Zach Cotogni and his sister Michaela wrote Blue Honey—Personal Experiences Using Psilocybin for Mental Health in Aotearoa, a book that challenges ugly preconceptions and misunderstandings about using MCPs (Mushrooms Containing Psilocybin, more commonly known as Magic Mushrooms). In this episode, Zach talks about his experience using MCPs to overcome his addiction to alcohol and drugs. I interviewed Michaela on the Little Addicts podcast in episode #8. It was a raw and emotional interview where Michaela spoke about her long struggle with mental illness, running out of options, and ultimately deciding to break the law and use MCPs as a last-ditch attempt. If you're interested, go back and listen! Disclaimer: As psilocybin is a class A substance in New Zealand, we're not encouraging anyone to take these substances but to raise awareness. In this episode, we discuss: Using drugs and alcohol from the age of 12 after realising he didn't like himself Being a scared, confused, angry young man and how alcohol gave the illusion of strength, empowerment and being in control The ongoing cycle of using drugs to escape the reality and to dampen his emotions  Constantly chasing a rush and enjoying amphetamines (stimulants) Turning his life around following a messy experience at a mate's wedding and getting an ultimatum from his wife (sensing this time she meant it!) Deciding to stop drinking, not knowing how, and stumbling upon magic mushrooms His "wow" moment with MCPs-having an outside view looking in and experiencing a movie reel of his intoxicated moments, how he had treated people, and what an arsehole he was-and knowing he would never drink again! Writing the book Blue Honey after finding out that many people in NZ who have done their healing behind closed doors What Zach sees as the future of psychedelic-assisted therapy  MCPs are a not a silver bullet, or without risks, but should be considered an alternative Setting yourself up for a bad trip and the importance of set and setting What needs to be put in place to make psychedelic therapy safe and more available as an option Advice he'd give anyone wanting to try these substances (don't think of it as a recreational trip; it's for healing purposes) Being a typical Kiwi male taught to push down pain and reach for pain-eroding substances (that work in the short-term but create more pain long-term) Zach's message to the world or anyone going through a similar experience. These duos began collaborating and performing together, and their integration in life and on stage emits a peaceful energy. Blue Honey –a name they have been trying out to represent their collaboration, are as much a representative of the eclectic and peace seeking characters who call Nevada County home as they are a hidden gem in the music industry. You'll hear Honey of the Heart's song Corazon and Brightside Blue's song Mama, both of which are available for streaming, purchase, or download on bandcamp or Spotify.    https://honeyoftheheart.com/ https://brightsideblue.com/   Please like, subscribe or follow this podcast on your preferred listening platform, and if you are even more ambitious, it would mean so much to me if you would complete a very short survey on how to shape future episodes of the podcast. Please consider filling out this short questionnaire by clicking here.   Be a part of this podcast! sent $$$ this week to Mixed Reality Festival & Holosuites with Ratskin Records.gofundme.com/f/mixedrealityfestival“Ratskin Records Holosuites is an immersive VR venue for de-colonial artists that is a refuge from the daily oppression of our lives. This project, by Oakland-based label Ratskin Records, will feature current and upcoming artists that push the boundaries of music, experimentation, healing, and self-expression in 2021 and beyond. Through years of arts-based organizing, we have found that our communities are in crisis around physical, emotional, and financial access to physical art spaces and COVID-19 has only exacerbated this crisis. As queer and trans disabled artists of color, we are often overlooked as leaders that have, in many ways, defined the cultural output of the Bay Area. We archive underrepresented experiences and create social relevance through our own narratives. We share a value of collective liberation that gives us the integrity, passion, and inside knowledge needed to develop a platform that responds to the needs of our communities. Our goal is to pay and provide material resources for artists whose work lies on the margins of mainstream consumption. Our creative communities are made up of many marginalized identities who are attempting to navigate a myriad of obstacles centered around access. Some of those obstacles include: spread of COVID-19 for immunocompromised folks, inaccessible venue entrances for wheelchair users, gender-based harassment for Trans and non-binary folks, race-based violence specifically targeted towards Black and Indigenous people, and other forms of identity-based oppression that not only affect participants lives but their ability to enjoy music events. Ratskin is curation centered in this practice and provides resources for artists to create self-determined spaces. Our work is multifaceted as we utilize multiple avenues to address issues and focalize accountability around racism, transphobia, classism, ableism and other systems that affect access. Ratskin Records Holosuites addresses the problem of inaccessible venues by offering an interactive, digital alternative to gathering in physical spaces. The need for access solutions is even more pressing as we collectively navigate a global pandemic. We aim to increase accessibility to art and music through creating a digital realm that helps our community stay connected despite the confines of shelter-in-place. By allowing participants to engage on their own terms, Ratskin Records Holosuites lowers the barriers to arts participation by creating a curated, immersive space where both the audience and the artist are able to control their participation from their chosen locations.”DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)Child’s Pose “Caroline” S/TThe Saxophones “Alone Again” Songs of The SaxophonesThe Spires “To Complicate Matters” To Complicate MattersWives “Eclipse” DoomsdayKississippi “Cut Yr Teeth” Sunset BlushSILVER DAPPLE “Intuables” Moody BootsClimax Landers “Freedom Property Contradiction Man” Early AutumnMia Friedman “Like the Moon” Little DevilsQualcomm Stadium “Q&R” Tank EPLaura Veirs “Everybody Needs You” The LookoutLunar Vacation “Blue Honey” SwellDear Nora “White Fur” Skulls ExamplePre Nup “The Grudge” Oh WellLike a Villain “Coal” Mussel EPFollies “Pride” Still LifeTrash Knife “Locked Out” Split w/ Dumb VisionWimps “Giant Brain” Garbage PeopleThe Misty Mountain Pony Club “Hello Trouble” just me & the moonDominic Angelella “Emotional Businessman” Goodnight, Doggies.Jenny Hval “The Dreamer Is Everyone in Her Dream” The Long Sleep EP

Most children can recognize and label stereotypical gender groups between the ages of 18 to 24 months. They also categorize their own gender at about age 3. As gender stereotypes are usually reinforced, kids might choose to behave in the most rewarding way, according to the gender they perceive as the one they should express. Gender and expression are related, and still, gender identity is not always suggestive of a gender expression, and children's gender expression is not always indicative of gender identity. As parents, we must reduce our interference to none and elevate our support to the maximum; even the slightest indication that we get it can mean the world to them. In this episode, we had a fantastic conversation with Jennifer Brookings Chapman, host of the Parentingology podcast, Organizational Psychology Doctorate, business owner, and mother of 9-years-old Blue Chapman, who transitioned at age 4. Jennifer kindly shared her experience and some details of Blue's transition and how it was for her and the rest of the family. Following his older brother Cade, Blue decided to become an actor. He got a part on the show Council of Dads, where he played the role of a transgender boy. Jennifer related how it was for her and Blue to be broadcasted for such a massive audience and the impact she believes more shows with stories like that would have in our society.Tune in, and hear Jennifer's supportive, evolved, and loving story of her and her son, Blue.
