Christmas songs are seen as a pivotal part of the holiday season. They bring feelings of nostalgia, festivity, family and memories. Classics like Jingle Bell Rock and Santa Claus is Coming to Town just make the season feel complete. However, not all Christmas songs are made the same, in fact some songs and artists should probably avoid the holiday season altogether. So what makes a bad Christmas song? Holiday cringe, ill fitting genres, celebrity cash ins and melancholy overload. This week Dave will introduce an entire playlist of what have been deemed as less than classic Christmas songs, and to be honest, are just bad overall. On this episode we embarked on an intriguing exploration of a specific niche within cinema: bad Christmas movies. Our focus centered on two distinct categories within this theme. First, we examined a few b-movies (Elves and Santa Claws) notorious for their subpar production - the kind that are so poorly made, they loop around to being entertaining in their own right. Think questionable acting, laughable special effects, and plots so absurd they become fascinating. Second, we shifted gears to Christmas movies where the joy of the holiday is drastically undermined for the characters, leading to gruesome outcomes. Here, the traditional warmth and cheer of the season are upended, resulting in narratives where Christmas, instead of being a time of celebration, becomes a backdrop for chaos, carnage, and nightmares. Films discussed include À l'intérieur aka Inside, I Trapped The Devil, and Hosts. Through this dual lens, we attempted to uncover the peculiar charm and lessons hidden in these cinematic misadventures and misfortunes.
