Sometimes for content we do things that may not be in anyone's best interest. Like starting the show with a shot of the newest spirit available at HGSP. I wasn't sure we'd make it past the burning, but we still managed to talk about a few things, such as comparing Craft Parenting Pod to Mariah Carey, Bockfest cannot be stopped and neither can Bret and Mike once they start talking, local criminals love Fireball, the Canadian National Anthem, and wondering if Applebee's still has riblets. ----- This episode covers the following shows : The Weekly Pint - Ep 252 - I Think That's All The Bock I Can Drink For Awhile... Blake surprised us at HGSP this week, and boy did we have a LOT of fun with both him and Gnome being on the podcast! Cheese being a critical part of the cleansing ritual. Julia doesn't know what she's doing. The first TBP Macho Off, and sausage vending machines. This is an action-packed episode. Not only were we sitting down with the awesome Jim Effler to talk about Bockfest through the years and designing the artwork alongside it - we also just happened to be recording at Gabby's Cafe, home of the new Bocce Brewing Company - and were joined by owner Dino DiStasi and Manager Joe Cornella. The show was so epic that it ALSO happened to mark the 1000th beer on the show - and Jim dove deep into his fridge to find us a treat - a couple of bottles of Sam Adams Triple Bock from 1994. We talked about Gabby's, Bocce, Jim Effler - and of course... Bockfest! This is one of those shows I'll remember for a long while... it was an absolute blast! As we're rolling through what is usually the coldest part of the season, it's time to set our sights to warmer days. This year, West Bend is hosting its first ever Bockfest celebration. Bockfest is a German tradition that celebrates the end of winter and beginning of spring. Bockfest West Bend takes place at Regner Park in West Bend on Satuday, March 2nd from 11a-5p. The event features traditional Bock beer brewed by 1840 Brewing Company. The experience is made even more authentic when the "fire tenders" stick a hot poker in your beer, which brings out a frothy, caramelized flavor. In order to attend, you must purchase your tickets in advance. Each purchase comes with a 24-ounce beer stein and $5 in Bock Bucks that you can use at participating West Bend businesses.Mentioned in this episode:Bockfest West Bend (Official Website)City of West Bend Announces New Major Event: BockfestIf you like the show, please consider subscribing at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Podcasts. This week I sat down with the voice of Cincy Beer, The Gnarly Gnome and we talked about a number of topics. The Gnome gave us a taste of what is happening in Cincinnati craft beer including the recent Bockfest, the 50 West expansion, and the sale of Listermann Brewing Company. We also talked about craft beer expansion in Ohio, the rising prices being seen at the tap, and what is necessary for breweries to avoid a collapse. At the end of the show I introduced a new segment called The Six pack of info where we get to know our guest from a non-beer centric perspective. During the interview we drank some fantastic beers including: · West Side Brewing– DIPA 9.3% · Listermann Brewing – Dry Irish Stout: 4.7% · Alematic Artisan Ales and Esoteric Brewing Co. – All Black Everything Breakfast Stout 7.9% · Urban Artifact – Beipiasaurus 7.8% Support the show by doing your Amazon shopping through our affiliate link. EPISODE 83: Moerlein Lager House & Forbes 30-Under-30's Pierre Lipton of 1440 Media plus The BBB Pod turns 2! BEERS (9:34): While prohibition closed the doors of many breweries in America, it only made the story of the Christian Moerlein brand stronger. We sit down to discuss the evolution of Moerlein beer with head brewer Curtis Eulberg and Brewers Association member/award-winning homebrewer Roxanne Westendorf, live from the Moerlein Lager House at Riverfront Park in Downtown Cincinnati. Bavarian immigrant Christian Moerlein loved to brew hearty European beers, and his product quickly made its way across the world. While prohibition halted most new beers in the early 1900s, Moerlien couldn't be stopped; they re-opened in 1981 and pioneered the resurgence of craft beer in Cincinnati. We discuss with Curtis & Roxanne the importance of staying true to the original German recipe, the location in downtown Cincinnati, and the different Bock-style beers from the weekend. BUSINESS (43:10): Forbes 30-Under-30 winner Pierre Lipton was troubled by the fact that two people of slightly differing beliefs could have fundamentally different understandings of what's happening in the world, in large part due to their media diet. So in 2017, he founded 1440 Media, a free direct-to-email newsletter to make the news fact-based and easy to digest. 1440 Media saw $7 million in revenue in 2021, but they're not done growing. Pierre sits down with us live from Long Live Beerworks in Providence to discuss his explosive growth and the future of 1440 Media. BALLS (presented by Manscaped): Kansas makes history by staging a 15-point comeback in an epic National Championship game. The Bryant Bulldogs make a mark of their own, though, landing some key transfers thanks to Peter Kiss' ambassador skills. Now that baseball is back, we revisit our picks from last week. Are the Dodgers really that good? What's in store for the Yankees after an opening series win over the Red Sox? We make our picks for Rookie of the Year. 25-year-old Scottie Scheffler is on a tear, and his latest stop is the Masters. Is Tiger Woods overdue to hang up the golf shoes? We close with predictions for the NBA Playoffs. We're proud to present Manscaped as our latest partner! What guy wouldn't want The Right Tools for The Job?! BEERS (11:42) : Our Cincinnati journey continues! For our next stop, we hit a local (and even national) favorite in Rhinegeist Brewery. Located in the historic Over-The-Rhine district, Rhinegeist's home was a pre-prohibition bottling plant, and has since evolved into a beer brand loved by Ohioans across the state. Assistant GM Aislinn Brown and Director of Education Chris Shields sit down with