Novemner 18, 2025: Today's episode breaks down seven of the most important stories shaping the future of work. We explore why AI adoption is stalling inside organizations—and why companies are turning to internal influencers to drive real behavior change. We look at the surge in "ghost job" postings that are distorting the labor market and frustrating job seekers, and we explore the surprising history of the 40-hour workweek and whether it still makes sense in the age of AI. Next, we dive into brand-new data from Glassdoor's Worklife Trends 2026 report, which reveals rising distrust in leadership, declining career visibility, and how early-career workers are reshaping expectations. We also unpack a Guardian story showing that criticism of Gen Z is nothing new—it's a historical pattern that repeats in every era of disruption. We then examine why Big Tech companies are cutting jobs despite record profits and record AI investment, and we close with an Inc. story about an "AI error" that turned out to be human error—a reminder that the biggest risks of automation come from governance, not algorithms. If you want to understand the signals, trends, and shifts reshaping the future of work, this episode connects all the dots. Future-ready organizations are built, not hoped for. This week's questions:1. I always train in the evening and struggle to eat afterwards. Should I just have a protein shake and go to bed or sacrifice sleep to get a big meal in?2. Been losing weight well for a few months there, but have sort of plateaued, probably because I've started half-assing things a bit to be honest. Anything I can do to get that motivation back?3. Do you recommend beetroot shots? For context, I do some running (10k/half-marathons), and play a bit of GAA during the summer.Performance Nutrition Coaching: https://conoroneillnutrition.com/nutritioncoachingInstagram: https://instagram.com/conoroneillnutrition

Launch Your Box Podcast with Sarah Williams | Start, Launch, and Grow Your Subscription Box
Every subscription box owner hits a wall. Growth slows down. The excitement you once felt starts to fade. You check your numbers and realize things have stalled. Stalling doesn't mean you've failed. It just means it's time for a reset. Most of the time, growth slows because you've either tapped out your current audience or haven't been visible enough lately. The good news? You don't have to overhaul everything. You just need to re-energize a few key areas to spark fresh momentum. In this quick Friday Fuel episode of the Launch Your Box Podcast, I'm walking you through how to restart your momentum by focusing on three key areas that move the needle: growing your email list, showing up intentionally on social media, and running short, smart marketing bursts between launches. Reset #1: Grow Your Email List (Again) Your email list is your highest-converting asset, and when growth stalls, chances are your list has stalled, too. Ask yourself: Am I actively growing my list this week? If not, start here. Try a giveaway, launch a new lead magnet, or add a pop-up to your site. Promote your opt-in more often than feels comfortable. Remember, most people haven't seen it yet! Reset #2: Grow Your Following with Intention People can't buy from you if they don't know you exist. Audit your last six social media posts. Do they speak directly to your ideal subscriber? If not, shift your focus to connection: Share behind-the-scenes peeks of product selection or packing days. Spotlight subscriber stories or testimonials. Create simple reels using B-roll and overlay text. Share content that reflects your box's niche or transformation. Engagement comes first. Conversion follows. Reset #3: Run Short-Burst Marketing Campaigns You don't need to wait for “launch week” to grow. Between launches, run small but mighty campaigns: 3-day waitlist push Flash freebie bonus Subscriber referral challenge Simple paid ad paired with a short funnel sequence. Think of these as mini-launches that keep your energy and your subscriber list growing all year long. Bonus Reset Tips If you're ready to dig deeper, try these quick wins: Audit your list: scrub cold leads and segment by subscribers, leads, and past customers. Update your website: make sure it's clear who your box is for and why they need it. Re-engage dormant leads: send a short, two-part reactivation sequence. Ask your audience: use Instagram polls or a quick quiz to find out what's holding them back from subscribing. Take Action Choose one of these resets and take action today. Whether it's creating a new lead magnet, sharing a behind-the-scenes post, or running a 3-day waitlist push, do something that moves you closer to your next subscriber. Join me for this episode of the Launch Your Box Podcast, where we'll hit the reset button together and get your subscriber growth moving again, one simple action at a time. On this episode Shiv interviews Rita Fiorentino, Co-Founder of Arc Capital Development, to unpack a battle-tested playbook for steering portfolio companies through economic downturns—especially when AI disruption, political volatility, and geopolitical shocks are compressing growth.Rita lays out a disciplined sequence that starts with risk assessment and financial hygiene, then moves to locking down customers, building an all-A-player team, and only then deploying AI for process efficiency and product innovation. She warns against the common trap of slapping “AI” on legacy products or slashing headcount too soon, and shares real-world examples of how companies that follow the right order emerge stronger. She also covers why this downturn is categorically different, how to educate boards and investors, and why skating to where the puck is going—not where it's been—is the ultimate survival edge.
