Sam konnte schon einen längeren Blick auf LIFE IS STRANGE: REUNION werfen, sehr vielversprechend ist außerdem THE ETERNAL LIFE OF GOLDMAN. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Vragen of opmerkingen? Mail ons! Op allinthegame@bnr.nl Over All in the GameAll in the Game is de podcast over games voor iedereen. Het komt allemaal aan bod in All in the Game. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In Teilen!

We're getting festive today on Rhythm Encounter, but maybe not in the way you'd expect. It's the end of year holiday season, and we are taking inspiration from a holiday that celebrates another thing I like as much as video game music: books! Jólabókaflóðið — which roughly translates to "Christmas book flood" — is an Icelandic Christmas Eve tradition where people gift each other books and stay up reading them, possibly with a nice hot cocoa. We thought this was a great opportunity to provide some excellent video game music to pair with various authors, genres, and specific reads. Please join our assembled panel of connoisseurs as we discuss the two together. Happy reading, listening, and holidays!Featuring: Hilary Andreff, Rob White, Audra Bowling, and Matt Wardell; Edited by Mike SalbatoLinks and books mentioned in this episodeJólabókaflóðið official siteBetween Two Fires - Chris Buehlman (The Road x Dark Souls)Blade Runner “Ash” Comic Series (2019, 2029, 2039) - Michael Green and Mike JohnsonBrave Story - Miyuki MiyabeChronicles of the Avatar Series - F.C. New episode out now! We went deep into our childhood memories and played the 1998 PC game Detective Barbie In the Mystery of the Carnival Caper! We talk about the straightforward nature of following clues in a linear fashion, get frustrated by Barbie walking slowly and getting stuck, discuss our shared (or not so shared) past with the game, and compare the point and click nature to Disco Elysium with surprising results. We also cover the character design archetypes, discover the ending is different every time, follow a mysterious shadowy figure, and ultimately realize this was a game for children. Katy was a cool rebellious preteen, Carrie has Madame Webb on the brain, Maddy has no patience, and Mack tries to share more Batman lore. We also get into video game design and development over the years, demonstrate the soundscapes we encountered, learn the nature of true love is fervent competition, and delve into why we love mysteries. Listen to hear more about tourist name souvenirs, jetskis, Paul Blart, dinosaurs, and rotational physics. (You will also hear a lot of Barbie imitations). Enjoy!TW: Sexism, discussion of neurodivergent tendencies

Hailing from Cork, Ireland, songwriters Cathal Coughlan and Sean O'Hagan formed the band Microdisney in 1980. After relocating to London in 1983, the band recorded six Peel Sessions for BBC Radio and released their debut album for Rough Trade called 'Everybody Is Fantastic'. This week's guest, musician, filmmaker, podcaster and radio host Alexei Shishkin, joins us to discuss the band and that record. The duo's combination of lushly orchestrated pop paired with wryly poetic, at times biting lyrics were right up Alexei's musical alley, and we're here for it! Songs discussed in this episode: Dear Rosemary - Microdisney; Disco Elysium, Tiki Taka - Alexei Shishkin; Palm Of My Hand - The Pale Fountains; Horse Overboard - Microdisney; Pack Yr Romantic Mind - Stereolab; Blues For Ceausescu - The Fatima Mansions; McCardle Brown - Sean O'Hagan; Idea, A Few Kisses, Escalator In The Rain - Microdisney; Half A Person - The Smiths; Dolly (Live, Barbican sessions 2018), Dolly - Microdisney; The King Of Rock 'N' Roll - Prefab Sprout; Dreaming Drains, I'll Be A Gentleman, Moon, Sun, Sleepless, Come On Over and Cry, This Liberal Love, Before Famine, Everybody Is Dead, Everybody Is Dead (Peel session) - Microdisney; Ode To Carl Dennis - Alexei Shishkin

