproom is a must-visit. For amazing vegetarian Indian street food, Bundobust is unbeatable—don't miss the Paneer Tikka skewers! One of my all-time favourite breweries, now sadly closed, was Liverpool's Mad Hatter Brewery. Known for unique beers like Tzatziki Sour and the outrageous Smokey Bacon and Banana Rauchbier, they embodied creativity in brewing. Though gone, Mad Hatter remains a legend in the modern beer scene.Today, a lesser-known brewery, Colbier Brew Co, is carrying the torch. Founded in 2024 on a Bootle industrial estate, Colbier is making waves with Proper Sound Beers inspired by music. Founders Mike Corbett, Vik, and Stu have already showcased their brews at top venues like Manchester's Port Street Beer House and Sheffield's The Old Shoe.In this episode, I chat with Mike and Stu about launching a brewery with tight budgets, digging drainage channels with jackhammers, and crafting great beers on a DIY setup. I also speak with Sarah Marshall from Crisp Malting Group about the 2024 British malt harvest and what brewers can expect.THIS WEEK'S EPISODE IS PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY: Charles Faram & Co (charlesfaram.com) Supplying hops for over 150 years, Charles Faram offers a vast range of nitrogen-flushed hop varieties from the UK, Europe, New Zealand, and the USA.Crisp Malting Group (crispmalt.com) Since 1870, Crisp has blended tradition with innovation, producing malts like Chevallier Heritage and Clear Choice Malt.FOLLOW HOP FORWARD hopforward.beer | LinkedIn | BlueSky | Instagram

Where is God to be found when you face a no-joke reality of a terminal diagnosis for cancer? Two comedians, who are both Christians, are facing just this challenge. This discussion between these two men will transform the way you think about terminal illness. This is an uplifting show with two people who feel even closer to God than before they received their devastating news. Allan Finnegan competed in the 2020 series of the ITV variety competition Britain's Got Talent and got to the semi-finals with his comedy act. After the show, Allan a Baptist minister continued working at his church in Bootle as normal but sought medical advice when he started to experience some issues with his vision in 2022. He has now been given one year to live after being diagnosed with a rare cancer and has been told by doctors they can do nothing more for him. Steve Legg is also a funnyman of faith who was given 120 days to live. He's already passed that and phenomenally successful book The Last Laugh tells the gripping story of rather than get busy dying he got busy living. Like Allan, Steve's story offers genuine hope in the face of death. @stevelegguk on X and get his book here Allan's treatment is not available on the NHS but you help pay for his potentially life-saving treatment here Check out previous shows on this topic • Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/courses • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate

'25 for 25' was a finalist in the category of "Best Football Podcast - International" at the 2023 Football Content Awards. I traveled to Liverpool, England to attend the award ceremony at Anfield Stadium and while I didn't end up winning, I was ultimately able to spread the story of the Miami Fusion far and wide. While I was in town, I took the opportunity to attend a local non-league match featuring Bootle FC and, because I'm me, I took my recording equipment with me so I could capture a slice of life for this English team to bring back to American fans upon my return. In this episode you'll get to hear about Bootle's past & present and then we cap off the episode with a true stream of consciousness that occurred in the clubhouse, after the match.Enjoy! In 2001, despite putting together one of the best seasons in MLS history (at that point and arguably since), the decision was made to fold the Fusion. While MLS soccer has returned to Miami in the form of David Beckham's Inter Miami, much has been discussed of "what could've been?" Had the Miami Fusion been allowed to stay and build. Indeed, what WOULD a Miami Fusion look like in 2023?This podcast tells the story of the Miami Fusion through the voices of those who actually lived it. 25 interviews across 25 episodes charting the good, the bad, and the unbelievable.

This week's podcast is truly inspiring for those who want to follow their own path away from the mainstream and for those who would like to improve their performance as professional dancer, choreographer and performance coach Rob Glover is Fairclough and Ansnes' LFC Talk guest. Coming from Bootle, Glover took up ballet to improve his footwork in boxing and the rest is history - working for Strickly Come Dancing in the UK and Dancing with the Stars in the US, but even more impressive is it how he started teaching dance in countries like Finland at the age of 15. Rob is an avid Red and shares how being a football fanatic is both of great help and hurdles in his international career. Enjoy!

Liverpool - EnglandLiverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England. Its population in 2019 was approximately 498,042. This makes Liverpool the tenth-largest English district by population, and the largest in Merseyside and the surrounding region. It lies within the UK's sixth-most populous urban area. Liverpool's metropolitan area is the fifth-largest in the UK with a population of 2.24 million.Liverpool is on the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary and historically lay within the ancient hundred of West Derby in North West England's county of Lancashire. It became a borough in 1207 and a city in 1880. In 1889, it became a county borough independent of Lancashire. Its growth as a major port was paralleled by the expansion of the city throughout the Industrial Revolution. Along with general cargo, freight, and raw materials such as coal and cotton, merchants were involved in the slave trade. In the 19th century, Liverpool was a major port of departure for English and Irish emigrants to North America. It was home to both the Cunard and White Star Line, and was the port of registry of the ocean liners RMS Titanic, RMS Lusitania, RMS Queen Mary, and RMS Olympic. This Episode contains the Hometown Murder Cases of:Anthony Delano Walker (21 February 1987 – 30 July 2005) was a Black British student of Jamaican descent who was murdered with an ice axe by Michael Barton (brother of footballer Joey Barton) and Barton's cousin Paul Taylor, in an unprovoked, racially motivated attack on the night of 29 July 2005 in Huyton, Merseyside. Walker was eighteen years old and was in his second year of A-levels. He lived with his parents, Gee Walker and Steve Walker, his two sisters and one brother. The case recently turned into a BBC drama.Rhys Milford Jones (27 September 1995 – 22 August 2007) was murdered in Liverpool at the age of 11 when he was shot in the neck. Sean Mercer, aged 16 at the time of the shooting, went on trial on 2 October 2008, and was found guilty of murder on 16 December. Mercer was sentenced to life imprisonment serving a minimum of 22 years.James Patrick Bulger (16 March 1990 – 12 February 1993) was a 2-year-old boy from Kirkby, Merseyside, England, who was abducted, tortured and killed by two 10-year-old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, on Friday, 12 February 1993. Bulger was led away from the New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle as his mother had taken her eyes off him momentarily. His mutilated body was found on a railway line 2.5 miles (4 km) away in Walton, Liverpool, two days after his abduction. Thompson and Venables were charged on 20 February 1993 with Bulger's abduction and murder.
On February 12th, 1993, two ten year old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, lured James Bulger away from his mother in an arcade in the New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle, Liverpool. They then led James about 2 and a half miles across the city to Walton, where they brought him to this stretch of train tracks that was rarely used. They then used bricks and sticks that they found nearby to beat him up and basically torture him until they finally killed him. James was not even three years old when he died. This story is incredibly heartbreaking, and really makes you realize that there are some things that you never expect to happen. We hope you all can learn from what happened to James and hopefully we can stop something like this from ever happening again. Stay safe out there.