The Federal Reserve lowered rates by another quarter point to a range of 3.75%–4%, citing a weakening labor market and persistent inflation. Halloween over Florence: THE MARKET OF GHOSTSSeverino lived in the bell tower on the hill — the one next to the ancient Basilica of San Miniato al Monte.Every evening, at sunset, he would lock the gate at the base of the entrance stairway and before climbing back up, he would pause to watch Florence color itself amber. And so he did today as well. The tourists had left. Time stopped and silence became sacred again.Through the rusted bars the city stood there motionless — perhaps since forever; with its red roofs, marble facades and the Arno flowing between its stones like a glittering silver ribbon.Domes and towers trembling with light, almost suspended in the air, as if everything and everyone were holding their breath waiting for twilight — and for the night that would cover it with shadows, stars and dreams. One more glance, then he turned on his transistor radio that he had found a few years ago and the notes of Duke Ellington's 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore' filled the autumn evening.Silence may be sacred for the monks, but for Severino music was more so. Seven, his raven, didn't need to be called and at the first notes launched himself from the cypresses of the cemetery above, circled in front of the imposing facade of the Basilica and suddenly glided down along the stairway, to land gently on his left shoulder."Hey Seven, had a good day?""Yes. Could have been worse — Let's settle for that."At which, Severino smiled, turned up the radio's volume and began climbing resolutely toward le Porte del Cielo, while Jazz music echoed among the ancient stones.Nine years ago, on this same day in the month of October, the Olivetan monks residing in the Abbey found a child on the steps of the Basilica. He was there, wrapped in fog, silent as the night, eyes curious as the wind, without name and without past. They called him Severino — I don't know why — and he grew up among prayers and silences. He played in ancient rooms and discovered his world, surrounded by books, tombs, art and mysteries never revealed. At night a raven and a black cat accompanied him, illuminated by the moon, in the Cimitero delle Porte Sante, wandering among imposing crypts and motionless statues that whispered memories and mysteries. But on Halloween nights the whispers transform into screams and endless laments. Secrets manifest themselves, legends become reality, and dreams disguised as nightmares knock on doors lit by candles. And that full moon night was precisely this night: October 31st — and remember, whether you believe in spirits or not, nothing changes: the ghosts will come. And Severino was up there, right there waiting for them to arrive. Leaning out the highest window of the bell tower, calm, looking at Florence from above. While Thelonious Monk's 'Round Midnight' played on his radio, he watched — tapping time with one foot and waited. At the second of the twelve strokes of the midnight bells, something began to happen. On the Arno formed a dense fog that pulsed with spectral green. It began to rise and slide slow but inexorable over the bridges like fingers of cold hands of impatient ghosts. It slid over the Ponte Vecchio and rolled through the streets of Oltrarno until reaching San Niccolò, where it climbed up the hill swallowing everything it found in its path. When it reached the gate of San Miniato, it slipped through the bars and climbed up the stairs until it covered, like a high luminous tide, the entire square in front of the church. It climbed up the marble facade and wrapped also the Cimitero delle Porte Sante, covering the entire hill in a cloak of mystery. Then slowly, as if by enchantment, the fog began to dissolve rising toward the sky and when the last cloud melted into the night air, the square was no longer empty.Small jack-o'-lanterns with flickering lights floated in the air smiling with teeth of fire. Black candles sprouted from nowhere, illuminating spectral stalls full of everything and nothing. Bats that seemed made of paper but were alive fluttered among the lights with wings of black velvet, while autumn leaves danced without wind, sparkling with gold and copper. Pumpkins of every shape filled the stands, some carved with funny faces, others covered with silver spiderwebs that shone like threads of moon. Witch hats swirled in the air like flying umbrellas rotating slow on themselves. Roasted chestnuts perfumed the air with cinnamon and mystery, while small dancing skeletons tinkled like ice bells. And finally in the Cimitero delle Porte Sante, the