On this episode, I release the full recording from our third ever live podcast show. It was filmed at the Just Trek Podcast 5 Year Anniversary celebration on Sat, April 5th at the Happier Cafe by TADAA.Coffee space in Frogtown, Los Angeles. The live podcast show featured an all star panel of previous podcast guests that included Joshua Walker (outdoor content creator + travel blogger), Nicole Snell (CEO of Girls Right Back, Founder of Outdoor Defense), Victor Martinez (Founder of The LA Trail Killers), and Jaclyn Cosgrove (Outdoor Reporter at the LA Times), and myself as the moderator. It was an entertaining and impactful group conversation that definitely left a major impression on the audience. We chatted about what sparked their love for the Great Outdoors, the importance of solo exploring, their most memorable outdoor adventures + travel experiences, and what the historic LA fires have taught them. After the group discussion, we opened up a live Q&A to the audience so that everyone could join in on the fun and ask the guests their own questions and show them some love.________________________This episode is brought to you by HIGHLANDER Adventure. Today's guest is Doug Bopst, award winning personal trainer, author, speaker, and podcast host. Doug has an incredible transformation story from a former incarcerated drug addict to where he is today and says he is lucky to have survived his 25th birthday. Through perseverance and a complete mindset shift, Doug turned his pain into purpose to become a successful, multifaceted individual. In this episode, we discuss childhood trauma, how his choices that lead him down a dark path were driven by a need for acceptance, addiction to the validation of being wanted or needed, why drugs created a false sense of confidence at his most insecure point in life, coping with anxiety and depression, understanding that no one is coming to save you, finding the strength to push past rock bottom and the pivotal moment that turned his life around, fitness as medicine for physical and mental health, tips for staying disciplined and becoming your own biggest advocate, doing the work and saving your own life. I was so inspired after talking to Doug and I think conversations like these are so important to have, whether it's my own rock bottom story or someone else's. Even though all of our stories are different, I hope to anyone listening who may be struggling that this shows that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and you CAN find the strength to push yourself past your adversity. My guest today is Dr. Neha Sangwan, an internal medicine physician, CEO, and founder of Intuitive Intelligence, and an author. We dive deep into the takeaways from her latest book, "The Power of Me," inspired by her journey into and out of professional burnout. She shares all the ways that we can course correct and avoid personal and professional misery and exhaustion, or worse, physical disease. Between our fast-paced world and underdeveloped communication skills, it's no surprise that many of us do not navigate our friendships, spiritual life, exercise life, nutritional habits, and mental health practices at a level that supports us in the long term. Neha gives specific strategies on how to navigate stress today and avoid burnout. She also creates realistic techniques that can help us effectively communicate honestly and openly during stressful times. Through her medical practice, she realized that most of her patients were suffering physically from something in other areas of their lives. Once we have the ability to tune in and isolate these sections of our life, it gives us the tools to figure out if they are a drain or a gain and what tools and exercises we can use to reinforce our well-being. In "The Power of Me," she does a thorough job of giving you the science, tangible exercises, and a practical workbook with multiple examples of techniques around communication based on your personal style. On today's episode, I'm chatting with Paige Lindgren, a Certified Hormone Specialist and Pilates Instructor who is passionate about helping women feel their best and find balance, hormone health optimization, and healthy lifestyle choices. Paige also co-founded From Force to Flow, a cycle syncing platform that's full of hormone knowledge and tips for each phase of the menstrual cycle. Together we discuss the different phases of the menstrual cycle & optimization for each one, hormone imbalances and conditions (PCOS, Hashimotos, etc.) and how to test for them/manage symptoms, the impact that cortisol has on feeling safe in our bodies, why getting more protein is so important, long-term effects of blue light exposure, social media & screentime breaks, healthy sleep patterns, the difference between a healthy and dysfunctional thyroid, why over-exercising can cause more harm than good, managing environmental stress, natural vs. hormonal birth control options, exposure to elevated amounts of BPAs and microplastics, honoring cravings during menstruation, and so much more! I love how Paige presents these findings in a way that's both approachable and easy to understand, while creating a safe space for women with shared experiences to discuss their journeys. Today's guest is naturopathic doctor Dr. Saman Faramarzi. Dr. Sam is someone who has guided me physically and spiritually through a lot of my acne journey and completed her naturopathic medical training at Bastyr University. Dr. Sam studied cutting-edge research on mindfulness at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She incorporates her knowledge into private practice and witnesses profound changes in patients just after a few visits. I thought this episode would be an awesome opportunity for my POW audience to have an “appointment” with a naturopath as I recognize that these tests may not be readily available or accessible to everyone - as always take what works and leave what doesn't and I hope you learn something new along the way. On this episode, we get into the seven different tests we ran on me and my results, how health relates to trauma and mental/emotional health, stress roadblocks and clearing pathways to live optimally, principles of Chinese medicine, the importance of healthy gut and liver function as well as microbiome diversity, hormone health and thyroid issues, why food sensitivity is controversial, environmental toxins and how to properly detox, parasites, and simple tips and hacks that can make a huge difference to your health and overall happiness long term. I also address some recent feedback as well as give updates to the protein bar formulation before we get into the episode, so make sure to listen - this ep is full of valuable insights and I can't wait for you to hear it!For Mari's Instagram click here! For Pursuit of Wellness Podcast's Instagram click here! For the SAFA Life and Wellness website click here! For Dr. Sam's Instagram click here!To shop Bloom Nutrition Greens click here! She is undoubtedly a wellness guru (self-proclaimed or not) and is deeply passionate and well-versed in all arenas from food to nutrition to exercise, plastic surgery, and more. At the ripe age of 52 she has never looked better so we thought what better conversation to have than to tap into her ageless beauty secrets (she has a lot by the way!). This week, Busy & Caissie compare their experiences seeing the movie everyone is talking about, which they can't name, because of the strike. Caissie also clarifies what she wasn't doing to her husband in broad daylight in the parking lot of a big box home repair store. Then, actor, dancer, singer, model and one of the stars of a massively popular hit TV show that also shan't be named, Heather Morris, joins the party to talk about why she's nervous about her sons running around naked with a new dog in the house and why she's so glad she never got a Slushee to the face in the aforementioned show. Plus, she talks about a serious and deeply personal pivot that occurred during her time on that show. And, she discusses her latest gig as Executive Producer of the darkly comedic dramatic podcast, “The Bystanders.” Season 2 is out now, starring Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, Margaret Cho, Kathleen Turner and more! Welcome back to another episode of The Viall Files: Ask Nick Edition! We're back to answer your burning questions about the world of dating and relationships. Before getting to our callers, we talk about our weekend field trip to Schwartz & Sandy's, what we thought about it, and what the staff had to say! Our first callers are a husband and wife that have different understandings of empathy. Holly wishes Will was more empathetic and could help with her emotions while running a business, but Will is hoping for more understanding that it doesn't come naturally to him and he also has a very stressful job. Our second caller recently broke up with her long term boyfriend, only to have one of her guy friends shoot his shot. We analyze all of the signs to figure out if he's being supportive or wanting more out of their friendship. Our final caller is in love with two men she's dating - one of whom she has a deeper emotional connection with, the other with great chemistry in the bedroom.
