This week's podcast we can finally talk about those big games we've been playing, or a few of them, at least! Not only is it Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth time, it's also time for justice: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy time. As Lyle has been playing Capcom's trilogy for a while now, Adam has been having the time of his life in Hawaii, finishing off the latest in Ichiban and Kasuga's tale. Elsewhere, all three of the gang (Chris Hyde is back, finally!) have been playing a lovely indie called Lil' Guardsman which the whole team has been keeping an eye on for a while now. Does it live up to the hopes we had, and what on earth is it thinking releasing during the madness that is January in games? ► Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/EGQUs9d9 ► Support us via Patreon: http://Patreon.com/GodisaGeek and get a bonus exclusive pod! In Episode 8 of Indieventure, we re-introduce an old favourite concept of ours from days gone by: the Indieventure Vault, an eclectic mind-palace of our own construction where we store the very best indie games, blending personal favourites with undeniable classics. Previous inductees — which we take the time to re-induct, since this Vault is completely legally distinct from any other indie game Vaults you might be thinking about — are two all-time favourite indie games from each of us. Rebecca carefully places Monster Prom and Firewatch on a commemorative shelf, Rachel chucks Kentucky Route Zero and Return of the Obra Dinn in the same vague direction, and Liam drop-kicks Hypnospace Outlaw and Paradise Killer into a hole in the ground, but like, respectfully. Everyone's very on-form. Then it's time to introduce some new games to the collection, and this time we've each selected one indie game that we all feel is just far too important to omit. For Liam, that's just got to be Stardew Valley; Rachel makes a compelling case for the enduring appeal of Disco Elysium; and Rebecca uses science (after a fashion) to conclude that Hades really needs to be there too. And, not least of all because 10 vaulted games is a nice round number to start off with, we also put Dredge on a special shelf of its own to indicate that it was our very first Indieventure Game of the Year in 2023. Hyperfixations this week see Rachel still obsessed with The Traitors: Series 2, Rebecca still obsessed with Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, and Liam reading Masters of Doom by David Kushner like a proper adult.
THIS WEEK: Joe puts up his boxing gloves to reboot Nintendo's original fighting franchise on Wii in Punch-Out!! (2009) and Peter perceives lies in the courtroom with a magical bracelet to discover why a famous lawyer got disbarred with Toshihiko Horiyama's work in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.
The long hot Summer is over. No more bathing suits, BBQs, sunburns, and mosquitos. Making way for the tastiest of all seasons, Pumpkin Spice Season. Unlike these seasons, the Grinders don't take off the rest of the year! We will be here for Pumpkin Spice Season, Spooky Season, Football Season, Baseball Season, Basketball Season, Air-Conditioning Season, Spring, and the worst season of them all, Frostbite Season. It's ALWAYS Grinder Season! Unlike Pumpkin Spice, we all will be able to enjoy these releases long into the Freezing Your Ass Off Season. A new entry in the Like a Dragon series, Infinite Wealth, the Apollo Justice Ace Attorney trilogy, Rushing Beat X, and The Legends of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 all come out early next year. For the people not willing to wait till next year, Blossom Tails 2 and Triggerheart Exelica will both release before the end of the Empty Wallet Season. Every Friday is Grinder Season. The season wouldn't be as magical if we didn't address our Stinkoes and celebrate our Sweetoes. It just wouldn't be a normal season unless Break was angry about the Ohio Republican Party. It would be a first if the police managed to not piss off Frank and to not be a Stinko. We all know they are and we know they will make a "guest" appearance next Grinder Season. It isn't not all bad news for the Police as they finally get to celebrate a Sweeto... sorta. This Grinder Season wouldn't be complete without the final results of the of latest and greatest tournament known to humankind! This Season the Grinders finally decide who will be the Greatest Mascot of All Time. Sixty-four of the great ones entered. Now eight remain. Only one can be champion. Will Ronald McDonald and his Happy Meal Gang be able to fend off the one Chef wrecking crew known as Boyardee? Will the Scrubbin Bubbles clean up the mess the Kool-Aid man left? Will the too cool for school Spuds McKenzie enjoy a free trip to Geoffrey's castle or will the Giraffe send Spuds home crying to his house full of Dallas Cheerleaders? Will two attractive twins be able to win against a Man who is so Interesting that even his beard has its own fan club? Another Grinder Season has come and gone. Don't worry because Grinder Season will be back next Friday LIVE and hopefully not as buggy! Grinder Season will be here through all of the other less awesome seasons! Public service announcements: Don't be on that bitter old man shit. Don't forget to have your Break Man spayed or neutered.

Anne Ladyem (anneladyem.com) and Jared have reached the milestone of fifty episodes! To celebrate, we decided to talk about one of AL's favorite games in Apollo Justice or Ace Attorney 4. We talk about why this game is as good as it is coming off the original Ace Attorney trilogy, what makes the new mechanics, characters, and storytelling work so well, and why the later games have not been the best for Apollo.