Portal opened. Like every Halloween, for centuries, spirits from all over the world congregated in Florence for their annual meeting. A spectral river of ghosts poured into the square, each heading toward their own stall, and each with their impossible merchandise to sell or trade. The spirits had arrived and Severino observed them from above. A carnival of other worlds, made of sounds, colors and unimaginable stories. The deserted square had transformed into the Market of Ghosts. Stalls kept materializing from nowhere, carved and glowing pumpkins told each other stories of Halloweens past, present and future laughing malicious among the perfumes of lost memories, past centuries, tomorrow's candles and fallen stardust. The sky above the Tuscan hills and above Florence was full of ghosts arriving from everywhere to search for the unfindable. But no human eye could see this spectacle. No one except Severino, who descended from the tower enchanted by that spectacle and immersed himself in the crowd pulsating with otherworldly life. Seven circled above him observing with attentive eyes and cawing a bit nervous. Some ghosts looked at him with curiosity and recognized him. Someone greeted him and many others whispered his name in forgotten languages."There he is," murmured a witch from Prague."The child of time," sighed a Norman knight."He's returned, I told you so." laughed a Caribbean pirate. But Severino paid them no attention because there were ghosts selling: dreams of sleeping dragons, laughter of northern gnomes, tears of mermaids in love, the last breath of dinosaurs, shadows of unicorns. And even fears from past Halloweens — two for the price of one, but only for tonight. The ghost of a pirate who died during a boarding gone not so well shouted: "Storm bottles! Lightning in jars!" A witch from Salem whispered: "Love potions that last three lifetimes…" A medieval knight showed swords that cut fear, A Chinese spirit waved kites that fly into the past. The spectral crowd grew and thickened, laughed and bargained, while Severino walked amazed and fascinated among the impossible stalls of the Halloween Market. Seven cawed restless from above and Eleven, the black cat with orange eyes, jumped from one tent to another not losing sight of a single movement of Severino and the hundreds of souls circling around him.A ghost monk from an era that never existed saw him and smiled at him from behind a stall full of ancient radios adorned with mysterious symbols. Severino approached, fascinated."How wonderful! Do they all work?""Oh yes, certainly" replied the monk. "These transmit on the waves of past, present, and future time. But you don't need to buy one."The other ghosts stopped. They ceased selling, buying and bartering. They looked at Severino with respect and listened to what the collector of frequencies told him."The transistor radio you already have is more special than you think. But to discover its true secrets, you'll have to search in the ancient crypts where everything began."And suddenly the first lights of dawn began to illuminate the sky behind San Miniato with pink. In rush and hurry the ghosts said goodbye flying away in the wind. "Until next Halloween!" They told each other crossing in the sky. The stalls vanished. Lanterns and candles went out. The Market of Ghosts dissolved like a dream.Severino found himself alone in the empty square, Seven on his shoulder and Eleven sitting on the low wallLooking at Florence illuminating itself in the day of All Saints. He observed his old radio with new eyes and from the ancient crypts of San Miniato, something seemed to call him. Global death rates from chronic diseases dropped in four out of five countries between 2010 and 2019, but the U.S. experienced the weakest improvement among wealthy nations Heart disease and stroke accounted for the largest share of progress worldwide, showing how treating circulatory problems saves lives Rising deaths from pancreatic and liver cancers, along with neuropsychiatric conditions, are slowing overall progress and leaving millions more at risk Everyday exposures like seed oils, plastics, and hormone-disrupting chemicals overload your cells, raising inflammation and driving disease You can lower your risk by removing seed oils, improving gut health, limiting EMF exposure, clearing toxins from your food and home, and supporting energy with sunlight, movement, sleep, and niacinamide
