Joining The Scuttlebutt this week is actor and host of American Homecoming Jack Maxwell. Jack has appeared on television in Lost, 24, House, Without a Trace, Beverly Hills 90210, General Hospital, and All My Children. He hosted all four seasons of Travel Channel's Booze Traveler and has now turned his attention to helping spread the word about disabled veterans. It is an unfortunate fact that many of our veterans return from serving our country disabled, to a house that no longer serves them. What was once an easy walk up a couple of steps to the front door now requires a ramp. Hardwood floors are not a luxury but a necessity. Navigating the house now becomes a difficult, time-consuming, often-aggravating chore. In American Homecoming, a veteran and their family, will be sent away for one week on a surprise vacation. Meanwhile, the expert team of carpenters and designers, along with an army of volunteers, mobilizes with military precision to renovate and remodel the house. Each episode concludes with the unsuspecting family returning to a yard filled with an army of volunteers waiting to introduce them to their new home. ‘Southie' Jack Maxwell shares his journey as kid from South Boston kid growing up without a  father figure in a bad neighborhood to host of the successful show Booze Traveler, his battle against cancer, and how he's grateful to be alive after everything he's been through. From an early age life has never been easy for Jack. He clearly remembers the day his drug-dependent father chose his addiction over him. Fortunately, with the help of his wonderful mother and grandmother, he managed to break the cycle and grew up to be a happy and well-adjusted human. Jack created the opportunity to lead the fascinating show Booze Traveller, where he visited over 50 countries to learn about their people, culture, and stories “through the lens of a cocktail glass.” It was through the show that he got to meet people that taught him that alcohol is more than just a relaxing end to the day; it's a ritual that can form an integral part of a community, a culture, and its people. He was also delighted to find certain commonalities among people everywhere—their ability to have fun, to love, and to tell great stories despite the language and other cultural barriers. Unfortunately, the show ended because Jack was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Although he went through several painful treatments, he's now cancer-free and immensely grateful that he's still here. I’ve always been a big fan of the traveling food shows like "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives", Anthony Bourdain shows, and even locally now with Plate & Pour featuring chef Mark Tarbell. A few years ago I came across a Travel Channel show called "Booze Traveler". Ok, traveling AND drinking? I’m in. I immediately fell in love with the show and thought the host, Jack Maxwell was one of the coolest guys ever. Hell, even my kids loved the show and Jack. Fast forward to last year and there I am at Goldwater Brewing having a beer with who else? Jack Maxwell. We’ve since become great friends and our schedules finally aligned to get him on the podcast. The deal is said to be focused on a series that would highlight inspirational stories, not anything to serve as a direct rebuttal to current President Donald Trump or his policies. Bronson Pinchot, aka Balki from "Perfect Strangers," has been cast as a recurring character in Netflix's "Sabrina" series. Pinchot will recur as George Hawthorne, "Baxter High's villainous, puritanical principal. He is a constant thorn in Sabrina's side and is always trying to thwart her escapades." Disney Jr is working on a new "Rocketeer" animated series. This time, the story will follow Kit: “a young girl who receives a surprise package on her birthday revealing she’s next in line to become the Rocketeer, a legendary superhero who has the ability to fly with the help of a rocket-powered jetpack.” Assisting Kit with her adventures will be “her gadget-minded best friend, Tesh, and airplane mechanic uncle, Ambrose.” Jon Favreau has been tapped to write and executive produce a live-action "Star Wars" TV series that'll air exclusively on Disney's yet-to-launch standalone streaming service 26.5 million people tuned in to the Oscars on Sunday, making it the lowest rated event in the awards show's history. JACK MAXWELL Series:  “Booze Traveler”;  Hometown:  Boston, Mass.   Jack Maxwell has made guest appearances on hit broadcast television shows including “24,” “Lost,” “Without a Trace” and “Beverly Hills 90210.” Maxwell became a lifetime member of the Actors Studio in 2003, won ‘Best Actor in a Lead Role' at the 2012 Pan Pacific Film Festival and was presented with both the Emerald Star award and Golden Halo award from the Southern California Motion Picture Council. Additionally, he has shared stage time with Al Pacino and Jessica Chastain in Oscar Wilde's “Salome” as well as the movie, “Wilde Salome,” about the making of the play. At a young age, Maxwell made himself an entrepreneur by shining shoes in neighborhood pubs and gin mills, where he would listen to the boozy tales that echoed from above him. This early experience awakened his awareness of alcohol's magical socializing effect. He has learned his best lessons, stories and lighthearted jokes in the barrooms of South Boston. In Travel Channel's “Booze Traveler,” Maxwell ventures the globe to not only get a taste of a country's alcohol, but to quench his curiosity about what people drink, why they drink it and the stories they tell when they do. At each stop, he connects with locals, immerses himself in regional activities, learns about the country's unique relationship with liquor and sometimes even participates in the alcohol-making process.