Gaming hosts Josh, Ryan, and John are diving deep into the gritty, surreal world of Disco Elysium—and not by choice! This episode of Hijack a Host sees John reluctantly stepping into the role of an amnesiac detective after a listener vote, forcing him to play one of the most unconventional video games in recent memory. Was the experience worth it? Has John seen the light, or is he begging for a return to Expedition 33? We're breaking down everything from the game's unique dialogue system to its political themes and unorthodox mechanics. If you're into video games that challenge the norms and throw you into philosophical gaming spirals, this episode's for you. This week, Anna runs a solo mission straight into the fog, Fogtown, that is. She's joined by Sean Parker, the puppet-wrangling, genre-bending mastermind behind Fogtown, the only detective story brave enough to ask: what if a puppet version of Sherlock Holmes had imposter syndrome, a spatula sword, and a head that occasionally falls off? We talk about how the pandemic turned a scrappy puppet TV show idea into a fully modular FMV game with real performances, rotating virtual sets, and actors from Phantasmagoria, Disco Elysium, and Contradiction. Sean spills the tea on a mystery publisher who ghosted harder than a Tinder date, how to keep a puppet's head attached during a fight scene, and why FMV deserves a weirder, brighter comeback. Plus: a tribute to the irreplaceable Roberta Vaughan, who championed lovely indie projects like Fogtown long before the rest of us caught on. Wishlist A Rum Case In Fogtown! Play our adventure game! In this heartfelt and revealing episode of Bonfire Conversations, I sit down with Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, the lead writer of the critically acclaimed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. We dive deep into her creative process, her unique path from finance to storytelling, and the emotional, philosophical, and human layers that make Expedition 33 such a profound experience.Jennifer opens up about her multicultural background, the power of empathy in storytelling, and how curiosity, hardship, and connection shape the way she writes. We also explore how she handles exposition, builds authentic characters, and creates narratives that truly resonate with players — all without ever underestimating their intelligence.Whether you're a writer, game developer, or a fan of thoughtful storytelling, this conversation is packed with insights, vulnerability, and inspiration.
“In February of '21 I just randomly started. I just filmed a video, and I was like, ‘Okay, whatever.' Well, it was February 11th, and then February 15th we were on our way to pick up my dog, my puppy at the time – she was you know, nine weeks old – and I started getting notifications on my phone and I was like, ‘Oh, weird, I must have left some somebody, like, a comment on YouTube or something.' And all of a sudden, I look and I'm like, ‘Whoa, my video is popping off.' I was like, ‘What do I do with this?' And so I just, like, doubled down.” – Marco Cammarota This week's guest is a professional opera singer turned voice actor turned YouTuber. He grew up loving video games and video-game music after first discovering them when he was seven years old, and since then he's lived and breathed all things video games. He has a YouTube channel all about video game music – the beauty of modern composition, how it allows us to connect deeper to the games we love, and how we can better learn to understand ourselves through it and the experiences it provides. His name is Marco Cammarota – sometimes known as “Marco Meatball” – and I've been looking forward to hearing about his musical influences and his love of sound, particularly when it comes to video games, for a while now. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. If you have questions for me, visit audiobrandingpodcast.com, where you'll find a lot of ways to get in touch. Plus, subscribing to the newsletter will let you know when the new podcasts are available, along with other interesting bits of audio-related news. And if you're getting some value from listening, the best ways to show your support are to share this podcast with a friend and leave an honest review. Both those things really help, and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. You can leave one either in written or in voice format from the podcast's main page. I would so appreciate that. (0:00:00) - From Opera to YouTubeWe start things off with Marco's early memories of sound, particularly the songs his Italian grandmother used to play when he was a child. “Even the sound of the accordion triggers like a deep sense of nostalgia for me,” he recalls. “When it comes to music like that, that soundscape is really, really poignant to me.” He tells us more about how his childhood led him to opera, voice work, and even YouTube. “The desire to communicate and express,” Marco explains, “was the thing that awakened through this, like summer camp, and then I think that that's what led me down the path of musical theater and eventually opera, and, then voiceover and now this current career.”(0:16:30) - Video Game Music's Healing PowerMarco discusses the impact of his father's passing and the solace he found both in grief counseling and through video game music. “Grief counseling is something everyone should do if possible,” he shares, “just because grief is such a powerful and painful feeling. There are really no words to describe how bad it feels.” He talks about some of the game soundtracks that helped him process those emotions, from Outer Wilds to Disco Elysium, and one particularly timeless classic. “Final Fantasy is really based around classical and prog rock,” he explains, “and sometimes integrating the two in one setting. It's an incredible thing that most of my childhood was based around Final Fantasy's sound, and I think, like, largely that's why I also gravitated towards being sensitive to sound and music.”(0:24:21) - The...
