Join me as I discuss this very important topic: your complete lack of accountability or responsibility for how other people respond to your concussion experience. So often, people suffering with Post Concussion Syndrome feel the added emotional burden of trying to manage other people's feelings surrounding their concussion. This is not only unnecessary, but it wastes valuable energy and emotional resources on something that is impossible to control. I will tell you the Secret To The Universe (ie: "The Model"), that explains how and why it's true that you're not responsible for others' reactions to your injury. Dr. Jay Stevens, Medical Director of Extivita, returns to discuss the critical importance of treating head injuries, including concussions, with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). Dr. Stevens emphasizes that we are currently facing an epidemic of head trauma, encompassing various conditions such as concussion, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), minimal or mild TBI (mTBI), Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS), and Persistent Post-Concussion Syndrome (PPCS).He elaborates on the subtle differences in terminology and definitions for these conditions but underscores that they all fall under the category of head trauma. Dr. Stevens highlights that even Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be seen as a form of PPCS because it represents persistent brain injury, though not initially labeled as a concussion.Dr. Stevens explains the significance of distinguishing between acute, sub-acute, chronic, and persistent head trauma in terms of diagnosis and treatment. Regardless of the type or severity of the head injury, he advocates for immediate HBOT treatment, as it provides benefits for all head trauma cases.Beyond professional athletes and military personnel, Dr. Stevens emphasizes the importance of recognizing the benefits of HBOT for adolescent athletes. In Wake County, North Carolina, where his practice is located, there are thousands of reported concussions each year. Dr. Stevens shares stories of high school students who have suffered from lingering effects after concussions and believes that access to HBOT facilities like Extivita-RTP would have significantly improved their outcomes. The discussion also touches on the connection between the gut (often referred to as the second brain) and the brain. Dr. Stevens and the host, Ed di Girolamo, highlight the interplay between gut health and mental well-being, stressing that the health of both is integral to overall quality of life.Dr. Stevens and di Girolamo firmly assert that HBOT is one of the most effective treatments for head trauma relief. They emphasize that HBOT is a natural and transformative therapy that can help individuals, including adolescents, recover from head injuries, potentially preventing the onset of post-concussion syndrome. Immediate HBOT treatment in the acute concussion stage provides the brain with the necessary oxygen for healing and can significantly improve the individual's quality of life.
Today's Episode Dr. Raj talks with Dr. Khankhanian about how Chiropractic and Neurology have intertwined in his medical practice, the unique challenges that come up with each phenotype of concussion, and how holistic and Western medicine coexist in his own practice to find non-traditional ways of treating Post-Concussion Syndrome. Today's Guest Dr. Joseph Khankhanian was born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California, where he completed and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology/BioEthics from American Jewish University. Dr. Khankhanian has always been passionate about natural medicine and holistic approaches to managing health. This is why he decided to continue his education and complete his graduate studies at Life Chiropractic College West in the San Francisco Bay Area. There, he received his Doctorate in Chiropractic and decided to continue his postdoctoral studies at the Carrick Institute. He further specialized in Clinical Neuroscience and received his Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board (DACNB). He has taken over 400 hours of coursework on neurological rehabilitation and Functional Medicine/Nutrition, and is currently in pursuit of a Fellowship in Clinical Neurochemistry and Nutrition (FABNN). With his extensive doctorate and post-doctorate training, Dr. Khankhanian has helped many patients return to or find their optimal selves without drugs or surgery. He has worked through many challenging cases and has achieved remarkable results with his patients. He specializes in Traumatic Brain Injury, Migraines & Headaches, Dizziness & Vertigo, Developmental Disorders, Chronic Pain, and Autoimmune & Metabolic Illnesses. As a "Root Cause" clinician, his only goal is to help his patients find the source of their issues and to fix it permanently. Every patient is unique, and by