Like the effervescent bubbles in her sparkling wine, Emily Heintz believes that true quality always rises to the top. Emily is the visionary behind Sèchey, a dynamic platform that includes a luxury dealcoholized wine brand, a dry bottle shop in South Carolina, and a thriving DTC business offering a wide range of alcohol analogs. Sèchey also curated Target's non-alcoholic adult beverage set, bringing elevated options to the mass retailer's shelves. Sèchey's strategic direction and impressive momentum caught the attention of InvestBev, a private equity firm specializing in adult beverages. In August, InvestBev made an undisclosed investment in the company, with founder Brian Rosen praising Sèchey for having “gotten farther with less than anyone else we've seen.” In this episode, Emily joins us for a dive deep into her vision for Sèchey and the journey of building the brand. Framed around a series of true or false questions, Emily discusses the key factors driving the growth of the non-alcoholic beverage category, how Gen Z and Millennial lifestyles are shaping awareness and trial, and why she believes the founder's voice is the most essential tool in connecting with customers. Show notes: 0:25: Emily Heintz, Founder & CEO, Sèchey – Emily and Ray sample some of Sèchey's sparkling wine, before she discusses her inspiration to start the company, whether her lack of experience in beverages impacted the company early on and why NA wine has the biggest upside among alcohol analogs. She also talks about what's driving traffic in Sèchey's retail store, whether category growth is directly tied to negative health effects of alcohol, and the gap between millennials and Gen Z consumers' perception of wine. Emily also highlights Sèchey's partnership with Target, her perspective that the future of NA beverages isn't in liquor stores, why she's only somewhat concerned about lower quality options in the space, and why she believes that the first adult beverage for younger generations should be a non-alcoholic one. Brands in this episode: Sèchey, Athletic Brewing, Ghia, Kin Euphoric, Tost, Blind Tiger, Ritual Zero

Is your beverage brand in fundraising mode? If so, this is the episode for you! We talk with Giuseppe Infusino, a partner and the chief investment officer at InvestBev, a private equity firm that deploys growth capital to drinks brands. He leads InvestBev's investment sourcing, diligence, and structuring processes, and partners with portfolio companies to increase their likelihood of success. In this masterclass, Giuseppe shares his proprietary, 4-part framework for fundraising success — Plan, Path, Pitch, and Process. By the end of the episode you'll have answers to these questions: In the PLAN stage: How should I frame my product, and the opportunity it represents, to investors? What do investors want to know about my company's infrastructure? What should I be prepared to share about my customers and GTM strategy? In the PATH stage: What are the different types of funding I should be aware of? How can I find potential funding sources? How should I approach potential funders? At the PITCH stage: How should I think about my pitch deck? What is the most essential information I need in that deck? How can I improve my chances of success? In the PROCESS stage: What happens after the pitch? How can I effectively support the process? What else should I be thinking about? If you want an edge on pitching to investors in today's challenging fundraising climate, listen in. Stay tuned for our next episode dropping on 7/24. On today's episode, we speak with Brian Rosen, the Founder at Growth Beverage and BevStrat LLC. Rosen's BevStrat advocates for smaller brands, helping them grow and thrive, and as such, he has a deep understanding as to why brands become successful when they do; the top mistakes brands make, and how much it costs to hire a boots-on-the-ground sales-force vs. what a brand will spend slogging it out on their own. Rosen divulges brands he thinks will work and those that won't, also unpacking “flex” purchases, and the psychology around luxury brand sales and obscure passion projects. Show concept: This season, we're following a canned cocktail line called Hamlet Hound, from launch to growth. We've found that people (and brands) don't like to talk about how they become profitable, so we're pulling the band-aid off and delving into actual dollars and cents. You'll get an inside look at what works, and what doesn't. Want to know how to build a successful alcohol brand? Tune in as we investigate! About Brian Rosen, guest: Brian Rosen is the Founder of Growth Beverage and BevStrat LLC. He has an Executive Leadership degree from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business' MBA program and a degree in marketing and finance from DePaul University. Today BevStrat is America's leading brand sales and marketing arm for brands under 100,000 cases in the market, operating in 7+ states. Rosen is also General Partner at InvestBev with nearly $250M under management for alcohol beverage investing, he is general Partner of Algoma Capital, lending $100M into distilleries and for barrel aging, and he is Founder of Sprout Beverage, the largest Alc Bev brand incubation eco system in the US. Brian discusses the evolution of the adult beverage industry, the complexity to alcohol replacement trends and his experience investing in cannabis beverages.
It's no secret that Canada's office market isn't doing so hot. Vacancies are still way above pre-pandemic levels, and some big companies like Shopify are giving up their leases altogether. In the US, where similar dynamics are in play, the value of some commercial buildings have been marked down by as much as 80% in fire sales by panicked landlords. Should we be worried about our own office real estate market? Brian Rosen, President and CEO of Colliers International's Canadian arm, joins us to explain what's going on in Canada's office real estate market, how landlords and tenants are responding, and what impact it's all likely to have on Canada's economy. ----- Links: More episodes of Free Lunch by The Peak: https://readthepeak.com/shows/free-lunch Follow Taylor on Twitter: @taylorscollon Follow Sarah on Twitter: @sarahbartnicka Subscribe to The Peak's daily business newsletter: https://readthepeak.com/b/the-peak/subscribe
In this episode, host David Abrams is in conversation with Brian Rosen, President & CEO | Canada at Colliers International. We learn about Brian's non-traditional journey to commercial real estate and his experience bringing teams together to create opportunities where 1 + 1 = 3. We discuss the long term nature of the industry and the role that buildings will play in supporting their business partners. Brian goes on to say, “the best operators are investing in amenities and engagement with the tenants and community, and that's why tenant experience apps are going crazy.” Our conversation also addresses the importance of ESG as just one example of delivering on what tenants want—and how this same attention to environmental concerns was an early impetus to the development of HILO, in order to reduce print communication and move buildings toward digital connectivity. Brian is not quite ready to give up on the notion of “location, location, location” as a critical driver of real estate decisions, but he does believe it's critically important for properties to have a vision and a commitment to technology, tenant experience, and connection to community and amenities.
