Like the effervescent bubbles in her sparkling wine, Emily Heintz believes that true quality always rises to the top. Emily is the visionary behind Sèchey, a dynamic platform that includes a luxury dealcoholized wine brand, a dry bottle shop in South Carolina, and a thriving DTC business offering a wide range of alcohol analogs. Sèchey also curated Target's non-alcoholic adult beverage set, bringing elevated options to the mass retailer's shelves. Sèchey's strategic direction and impressive momentum caught the attention of InvestBev, a private equity firm specializing in adult beverages. In August, InvestBev made an undisclosed investment in the company, with founder Brian Rosen praising Sèchey for having “gotten farther with less than anyone else we've seen.” In this episode, Emily joins us for a dive deep into her vision for Sèchey and the journey of building the brand. Framed around a series of true or false questions, Emily discusses the key factors driving the growth of the non-alcoholic beverage category, how Gen Z and Millennial lifestyles are shaping awareness and trial, and why she believes the founder's voice is the most essential tool in connecting with customers. Show notes: 0:25: Emily Heintz, Founder & CEO, Sèchey – Emily and Ray sample some of Sèchey's sparkling wine, before she discusses her inspiration to start the company, whether her lack of experience in beverages impacted the company early on and why NA wine has the biggest upside among alcohol analogs. She also talks about what's driving traffic in Sèchey's retail store, whether category growth is directly tied to negative health effects of alcohol, and the gap between millennials and Gen Z consumers' perception of wine. Emily also highlights Sèchey's partnership with Target, her perspective that the future of NA beverages isn't in liquor stores, why she's only somewhat concerned about lower quality options in the space, and why she believes that the first adult beverage for younger generations should be a non-alcoholic one. Brands in this episode: Sèchey, Athletic Brewing, Ghia, Kin Euphoric, Tost, Blind Tiger, Ritual Zero

Echo the Blind Tiger is a heartwarming and empowering tale about a young tiger named Echo, who navigates the world without sight. Through four thrilling adventures, Echo discovers the power of his heightened senses—smell, touch, hearing, and taste—showing that there's more than one way to see the world. This beautifully rhymed story is not just a delightful read for all children, but a particularly special book for parents of children with sight loss. It offers a comforting and uplifting message that celebrates the unique abilities that come with blindness, while gently acknowledging the challenges. Echo's story serves as a reminder that true strength and perception come from the heart, and it encourages children to embrace their differences with pride and confidence. "Welcome back to the Neighbourhood Watch with Strange Neighbours. We hope you enjoy this month's meeting. Make yourself comfortable again, there's snacks on the table. This month's meeting involves a presentation of some our favourite tracks from the neighbourhood, and we also have a guest presenter. Guest presenter: Spiro Catalano Spiro Catalano's groovy tech house sound has been making waves all over California and the world, with this inspiration drawing heavily from early 2000's hip hop and skateboarding culture. Since learning to DJ at age 12, Spiro has grown into a powerhouse producer with releases on record labels such as CUFF, Farris Wheel, Wyldcard, Late Night Munchies, and more. His early DirtyBird style has caught the eye of VonStroke himself, earning Spiro a spot at DirtyBird Campout in 2018 at the Bass Lodge for the afters. Although Spiro was born and raised in Northern California, where he's still based today, he has also played at staple SoCal venues such as Blind Tiger, Bardot, and Wicked West, which is no surprise given his unique DJ-ing style: Spiro does not believe in preparing mixes when he can overlay acapellas over beats to create his own twist on song. It's truly a rare treat to hear live. Notably, this year, his music was played out on several stages at the Coachella Arts & Music Festival, as well as Connections Festival in Brazil and even at Ministry of Sound in 2022. Spiro Catalano hails from humble beginnings, but given his rapid upward trajectory, it's clear he's a rising star in the world of house music. It started with a passion and a pandemic. It led to an understanding and conviction. Blind Tiger is linked back to Erie, Pennsylvania's Room 33 Speakeasy where owner, Rebecca Styn, PhD., brought her passion for the Prohibition era to life. Mirroring the ban on alcohol in the 1920's, the onset of the pandemic in 2020 forced the speakeasy to provide only sans-alcohol drink options to-go. The team took on the challenge to deliver a top-notch spirit-free cocktail that mirrors the flavors of the original, less the alcohol. The result: a sophisticated cocktail with the defining flavors, with or without the spirit. Rebecca joins Justin to discuss this growing beverage brand!

