Bonjour from Roland-Garros, well we should say the Jardin du Luxembourg for a special edition of Tennis Weekly Journal as Alina and Chris have ventured into the city and found the local tennis courts. On today's episode they cover the epic match between Gael Monfils and Jack Draper that lit up the Night session and Philippe-Chatrier in one of the matches of the tournament. They debate the French Open crowd, asking if they go too far after they helped a clearly injured Arthur Fils hobble over the line against an increasingly irritated Jaume Munar on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Would he have won without the crowd? Alina doesn't think so and neither does Arthur. As well as the on court action, the Night Session being exclusively reserved for Men's matches has become a hot topic once again. Will there ever be a solution and can a solution be found whilst the Prime tennis contract exists in France? Alina and Chris try to provide some context on the increasingly repetitive and polarising topic as it isn't as simple as scheduling a women's match in the night session slot.As well as the more thought provoking topics, in true Tennis Weekly Journal style there is fun to be had as Alina and Chris recount their galette experience at lunch and the debate is settled, in future it's sugar and butter for them!PROPERTY HUB INVESTIf you're serious about property, head to https://propertyhub.net/start to take your first step.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. 'Fonsequismo' invade Roland-Garros: torcida do brasileiro João Fonseca marca torneio de tênis francês

Reportagem

Play Episode Listen Later May 30, 2025 10:48

"A expectativa é a maior possível. "A gente coloca muita fé nele porque ele sempre surpreende a gente", diz a tia, Paula Fonseca.

With Miami reaching its climax, Catherine, David and Matt catch up to discuss scheduling issues, more struggles for top players, and what might happen over the weekend. Part one - WTA Results. We start with a rant about the scheduling before moving on to happier things and Alex Eala's incredible run to the semi-finals. The flip side of that, however, is digesting a shocking performance from Iga Swiatek. What can we expect from her clay court season as her title drought continues? There's also chat about an encouraging tournament for Emma Raducanu as well as Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Jasmine Paolini discovering some of their best form. Part two - ATP Results (from 38m57s). We hail Grigor Dimitrov's incredible effort to beat Francisco Cerundolo and reach the semi-finals, revel in a couple of wonderful wins for Arthur Fils, and wonder if Alexander Zverev is currently playing worse than any world number two ever. Part three (from 61m57s). Any other business including the one year anniversary of The Barge, our next edition of Tennis Re-Lived, and shout outs.
