Epiphany, The House of Cards. Epiphany is defined as a moment of sudden revelation or insight. Today On Like it Matters Radio Mr. Black is going to go into the machinations of how we work as humans, to create our Belief system (BS). Everything we do, or do not do, is driven by a belief system. When we have a drastic change on a HIGH-LEVEL Belief, it changes those below it, causing a “house of cards” to fall. Dr. Dilts and the Logical Levels show us that from the psychological point of view there are 6 levels that human beings create beliefs at. The basic level is our ENVIRONMENT. We operate on that environment through our BEHAVIOR. Our behavior is guided by our mental maps and strategies which define our CAPABILIITES. These capabilities are organized by BELIEF SYSTEMS and VALUES. Beliefs are organized by IDENTITY. Our Identity derives its essential meaning from SPIRIT- “Why are we here?” Listeners will not only be Inspired, educated and motivated to act, but they will also realize the power of our BS and understanding how we create experience and set up our environment to make us more successful. This understanding, and this clarity will allow listeners to construct their Beliefs in a way that allow them to be all they desire to be! Be inspired, be moved and apply this powerful self-knowledge in a way that honors who you are and why you are here! It is the Way of the Warrior! On July 15, 1864, Captain James Fisk led ninety-seven wagons out of Fort Ridgley, Minnesota, bound for the gold fields of Montana. Fisk planned to avoid the most dangerous territory by following a shorter, unmapped and untried route. Unfortunately, he failed to consider the increased hostility on the part of indigenous tribes in the wake of the US-Dakota War. He was confident as the wagon train left Fort Rice. He thought a large force of soldiers under General Sully was traveling ahead of him, but eighty miles west of Fort Rice, Fisk learned that Sully veered north and the expedition was now protected by the small number of soldiers with the train.
As the son of a Naval pilot, Bucky Dilts moved around a lot growing. At one point his family was based in Hawaii where he learned to surf and play football, specifically punting. He'd kick a football (with his left foot) over anything high that he could find. Next came a move to Atlanta. Surfing wasn't an option, so Bucky went 100% into football during high school. He went on to punt for the University of Georgia as a walk-on. His reverse spin, directional punting and hang time became a problem for opponents. Despite his collegiate success, Bucky went undrafted in 1977 and while a number of teams offered him a spot in training camp, he went with the Broncos who had a lot of competition at the punting position. Fully confident, Bucky came to camp and won the position. His rookie season included a trip to the Super Bowl and a spot on the All-Rookie Team. He'd stay with Denver for another year before being traded to the then-Baltimore Colts. After a rough year with the Colts and pricing himself out of the market contract wise, Bucky was done with the NFL. After retirement, Bucky hit the business world and endured some personal setbacks and challenges with his family. Today he's helping people (and himself) become healthier versions of themselves.

"We had a bond. We were all one woman, trying to get ourselves together when we were lost... I believe that the person who got these girls out here was a person that they trusted."On 20 November 2006, two women were walking along a dirt access road in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, just outside of Atlantic City. The road - which ran parallel to the Black Horse Pike - stretched behind a handful of dingy motels known as havens for pimps, sex workers, dealers, and addicts. There, the two women stumbled upon a grisly sight: the body of a woman, just one of four that would be found dumped in that area. The four victims, all female, were still clothed but barefoot; their socks and shoes had been removed and were nowhere to be found. They were all laid facedown in several inches of water, and all were facing east, their bodies seemingly posed in a symbolic gesture from the killer...Part one of twoResearch, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3266604/advertisement

Extraordinary journeys of self-discovery often begin with a simple invitation. NARM practitioners encourage these explorations by asking clients to set an intention for the work ahead from the beginning. Stephen Gilligan, PhD., takes a similarly powerful approach. At the start of each visit, he warmly receives both the client and their trauma into the therapeutic space. Dr. Gilligan is a psychotherapist, author, workshop leader, and transformation specialist. His work focuses on the awakening of the soul, drawing parallels from other traditions where such explorations are essential to awakening the human spirit. Dr. Gilligan discusses his life's work, what he's learned about connection and fulfilling core needs, plus the creative paths that bring clients back into life and a happy future. About Stephen Gilligan, PhD.: Stephen Gilligan, Ph.D., is a psychologist who received his doctorate from Stanford University. Moving to an island in the Pacific Northwest is not easy. Moving intentionally, with a view of contributing to the community is even more difficult. But Sage Dilts and Nathan Hodges have done just that with their farm and bakery on Lopez Island, Washington. In this episode, Mark learns how Sage and Nathan met in grad school in the Bay Area, where Sage also developed her baking chops, how they found their way to Lopez Island and how the locals embraced their quest to make the best bread from the localist grains. Welcome back to another special episode of the Madam Athlete podcast! On