Every year the Brewers Association puts together the Craft Brewers Conference, or CBC, as a means for industry professionals to continue their education, network with peers and improve quality and performance. I attended this year's CBC as a member of the media, and because there are plenty of beer pros that didn't make it, I wanted to share a few of the many exhibitors that I think you ought to know about. Some of these companies I'm already familiar with and I personally know they're doing great things. But, some I recently discovered and thought were cool enough to share with you. Either way, I hope you enjoy this highlight of CBC 2022. Oh, and by the way, I have not been compensated by any company to produce this series. I simply want to help good things get out into the world. Why? Because Good Beer Matters, of course. Thank you for listening. Cheers Check out Blind Tiger Design here. With the growing popularity of zero-ABV cocktails, it's no surprise that Blind Tiger Spirit-Free Cocktails was among the first wave of brands to receive a wholesale order on RangeMe shortly after the service became available on the platform. According to NielsenIQ, off-premise sales of non-alcoholic grew 87 percent versus last year. And a survey by CGA - Americas revealed that 11 percent of consumers have recently tried a non-alcoholic cocktail at an on-premise location. ECRM's Joseph Tarnowski spoke with Founder Rebecca A. Styn, Ph.D. (who also owns the Room 33 restaurant in Erie, Pa.) about the origin of her brand, the growing no-ABV trend among consumers, and how she works with buyers to determine the optimal placement and assortment of this growing segment of the adult beverage category. #business #retail #cpg #cocktails #spirits #ecrmrangeme

Best-Selling author SANDRA BROWN and her incredible novel BLIND TIGER are on the radar! We tackled some of the most fascinating topics out there, including the long-term impacts of Prohibition on society,  black markets, the rise of crime, the problem of addressing the symptoms of societal problems like addiction and domestic abuse, instead of the root causes … and we didn't stop there! We talked about the lack of options for women in the 1920s, and some of the parallels with today's society, including the sex trade. We address disappointment, and the sometimes overwhelming (and damaging) expectations that we place on people we love. And finally, we examined the creativity and strength displayed by Sandra's characters … even when they found themselves on opposite sides of the law. You don't want to miss this one!

The Trailblazers conversations begin this week with the brilliant, fearless Sandra Brown—aka Erin St. Clair and Rachel Ryan. We talk about everything from her first books, acquired by Vivian Stephens for Candlelight Ecstasy, about how Slow Heat in Heaven was her personal game changer, about the beginnings of romantic suspense, and about what makes a Sandra Brown novel, the most recent of which, Blind Tiger, was released last month.Thank you to Sandra Brown for taking the time to talk to us, and share her story. We've got an interstitial episode coming your way next week, but our first read along (in two weeks) is Amanda Quick's Ravished—which Sarah describes as “Harriet, in a cave, with a rake.” It's great. Get reading at: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Kobo, or at your local indie. You have two weeks to read, but in the meantime, sit back, relax, and let us give you a preview of what's to come! Don't forget to like and follow in your favorite podcasting platform!Show NotesWelcome to our first trailblazer, romance legend Sandra Brown. Her latest release is Blind Tiger, which was her 73rd book on the New York Times bestseller list. Blind Tiger is a thriller set in Texas during the 1920s.Prohibition went into effect on January 1, 1920. In Texas, the town of Glen Rose was the Moonshine Capital of Texas. The Ford Model T was the first mass produced American car. Here's a video of the actual driving experience of the 1915 model. If you'd like to see a bunch of Model Ts in the same place, you can visit the winter home of Thomas Edison in Fort Myers, Florida. Henry Ford visited so often that he eventually bought the home next door. Prohibition and moonshining gave birth to NASCAR.Sandra's first books were bought by Vivian Stephens for Candlelight Ecstasy under the pen name Rachel Ryan. She wrote for Silhouette under the name Erin St. Clair, and for Pocket as Laura Jordan. Carolyn Nichols at Loveswept wanted authors to use their real names, and now all of Sandra's books have been rereleased under her own name.Sandra appeared on the cover of one of her own Loveswepts, The Rana Look, with actor Mclean Stevenson. Some of the romance authors Sandra mentioned: Paris Afton Bonds, Candace Camp, Mary Lynn Baxer, Nora Roberts, Jayne Ann Krentz, Barbara Delinksy. Some of the thriller/mystery writers Sandra mentioned: Helen MacInnes, Evelyn Anthony, Gayle Lynds, David Morrell, and Lee Child.

