Draper, Eala, Mensik, Andreeva...We have some new faces in the winners circle. Indian Wells and Maimi Open did not disapoint. We give a run down of all our favorite moments from the last 3 weeks on tour. Enjoy
"Serving Aces" with Alexandra Stevenson and co-host Hugues Laverdière discuss the Miami Open, the players, the surface, and the reason why some players can handle the "swampy" conditions and others can't - clearly by the top ten players that went out on both sides. Alexandra says Swiatek plays without joy. She mentions Andreeva having some looks of Martina Hingis - but she says no one has ever been able to match Hingis' hands. Alexandra says the budding superstar of tennis is Fonseca of Brazil. She says with 400,000 Brazilians living in Miami the match against de Minaur became Davis Cup raucous energy with the crowd erupting as they thought their player Fonseca could win. de Minaur from Australia kept his cool and managed to pull the win out in three sets. Ben Shelton hard launched his girl friend, Trinity Rodman, the soccer player.

Catherine, David and Matt discuss the opening week of action in Miami which has delivered plenty of shocks, controversial moments, and talking points. Part one - ATP Results. Why did all the Indian Wells semi-finalists lose early? What's up with Carlos Alcaraz right now? And just how good was Joao Fonseca's performance to beat Ugo Humbert? Part two - WTA Results (from 32m03s) Matt takes us through all the drama and aggro involving Amanda Anisimova and Mirra Andreeva as Anisimova stopped Andreeva's 13-match winning streak in the battle of the backhand listers. We also discuss the wonderful run of Alexandra Eala, Emma Raducanu's impressive win over Emma Navarro, and the way the Last 16 line-up is nicely set. Part three - News (from 55m09s) Our reaction to the PTPA's legal action against the Tours and what the player response so far means. Ben and Tumaini are back together again after tennis traveled through the desert of Indian Wells, discussing crowning a new queen teen, a steady Brit, and women's tennis going for a new look. We discuss Mirra Andreeva's success, her improvements, her admirable coach Conchita Martinez, and how her Russia nationality might play into her role as a new star. We also discuss Aryna Sabalenka's saltiness in defeat, and Iga Swiatek's long defense of herself after a semifinal tantrum. We also discuss Jack Draper and his journey (which Tumaini has covered closely), and how he's emerging at a time when other top men are flailing. This week was full of great tennis on both tours with Jack Draper playing some fantastic tennis to capture his first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells. Holger Rune was the finalist, having himself a great week on court for the first time in a long time. Mirra Andreeva goes back to back Masters 1000 titles taking down Sabalenka in epic fashion to reign supreme at IW 2025.
In "Serving Aces" - Alexandra Stevenson and Hugues Laverdière discuss the games of Draper and Andreeva. Draper's defense and his forehand proved too much for Rune. Andreeva beat back the number one Sabalenka in three sets. Andreeva showed her improved game from coach Conchita Martinez with her slice backhand and her serve spots. Andreeva hit a 126 mph serve. Alexandra's highest was 128 - and Alexandra said finally we have a server in 2025. Sabalenka says that if she had the coaching team of Andreeva at 17 - she would have won sooner and had less trouble. Alexandra talks Paris fashion week. Ougi talks about the beginning of Indian Wells and the trajectory of the various players. He takes apart the serve in Ougi's court. Ougi says Andreeva has the best backhand on Tour, at this moment.
Journalist Simon Cambers is the guest on this episode of the podcast, and he recaps the championship level performances by Jack Draper and Mirra Andreeva at Indian Wells. Cambers explains how Draper rounded into form to lift the trophy at Tennis Paradise, and analyzes the British man's potential to be a legit contender in the grand slam events. The writer also discusses why Andreeva has cemented herself as one of the top players on the WTA, and breaks down why the teenager's game is so effective against the best players in the world. Cambers then looks ahead to Miami, and assesses Novak Djokovic's chances to make a run in the second leg of the Sunshine Double. The author dives into Iga Swiatek's frustrations, Aryna Sabalenka's next move, and what to make of Carlos Alcaraz's uneven play. And Cambers chats about his own writing career, having covered pro tennis for over 25 years, and co-authoring the critically acclaimed "Roger Federer Effect" book. Hosted by Mitch Michals.
JACK DRAPER! Need we say more. Ok if we must… We're halfway into the Sunshine Swing and it's been a very memorable couple of weeks for two individuals out in the desert of Palm Springs at Indian Wells. Join Joel, Kim and Chris as they get giddy with excitement over how the Brit secured the biggest title of his career to date whilst moving into the Top 10 rankings for the first time, in help thanks to a semifinal win over Carlos Alcaraz. The trio also ponder whether he is a genuine Major contender, could it happen at Wimbledon and is an ATP Tour Finals appearance on the cards. And it was just as blockbuster in the women's event as Mirra Andreeva kept up her hot streak with back-to-back W1000 titles by getting the better of World Number 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final. The gang discuss just where the seventeen (!) year old sensation could go next and whether a No. 1 ranking is possible this season. They also look at what's going on with Iga Swiatek as she let frustration spill out onto court with a ball bash towards a ball boy that left her without reaching a tour level final for ten months and counting. We also look ahead to the Miami Open with mens and womens draw previews, the usual spicy predictions and discuss Rafael Nadal's sit down chat with Andy Roddick and decide for ourselves just what was Rafa's second best surface. He thinks grass - we're not so sure. Former pro tennis player and current Tennis Channel commentator Bradley Klahn joins the podcast to recap the dramatic action at Indian Wells, where several players are stepping up and elevating their games. Klahn explains why Carlos Alcaraz remains his dominant self in Tennis Paradise, and why lefty power-servers Jack Draper and Ben Shelton might have the best chance of anyone in defeating the all-worldly Spaniard. The 2010 NCAA Singles Champ also reviews Daniil Medvedev's dominant performance in the fourth round, Holger Rune's ability to reign in his game, and Tallon Griekspoor's breakthrough at the start of the season. Klahn also dives into the women's draw, where Iga Swiatek continues to dismantle the field. The commentator discusses Mirra Andreeva's annihilation of Elena Rybakina, Belinda Bencic's incredible comeback season after becoming a mom, and what has propelled Madison Keys to sustained success at Indian Wells, in her first event back since winning the Australian Open. The action in the desert is reaching the final stages, and Bradley Klahn breaks it all down on The Inside-In Tennis Podcast. Hosted by Mitch Michals.

Across Iron Age Central Eurasia, non-sedentary people created, viewed, and considered animal-style imagery, creating designs replete with feline bodies with horse hooves, deer-birds, animals in combat, and other fantastic creatures. Fantastic Fauna from China to Crimea: Image-Making in Eurasian Nomadic Societies, 700 BCE-500 CE (Edinburgh University Press, 2023) focuses on this animal-style imagery, examining the dissemination of this image system. Filled with fascinating images carefully chosen from an enormous geographical scope, Petya Andreeva's vivid book explores how communities used animal-style design to create and define status, to bond alliances together, and to showcase steppe know-how and worldliness in sedentary communities. Fantastic Fauna should appeal to those in Eurasian history, East Asian history, art and archeology, and those interested in thinking about steppe art. Interested listeners should also check out Petya's chapter on the Golden Hoard (available here), part of an Open-Access UNESCO volume on the Silk Roads. Learn more about your ad choices.
