In this insightful interview, David Chambers shares his journey from a wild, adventurous life to becoming a men's coach focused on emotional connection, masculinity, and relationship health. He discusses societal narratives around masculinity, the impact of the man box, and practical ways men can evolve to create deeper, more authentic relationships.About David:David is a dating, relationships & intimacy coach for men. After growing up in a single-parent, female-dominated home with no male role model in his life, David struggled to understand what masculinity and a healthy romantic relationship entailed. After spending most of his 20s in meaningless dynamics and avoiding commitment. He went on a personal journey towards authenticity, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, purpose, harnessing his sexual energy, vulnerability, presence, openness, and honesty. Through this learning, he was able to break free from gender stereotypes and societal expectations of what a ‘real' man should be to become his true and authentic self.  He is now in a loving partnership with a son and supports other men to find more fulfilment in dating, love and relationship.Key Themes:Societal narratives around masculinity and the man boxThe impact of childhood imprints and societal conditioningThe role of vulnerability and emotional expression in men's livesPractical steps for men to develop self-awareness and emotional intelligenceThe influence of the Manosphere and alternative narratives on men's perceptionsChapters:00:00 Introduction to David Chambers02:15 David's Journey into Coaching05:58 The Impact of Breakups on Personal Growth11:28 Understanding Masculinity and Relationship Patterns15:58 Avoidance and Emotional Challenges in Men20:59 The Man Box and Its Effects on Men26:11 Navigating the Manosphere and Finding Authenticity30:19 Bridging the Gap: From 'I'm Fine' to Self-Awareness31:36 Unpacking Emotional Catharsis35:14 The Challenge of Personal Growth in Relationships40:26 Navigating Masculinity in Modern Society47:56 Confronting Societal Issues: Violence Against Women54:51 Finding Hope Amidst ChaosTo connect with David:Instagram - @theauthenticmanWebsite - https://www.theauthenticman.net/YouTube -  ⁨@TheAuthenticMan⁩

Navigating the Sale of a CPA Practice From A Seller Turned Intermediary

Poe Group Advisors' Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 12, 2026 19:03

Barbara Agerton flunked retirement. After selling her California CPA practice, she thought she'd ride off into the sunset with her husband. Instead, she got bored, picked up the phone, and asked if she could come work for the company that sold her firm. Now she's an intermediary at Poe Group Advisors, which means she gets to help other firm owners navigate the exact journey she just completed. Barbara knows what it feels like to let go of the practice you built, to wonder if you're doing the right thing, and to discover that the transition you were dreading turned out easier than expected. Barbara sold her practice after running it remotely from Texas for eight years. She transitioned to the cloud back in 2013, before that was the standard playbook, and built systems that allowed her team to run everything without her in the room. When it came time to sell, her buyer barely called during the transition. Barbara's feelings were a little hurt, but that's actually when she knew she'd done everything right. The conversation covers:How losing two key team members to relocations forced a pivot to cloud-based practice in 2013, and why the trust challenge of going remote was harder than expectedThe emotional reality of selling: "It's like cutting your arms off" when you stop interacting daily with people you've worked with for yearsWhy her buyer barely called during transition (which hurt her feelings but proved she'd built systems that didn't need her)The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey approach: stop solving every problem yourself and teach your team to find their own answersWhy she wishes she'd sold sooner instead of waiting, and how most sellers wait until illness or family situations force the decisionBarbara's biggest lesson? Most sellers wait too late. They wait until illness, family situations, or burnout force the sale. The best exits happen when you're selling from a position of strength, not desperation. The firms that sell the easiest are the ones where the owner has already slowly, gradually let go over years of building systems and empowering their team. The irony? Barbara prepared so well for retirement that she got bored and came back to work. But now she gets to use everything she learned to help other firm owners prepare for their own exits, whether they actually retire or, like her, discover they're not quite done yet. This episode is for firm owners wondering when to start preparing for an exit, leaders trying to figure out how to let go without losing control, anyone considering a move to a remote or cloud-based accounting practice, and sellers who think their practice isn't "perfect enough" to take to market yet.Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to Barbara Agerton01:34 Preparing for the Sale of a CPA Practice03:39 Transitioning to a Cloud-Based Accounting Practice07:00 Client Experience During a CPA Firm Transition08:50 Deciding to Sell Your CPA Firm: Personal Motivations09:58 Emotional Challenges of Selling a Tax Practice11:01 The Importance of Team Dynamics13:30 Preparing Your Team for a Sale16:03 Reflections on Timing and Selling any bookkeeping, CPA, or CAS practice18:30 Book Recommendations and Closing ThoughtsBook Recommendation:Unreasonable Hospitality

How do you balance a high-performance dental career with being an effective parent? What strategies help you stay sane amidst the organized chaos of family life? How can showing up as your best self benefit both your patients and your children? Dr. Shandy Vijayan and Dr. Raabiha Maan join Jaz in this nonclinical episode to share their experiences of parenthood in dentistry. From the unique perspectives of two dentist-moms and the dad viewpoint, they discuss the real-life challenges of raising children while maintaining personal well-being. They also share practical tips, book recommendations, and actionable strategies for self-care and emotional regulation—helping you create a balanced family life while thriving in your career. During the episode, Jaz also mentions KARRI — a fun, screen-free voice messenger that helps kids stay safely connected with parents and friends, without social media or internet access. Reduce clinical load early to focus on children; career focus increases after ~12 yrs. Prioritize time with kids over tasks; coordinated parenting schedules help. House help significantly reduces stress, frees energy for quality interactions. Support networks (family, in-laws, professional communities) are essential. Grandparents: allow flexibility; avoid micromanaging childcare. Returning to work: stress, costs (GDC, indemnity, childcare), skill gaps, guilt. Dentistry = high-performance + emotional labor; manage energy carefully. Quick mental reset between work/home recommended; part-time can boost longevity. Parent happiness + strong parental relationship = major factor in kids' emotional regulation. Run family like a small business: systems, schedules, clear roles. Self-regulation, EQ, and self-care benefit family, patients, and professional life.
