One of best albums ever released from the biggest selling band in the world. We delve into Abbey Road and what makes this such a phenomenal album. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Wolf spent 3+ years just a stone's throw from Abbey Road in NW London, just six blocks from the studio that goes by the same name. The studio was EMI for decades until it was renamed in the 1970s after the final album recorded by The Beatles (Let It Be was released later but those sessions took place earlier and at different studios). After throwing out exotic locales for the album cover, George Harrison suggested they walk across the street and the most iconic album cover was born. The boys may not be the world's biggest Beatles fans but to love rock n roll, one must have an appreciation for them. The Wolf remained largely unfamiliar with Abbey Road until he realized he had to pick up a copy if he was going to walk down that street everyday for 3 years. As it turns 55, the boys go track x track, discuss the famous cover and dive into the state of The Beatles in their final days. Paul was trying to manage the band since the death of Brian Epstein and still deliver the goods in the studio. John was getting deeper into heroin and Yoko Ono. George was growing up and saving some of his best for his debut solo album. And Ringo just wanted the boys to stop fighting in meetings all the time. But George brought the goods with Something and Here Comes The Sun. John offered up Come Together and the pre-heavy metal I Want You (She's So Heavy). Paul put together some of his and John's best new melodies for the epic medley on the 2nd side. And dear Ringo gave us Octopus's Garden, a place he'd rather be than haggling with the band all the time. We dive deep into each song, where each member of the band was at the time and where they were going. This may not be our favorite album but it is an important document of a band that had had enough but could still bring the most amazing harmonies to life. The Beatles were chaffed from some seriously tense recording sessions whilst making the "white" album, and then again from the well-documented Get Back era, but, even still, after a break they decided to give it one more go together in the summer of 1969. We go through every song on this momentous album over the course of 2 episodes. This week while covering Side 1 the boys discuss Timothy Leary, the George Martin effect on George Harrison compositions, and the financial situation of Beatles Inc. at the time. The Beatles were at the height of their popularity, and surprisingly near the end of their time as a group when they recorded Abbey Road, their eleventh studio album. In fact, it would be the last album the group started recording, as Let it Be was mostly recorded prior to the Abbey Road sessions even though it wasn't finished until after Abbey Road was released. John, Paul, George, and Ringo were iconic by this time, though all were still under 30 years of age. The recording of this album was more harmonious than the Get Back/Let It Be sessions earlier in the same year, but they were not free of conflict. John Lennon did not perform on several tracks, and would have quietly left the group prior to the album's release. The album is a bit of a throwback to a previous style of production, prior to the conflict-ridden processes that had typified Get Back and The White Album. Producer George Martin agreed to this, but on the condition that all group members - especially John Lennon - let him produce the record as the earlier records were produced, and that everyone maintain discipline for the process. The result actually faced mixed reviews at the time of its release, though with the passage of time it has attained its present status as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The cover is the iconic picture of the band members walking across a zebra crossing outside Abbey Road Studios.Special guest and friend of the show Eric Von Haessler from “The Von Haessler Doctrine” on WSB Radio joins us to present this album - one of his all-time favorites. Eric recommends the version from the 1987 CD, as newer versions have been remixed to the detriment of the album. Come TogetherThe opening track is a bit of a continuation of the earlier song “Let's Get It Together” which John Lennon wrote for Timothy Leary when he was campaigning for the California gubernatorial race against Ronald Reagan. The song's lyrics are quite surrealistic, but the title may represent the desire of the band to get together in harmony for the sake of the music. Here Comes the SunGeorge Harrison wrote this incredibly positive song in Eric Clapton's garden during a break from business meetings for the Beatles. John Lennon was recovering from a car accident when the track was recorded, and did not perform on the track. Believe it or not, this was not released as a single from the album!Maxwell's Silver HammerPaul McCartney wrote this song after traveling to India in 1968 and originally wanted to record it for the White Album, but the group thought it was “too complicated” and pushed it off until this album. McCartney further annoyed the others by insisting on a perfect performance of the work. The multiple takes were, in the words of George Harrison, “a real drag.”I Want You (She's So Heavy)Lennon wrote this song about his relationship with Yoko Ono. The finished product is a combination of two different recording attempts, one made just after the Get Back sessions with Billy Preston, and the other made during the Abbey Road sessions. The phrase “heavy” at the time meant deep or significant, and in no way related to Ono's weight! **We opted to cover 5 Staff Picks and did not feature an Entertainment Track on this podcast** STAFF PICKS:Me by Otis Rush Wayne starts this week's staff picks with a Chicago blues artist that got his start in the early 50's. This song is about a guy who attributes his position on hard work and self-determination. “I paid my own way, gave stuff for free 'cause the only true friend I ever had was me.” Duane Allman is on guitar on this track.Oh What a Night by the DellsBruce's staff pick is a remake of a number 4 R&B hit from 1956, also by The Dells. This updated version went to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. A number of covers of this song have been done through the years, including by Sly Stallone and the Biscaynes, Tracey Ullman, Lester Bowie, Nick Kaman, and the Moonlighters.Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond This one is not a deep cut by any stretch of the imagination. Rob features a sing-a-long song for many sports teams, including the Carolina Panthers, Iowa State, the University of Pittsburgh, and of course the Boston Red Sox. The inspiration for the name was Caroline Kennedy, the last surviving child of President John Kennedy, though Diamond wrote it for his wife, Marsha. He felt like a three-syllable name would fit the song better.Green River by Creedence Clearwater RevivalLynch brings us some swamp rock from CCR. Creedence Clearwater Revival had 14 top 10 hits within a 17-month period. Although the group is from California, the song was written about the Green River near New Orleans and has a Louisiana feel. Despite their success, acrimony within the group would lead to a breakup in 1972.Sugar, Sugar by The ArchiesEric Von Haessler finishes off the staff picks with a very different song from the Beatles. The Archies were a fictional band based on the TV show and comic strip of the same name. The music was recorded by session musicians. A number of these “bubble gum pop” songs were successful, with a lighthearted, positive touch. Jeff Barry and Andy Kim wrote this, and it hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Baby, I Love You by Otis RushWe exit the podcast by double-dipping on an instrumental blues number by Otis Rush.
Album Suggestions of the Week: Marvin Gaye “I Want You”. The Beatles “Abbey Road”. The RedCupTv crew talk about if they would go back to the 90s at their current age. They try to compare a rap relationship to Jordan and Kobe. Talk about many more topics so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

