Caleb Hans Polashek leads a varied music career as a solo, orchestral, chamber, and collaborative performer, composer, and recording artist. He began studying violin at an early age, eventually earning a post graduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin's highly esteemed studio of Brian Lewis at The Butler School of Music. He has performed domestically and internationally, joined the violin section of the Austin Symphony Orchestra in 2012, and released an original album entitled Illumination in 2023. Caleb makes his home in Austin, Texas.

He teaches applied trumpet lessons to music performance and music education majors, directs trumpet ensembles, and teaches courses in high brass methods, among other resposibilities. Prior to OSU, he taught applied trumpet at The University of Texas at San Antonio from 2015-2019 and at Texas Lutheran University from 2011-2018.Dr. Cooper is a member of RotoЯ Brass. A new brass duo created to promote new commissions and elevate the trumpet and horn chamber music setting. The RotoЯ Brass inaugural performance will be in March 2020 at the International Duo Symposium where they will be featured guest artists. The other member of RotoЯ Brass is Dr. Zachary Cooper, Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Horn at the University of Montana, Dr. Joseph Cooper's identical twin brother. Cooper is an active performer having appeared frequently with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Symphony Brass Quintet and Austin Opera in recent years. Additional performances include the Colorado Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, and the Breckenridge Music Festival orchestras, among others. Trumpet students of Dr. Cooper succeed at all levels. College students under his direction have been admitted to top graduate music programs in trumpet performance, have performed at summer festivals nationally and internationally, hold positions in regional ensembles, have won TMEA teaching scholarships, and have become successful band directors. His private lessons students have auditioned into the National Youth Orchestra and NYO2, have been accepted into music conservatories as performance majors, regularly achieve positions in All-State ensembles, and have been invited to perform at the National Trumpet Competition. He holds degrees from powerhouse trumpet programs including Indiana University- Bloomington (BM), Rice University (MM) and The University of Texas at Austin (DMA). His former teachers include John Almeida, John Rommel, Marie Speziale, and Ray Sasaki. Nick Hammel, a Butler School senior majoring in violin performance is now the youngest musician in the Austin Symphony Orchestra after he recently won an audition for the Principal Second Violin position. He trains at the Butler School under Associate Professor of Practice in Violin Performance Sandy Yamamoto.

In 2016, Paul Pape completed his 6th year as the Percussion Director at Vandegrift High School in Austin, TX. During his tenure at VHS, the percussion section has been highly successful in many areas of percussion performance including solo, percussion ensemble, and marching percussion. The VHS Drumline, under the direction of Mr. Pape, has received numerous awards and honors across the state, including first-place finishes at several drumline contests, numerous band festival caption awards, and three finalist appearances at the prestigious Lone Star Drumline Contest. In 2015, the VHS Drumline also won 1st Place and was awarded the “Caldwell Cup” at the Lone Star Drumline Contest. In addition to his percussive responsibilities, Mr. Pape has been an integral part of the success of the VHS Concert and Marching Bands helping the group earn several accolades including numerous TMEA Honor Band State finalists placements, BOA Regional Class Championships, San Antonio BOA Super Regional Finalist placements, BOA Super Regional Class Championships, the Silver Medal at the 2015 5A Texas State Marching Band Championship, and were named the 4A Texas State Marching Band Champions in 2013. Before coming to VHS Mr. Pape served as the Percussion Director for Cedar Park HS from 2008-2010 where his students earned numerous individual and group awards including the 2008 PASIC Championship and the 2009 Lone Star Drumline Contest Championship where they were also awarded the prestigious “Caldwell Cup”. Prior to his time at Cedar Park High School, Mr. Pape began his career as an Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at Georgetown High School from 2002-2008 where his bands received superior ratings and his percussion sections were consistently successful. Under the direction of Mr. Pape, the GHS Drumline was awarded 1st place at the Central Texas Drumline Invitational in 2003, 2004 and 2006, 1st Place at the 2007 Plano Drumline Contest, the 2006 PASIC Championship & Fred Sanford Award, as well as the 2006 Lone Star Drumline Contest Championship. Outside of his primary teaching position, Mr. Pape founded, organized, and conducted the Region 26 Percussion Ensemble, was on staff for the 2004 High Percussion Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, and has served as a clinician/consultant to programs throughout Texas. Paul is a 2001 graduate of Southwest Texas State University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree. As a performer, Paul has performed with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Lyric Opera and several bands around the Austin/San Antonio area. Skinner is a native of West Plains, Missouri and a recent graduate of the University of Missouri. He was a member of the award-winning University Singers under the direction of R. Paul Crabb, and recently made his opera debut as Ruggiero in Handel's Alcina with the Show-Me Opera under the direction of Christine Seitz. Skinner has been a featured soloist for the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Odyssey Bach Collegium, the First Place winner of the NATS Mid-Missouri Competition, and has performed with choral ensembles in New York City, Chicago, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia. Skinner lives in Austin, TX where he sings with the Chorus Austin Symphonic and Chamber Choirs and works for Google as a Cloud Technical Resident.
Download Episode! Today I am talking with two local band director rock-stars, Erin Holmes and Bradley Mariska from Farmington High School in Farmington, MN. As the Director of Bands at Farmington High School, Erin Holmes conducts the Wind Ensemble, Varsity Band, Jazz I, Birdland Jazz, and is the head director of the Farmington Tiger Marching Band.In 2017, School Band and Orchestra Magazine named Holmes one of the nation's “50 Directors Who Make a Difference. She is the Jazz Chair for Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) in 2018, she is the first woman in the organization's history to be chosen for this position. Bradley Mariska has been the Associate Director of Bands at Farmington High School since 2016. At FHS, he conducts the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz II, Jazz III, and is the Assistant Director of the Farmington Tiger Marching Band. Mariska has served as an All-State Band Section Coach and has held the position of Director on the boards of several arts organizations including the Austin Area Commission for the Arts, Austin Symphony Orchestra, and Pine Center for the Arts. He also taught at the MacPhail Center for Music at both their Apple Valley and Austin locations. Brad was recently elected as the Minnesota Music Educators Association Vice President. David Neubert was one of the early champions of the International Society of Bassists. He hosted conventions at UT-Austin (1986) and Interlochen (1993). He was the Principal Bass of the Springfield Symphony (Massachusetts), the Wichita Symphony and recently retired from the Austin Symphony Orchestra. He was a double bass professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Wichita State University, and The University of Texas at Austin.