Blind Tiger: By Sandra Brown | Book Review Podcast Website: https://gobookmart.com/ “Set in 1920, this superior thriller from bestseller Brown firmly anchors all the action in the plot . . . Laurel and Thatcher are strong and inventive characters, and their surprising decisions and evolving relationship will keep readers engaged. Brown shows why she remains in the top rank of her field.”―Publishers Weekly, Starred Review “Brown doesn't often delve into historical fiction territory, but she does here with gusto, and readers will practically taste the dusty streets of Foley and feel every rickety bump of the moonshiners' trucks. There are shoot-outs and reformed prostitutes and a no-good hillbilly family, but none of it feels like an empty stereotype—it's just all a lot of fun. Combined with Brown's knack for romantic tension and page-turning suspense, this one is a winner.”―Booklist, Starred Review "A masterful storyteller."―USA Today "Brown deserves her own genre."―Dallas Morning News "A novelist who can't write them fast enough."―San Antonio Express-News --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gobookmart-review/message

Join Sandra Brown in conversation with Pamela Fagan Hutchins on this episode of Wine Women & Writing as the two authors discuss Sandra's historical fiction release BLIND TIGER, 1920 as the mirror image of 2020, characters that hijack books, great female villains, and much more. About Sandra Brown: Sandra Brown is the author of more than sixty New York Times bestsellers, including STING (2016), FRICTION (2015), MEAN STREAK (2014), DEADLINE (2013), LOW PRESSURE (2012), LETHAL (2011), and the critically acclaimed RAINWATER (2010). Brown began her writing career in 1981 and since then has published over seventy novels, bringing the number of copies of her books in print worldwide to upwards of eighty million. Her work has been translated into thirty-three languages. Brown recently was given an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Christian University. She was named Thriller Master for 2008, the top award given by the International Thriller Writer's Association. Other awards and commendations include the 2007 Texas Medal of Arts Award for Literature and the Romance Writers of America's Lifetime Achievement Award. About BLIND TIGER: With a “knack for romantic tension and page-turning suspense, this one is a winner.” The year 1920 comes in with a roar in this rousing and suspenseful New York Times bestselling novel by Sandra Brown. Prohibition is the new law of the land, but murder, mayhem, lust, and greed are already institutions in the Moonshine Capitol of Texas (Booklist, starred review). Thatcher Hutton, a war-weary soldier on the way back to his cowboy life, jumps from a moving freight train to avoid trouble . . . and lands in more than he bargained for. On the day he arrives in Foley, Texas, a local woman goes missing. Thatcher, the only stranger in town, is suspected of her abduction, and worse. Standing between him and exoneration are a corrupt mayor, a crooked sheriff, a notorious cathouse madam, a sly bootlegger, feuding moonshiners . . . and a young widow whose soft features conceal an iron will. What was supposed to be a fresh start for Laurel Plummer turns to tragedy. Left destitute but determined to dictate her own future, Laurel plunges into the lucrative regional industry, much to the dislike of the good ol' boys, who have ruled supreme. Her success quickly makes her a target for cutthroat competitors, whose only code of law is reprisal. As violence erupts, Laurel and—now deputy—Thatcher find themselves on opposite sides of a moonshine war, where blood flows as freely as whiskey.