The podcast discusses the current state of AI adoption among Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and the challenges they face in delivering measurable results to clients. Despite significant investments in AI, many enterprises report no new revenue from these technologies, leading to a growing skepticism about their practical value. MSPs are now under pressure to bridge the gap between vendor promises and client realities, focusing on specific workflow use cases that can demonstrate tangible benefits. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding client workflows and integrating technology in a way that enhances human productivity rather than replacing it.Ryan Morris, a channel strategist, highlights the cyclical nature of technology adoption, comparing the current AI landscape to previous technology trends like the dot-com boom and cloud computing. He notes that while the tools for implementing AI have become more user-friendly, the challenge remains in effectively integrating these tools into existing business processes. The discussion also touches on the need for MSPs to evolve from traditional roles to become more strategic partners, guiding clients through the complexities of AI implementation. The podcast further explores the trend of vendor consolidation in the tech industry, particularly with Kaseya's acquisition of Inky. This move signals a shift towards integrated platforms, but Morris argues that the best-of-breed approach is still relevant, especially for MSPs who prioritize flexibility and risk management. He explains that while vendors may push for comprehensive solutions, MSPs are cautious about committing to a single vendor due to concerns about vendor lock-in and the need for reliable service delivery. Finally, the conversation addresses the changing landscape of market development funds (MDF) in the channel. Traditional MDF programs are viewed as outdated, with partners now seeking outcome-based funding and support for solution development. This shift reflects a broader desire for meaningful collaboration between vendors and partners, focusing on integrated campaigns that drive measurable results rather than simple marketing reimbursements. The podcast concludes with a call for a more strategic approach to channel development that prioritizes long-term partnerships and shared success.

HEADLINE: Russian War Economy Stalls as Oil Prices Decline and Sanctions Bite GUEST NAME: Michael Bernstam SUMMARY: Michael Bernstam reports that the Russian economy is struggling as global oil prices decline and sanctions increase transportation costs, leading to a $13 to $14 per barrel discount on Russian oil. The "military Keynesianism" economy is exhausted, resulting in staff cuts across industrial sectors. Forecasts indicate contraction in late 2025 and 2026, with the IMF lowering its growth projection for 2025 to 0.6%. Russia is avoiding sanctions by routing payments through neighbors like Kyrgyzstan, who have become major financial hubs. 1945

Send us a textA courtroom trembles, a forest goes quiet, and a Capitol locks its doors and somehow they all tell the same story about trust. We start with the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey and examine what happens when the Justice Department looks like an instrument of revenge rather than a referee. We weigh the evidence, the reported push from political appointees, and the practical stakes for congressional testimony, prosecutorial norms, and the fragile belief that law can still be blind. From there, we step into the Gombe forest to honor Jane Goodall her patient, ground-shifting discoveries and her stubborn, disciplined optimism that turned science into stewardship. Toolmaking chimps, mourning and conflict, kinship over dominion her life reminds us that hope works only when tied to action. Roots & Shoots, local projects, and the invitation to plant a tree or fund a habitat are not small gestures; they're how trust is rebuilt in the real world. Finally, we confront the ritual of government shutdowns: the history, the needless cost, and the predictable ending in compromise. We call out the politics that rewards defiance over governing and explain how normalized dysfunction corrodes civic faith. Along the way, we challenge the media's left–right reflex around mass violence and the algorithmic churn that turns tragedy into team sport, arguing for slower, clearer reporting and prevention-focused solutions. If you're tired of cynicism but hungry for clarity, this conversation offers a map: protect prosecutorial independence, practice transparent compromise, support conservation, and choose small, concrete acts over doomscrolling. Today's Headlines: Trump is sending troops to Portland to “protect” ICE facilities he claims are under Antifa siege, though Oregon's governor says there's no threat—just protests. This follows his new directive labeling Antifa a “domestic terrorist organization” (which isn't a real legal thing), with criteria for identifying extremists that sound like a laundry list of being vaguely left-wing. It's all feeding into DOJ efforts to investigate George Soros' Open Society Foundation. