Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal's college basketball podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, the sports director at ABC6 and weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Providence's men are set to host Villanova in what feels like an NCAA Tournament at-large elimination game (3:25). The Friars and Wildcats are both desperate for an additional quality win or two to burnish their credentials. Brown will host four games this weekend -- two for the men, two for the women -- that could determine Ivy Madness berths (25:20). The Bears men would punch a ticket with two victories. Brown's women could take a major step forward even with a split.  Bryant's women have clinched an America East home quarterfinal date after a Thursday win over UMass Lowell (50:50). The Bulldogs are surging to the finish and continue a strong 2023-24 debut under Lynne-Ann Kokoski. The Bulldogs men have dropped three straight and missed a chance to earn one of the top to seeds in America East (61:30). Bryant will host its own quarterfinal next weekend before likely road trips in the next two rounds -- it's the hard way back to March Madness. Thanks as always for listening.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal's college basketball podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, the sports director at ABC6 and weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Providence pulled out a thriller over Georgetown in Ed Cooley's homecoming and fell at Connecticut (4:00). The Friars face a key weekend trip to Villanova as they reach the Big East midpoint. Bryant fell to Vermont in a clash atop America East and bounced back against UMBC (35:00). The Bulldogs remain among the league contenders but have work to do at Maine this weekend. URI snapped its four-game losing streak and surpassed its 2022-23 win total with a victory over La Salle (45:10). The Rams have a chance to be over .500 at the Atlantic 10 midpoint. Brown's men and women face opposite realities this weekend. The Bears men (52:15) are desperate and the Bears women (58:30) can afford to be greedy while battling Penn and Princeton. URI's women have won three straight and might finally be ready to sprint for the conference tournament (64:45). No league opponent would be comfortable facing the Rams at that event if they're firing on all cylinders. Providence's women made some history this week with Grace Efosa (71:15). She's the program's first league Player of the Week since February 2019, and the Friars have exceeded their conference win total from 2022-23. History repeating itself against UMBC wasn't good for the Bryant women (78:40). The Bulldogs lost on a last-second putback and missed a chance to pull even at .500 in America East play. Thanks as always for listening.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal's College Basketball Podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, the sports director at ABC6 and the weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Providence's men snapped a four-game losing streak with a rout of DePaul (2:00). The Friars can carry some good feelings into their bye week.  Brown's men evened their Ivy League record with a win at Harvard (18:00). The Bears hung on down the stretch while improving to 1-1 in conference. Bryant's men are preparing for a weekend trip to Albany (25:30). The Bulldogs are seeking a 4-0 start in America East. URI's men are in the midst of a tough-two game road swing (34:30). The Rams were blown out at St. Bonaventure and now go to Dayton -- a homecoming of sorts for Archie Miller. The Rams women grinded past Fordham and are gearing for a Sunday showdown with Saint Joseph's (49:20). They're seeking some sharpness against a fellow Atlantic 10 contender. The Friars women dropped a thriller to Georgetown this week (57:45). Providence fell in the final seconds and make a weekend trip to Butler. The Bears women suffered a first Ivy League defeat against Harvard (65:55). The Crimson offered a look at a conference tournament qualifier -- Brown has work to do while looking to reach that level. The Bulldogs women come off a bye and welcome red-hot Albany on Saturday (73:00). Bryant is 2-2 in America East and right in the thick of the race for a home game in the conference tournament. Thanks as always for listening.