Join Joe & Pete as they discover precisely what happens to stowaways on this ship. How fares the new design of the Cybermen? Why is Eric Saward so out of vogue these days? And is Beryl Reid as pissed as the boys recording?

In this week’s episode of Where the hell is Beryl Reid?, a group of five humans facing imminent catastrophe band together to talk nonsense about the latest episode of their favourite TV show. The Cybermen make their traditional end-of-series appearance, of course, and so there’s an outrageous amount of stomping involved, as usual. You can ... Read more
In this episode, I talk about episode three of the 1982 miniseries adaptation of Smiley's People. I talk about Bernard Hepton, fake statues, and the 17 minutes that changed it all for Beryl Reid. Ask Connie's partner Hillary for a cup of tea and give it a listen. You don't buy Degas from Signor Benati, you follow me? This is the thirty-ninth episode of Thrill is Gone: A podcast about thrillers. This episode marks another episode in the series Tinker, Tailor, Podcast, Spy, where I read all of LeCarre's work from Call for the Dead all the way to Agent Running in the Field. I am also going to be checking out the movies and radio dramas along the way.
We start 2020 with an ending. Loathe him or hate him, Adric has been a big part (prat?) of 80s Who but all things must pass, however indigestible. Yes, this is Earthshock, which packed a couple of major bombshells back in the day (not counting Beryl Reid). It’s a tale of pointless deaths, some equally pointless characters and gender fluid troopers (many of them genuinely fluid by the time the murderous mime act has finished with them). The Doctor promotes fine dining, Tegan packs heat, Nyssa plays house and Adric ploughs into the Diplodocidae. Meanwhile, it’s all bonuses and bollockings from Beryl and her long-suffering lackey can’t even sell out his own planet properly. Luckily Scott musters more machismo in his moustache than in Ringway’s whole body but cringing Kyle goes from gung-ho to agoraphobic at the drop of a boiler suit. So were Jim and Martin wildly cheering or weeping inconsolably by the end of it all? Listen to find out. Also available on Spotify.
Get Up and Go is about a cat from the moon encroaching on Beryl Reid's love life. Aren't you glad you didn't remember it? EMAIL: ifyoulikewagonwheels@outlook.com TWITTER: @spreadthewhimsy FACEBOOK: facebook.com/whenwagonwheelswerebigger W4B theme composed by John Croudy.
This week, we hop aboard the SS Pentallian just in time for it to start plummeting into the heart of a blazing sun. And so while we wait for our inevitable incineration, we answer trivia questions about Bananarama, forget everyone’s names, throw shade on the Captain’s marriage, and spend far too much time crawling around the ship, gurning and gnashing our teeth. Fortunately, it’s all over in 42 minutes.

A new season of irreverent, political, subversive and downright rude viewpoints on Doctor Who (1963-1989). We're back and it's straight into the early Eighties with part four of our Cyberspecial! In the Time Space Visualiser we talk all things Earthshock... With guess the line, giveaways, moustaches, Beryl Reid and much, much more! TX: 16 April 2019. Features strong language and adult humour. Listener discretion is advised.
52 years and still going strong as a professional actor, David Alder is truly a legend of west end theatre. I met up with him in North London in February 2019 amongst so many great memories on his walls, and we talked growing up working alongside music hall and variety legends like Beryl Reid and Arthur Askey, talking romantic escapades with Anthony Newley to the antics he got up to in Les Miserables' original seasons in London, the joys of She Loves Me, Me and My Girl and Pirates of Penzance, as well as his views on working through the AIDS crisis of the late 1980’s. We also talk appearing in a Ken Loach film alongside Robert Carlyle, his many decades of pantomime, his one man show and sailors in Teignmouth, summer seasons in Bournemouth and how theatre keeps him young!Thankyou for all your feedback so far - please tell a friend and subscribe for free on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or Spotify. With thanks to Eitan Epstein Music/Audio Jungle (Theme Music), Stagey Pagey (Artwork) and Buzzsprout (Podcast Host). On this episode, Andrew Graves, Rich Johnson and Gabriele Zuccarini don ludicrous helmets and struggle into tight leather trousers in order to try and make sense of Don Sharp’s deeply confusing and frankly barmy, horror biker movie, Psychomania. Together they undertake a strange 70s road trip incorporating supermarkets, badly drawn stone circles, Beryl Reid and frogs. Expect desperately out of touch representations of youth culture, ridiculous suicide attempts and some seriously un-hip Hells Angels, in this archetypal low budget cult classic. So, get on the back of our anti-hero’s bike and hang on cos this journey’s about to get very messy. As unlikely gang member Chopped Meat once sang ‘to ride was more than living, the taking more than giving’ whatever the fuck that means.