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned nearly 800 generals to Virginia for a rare “warrior ethos” pep talk. Managed service providers (MSPs) are experiencing significant growth driven by interest in artificial intelligence (AI), with 92% reporting an uptick in business. However, a concerning trend has emerged: only about half of these providers feel equipped to assist small and mid-sized businesses in adopting AI tools, a sharp decline from 90% the previous year. This growing readiness gap highlights the challenges MSPs face in meeting customer expectations as AI adoption accelerates. Experts emphasize the need for integrated security solutions to help navigate the complexities of AI.OpenAI's recent benchmarks reveal that a staggering 95% of enterprise AI projects fail, underscoring the difficulties companies encounter in justifying their AI investments. Despite advancements in AI models, their effectiveness remains inconsistent, particularly in handling complex, ongoing projects. The evaluation system introduced by OpenAI aims to bridge the gap between theoretical capabilities and real-world demands, indicating that while AI can perform tasks faster and cheaper than humans, it still struggles with contextual understanding and interaction. In the realm of digital content, Cloudflare has launched a feature allowing website owners to block Google's AI overview search product, addressing concerns from publishers about traffic losses due to AI-generated content. This move comes amid legal challenges faced by Google from publishers who argue that their content is being used without proper attribution. While Cloudflare's feature offers a potential solution, its effectiveness hinges on Google's compliance, raising questions about the future of content ownership in the age of AI.Regulatory pressures are also reshaping the landscape for major tech companies. Microsoft has been compelled to offer free extended security updates for Windows 10 in select European markets, responding to consumer advocacy for better support. Generative AI is significantly transforming technology jobs, particularly by automating repetitive tasks such as coding and data processing. A recent analysis by Indeed indicates that while many tech skills will evolve, less than 1% are likely to be fully replaced by AI. This shift is creating challenges for organizations, as employees struggle with the overwhelming number of AI tools available, leading to wasted hours and lost productivity. Companies are urged to streamline their operations by implementing unified platforms that can integrate AI effectively, reducing manual tasks and enhancing overall productivity. The issue of AI agent sprawl is highlighted, where organizations may manage numerous AI agents, resulting in chaos rather than transformation. Analysts are reportedly losing an average of 9.1 hours each week due to inefficient workflows, costing companies billions annually. Despite this, many executives mistakenly believe their teams are operating at peak productivity. The podcast emphasizes the need for organizations to measure productivity based on actual output and create operational visibility to unlock growth potential.Diversity in IT leadership is another pressing concern, as the representation of women in technology continues to decline. A recent report reveals that while the number of women in the ICT sector has increased, men still dominate management roles. The exit of thousands of women from tech roles each year is attributed to a lack of career progression and recognition, rather than personal responsibilities. This trend not only affects workplace culture but also has significant economic implications, with billions lost due to decreased productivity and recruitment challenges. Finally, Google is merging Android and Chrome OS to create a new operating system aimed at enhancing AI capabilities on personal computers. This development is expected to impact how IT manages devices, particularly in K-12 and small business markets. Providers are advised to prepare for this shift by developing training and support strategies for clients. The podcast concludes with a call to action for IT leaders to focus on practical solutions to modern challenges, including email security, while also addressing the critical need for diversity and inclusion within the tech industry.Four things to know today00:00 AI Isn't Killing Jobs—It's Killing Repetition.
