The jury in the Lindsay Clancy remains deadlocked. Allie explains the possible verdicts available to the jury and presents three concise reasons why Clancy should be convicted of the willful murder of her children. If the jury is unable to decide on a verdict, the judge will declare a mistrial and the prosecutors will decide whether to retry the case. Many women, both liberal and conservative, have sided with Clancy. Allie warns against losing sight of the actual victims in this case and challenges them to think about how they would react if the victims had been their own children. Justice should never be rooted in compassion but in truth. Empathy-based justice is not justice at all. Every piece of evidence and information in the case should be viewed in light of the undisputed fact that Lindsay Clancy murdered her three kids. Even in the midst of this darkness and confusion, Allie reminds Christians that God's plan of redemption is going off without a hitch; he is completely sovereign, even over something as awful as this. Allie concludes the episode by looking at “Oreo gate” — the viral social media mom drama concerning Oreos in school lunches — and whether it is even real. Do you have a question for Allie? Pushing Up Lilies
The Lindsay Clancy Trial: The Case Is Now in the Jury's Hands

Pushing Up Lilies

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 2, 2026 42:19

The Lindsay Clancy trial has reached one of its most important moments. The witnesses are finished, both sides have made their closing arguments, and now twelve jurors are left to decide what happened inside that home on January 24, 2023, and whether Lindsay was criminally responsible when Cora, Dawson, and Callan died. In this episode of Pushing Up Lilies, I'm taking you through the final stretch of testimony without making you sit through every minute of psychiatrists and psychologists arguing over diagnoses. Because, y'all, even I recorded that version, and decided I wasn't going to do that to you. Instead, I want to focus on what actually matters. The Commonwealth brought in its final three experts, and while none of them suggested Lindsay was well or that her suicide attempt wasn't real, they disagreed with the defense over two critical issues: whether she was psychotic and whether she still had the capacity to understand that what she was doing was wrong. We'll also talk about the moment religion entered the testimony and the defense asked for a mistrial, what happened during closing arguments, and the five possible decisions the jury can reach for each child, including what a finding of lack of criminal responsibility would actually mean. As a forensic nurse death investigator, I keep coming back to something I learned working scenes: evidence doesn't narrate itself. Phones, medications, searches, timelines, medical records and witness statements give us pieces. It's investigators, experts, attorneys, and ultimately jurors, who have to determine what those pieces mean. And that is exactly where this case now sits. The jury doesn't have to decide whether Lindsay suffered. Every expert agreed that she did. Their job is to determine whether the Commonwealth proved criminal responsibility beyond a reasonable doubt. And while we talk about mental illness, diagnoses, criminal responsibility and everything surrounding this trial, I don't want us to lose sight of the reason that courtroom exists in the first place: Cora, Dawson, and Callan. I'll continue following the case and bring you an update when something moves. Content Note: This episode discusses the deaths of children, strangulation, suicide, self-harm, and serious mental illness.

They see this case very differently and cover how the prosecution landed, how the defense landed, and what could happen next. The prosecution's own expert called the killings out of love. After 14 days of testimony and nearly 70 witnesses presented by the prosecution, the defence in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial took the floor. Their core argument? That Lindsay should not be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children because she was in the depths of severe postpartum psychosis. In the latest episode of our mini-series tracking the trial, we walk through the defence's argument, led by attorney Kevin Reddington. Featuring powerful testimony from Lindsay’s mother, mother-in-law, and key psychiatric experts, the defence presents evidence to show a devoted mother begging for help, misdiagnosed, and allegedly failed by a fragmented medical system. We also examine the prosecution's rebuttal, including testimony from FBI psychiatrist Dr. Gregory Saathoff, who challenged the credibility of Lindsay’s auditory hallucinations. As expected, the jury heard a dramatic and powerful closing argument from Lindsay Clancy defense attorney Kevin Reddington. Reporters inside the courtroom described both Clancy and several jurors wiping tears from their eyes as Reddington showed pictures of the once happy family that he said was ripped apart because of “of the damn medicine and the lousy medical care that she got." Reddington took nearly the full hour to make his final case to jurors, saying the prosecution has manipulated the evidence, and reiterating that Clancy was a “darn good mother” who had no motive to kill her kids. The prosecution began its closing arguments by acknowledging Lindsay Clancy was mentally ill, but pointed out that she had an “abundance of help” and was in a privileged position. Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague told jurors that Clancy lied to health care providers, lied to her husband, friends and family., telling them she was getting better. Sprague at one point, even made a comparison to Andrea Yates, saying Yates tried to commit suicide twice to try and protect her children, until the judge intervened. The prosecution ended by saying Clancy left her children “discarded on the basement floor, like broken toys, because she was done playing the game.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lindsay Clancy Closing Arguments: Reddington Says Prosecutors Faked the Villain

