The Chicago Bears' offensive line faces a pivotal competition at left tackle. With Braxton Jones recovering from injury, newcomers like Azie Tripillo and Kieran Amagaje vie for the starting role. The Bears' draft strategy, including the selection of Coltson Loveland, hints at their plans for pending free agents. Kevin Byard's future with the team remains uncertain, while Andrew Billings may be phasing out. The defensive line rotation promises to be formidable with additions like Grady Jarrett and Shemar Turner. The Chicago Bears have gaps in their defensive front and need to add quality depth to the defensive tackle position. The roster currently features two strong interior defenders, Gervon Dexter and Andrew Billings, with additional depth from Zacch Pickens and Chris Williams. Pickens has underperformed since he was selected 65th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. While Williams provided a nice spark with some upside last season, the Bears should not rely on him to be the third defensive tackle. They must concentrate on adding quality depth through both free agency and the draft. The best opportunity for the Bears to acquire new talent along the defensive front will be during the early and middle rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears' pursuit of Trey Smith heats up as franchise tag day passes without him being tagged. While Smith remains the top target, the Bears must consider backup plans like Will Fries and Kevin Zeitler. The defensive line emerges as a critical area of focus, with the interior needing significant upgrades alongside edge rushers. Andrew Billings and Javon Dexter show promise, but depth is lacking. Ben Johnson's arrival brings a win-now mentality, emphasizing the importance of bolstering both offensive and defensive lines. Safety also becomes a priority due to Jaquan Brisker's health concerns and Kevin Byard's contract situation. The Chicago Bears' offseason needs extend beyond the offensive line. Edge rusher and defensive tackle top the list, with running back and safety close behind. Montez Sweat needs a complementary pass rusher, while the interior defensive line struggled after Andrew Billings' injury. The Bears must address their backfield, potentially through the draft or free agency. Safety remains a concern due to Jaquan Brisker's injury history and Kevin Byard's contract situation. Wide receiver depth and a veteran backup quarterback are also on the radar. Tune in for heated debates on Braxton Jones' future, Ian Willer's potential, and the surprising Tyler Scott criticism. The Autumn Windbags: The Best Las Vegas Raiders Podcast Ever!
Welcome to episode 166 of The Autumn Windbags! Question of the Day, what is the Raiders biggest need heading into the 2023 NFL Draft? It can be whatever "biggest need" means to you. RJ's biggest needs are as follows: 1. Cornerback - Nate Hobbs regressed and he should be in the slot anyway. Need two starting corners but at least have some depth. 2. Defensive Tackle - Neil Farrell and Matthew Butler couldn't get playing time on a trash defense. Nichols and Tillery are place holders. Why'd we let Andrew Billings go? If this group can get their shit together the rest of the squad will look better. 3. Linebacker - Spillane and Masterson are cast off back ups while Divine Deablo hasn't developed but has some potential. 4. Quarterback - Jimmy Garoppolo is a placeholder and always gets hurt. If you don't have a franchise QB, you are looking for one. 5. Safety - Trevon Moehrig regressed in his second year and he's the only thing close to a starter on the squad. 6. Tight end - Austin Hooper and OJ Howard on cheap, one year deals. Only reason this isn't higher is the rest of our skill position players at tits. 7. Defensive end - God bless you, Maxx Crosby. Chandler Jones is staying for at least one more season. Malcom Koonce is not developing like we hoped. 8. Guard - Alex Bars is the weak link and Dylan Parham is likely headed to center at some point. 9. Center - Andre James for now. Need depth. 10. Tackle - Kolton Miller is a rock. Jermaine Eluemunor's job to lose on the right side. 11. Running Back - Does any team need six running backs? Only issue is did no other RB's get time because Josh Jacobs was so good or because they suck? 12. Wide Receiver - Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow, Jakobi Meyers. One of the best wide receiver rooms in football. Depth is an issue with mostly undrafted/practice squad guys fitting a specific niche. 13. Punter - AJ Cole is a two time Pro Bowler. 14. Kicker - Daniel Carlson is the best kicker in the NFL. Shove it, Justin Tucker. The value of looking at mock drafts is picking up trends and seeing value of general positions. Soto has seen over 50 2023 NFL Mock Drafts and this one is his favorite: https://theathletic.com/4413880/2023/04/17/nfl-7-rounds-mock-draft-2023/ The Raiders pick Devon Witherspoon, Trenton Simpson, Sam Laporta, Colby Wooden, Aidan O'Connell, AT Perry, Jordan Battle, Jon Gaines II, Ryan Hayes, Chris Rodriguez. There is little doubt the Atlanta Falcons must rebuild their defense and it starts up front. Host Aaron Freeman takes over as the Falcons general manager for the day and picks five free agents he'd at to the front seven to get the ball rolling. He reviews his process and why he thinks the Falcons can follow a similar blueprint as the Cincinnati Bengals, who went from a league-low 17 sacks in 2020 to 42 sacks in 2021, by rebuilding their front via free agency and trades. He breaks down why ex-New Orleans Saints like Marcus Davenport, Sheldon Rankins, and Mario Edwards, Jr. would be great fits for the Falcons, and why Andrew Billings would be a solid run-plugger in the middle of the defensive line. He also discusses why Kaden Elliss' pass-rush ability makes him a preferable option over other linebackers in Tremaine Edmunds, David Long Jr., and Bobby Okereke.Part of the @LockedOnATLFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