using the latest research-grade technology, he is able to create a care plan that is tailored to each patient. Dr. Al CobbDr. Al Cobb talks about growing up as the youngest of 5 children in Knoxville, Tennessee. His passions were sports and Christian ministry. He played quarterback in College and acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the Virginia Military Institute. After graduating from Virginia Military Institute, he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to be on staff with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Christian Ministry was and still is his passion. His career in ministry came to a halt after he had a panic attack, and it spiraled very quickly into depression, anxiety, and what most people will call depersonalization or disassociative type of tendencies. This led to a journey of seeking solutions for healing, including nutrition, counseling and, eventually, chiropractic. At Life University in Atlanta, Dr. Cobb decided to learn as many chiropractic techniques as possible and took a lot of seminars, including a Blair Primary Seminar taught by Dr. Gordon Elder of the Blair Chiropractic Clinic. After the seminar, Al Cobb and Watson Fondren started the Blair Club at Life University, which is still growing and thriving.Dr. Cobb says: “ Essentially everybody is as different on the inside as we are on the outside, and even the left and the right are not the same. This is what Dr. Elder was explaining. Then the brilliant mind that Dr. Blair had to be able to start to figure out how we take that concept and apply it to be as specific as possible. I loved the nature of the technique that, one, I could still use my hands, and two, that I could be gentle and specific. It was very congruent with my values because I don't like to see people for the rest of my life. I don't think that there are different opinions on this, but if I needed to adjust you for the rest of my life, am I doing a good job?Dr. Cobb's advice for starting to heal: You have to accept your brokenness.but realize that help is available, and then tell someone and seek help.Dr. Cobb practices the Blair Upper Cervical Technique serving the Communities of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico in Lubbock, TX at the Blair Chiropractic Clinic. To contact Dr. Al Cobb:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/al.cobb.35Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/alcobb51/?hl=enE-mail: drcobb@blairclinic.com To contact Ruth, go to https://www.blairclinic.comruth@blairclinic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/rutelin

In this episode, we will explain Whiplash, Concussion, and Post Concussion Syndrome! Symptoms that may come with post-concussion syndrome - are mental fatigue, brain fog, migraine, headaches, dizziness, vertigo, blurred vision, and the list goes on and on and on. When the head gets banged around, the soft tissue that connects the head to the rest of your spine can get stretched, damaged, torn, sprained, or strained. Now we have this kink, this twist, this misalignment at the base of the skull. A misalignment in the neck can narrow the space where your brain is communicating with your body. Alexis was experiencing post-concussion syndrome after an ATV accident she was involved with. Prior to getting care, she would feel the left side of her face and the left side of her arm starting to get numb. She also felt severe migraines and neuralgia pain throughout her face. She would always be lightheaded and could not even perform simple household chores like doing the laundry or washing the dishes. It has also affected her work; she would just feel pain throughout the day. It greatly affected her daily life; she could not do things she loved to do. The first couple of appointments at Revive Upper Cervical was very beneficial for Alexis. She has been under Upper Cervical Care for 9 months now and life has drastically improved for her. She is able to move now and has a lot of energy to do her daily tasks. She's very grateful and happy with the care she received at Revive Upper Cervical. Fred Rutman, aka “Repeatedly Dead Fred” was a marketer/consultant and then went into academia as a college professor. He taught MBA, Marketing and Finance for a number of years. After acquiring his MBA, his weight really ballooned, up to 340 pounds. He did all the CICO methods, tried a bariatric doctor (no surgery) and exercised his butt off. He eventually got down to about 280, where he plateaued. Then, the summer of 2009 came crashing down on him and forced him into permanent medical leave. His heart was stopping and was clinically dead dozens of times. Each time his heart stopped, he collapsed and hit his head, sustaining multiple concussions. In 2018, he learned about intermittent fasting and life hasn't been the same for Fred since. He attributes the large majority of his recovery to the healing powers of IF. He reversed T2 