On this show:We reflected on how collective efforts can lead to enriched queer community within regional areas.Noted that the previous day had been International Day of Lesbian Visibility; and having unintentionally included some (probably also unintentional) exclusive language taken from a prime explanatory website, took some time to reflect on the intersectional gender nature of being a lesbian.Madison, Atlas and our guest Lunar shared their lived experiences of being queer folk with disability, living in a queerphobic and ableist society. Reflections includedhow being queer and disabled can be conjoined, and then judged, by ableist people.the hazards of queer disable persons internalising the judgements of others.how ableist behaviour is generally considered unacceptable, but yet it persists.visable and invisable disability, and how attitudes toward them can differ. How pride in oneself as a queer person with lived experience in disability actually adds to the inherent value we already have, as people who exist in the world.Lunar shared some of her poetry; The Battle Within, and Gaze in the Mirror. We ruminated a little on the expense of coffee under late stage capitalism (and why some spoons have holes in them).Community Links:TGD Bookclub, 10 May, 1 - 2:30pm, Free Event, Thorne Harbour Health Building 200 Hoddle St, Abbottsford; and online.Frooty Loops Meetup, 6 - 9pm, Every Second Sunday, Free Event, Little Foot Bar, 223 Barkly St, Footscray.Identity Test, A Trans Existential Drama and Caberet, at Butterfly Club, 5 Carson Place, Melbourne CBD. 7pm, 28th April to 3rd May; Tickets $39 standard, $35 concession.Queer Multicultural Carnival, 7th June, 10am - 6pm. The biggest battle we face is the war raging within. Today's episode of The Seven Figure Standard closely follows our last episode, ‘Going All In', as we examine our internal conflicts and how we can conquer them. We begin with the battle within and how the stories we tell ourselves shape our identity before moving on to getting rid of the stories that don't serve us. Then, we explore the role of self-awareness in quieting the two opposing voices in our heads, the dangers of holding onto bleak stories, why discipline matters, and everything you need to know to overcome an old story. We also discover where discipline fits in as you commit to new stories, why keeping a positive attitude will help you on your journey, how to surround yourself with the right people, and why you always need to ensure that your story is aligned with your goals. Key Points From This Episode:The battle within and how the stories you tell yourself shape your identity. How to rewrite the dominant story in your mind: getting rid of the stories that don't serve you. Gaining control of the two opposing voices in your head. Using self-awareness to change your story and go all in on improving your life. The dangers of accepting and holding onto negative stories. Choosing discipline over emotions and feelings. Unpacking the protocol for overcoming an old story. How your disposition affects the stories you're currently living (and why big ideas matter). Why it's important to take note of the company you keep. How to commit to new stories and why it's vital to always question your stories. Today we want to talk about a war that we all know far too well—the battle within. The battle that rages deep in our souls, between the spirit and the flesh, between who we are and who God has called us to be. It's the struggle that causes even the most devoted believer to cry out, “Why do I keep doing the very things I hate?” It is not an external enemy, but the one that lives inside—our desires, fears, doubts, and sinful nature.
Dr. Gerry Crete helps us unravel the confusion within us, why we have such deep internal conflicts and tensions that pull us in different directions and tear at our hearts. St. Paul tells us in Romans 7:15, “I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” What's up with that? Parts. Parts are up with that, that's what -- or who. And in this episode, Dr. Gerry and Bridget Adams shed so much light on our internal experience in our fallen human condition. Join us to learn about how parts, despite their good intentions and desires to help us, can generate impulses toward addictions and other problematic and even sinful behaviors. Learn how critical it is for parts to be integrated, to collaborate cooperatively with your inmost self, and most importantly, how parts can join in your loving God and neighbor with your whole heart in Dr. Gerry's experiential exercise. "The Battle Within" sermon focuses on the internal struggle Christians face between their sinful desires (the "flesh") and their desire to live righteously according to the Spirit, drawing heavily from Romans 7:15-25 where Paul describes this internal conflict as a "law of sin in my members" fighting against the "law of my mind."
Rom 7:13-25 Have you ever thought about why it's so hard to keep the promises you make to yourself? Certainly the new year can remind you of that. What is it within us that wars against us (especially when it comes to spiritual things)? We consider that question today and also the solution to our struggles as Pastor Andrew begins a special 2-part series.
