As the white paper China released on Saturday underscores in its opening sentence, "Earth is the only home of all humanity, and tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development are vital to our survival and future". Released by the State Council Information Office two days after the opening of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in the Brazilian city of Belem, the paper reinforces that the country remains resolutely committed to the global climate cause. Titled "Carbon Peaking andCarbon Neutrality: China's Plans and Solutions", the paper outlines the big progress the country has made so far in promoting itsgreen and low-carbon energy transition and its firm commitment to peaking carbon emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060. Thanks to its vigorous measures to substitute renewables for fossil fuels and establish a new energy and power system, China has made notable progress in its green and low-carbon energy transition. The percentage of nonfossil energy consumption increased from 16.0 percent in 2020 to 19.8 percent in 2024, the largest and fastest scaling up of clean energy worldwide. By the end of August 2025, the installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power had surpassed 1,690 gigawatts, triple that of 2020 and accounting for about 80 percent of the country's newly installed power generation capacity since 2020. Meanwhile, it had 112 nuclear power units in operation, under construction, or approved for construction, with a combined installed capacity of 125 GW, ranking first in the world. Its installed capacity of biomass power generation reached 46.88 GW. The utilization of fossil energy has also become more efficient and efforts to improve the reliability and resilience of the power system are paying off as part of the country's implementation of major pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The achievements China has made should encourage others to pursue their own green transitions, as the global imperative to address climate change cannot be shouldered by any country single-handedly. It is a responsibility that must be borne collectively. China is willing to share its approaches, actions and experience in this regard to help other countries pursue their green transitions. The cooperation between China and its Belt and Road partners in green infrastructure, energy and transport, which continues to expand, and the financial, technological and capacity-building support it has provided to the best of its ability to countries of the Global South are testament to this. The year 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement. Over the past decade, green and low-carbon development has become an unstoppable trend. But only through concrete measures and solid actions can we turn the goals to tackle climate challenges into reality. Reinforcing the country's resolute commitment to action, President Xi Jinping announced China's 2035 Nationally Determined Contributions at the UN Climate Summit on Sept 24, setting the clear target of reducing economy-wide net greenhouse gas emissions by 7 percent to 10 percent from peak levels, and striving to do better.2025年是《巴黎协定》签署十周年。 To this end, China is mobilizing both the government and the market, intensifying technological and institutional innovation, and accelerating the green and low-carbon technological revolution, under its "1+N" policy framework, in which the "1" stands for the top-level design and guiding principles and the "N" is the action plans for implementing these overarching directives in key sectors, industries and administrative districts. In stark contrast to China's contribution to the global climate cause, the United States has been backpedaling on its climate commitments recently. Despite the fact that its total historical greenhouse gas emissions are the largest in the world, and the country's per capita emissions are the highest, the US has taken major steps backward and severely undermined global climate governance efforts by twice withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, having applied to do so for the second time in January this year. The US' retreat from the climate fight is detrimental to collective action, and has the potential to shatter the collective will, as its shortsightedness not only weakens international trust and cooperation but also encourages and emboldens other nations to relax their commitments. However, at a United Nations Security Council meeting on climate and security on Thursday, US representative Dan Negrea launched a veiled attack on China, accusing China of gaining unfair economic advantages by undercutting its economic competitors, and urged UN member states to look to the US as a model. It is high time the US stopped its finger-pointing at China, redressed its own mistakes and joined hands with other countries in the world to take urgent and unified action in mitigating the impacts of climate change and ensuring a sustainable future for all. China isa doer in the global response to climate change. Concrete actions, unbreakable solidarity and forward-looking cooperation are nonnegotiable if we are to address the global climate challenges and secure a clean and sustainable future. Carbon Peaking碳达峰Carbon Neutrality碳中和green and low-carbon energy transition绿色低碳能源转型A doer行动派