Kevin Reddington spent an hour on his feet trying to undo weeks of testimony, and he didn't do it quietly. In his closing argument in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy — the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan, with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023 — Reddington told jurors the prosecution built a version of his client that doesn't exist: cold, controlling, calculating, a woman who supposedly hated the kids she's accused of killing. He didn't stop there. Reddington argued prosecutors even tried to wave off Clancy's own suicide attempt — she allegedly jumped from a second-story window afterward and is now paralyzed from the waist down — as somehow not real, not serious. That's a bold argument to make about someone who broke her spine trying to die.The core of his closing came down to burden of proof. Reddington told the jury the state never showed, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Clancy wasn't in the grip of psychosis when her children died. And he went after the state's own experts by name of function, not credentials — claiming one built a career chasing terrorists, another specialized in juvenile offenders, and a third allegedly mixed up schizophrenia with psychosis. If true, that's not a small gap in expertise.Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, resting her defense on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. The case is being heard in Plymouth Superior Court, where jurors now carry the weight of deciding whether a mother accused of the unthinkable understood what she was doing — or understood nothing at all.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? #LindsayClancy #LindsayClancyTrial #TrueCrime #CrimeTalk #courtnews  The Lindsay Clancy murder trial is now in the hands of the jury. After weeks of testimony, prosecutors and the defense delivered sharply different closing arguments over the central question in the case: Was Lindsay Clancy criminally responsible when she killed her three children, or was she suffering from a mental disease or defect that left her legally not responsible? Prosecutors argued the killings were planned, deliberate and carried out by someone who understood that what she was doing was wrong. The defense argued Clancy was suffering from severe postpartum mental illness and psychosis that fundamentally altered her perception of reality. Jurors must now consider first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter and the issue of criminal responsibility. Scott Reisch breaks down the closing arguments, the legal instructions and the difficult decisions now facing the jury.

Closing arguments have concluded in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a mother accused of strangling her three young children to death. Day Twenty Two brought the Lindsay Clancy trial to its final stage. After five weeks of testimony from more than 80 witnesses, Kevin Reddington and ADA Jennifer Sprague delivered closing arguments presenting two very different explanations for why Lindsay killed her three children, Cora, Dawson and Callan.Reddington argued that Lindsay was suffering from severe postpartum mental illness and psychosis, highlighting her deteriorating condition, repeated attempts to get help, extensive medication history and the defense experts who concluded she lacked criminal responsibility. The Commonwealth acknowledged Lindsay was mentally ill but argued she still understood right from wrong and retained control of her actions, pointing to the errands she sent Patrick on, her behavior before the killings and questions surrounding her account of a command hallucination.Judge William Sullivan then gave the jury its final instructions, including the law surrounding first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter and lack of criminal responsibility. Six alternates were released, leaving a deliberating jury of nine women and three men.The case is now officially in the jury's hands. After 21 days of testimony and sharply conflicting psychiatric opinions, the central question is no longer whether Lindsay Clancy was mentally ill—but whether the Commonwealth proved beyond a reasonable doubt that she was criminally responsible when she killed her children.