the second Tuesday of the month, I take a deep dive into a career-related topic, and on today's episode I'm asking you if you're ready for change and sharing a specific framework to help you tease out where you might be getting stuck moving forward in whatever new direction you're aiming for. Here's the thing...Your brain doesn't actually like change. It wants to feel pleasure, avoid pain, and keep things easy (like stuff it already knows how to do).So change is hard!I'm talking about Dilts' Logical Levels of Change in today's episode which is a framework for personal development (and change), that can help you identify where you need to make in order to have the biggest impact on getting after your new goal. You can find the show notes and more resources at https://madamathlete.comAnd if you're interested in setting some new goals for yourself, click here to sign up for my free mini-course and challenge on how to set effective goals.Keep an eye out for new content or let us know what you'd like to see next by following us on social:Instagram: @theMadamAthleteFacebook: @MadamAthleteTwitter: @MadamAthlete

In this Candid Craic, we talk to Meirion Gravell about his experiences as a Chief People Officer and his mission to make HR practice more contextually relevant to the work being done. Drawing from his experience running HR for the most hated workforce in the UK - Traffic Wardens! - Meirion explains how he adapted Dilts and Bateson's Logical Levels of Thinking into an impactful organisational form. He especially focuses on trying to strike the right balance between areas of convergence that glue the organisation together, and areas of divergence in which contested ideas and constructive disagreements enable better decision making throughout the organisation. Meirion looks different ways of approaching organisational development - at the individual, team and organsiational level - and his bias for the former. He examines how he shifted away from the simplistic notion that there were people who were bad fits for the organisation towards one in which diverse characters with different beliefs were a strength. He focuses on how he worked on enabling biodiversity via the surfacing and discussing bad behaviours at leadership level and within teams; how that ensured that bad behaviours that shut down different opinions and ideas could get called out; why not doing so can prevent people from growing and stop organisations from becoming adaptive; and how HR needs to become more confident that this process can develop contextually-appropriate practices that can generate real value in the organisation (rather than buying in best practice solutions that are often based on pretty simplistic, contextually-inappropriate ideas).
Jenny Dilts is an advocate for balancing grief and gratitude. Furthermore, she's passionate about helping people move forward with their grief so they can create a new normal for themselves. As a Grief Coach, Jenny accompanies people on their grief journeys and supports them in the process of converting their grief into stepping stones of growth. Also, Jenny recognizes that although grief is a universal part of the human experience, the journey itself is highly individualized and changes over time. Therefore, as a Grief Coach, Jenny meets people where they are. Then she helps them explore where they'd like to be. And Jenny collaborates with her clients to build a customized vehicle for getting them there. Finally, some of the milestones along the way include: 1) Facing the grief and knowing you're not alone 2) Normalizing the experience and identifying how you experience grief 3) Digging deeply into grief and building a relationship with it. In 1980, Robert Dilts modeled the patterns of such esteemed communicators as Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi, Milton Erickson, Plato, and Socrates (to name a few.) These individuals were superb at influencing belief systems and effectively persuading with these quick verbal reframes. Dilts called these language patterns Sleight of Mouth, named after sleight of hand from artful and crafty card magicians. These patterns have a magical quality when used and can produce dramatic shifts in perception. Sleight of Mouth is a system of language patterns for persuasion and conversational belief change. They set off a chain reaction to unravel beliefs and help the listener shift perspectives. They are verbal reframes that influence beliefs and the mental maps they come from. There are approximately 14 patterns. For the NLP student, Purpose of Sleight of Mouth Patterns: Shift or reframe the various elements of a belief which make up the meaning or Cause-Effect of the beliefs to widen and enrich a person's map of the world. The outcome is to open the belief to doubt and open the belief to something more empowering. What are some examples? REDEFINE: What other meaning could this have? What is another word for one of the words used in the belief statement that means something similar but has more positive implications?Pattern of Speech: It's not that I am (you are)………….. It's that …………………. or It means…COUNTEREXAMPLE:Finding an example that does not fit the relationship defined by the belief. What is an example or experience that is an exception to the rule defined by the belief?Pattern of Speech: Haven't there been times… or Can you think of other ways…. or It is hard for me to find/think… or It is difficult for me to find/think….HIERARCHY OF CRITERIA:What are the higher criteria? Apply the higher criteria to the current statement. What is a criterion that is potentially more important than those addressed by the belief that has not yet been considered?Pattern of Speech: Which do you think is more important……..? or ….more important….More episodes on Sleight of Mouth to come.

