In Class With Carr 325 comes live from Justice for Greenwood's weekend of rituals marking the 120th anniversary of Tulsa Oklahoma's Greenwood District, where the memory and residue of “Black Wall Street” illuminates irreconcilable questions of violence, self-determination, and state power. We discuss nation-state's monopolies on violence, restrictions on movement, and how Africans and indigenous communities continue to resist in pursuit of freedom. In many ways, stories of Tulsa and Greenwood present as a microcosm of the US, where settler colonialism, Indigenous sovereignty, and African world-making converge, clash and intersect. Through reflections on repair, governance, memory, and community, we observe that Greenwood's story is our story. As the US continues its barreling toward a contested 250th anniversary, this lesson feeds and shapes this week's Momentum of Memory: We are all Greenwood. Are you a member of Knarrative? On episode 131 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers field a listener question about whether it's worth voting when the ballot offers no candidate who actually represents her. It’s an especially potent question in light of redistricting, the recent Supreme Court gutting of the Voting Rights Act, and the chaos of states redrawing maps in the middle of an election cycle. FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans laughed and said "yes, yes to that" while a radio host told Hakeem Jeffries to "get your cotton-picking hands off of Virginia." Kiggans later claimed she didn't hear the "cotton-picking" line. Jeffries is calling for her resignation. All six conservative Supreme Court justices attended Trump's state dinner honoring King Charles the night before the Louisiana voting rights decision dropped — a ruling that further guts the Voting Rights Act of 1965. A new study found that people who regularly engage with arts and culture — reading, listening to music, visiting museums — may biologically age slower. The effect may even equal regular exercise. A suit has been filed against OpenAI over ChatGPT's alleged role in the Florida State University shooting that killed two people. Trump is calling Black women reporters names when asked questions he doesn’t like. First he called Rachel Scott of ABC a “b**ch” and then he called Akayla Gardner of MS NOW a “dumb person.” How does one even respond? On this episode of A Pod Named Kickback, the conversation gets personal, reflective, and a little uncomfortable—in the best way possible. The crew talks about Mother's Day from different perspectives, including what it feels like to navigate life and healing without a mother, and how holidays can hit differently depending on your journey. We also dive into self-care and regulation: what do you do when you're feeling off mentally, emotionally, or spiritually? Whether it's getting out the house, getting a haircut, spending time with family, or just resetting your energy, we unpack what keeping yourself together really looks like in real life.We also touch on the growing conversation around Hantavirus, cruise ship concerns, and whether people should really be paying more attention to these outbreaks. Then things take a turn into the unknown as we discuss The Age of Disclosuredocumentary and the recent talk surrounding alleged alien/UFO files connected to Donald Trump. Are we alone in the universe, or has the truth been sitting in front of us the whole time? And finally, we react to the tragic story of two brothers who stepped in to defend their sister during a domestic violence situation and lost their lives in the process—a heartbreaking reminder that protecting loved ones can sometimes come with unimaginable consequences.Short episode. They also dig into the ongoing fight around voting rights, gerrymandering, and how decisions tied to figures like Donald Trump continue to impact communities of color today.Bringing it back to culture, Nu and Jacq show love to John Wall returning to Howard University in a leadership role, and tap into new music from The Arti$t, whose latest project sets the tone with a smooth, undeniable vibe. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has called on the left to embrace MTG (Marjorie Taylor Greene), Candace Owens, and other MAGA who have disowned Trump. On its face, it might seem like a bad idea–MTG in particular has made racist remarks toward Omar on the House floor–but Rep Omar’s logic is hard to argue with. 34:50 Join hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers, along with guest-host Joshua Doss, for this segment from episode #127 that aired on 04-16-27. After a politician has done something wrong, when do we say they are redeemed? When do we let them back in? Of course it’s different if it's a public figure like a politician vs. just a friend, but are there red lines where we never allow them back again? There’s been a spate of members of Congress credibly accused of fraud, sexual misconduct, and assault. Who is redeemable and why, and what must they do? President Trump has made headlines across the world for doubling down on threats to “send Iran back to the stone age” and bomb ALL of their infrastructure: railways, powerplants, bridges, etc. Destroying civilian infrastructure is a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions (which apparently doesn’t mean anything anymore). Even Conservatives like Tucker Carlson, Majorie Taylor Green, and nut-case-in-chief Alex Jones have expressed alarm at Trump’s threats. In today's episode, host Angela Rye takes us on a journey into the mirror world of conservative media, to see how they’re responding to Trump's war with Iran. Iran has promised to retaliate against attacks on its infrastructure by attacking the oil and water infrastructure of neighboring gulf countries, which would likely cause a global humanitarian and economic catastrophe.