The ten years since the Paris Agreement was signed at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP 21, have been the ten hottest years on record. And the outcome that the Paris Agreement sought — limiting global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels — is now widely considered unattainable. There are other hurdles as well. Many nations have not submitted climate action plans, or nationally determined contributions, to the UN. And President Trump says he plans to re-withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement. Still, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change marches on. Next week, delegates, activists, and journalists will converge in Belém, Brazil, for the 30th Conference of the Parties, or COP30. So what are some of the possible outcomes of this year's climate summit? Will the absence of the United States even matter? Will the issue of climate equity and financing garner much attention? And what could come from a new forum that Brazil is planning, where governments will discuss how climate policy affects trade? This week, Bill Loveless speaks with Elliot Diringer about the issues that are likely to dominate the upcoming COP. Elliot is a global fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy directing its International Dialogue on Climate and Trade. He brings decades of experience in climate diplomacy as a negotiator, journalist, and policy strategist. He first engaged with the topic as a reporter covering the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and later served in senior roles in the Clinton administration, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and more recently as a senior policy advisor to Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry during the Biden administration. Welcome to the latest addition to the Tuesday Wire: Green World! A segment run by bfm news team-ers Sara, Leilani & Max, Green World will dive into the eco-future — uncovering everything from niche research topics, strange and interesting tech innovations, and the latest environmental developments from across the globe. This week, the first ever Overshoot Conference will take place in Austria, where climate experts from around the world will come together to discuss how climate targets can be recovered as we head toward exceeding 1.5 degrees of warming. New Zealand Climate Change Commissioner Dr Andy Reisinger, who will be attending the event, says the global capacity to respond to this urgent issue “depends on collective social and political will”. Last week's UN Climate Summit also saw numerous political leaders speaking to global climate commitments, in particular in the lead up to COP30. US President Donald Trump denounced scientific evidence on the urgency of climate change, Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo called for urgent climate action. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand spokesperson Carolyn Schwalger called for refreshed commitments to international cooperation on climate solutions, and Albanese specifically called out isolationist decision-making across the globe. In the first interview with Dr Andy Reisinger, Host Sara talks about the Overshoot Conference and global climate action. When it comes to a global response to climate impacts, UN Chief of International development Achim Steiner has said that an observed increase of national defence spending has detracted from critical investment. University of Auckland Management and International Business professor Sasha Maher who has engaged with research on climate finance, spoke to Sara about the financial obligation of individual states, towards climate solution.
This week at the United Nations General Assembly, Syria's new interim president Ahmad al-Sharaa came with a message: Syria is back after being isolated for about six decades. Also, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the UN Climate Summit the country's first national emissions reduction targets. It marks a shift in China's approach to climate policy, which, until now, allowed emissions to grow in tandem with economic growth. And, Denmark issued a formal apology yesterday for forcing Indigenous women and girls from Greenland to use contraceptive devices. Beginning in the 1960s, Danish doctors inserted IUDs into thousands of Inuit women and school-age girls, often without their or their parents' knowledge or consent. Plus, climate change has exacerbated drought and extreme weather in northern Ghana, leaving many in the agricultural region struggling to grow enough food. Chef Fatmata Binta sees a solution in fonio, a grain similar to couscous, indigenous to West Africa.Listen to today's Music Heard on Air. Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices
Today we welcome back Alex Newman to talk about some of the important issues as 2024 draws to a close. First up, the recent UN Climate Summit and his attendance there, things he saw and heard. Does the election of Donald Trump cast a shadow on the globalist Christmas wish list? Or is it business as usual, shaking down the richest nations for trillions to finance their scam? We'll find out what he saw first hand and what the outcome could mean for our bottom line tax bill. Next, we discuss the Trump transition team, not the usual process involving favors to politicians who do favors to get, well, favors in return, but rather, these are non-politicians who are promising to work for us little folk. Who might be confirmed, who might not. Will things get done from day 1? We will break that down with Alex's help. Another topic is the education system and how dissolving the Department of Education might affect our children, taking education back to state control and what that might look like. A full hour of important topics. Follow Us on Rumble