us over a few pints of Rhinegeist beer. We discuss the role that Cincinnati played during prohibition and the German influence on the taproom & beer style. We also try Rhinegeist's flagship IPA, Truth, which made the list of top 100 beers in the world in 2014. BUSINESS (41:34): Bradley Adams and Ali Bozzutto found a real problem upon which they built Aerogami - the accessibility of information. Picture this: you get into a small fender-bender, and you exchange information with the other party. But there's only one problem; since you have your insurance policy information on the app, and you're in an area with no service, you don't know your policy number! Aerogami's products aim to solve many different challenges in a “no-code” fashion - from travel and insurance to public safety. We chat with Bradley and Ali at the Founders & Friends event at Long Live Beerworks in Providence, RI. BALLS (Presented by MANSCAPED): The Final Four…er, the Blue Bloods Classic…has arrived! Kansas, Duke, Villanova, and North Carolina are the last teams standing in a year that's featured more mayhem than recent seasons. Duke and UNC are set to meet for the first time in March Madness history; what kind of fireworks should we expect? Is this Coach K's destiny? Can Villanova get back to the championship? Now that baseball's within reach, we set the stage for the return of the MLB. BBBBONUS: If you have a phone, you saw Will Smith slap the shit out of Chris Rock. Staged or real? Two Part Interview: We continue our coverage of the Founders and Friends live show, plus we kickoff our interview series from Bockfest. Beers (10:53): Everybody knows the conglomerate called The Boston Beer Company. For the common beer drinker, Boston Beer (and Sam Adams) isn't a name you'd associate with Cincinnati. But for the local community, it's one-in-the-same. Jim Koch, the founder and craft beer pioneer, grew up in the Queen City, where his father and grandfather were both employed at local breweries. In 1997, Koch purchased a brewery; and years later, the Sam Adams Tap Room opened in the heart of the Over-The-Rhine district in Cincinnati. General Manager Keith McEly sat down with us as our first interview of the Bockfest weekend to discuss the origins of Sam Adams and the Boston Beer Company, which run straight through the Queen City. Keith also shared the rich history of “Utopias,” a special beer collection, the importance of getting involved in the local Cincinnati community, and what's next for the Sam Adams brand. Business (35:26): Every founder has a story, and Mike Neilan's story comes from an accident. After a skateboarding injury that took him out, Mike picked up a camera in 2009 and hasn't turned back since. With a new passion, Mike went to college, gained experience, built his portfolio, and years later met his Co-Founder (ironically named Mike). The two met at a job and instantly hit it off. They knew their talents meshed well, and were ready to make a brand for themselves. It wasn't until 2018 where their dreams became a reality. Now a few years later, over 50 clients worth of work, a new office space, and a team being built, Focus Forward Media has taken the Ocean State by storm. We sit down with Mike to talk about starting a company in Rhode Island, how to take a leap of faith, and what the future looks like for Focus Forward Media. Balls: It's bracket busting season! One thing is for sure…even after the season that we cover the most basketball, we're just silly little bloggers with our silly little opinions in the end. We break down our brackets so far, discuss some of the big upsets (shoutout St. Peter's), and gaze into the crystal ball for the future. We also dive into NFL and MLB free agency, and drop our favorite signings and biggest surprises. We're proud to present Manscaped as our latest partner! This was a wild episode. I mean, the Sausage Queen preliminary rounds are little nuts normally, but throw a brewcast into the mix? Things are sure to get a little chaotic. Here's what I thought this show was going to be… a short 15-20 minute chat about what Sausage Queen and Bockfest are all about, … Volume 7, Episode 43 – Goats Are Chaos, So Are Sausage Queen Shenanigans. EPISODE 73 - Yvan Demosthenes and Christine Hall, Dead Low Brewing Company BEERS: Will gives the latest update on Providence Brewing Company's grand re-opening on the West End of the Creative Capital. They've got a great new spot inside Farm Fresh RI, an open-concept market with lots of room for expansion. More importantly, their beer is great, too! Will reviews Pound Town, a New England IPA already garnering great reviews. Jake recaps his Christmas trip to Florida, where he surprisingly had more good beer than he thought existed there. He reviews Miami Weiss (pronounce it exactly like you think it sounds), a Hefeweizen by MIA Beer Company that stacks up well in can art. BUSINESS (and Beers): Yvan Demosthenes and Christine Hall are thriving as part of the founding team of Dead Low Brewing Company. Christine founded Dead Low in 2019 with her family members, and Yvan came shortly after as an investor; what brought him into such an exciting beer brand? We discuss the sneakily booming craft beer industry in Cincinnati (80+ craft breweries and growing), starting a brewery in the midst of COVID-19, and even snagged an invite to Bockfest in March 2022! One thing is for sure; you need to get to Cincinnati if you are a craft beer lover like us. (16:29) BALLS: It's the end of the football season, and we have some bold thoughts. Is Super Wild Card Weekend a good idea? Should the NFL rethink Week 18? We make our divisional round predictions. We also recap the CFB Championship, where Georgia got revenge and rinsed ‘Bama; did the better team win? In the baseball scene, there is nothing even close to suggest an ending to the lockout. And finally, in college hoops: is Auburn or Gonzaga the best team in the nation right now? MANSCAPED: We're proud to present Manscaped as our latest partner! We join them on location at Common Grounds in Lexington, KY for an extended conversation about their history, where they are as a group and what it's like to perform.