The Beatles "Abbey Road"

Hello, people of earth! This week we are talking about the final album The Beatles ever made. Abbey Road! To help us out we have a special guest and self not proclaimed expert EMMERSON! He helps us break down what makes this album so special and how it can be view through the lens of The Beatles breaking up. We also explore the ins and outs of the PAUL IS DEAD conspiracy theory and talk the world of live music in 2020. We discuss the dangers of wearing headphones while listening to the podcast and we even break down the best song by everyone's favorite and most thought of instrument. Hey, if it is not Baroque, don't fix it! Finally, we weigh in on the medley on the second side of the album. Most beautiful thing in the world or a bunch of bits and bobs? And where does Her Majesty belong anyway? And what was Aaron doing when his parents left the house? (The answer probably won't surprise you.) Mostly this episode is an excuse for everyone to say mean things about Rob. He is a good-natured guy and loves to have some fun now and then, but people shouldn't be so mean to him! Oh well, most of the hosts don't read this anyway. If you want to hear less about Aaron not owning a microwave or maybe you have something to say about it, call the BECK LINE at 802 277 2325 (BECK) and leave us a message to play on the podcast. Melina Palmer is the host of The Brainy Business podcast and she has dedicated her career to seeking answers to these questions for herself and her clients. Melina uses behavioral economics to help everyone from global corporations to entrepreneurs understand the psychology of why people buy, unlocking the secrets of small changes that make a big difference via her podcast, public speaking, and column on Inc.com. The result is messaging, branding, advertisements, pricing and products that are more “brain-friendly” (meaning more leads, conversions, and revenue). Our conversation with Melina covered the anchoring effect and what a powerful tool it can be for both sellers and buyers alike. We also chatted about her John Mayer playlist on Pandora and some of the things she’s doing to make the world a better place through the education of behavioral economics and neuroscience.