The UN climate treaty summit known as COP29 teetered on the edge of collapse as less developed nations implored the rich countries of the global north to provide financial relief to help them cope with rising climate costs. Alden Meyer of E3G was at the COP and explains the frustrations with the process and the compromise delegates eventually reached. Also, astronomer Phil Plait wondered what it would be like to walk on Mars, fall into a black hole, or fly through a nebula, so he wrote a book, Under Alien Skies: A Sightseer's Guide to the Universe. He reveals the strange colors of a sunset on Mars, what it's like on a planet orbiting binary stars, the unique challenges of landing on an asteroid, and more. -- Join us on December 5 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern online or at the New England Aquarium for a conversation between Host Steve Curwood and Susan Casey about exploring the deep sea, home to otherworldly marine life, soaring mountains, and smoldering volcanoes. In this Climategenn episode we hear two committed voices non different sides of the climate engineering debate, make their cases as to why we should or should not research geoengineering with the intention of deployment to cool the Earth. Dr Heidi Sevestre is an internationally renowned polar scientist making the case against climate engineering (also known as geoengineering) and Herb Simmens is the founder of an international group called the Healthy Planet Action Coalition (HPAC). Both interviews were recorded at COP29 and reflect entrenched positions on both sides of the debate. There are many more voices and we urgently need to hear them - not least from the vulnerable communities who maybe severely impacted by such cooling schemes. The last word goes to Professor Diana Ürge-Vorsatz, Vice Chair of the IPCC, where she comments on how climate engineering is moving into the main literature advising the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Thanks for listening. Subscribers can preview the episode recorded during week 2 with Professor Kevin Anderson ahead of its as yet unknown publishing date. This week marked the 1,000 day of the Ukraine War. We'll unpack recent developments, including Ukraine's use of US-supplied ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory for the first time, intensified Russian attacks near Kurakhove, the pause in operations at the US embassy in Kyiv, and Russia's updated nuclear deterrence doctrine. Then world leaders met this week in Azerbaijan for the UN Climate Summit, Peru for the APEC Summit, and in Brazil for the G20. How did Trump's victory affect the dynamics of these meetings, with Biden already fading into the background and Xi being front and center? We'll also talk about Trump's pick of RFK for US health secretary and the possible impact on global health and pandemic prevention. Stefanie Bolzen, Prashant Rao, and Andrew Roth join Ivo Daalder to discuss these topics and more on this week's World Review.

Did you know that at the end of 2023, December 13th to be exact, Biden signed a pledge at the UN Climate Summit, the COP28, that effectively states that those signatories must lead their countries away from all fossil fuels? This Fossil Fuel Eradication Pledge, of course, was never voted on but the wealthy, jet-setting, climatologists at the UN want you to never use gasoline or natural gas ever again! This is the opposite of what Trump did! He made America non-reliant to any other country regarding our energy needs, while the Biden Administration wants you submissive to their world-governed state without giving you a choice. Today, I'm joined by my friend Francisco Guerra who has made it his life's mission to create tools that will protect us if Biden's Agenda succeeds. As we look back on 2023, there were many things the Biden Administration tried to sneak in before their final year in office and one initiative might just have slipped by you. And yet their houses are filled with gas stoves! This is the opposite of what Trump did! He recognized that natural gas is hugely important for our self-sufficiency, our energy dominance, and our independence. Trump made America unreliant to any other country when it came to our energy needs, while the Biden Administration wants you submissive to their world-governed state without giving you a choice. That's what's different about the American spirit. We fight back against the tyranny of the government, elected or not. So what does this mean for us? What can we do about the Fossil Fuel Eradication Pledge the Biden Administration is trying to sneak in? Today, I'm joined by my friend Francisco Guerra who has made it his life's mission to create tools that will protect us if Biden's Agenda succeeds. The planet is burning up, humanity's addiction to fossil fuels is to blame and the host of a crucial UN climate summit is the United Arab Emirates, a Gulf petromonarchy whose stated aim is a 25 percent ramping up of activity at its state oil company ADNOC. In fact, it's ADNOC's boss, Prince Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber, who's official chair of the COP28 summit. In fairness to the UAE, these annual gatherings rotate between regions and it just happened to be the Middle East's turn. One year after Qatar's hosting of the World Cup sparked accusations of sportswashing, we ask how green Dubai will seem when the gavel comes down on a crucial gathering for carbon-cutting pledges and climate finance for developing nations. The more you know. - - - - - “Sultry American blondes” with impressive environmental bona fides promote UN Climate Summit, praising host country that lives of off of oil & gas revenues. Yep, they're fake…bots. - - - - - White House announces it is considering solar geoengineering (blocking out the sun) to stop climate change. Other countries rush to host a conference to stop us! - - - - - Going green will kneecap America's ability to support Ukraine, or anyone else, in a major war.
