After plying his trade in one of Britain's best restaurants, Darren Robertson (Three Blue Ducks) headed down under and found himself as part of the brigade of one of Australia's most influential restaurants – Tetsuya's. He rose the ranks to become head chef working alongside arguably the most incredible alumni of chefs a restaurant has ever produced, but he felt an urge to break the shackles of fine dining and explore produce and cook in a more relaxed, natural manner. It led to a partnership with a band of people who would go on to create one of the most iconic casual eateries that not only expanded to multiple locations, but triggered a movement that elevated everyday eats and brought us all closer to producers too.https://www.threeblueducks.comFollow Deep In The Weeds on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/deepintheweedspodcast/?hl=enFollow Huckhttps://www.instagram.com/huckstergram/Follow Rob Locke (Executive Producer)https://www.instagram.com/foodwinedine/LISTEN TO OUR OTHER FOOD PODCASTShttps://linktr.ee/DeepintheWeedsNetwork

There's not a single business in the world that Covid19 hasn't effected in some way, so for the next few episodes I'll be speaking to business owners who have had to pivot their business, rethink the way they operate and find innovative ways to keep their businesses going in some of the most challenging times we've ever seen. So to kick it off, I speak to Paul Dewhurst, Operations Manager at Three Blue Ducks, who have restaurants in Bronte, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Roseberry and now Melbourne too. They were forced to shut the doors to all their venues in March with almost no warning. But they pivoted quickly and a week later, the business branched into the fresh food and takeaway market, supplying gourmet produce boxes to Byron Bay locals and a paired-back take-away menu to Sydneysiders. I ask Paul about how they made the quick decision to pivot what Three Blue Ducks offered, why they won't compromise their company values for an easy buck, and how Covid19 has shown the importance of community and connection. Many of you on twitter said you would like to hear it and I’ve fallen behind in getting the other interviews edited (sound issues related to my old computer, may it RIP) since I’ve had to focus on finishing up the edits to my translation of Laruelle’s Introduction to Non-Marxism over the past few weeks.  In Laruelle translation related news, thank you to those who have donated for the Laruelle in Translation seminar series/funding my travel for some other interviews. We are about $70 short of our overall budget, so if you are able to throw $5 our way please consider donating via PayPal. Owing to a generous donation from JCRT and GAIN, I won’t be broadcasting the audio, but they will instead be hosting video of the seminars. I’ll still be using that time to interview folks for the show, though, and a link to the free video will be posted here for those who are interested.  The music featured in the show today comes from El Heath’s “A Cold Day In Spring” and Blue Ducks’ “Falling Asleep In Fhloston Paradise”. Both albums available—for free!—via Records on Ribs.

Sometimes you’re in your own country, your own home, and you know in your bones you don’t belong. That feeling pushes you to change something. This week we bring you four stories of people who don’t quite belong in the world where they live, and who take matters in their own hands to construct their own belonging. A very young girl finds a sense of belonging while running away from an angry mob. A student creates a bridge between the Jewish and Irish sides of her family. Seven gender-defying divas share what it means to belong to yourself. And a young man discovers how to prove you belong, when the numbers are against you. Host: Leslie Nguyen-Okwu Producers: Will Rogers and Natacha Ruck Featuring: Justine Beed, Carla Lewis, Eileen Williams, Josh Hoyt, Winona Azure, Raya Light, Macy Rodman, Peaches Christ, Alexis Blair Penney, Heklina, Sissy Spastik, Mathu Andersen, and Cher Noble. photo via flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ganesha_isis/4439563089 Music used during transitions: Welcome Wizard, Monk Turner, Johnny Ripper, Zachary Cale, Mighty Moon, & Ethan Schmid, Blue Ducks