diabetes and some of its related issues, and is no longer asthmatic. His sleep apnea even went away. There is still some perpetual anxiety, PTSD and Post-Concussion Syndrome but it gets better every day. A concussion is a form of traumatic brain injury. When you get one, the initial response would be to check the brain. Unfortunately, some people still struggle with blurred vision, dizziness, headaches, tremors, and knee pain. If this is familiar to you, you may have post-concussion syndrome caused by accumulated small blows on your head. The solution you might be looking for is to go down from your brain to your neck. In this episode, Dr. Jeff Scott joins Dr. Kevin Pecca to tell us all about that. He takes us through the ins and outs of post-concussion syndrome and how the injury can be from a misalignment in the upper neck and not the brain. He also lists some neurological symptoms and offers solutions to fix them in upper cervical care. It is rare to hear two racecar drivers, stripped of the machismo attitude that comes from being a fierce competitor, talk about their most vulnerable moments. Former NASCAR driver and television analyst Ricky Craven sits down with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mike Davis for one of the most honest conversations between racers you will ever hear. From broken relationships, near tragic crashes, concussions to depression, it's a conversation that sheds light on parts of racing that are not often discussed. Craven cut his teeth on the Short Tracks of New England, following in his father's footsteps as a racer. The introduction to auto racing, as we learn, is one of the only lessons his father offered the young Maine racer. From Chargers. ACT Tour Late Models to the highly competitive Busch North Series, Craven's stock was rising. When opportunity came knocking, Craven jumped on it. His move south, into NASCAR's upper ranks, didn't come without challenges and valuable lessons. Some of those lessons, came from an unexpected source, the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. Craven's ascension into the elite NASCAR Cup Series came with some early success. In 1996, he was sixth in the standings when the green flag dropped at the massive Talladega Superspeedway. But it was a red flag at lap 129, caused by a savage crash that saw Craven airborne into the catchfence and flying over five cars, that started his struggles mentally and physically. Craven broke his back in the wreck, but came back to the seat right away. A year later, Craven landed his dream job piloting the Budweiser No. 25 Cup car for one of the best teams in the sport, Hendrick Motorsports. That dream, quickly became a nightmare, as a series of bad accidents led to a serious head injury when Craven crashed during practice at Texas Motor Speedway. Helicoptered to a hospital, the severity of his injuries kept him from the cherished seat he had earned. Eventually, Ricky returned. He fought through the symptoms that lingered after the crash. About a year later, Craven had to take himself out of the racecar, after being diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome. He opens up about how he was feeling and what he was going through at the time. As if a challenging upbringing, a wildly competitive sport, and concussion issues weren't enough, Craven was also dealing with depression. It wasn't until later in life, that the charismatic New Englander figured out, with the help of friend Dale Jr. and his doctor Mickey Collins, what his "true north" was. Craven shares the experiences battling depression and how he finds the inner-peace to make it through. Dale Jr. and Ricky share the commonality of going through serious head trauma. They share their viewpoints on a sport where it was once taboo to admit you are hurt and how it affected their careers and lives. It's a polarizing discussion that you don't want to miss. OPEN SEGMENT During our Open Segment Dale Jr. and Mike talk about the controversial finish at the Circuit of the America's (COTA) and what people should expect out of the young and aggressive Ross Chastain in the future. Dale Jr. also expresses his distain for "Track Limits" in NASCAR. They discuss Denny Hamlin's tweet an the public response to on-track incidents. Dale Jr. explains Reaction vs Reputation. ASKJR Presented by Xfinity Hannah Newhouse hits Dale Jr. with some interesting questions from our fans and we learn a lot from the answers. Dale Jr. gives us his plan for prepping for his line NASCAR Xfinity Series race of 2022. What does Dale Jr. and Mike Davis think of Will Smith's slap heard around the world? Was it for real? Dale wants a fireball. The candy! Le Mans or No Lemans? Dale also weighs in on Hendrick Motorsports' participation How the upper ranks of the sport can help Short Track Racing Thoughts on the Foo Fighters after the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins Learn more about your ad choices.