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal's College Basketball Podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. The University of Rhode Island men are red-hot -- four straight wins and a 3-0 start in the Atlantic 10. The Rams blitzed Massachusetts on Saturday in their latest victory (3:00). Providence's men are the opposite. The Friars are adrift, losing their fourth straight in Big East play when they fell to Xavier on Saturday (23:20). Bryant's men continue to show significant upside. The Bulldogs are 3-0 in America East after a solid road win at New Hampshire and have won five of six overall (36:30). Brown's women head into a Monday home tip looking for a 3-0 start in the Ivy League. The Bears blew out Dartmouth and dominated Yale for the first 35 minutes before hanging on in New Haven (50:00). Bryant's women are back to .500 in league play after a tense home victory against New Hampshire. The Bulldogs executed late against the Wildcats, finding a defensive stop and securing a key rebound (61:35). Thanks as always for listening.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal College Basketball Podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for The Journal. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, sports director at ABC6 and the weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Bryce Hopkins suffered a season-ending knee injury Wednesday night (3:30) and Providence's 2023-24 campaign now veers into the unknown (8:05). The Friars fell to Seton Hall and face an uncertain road that starts with a visit to Creighton. URI looks like a new team with David Green eligible and David Fuchs back from concussion protocol (21:15). The Rams rallied past Saint Joseph's in a Wednesday stunner and could be a factor in the Atlantic 10 moving forward. Saturday brings women's conference action across the state. URI (40:10) and Providence (50:05) will host St. Bonaventure and St. John's, respectively. More on the Rams and Friars here. Bryant's women host UMBC on Saturday after an opening America East loss at Albany (60:35). The Great Danes on paper figured to be a much tougher challenge than the Retrievers -- the Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back. Bryant's men begin America East play at UMBC on Saturday (65:35). The Bulldogs have survived a meatgrinder of a nonconference schedule and should be primed to make a run in the league. Brown's men lost a comfortable lead and fell to Vermont in their nonconference finale (70:05). The Bears need a fresh start in the Ivy League after a latest tough setback. Brown's women also jump into Ivy League play this weekend with a trip to Dartmouth (77:50). The Bears could be in line for a postseason berth after a strong trip through their nonconference schedule. Thanks as always for listening. Hope your 2024 is off to a great start.

I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, sports director at ABC6 and the weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Providence's men opened Big East play with a bang by rolling No. 6 Marquette (1:15). Should we reset expectations for the Friars men based on this grounding of the Golden Eagles? Bryant's men battled to a double-overtime win against Towson and continues its resilient nonconference run (25:25). The Bulldogs are back in home action on Friday. The University of Rhode Island men fell to Delaware, dropping their fourth straight (37:10). The Rams look to snap that string Thursday against New Hampshire. Bryant and Providence ran into tough foes on the women's side (49:20). The Bulldogs and Friars fell to Boston College and No. 10 Baylor, respectively. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, sports director at ABC6 and weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI-Providence. We touch on all eight local Division I teams here -- Rivalry Weekend is covered in a special edition. Brown-Bryant women (1:10) got us started Wednesday night, and it was the Bears getting it done late. University of Rhode Island women suffered a surprising late loss to Quinnipiac on Thursday (10:00). A look at the Rams and a couple early stumbles. Providence women went on the road and fell to Columbia, a power in a difficult Ivy League (17:30). The Lions are one of at least three teams with real NCAA Tournament aspirations there.  The Friars men cruised past Lehigh and Wagner coming off their Bahamas trip (21:40). Josh Oduro, Bryce Hopkins and Ticket Gaines have all flashed their offensive ability.  The URI men rallied for a statement win over Yale (27:40). The Rams are showing signs of real growth even without David Green, who will sit the 2023-24 season after having a waiver request denied by the NCAA. The Bulldogs men filled an open schedule date with Springfield and eased to a predictable win (38:20). More on Bryant and it's difficulty finding willing opponents -- including, in this case, Connecticut -- here. Brown's men salvaged the middle of three games during their Bahamas trip, but the Bears are searching for answers (48:00). There's still some time to salvage nonconference confidence, but it's growing short. Thanks as always to everyone tuning in.