This time around I explain the funding changes with Podbean, then the interesting stuff. I look at a 1942 American portmanteau film, TALES OF MANHATTAN with an enormous cast of stars and a very interesting concept. From there, to celebrate the legalisation of Same Sex Marriage in this brown, unpleasant land, I look at the 1970 adaptation of Joe Orton's 1964 play, Entertaining Mr. Sloane starring Beryl Reid, Harry Andrews and Peter McEnerey. Hello! We know some of you have been itching to hear the episode where we discuss Nu-Who's Beryl Reid... and here it is! In addition to that we discuss all the big Doctor Who news stories for the month of September and, of course, read your emails & have some fun along the way. Today's episode covers: CLASSIC WHO: Big Finish is creating a series of First Doctor adventures where David Bradley will take the lead. How does this sit with Dave, who rates the First Doctor as 'his' Doctor? What do Adam Lambert and Queen have to do with it and how do the guys feel about Big Finish in general at the present time and where its all going? NU-WHO: After they left Doctor Who, Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman both took on roles in Royal dramas, specifically, The Crown on Netflix and Victoria on ITV. Victoria's ratings have recently plunged. What's behind it all? NU-WHO: Bradley Walsh. A month on from last episode, the guys still don't know if he'll be Jodie Whittaker's companion, or at least have a part in the new series. NU-WHO: The 2017 Christmas Special synopsis has leaked in a peculiar manner... but nothing fans didn't already know, so the way it was yanked offline again was amusing. NU-WHO: According to 'Now We Are 600', Harriet Jones didn't die. Rob has a bit of a rant on this revelation pulling the rug on what everyone believed was an on-screen death. Dave ponders why people can't leave things alone. CLASSIC WHO: Dave's been on a personal mission this past month to watch a collection of 'lowly-regarded six parters' from the Classic Era. These include: The Seeds of Death, The Mutants, The Sensorites and The Time Monster. How did they hold up during this Classic Era bender? CLASSIC WHO: Rob, meanwhile, zipped through The Android Invasion recently, for the first time in 20 years or more. He gives a few thoughts on watching this less remembered story from an otherwise absolutely classic Season 13. CLASSIC WHO: Dave ponders what would have happened in Classic Era stories if the Doctor hadn't turned up. He comments on Masque of Mandragora, The Seeds of Doom, and City of Death, but can you think of more? Write in today! NU-WHO: Who is Nu-Who's Beryl Reid? More specifically, what are examples of stunt casting (bad) or celebrity casting (good), since the series returned in 2005? Dave and Rob bring examples of each, as well as thoughts from our listeners. Do you agree? Let us know what you think of what's covered in this feature for next ep's mailbag. FINALLY: Emails from Christopher Bryant and Mike Solko relating to our recent Buffy episode. Did they enjoy it? And Ezra Penny chimes in on the topic of episodes that are generally slated by fans but which he really enjoys. Dave also comments on it being launch season for US television, with particular comments on The Orville. Thanks everyone, as always, for listening. We greatly appreciate your ears, your emails and your tweets and, if you really want to make our day, why not leave us an iTunes review sometime? It really helps us get noticed. See you in October for both our monthly show where we'll be looking at the Peter Davison era of Doctor Who. EMAIL US – hello@theDWshow.net
Hello! For a month where we approached this episode thinking, "What on earth is there to talk about (aside from our monthly feature)?" a surprising amount dropped in the week before we recorded and we respond in kind. Today's episode – broadly – covers: NU-WHO: Bradley Walsh is strongly rumoured to be Jodie Whittaker's companion in Series 11. Who is he? What's he been in? How might this play out in terms of a young-looking Doctor with a much older companion? CLASSIC WHO: A new version of Shada is on the way. Rob can barely contain his boredom. Is it needed? How will it look? So many questions. NU-WHO: Brand-new commentary on Jodie Whittaker from Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies. Jodie's also been getting around some radio stations. NU-WHO: Rumours of Jenna Coleman appearing in the Christmas special remain just that for now - rumours. However a picture of the new Ben Jackson appears and pleases both Rob and Dave in terms of his likeness. CLASSIC WHO/NU-WHO: Red White and Who: The Story of Doctor Who in America was released earlier this week and Rob and Dave had an advance copy with many of the chapters in it. They talk about the book and US fandom. CLASSIC WHO: August 29 is the 30th Anniversary of Dave's first Doctor Who club meeting that he attended with his Dad, aged 7. Rob realises, on air, that 1987 was when he attended his first fan event, aged 12. CLASSIC WHO/NU-WHO: Rob gives a podcast shout-out to I'll Explain Later & Complete Menagerie. He also mentions Progtor Who recently having it's third birthday and notes that Who Wars (which is the father of today's Doctor Who Show), first went out on Sept 7 2014; almost three years, too. CLASSIC WHO: Dave's been watching the Hartnell classic, The Ark, and finds the message it sends being extremely relevant for today. NU-WHO: Rob calls for submissions to our "Nu-Who's Beryl Reid" episode, set for September 24. "Everyone talks about Classic Who and stunt casting... but who are the celebrities in Nu-Who that really made you sit up, both for good reasons and bad?!?" Get your submissions in ASAP. CLASSIC WHO/NU-WHO: Our main topic for this episode is Doctor Who stories that listeners (and us) either didn't get or just didn't enjoy as children, but which we really enjoy as adults. These are almost all classic era stories, but one Nu-Who bolter makes it through at the end. Features emails from Mark Smith and Jim Hall in addition to listener suggestions from: Jim Hall, The Polis Box, Mark Watts, Isaac Dakin, James Stoker, Ganesh Projoy, Jon Arnold, Brendan Jones, Brian Dobson, Paul Scoones, spankybackpack, John Hole, Dave Ringo, Dylan Rees, We Are Cult, David Lancaster, Hayden Gribble, Christopher Bryant, and The Ginger Luke. Thanks for your thoughts! FINALLY: The second half of our mega email from Jim Hall, discussing the Doctor Who Magazine comics in the era of Tom Baker's final season. Thanks everyone, as always, for listening. We greatly appreciate your ears, your emails and your tweets and, if you really want to make our day, why not leave us an iTunes review sometime? It really helps us get noticed on there. See you in September for both our monthly show and the first in a new series of 'Alternate Galaxies' episodes where, for our first episode, we'll put Buffy the Vampire Slayer under the spotlight and let you know why, as a Doctor Who fan, you might be interested in watching it (if you haven't watched it already). Roaring back from the grave, comes Psychomania! Mr Jim provides a commentary track for the cult Brit horror flick, directed by Hammer veteran Don Sharp, and starring George Sander, Nicky Henson and Beryl Reid. This movie tells the tale of a gang of motorcycling hoodlums who return to life to wreak havoc thanks to a pact with a toad! It's the only biker-zombie-magic-toad movie you need to see!
More so even than any of our previous efforts, this podcast is a clear cry for help. Two elderly men mentally unravelling and succumbing to the physical rigours of the passage of time in front of a telly programme they love. Send help immediately. Send biscuits. As a postscript, Lawrence googled the Grange Hill/Give Us A Clue theme tune conundrum. He didn't find a conclusive answer, but he did find a 1981 GUAC episode on YouTube featuring Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Sandra Dickinson and Beryl Reid. You could watch that instead of listening to this. That's what I'm off to do.
Here's a new podcast, hot from the microphone of Toby Hadoke, as he travels the country speaking to people associated with every one of the stories from the first 50 years of Doctor Who on TV...
Ride with the Living Dead! On today’s show Nic, Mary and I will talk about “Psychomania” from 1971 aka “The Death Wheelers” it’s a British horror and cult film. The film was directed by Don Sharp and stars George Sanders, Beryl Reid, Nicky Henson and Ann Michelle. Plus we have some great feedback. Toll Free […]