Celebrating its 50th, Aaron discusses the Beatles' 1969 classic album Abbey Road.
2019 marks 50 years since the Beatles created and released “Abbey Road” - the last album they properly recorded together before disbanding. Considered by many to be the band’s best, the iconic album’s influence on pop culture can be felt even decades after its release… So which songs off the album would you say are John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr’s best? That’s what Matt Gamba and Zach Shaw try determine in this episode of Epic Footnote Productions’ “If You Have to Pick 3 … ,” a podcast where we have to pick their top three choices on any given topic (bands, albums, songs, genres, whatever!). After they each share their personal favorites, they then have to come to an agreement on a final top 3.

1996 was the summer of Woodstock, the moon landing, the Beatles’ Abbey Road and a gathering of beat poets at the Royal Albert Hall. Author and New Generation Thinker Preti Taneja is joined by poets Rachael Allen and Jacob Polley to take an un-nostalgic look at how the Sixties appear now. We'll also hear them perform some of their own poetry. The discussion is inspired by the programme for the Proms concert for Prom 11 The Sound of a Summer. For 30 days following the concert you can hear the music here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00070rj or find it on the Proms or BBC Radio 3 website. Producer: Zahid Warley.

The Beatles’ Abbey Road was an instant worldwide hit and would go on to become a template for modern popular music...but which side the listener prefers is a musical inkblot test, sharply dividing listeners even amongst the Beatles themselves. Side A’s straightforward compilation of tracks features benchmarks for each member of the band and their respective songwriting abilities, but what George Martin and Paul McCartney cooked up for side B was truly groundbreaking in its innovation and execution. Like Brian Wilson’s fabled (and at the time unreleased) Smile LP from a few years prior, Martin and McCartney attempted a long suite of songs which, like a classical symphony, would include various movements, recurring themes and integrated melodies. George Harrison’s optimistic Here Comes The Sun opens the side, followed by the three-part harmony dripping off of Lennon’s beautiful Because. From there we launch into You Never Give Me Your Money (a snarky little swipe at Apple business woes) into Sun King, which by the nature of its lyric loosely connects to Harrison’s opening track. Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window are next, proving John Lennon offered quite a hefty contribution to the album side he would later pass off as “junk” in interviews following the band’s split. Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End bring the side to its dramatic culmination, somewhat echoing the musical climax that ended Sgt. Pepper. And the comparison’s to Sgt. Pepper don’t stop there - Abbey Road could easily be considered Pepper’s follow-up, as the prominence of George Martin and its slick, purposeful production link those two LPs together far more than the erratic (but masterful in its own way) self-titled double album the year prior. No matter which side you prefer, Abbey Road was yet another triumph by the Beatles, who inched closer and closer to disintegration with each passing day... Celebrating 49 years of the MASTERPIECE "Abbey Road". Definitely one of the Beatles' greatest pieces of work. I'm in love with George Harrison's "Something" - especially the famous guitar solo. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

Sida A handlar om mörker, cancer.

found a cool clip on YouTube from the Beatles Abbey Road album. It is the 16 minute medley that closes the album but it's only the vocals. It's fascinating to listen to familiar vocals in a new way. Here's a link to the YouTube clip... Abbey Road vocals. The vocals for "The Sun King" caught my attention and I thought they'd make a nice start to a new Sunday morning mix. I couldn't resist messing with the track a little bit so I slowed it down and mixed part of that slowed down track under the normal one I like the way the sowed track fills the space between vocals. Then I brought the slow track up full to finish off The Sun King. It's really kind of amazing how beautiful the track still sounds even when slowed way down. As I was adding tracks to the mix I stumbled upon the Sun Kil Moon song "Sunshine in Chicago" and it hit me that the mix should revolve around the sun. So every song on the tracklist has "sun" in the title. I love using a keyword to narrow a musical search because it always turns up cuts I had completely forgotten about. In this case I was very excited to have dug up "Eternity's Sunrise" from the "Children of Men" score. I'm pretty happy with how this "sunny" mix turned out. Enjoy.