The latest edition of the Providence Journal's college basketball podcast is here. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, sports director at ABC6 and the weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Lots of ground to cover entering this holiday week. Bryant's men made history with a win at No. 10 Florida Atlantic, the first over a ranked opponent in program history (5:00). The Bulldogs followed up with a Monday win over Howard. Providence's men enjoyed a 2-1 stretch against three power conference opponents (14:55). The Friars split two games in the Bahamas, falling to Kansas State and rebounding to beat Georgia. The University of Rhode Island men were swept in two games at Mohegan Sun (24:00). The Rams stepped up in class against Northwestern and Washington State, falling twice in front of a good portion of traveling fans. Brown's men built some confidence against Rhode Island College and played USC to the wire on the road (34:00). The Bears showed what they have the potential to be over 40 minutes on court with the Trojans. URI's women won at Brown before coming up just shy on the road against North Carolina State (43:00). The Rams looked like a different team than the one that lost at Maine.  Brown's women are headed on a road trip after falling at home to URI (51:15). The Bears split games with the Rams and Providence at home last week. Bryant's women sit at 3-1 entering three straight games away from home (55:15). The Bulldogs outlasted Central Connecticut State and will play at Merrimack and at Florida International.  Providence's women have dropped two straight after winning their first two games of the season (60:10). The Friars were clipped by Brown before falling at home to Boston College over the weekend.  Happy Thanksgiving to all. Hope it's a day filled with family, great food and a side of college basketball. Thanks as always for listening.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal College Basketball Podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined by Nick Coit, the sports director at ABC6 and weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Full week of topics in this one. We start with a coaching change -- Jared Grasso formally tendered his resignation with the Bryant men (2:50). The Bulldogs promoted Phil Martelli Jr. from acting head coach and signed him to a long-term contract (11:55). Brown's men are winless no more after taking care of Rhode Island College (22:20). The Bears lifted their spirits ahead of a weekend trip to USC. Providence's men are in the Bahamas and ready for a Friday night test against Kansas State (30:10). The Friars will face either Miami or Georgia in their second game of that event, and they're coming off an impressive home win against Wisconsin. The University of Rhode Island men will spend the weekend at Mohegan Sun (41:10). The Rams take on Northwestern and either Mississippi State or Washington State. They're 3-0 after another comfortable victory against Wagner. Brown and URI square off in the women's ranks on Friday night (51:40). The Bears host the Rams at Pizzitola Center, and each program is in a different mood. Brown has won two straight against Big East opponents -- including Providence on Wednesday -- while URI struggled in a surprising road loss at Maine. Bryant's women are home Friday night before hitting the road next week (62:10). The Bulldogs host Central Connecticut State sitting at 2-1, including an easy win at Stonehill.  Thanks as always for listening.

The latest Providence Journal college basketball podcast is here. Journal sports reporter Bill Koch is joined by Nick Coit, the sports director at ABC6 and the weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI-Providence. The opening week of action brought dominance from the Rhode Island men (2:35), a banner ceremony for the Rams women (10:30), Kim English's debut with the Providence men (19:10) and Erin Batth's first game in charge of the Friars women (29:45). We also saw a pair of thrillers -- the Brown men (36:20) played Colgate to the wire on the road and the Bryant men (43:10) fell to Manhattan in a nail-biter at home. The Bulldogs women (50:15) eased to a debut win for Lynne-Ann Kokoski and the Bears women (55:10) will look to regroup after a couple tough outings. Thanks as always for listening. More to come soon.

This is the second of three parts -- our women's preview in Rhode Island. We hit the four Division I teams here and follow with one more podcast this week -- our bold (or not so bold) predictions. Our men's preview went online Wednesday afternoon. The University of Rhode Island women (1:20) are favorites to repeat as Atlantic 10 champions and reach the NCAA Tournament. Brown (14:40) looks to continue its climb in the Ivy League after making progress in 2022-23. Providence (22:25) has a new coach in Erin Batth and looks to surprise in a tough Big East. Bryant (32:25) brings back an alum on the sidelines in Lynne-Ann Kokoski, who replaces retired Hall of Famer Mary Burke. And a bonus, thanks to Coit -- a nod to Rhode Island College (42:30) and hopes they can capture the same magic that led to a Division III Final Four run last season. We'll be in this space at least once a week until the nets are cut down in early April. Looking forward to the journey with all of you.