You've probably heard the phrase, “You're never fully dressed without a smile.” And you can appreciate the sentiment, because something does happen when you feel the corners of your mouth lift. It's as though your “look” were, indeed, finally complete. And while you literally AREN'T dressed without your clothes, what you wear can also affect the way you feel just like how you feel can affect your look! Perhaps the idea is self-evident for some of you, but in this interview with Nancy Dilts on #thedeliciousstory, I found this connection fascinating: it turns out the garments you carry on your person really do shape your attitude. For example, if you go into your day frumpy, you'll feel dull. That state of “blah” is no good for you or the people you encounter. And yes, it will impact how you come across to others. In this episode of #thedeliciousstory, prepare to refresh your thoughts on the importance of your wardrobe. We meet Nancy Dilts, wardrobe consultant based in Minneapolis, Minnesota who talks about how clothes can inspire you, as well as ways to shop with sustainability in mind. THE IMPACT OF YOUR CLOTHES ON YOUI'd read some of Nancy's posts on her website after finding her on the internet and was quickly ready to embrace her business because of her balance of interest in style and a sustainable approach to clothes shopping. It helped that her posts were informative, and voice is authentic. The questions around the clothing industry's impact on the planet is something that is enormously concerning. Over at BBC in the article “Can Fashion Ever Be Sustainable?” we learn that fashion accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions, 20% of wastewater, and sucks up more energy than aviation and shipping combined!Nancy utilizes consignment shops and wardrobe consultations to help people of all genders figure out their personal style. But frankly, while I'm all about the conscientious shopping, I'm not a clothes shopper and don't usually give what I wear much thought. So, beyond the concept of recycling clothes, my opinion of personal style was ambiguous going into this interview. I mean, what do clothes REALLY do except protect our bodies, our modesty, and create an image to present to others? Not long into chatting with Nancy, I was blown away by her ideas and the elegance of her thoughts. I vigorously jotted notes and bolded quotable bits as she spoke, and I know you'll find her just as enlightening. Whether you appreciate the importance of style or are more indifferent, you'll be surprised to discover the potential significance of attire to your sense of wellbeing. For example, these days as we all spend more time at home, perhaps you've noticed a shift in your attitude based on what you wear each day. Maybe you dress more causally and have even opted to relax your personal hygiene routine as well, showering later in the day (or not at all). How have these relaxed changes impacted your mood and your thoughts?Nancy suggests that, whether it's just for you or when you'll be in public view, dress as if it matters because of its impact on how you feel. Nancy goes on to detail an experiment which proves the point, which you'll doubtless find fascinating. “Using your clothes as a way to feel better actually does work.” Nancy DiltsDID YOU KNOW YOUR BEAUTIFUL?When we touched on the idea of flipping the clothes shopping (which includes trying things on and viewing yourself in the mirror) experience away from any sense of shame some of us have, Nancy really started to grab my attention. The best part was when Nancy said:The clothes you wear that don't fit are not about you, but about the garment. Nancy works to help her clients understand that every body is beautiful. When trends don't work, or clothes don't fit, then it's the trend that's not right, or the article is too large or too small. You are fine. The most important job your clothes take on is to make you feel good, and if they don't achieve that, then it's the clothes that are the issue. “If something is not right, it's because the clothes are not right for you.” Nancy DiltsNancy delved into the subject of fit quite a bit. You'll be surprised to learn how to turn consignment items into clothes that are a totally perfect fit for you, all while being more environmentally conscious and saving money.YOUR VICARIOUS MOMENT IN ITALYPerhaps because travel is off the table for a while (until we figure out how to do it more safely in the time of COVID-19), I'm sure you'll swoon over Nancy's memorable meal story. It's the kind of experience that happens on a trip when people open themselves up to the magic of the unexpected. The dish that Nancy describes is something called Carpaccio, in Italian of course, which translates to raw meat salad. I couldn't imagine eating it, myself, but Nancy convinced me with her beautiful story of how her family encountered this dish. And since it was Italy, and they were on vacation, I get that it probably was even more wonderful in the moment. I was so inspired later that I took a quick look and found this recipe over at The Cookful, which provides an explanation of why the dish is safe to eat and great pictures of how to prepare it. And since we're talking meat in the days of a pandemic, I'm kind of on the fence about meat in general. However, I made the decision to at least buy what meat I eat from sources where I have a better idea of how the animals are cared for and the meat is prepared. Sometimes, it's more about the action we can take now than the action we hope to take someday. Check in with your local markets and see what you think. Better care of the animal translates into a better cut of meat. And when it comes to raw meat, I would think a happier animal would be a better result for Carpaccio. AND FOR DESSERT CHOCOLATENancy was unapologetic about her comfort food of chocolate, but her favorite combo was particularly delightful. See if you agree. She also mentioned a candy company based in Minneapolis that I had not heard of but has been around for more than a century. I checked out Abdallah and read their fascinating story, and hope you will, too. DRESS FOR YOU FIRSTI'm convinced that once you hear Nancy explain the influence of the clothes you wear on your personal state of mind, you'll reconsider how you dress each day. Clothes allow you to express your creativity, but they are also your armor—physically and emotionally. Your attire helps you feel better, more assured, and ready to face the world, even if your reflection in the mirror is the only audience.
