The LSU Tigers wrapped a rather drama-free national signing day with all 27 of their commitments signing national letters of intent to play in Baton Rouge for the 2024 season. What did Brian Kelly and the Tigers snag in the first signing day of the season? First, one of their top rated recruits and one of the top players in the nation at his position, TE Trey'Dez Green, signed with LSU. With Kelly's history of developing and using tight ends, what could Green's usage be this season and beyond? Also, one of Kelly's priorities when he took the job at LSU was to sign a quarterback in every single recruiting class. Colin Hurley, the 4-star signal caller from Florida, is his quarterback in this class. What does he bring to the quarterback room and what can we expect from him this year? Locked On's official recruiting insider, Brian Smith, joins Caroline Fenton of Locked On LSU to break down LSU's class, the progress Kelly has made on the recruiting front through his first few years in the program, and how the Tigers stack up against the rest of the Southeastern Conference. The LSU Tigers quarterback room lost its Heisman Trophy starter Jayden Daniels but had third-year player Garrett Nussmeier leading the way in front of true freshman Rickie Collins and 2024 recruit Colin Hurley before bringing in depth, insurance, and experience with former Vanderbilt starting quarterback AJ Swann via the transfer portal. Swann has notched 12 starts and has seen action in 15 games over his last two seasons in Nashville. An elbow injury left him sidelined for a big portion of the 2023 season but after a rough 2-10 season with the Commodores he looks for a fresh start in Baton Rouge. Assuming Nussmeier will be the starter for the Tigers in 2024, Swann provides experience to a quarterback room that doesn't have much of it outside of Nussmeier himself. Ideally Swann will push Nussmeier and create a quarterback competition as LSU prepares for a grind of a 2024 schedule. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy award winner Jayden Daniels has exhausted his NCAA eligibility and will declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. Backup Garrett Nussmeier has been waiting patiently behind the scenes for his opportunity at the starting job at LSU. Nussmeier could have transferred after Daniels won the job in 2022. Heck, he could've transferred before the 2023 season. Countless programs, both in the SEC and outside of it, could have used the gunslinger's services. But he decided to stay dedicated to LSU and stick it out with the Tigers in hopes that 2024 would be his year, and in all likelihood it will be. But even with Garrett Nussmeier as the incumbent, should the Tigers still consider bringing in an established veteran through the transfer portal? Without Daniels, the Tigers have Nuss and true freshman Rickie Collins who redshirted in the 2023 season. They also intend to sign 4-star quarterback Colin Hurley in the 2024 class. It is a crowded room, but it isn't an experienced room outside of Nussmeier. Could the Tigers' insurance policy be waiting around in the portal? Who would that quarterback be? LSU football hosted some of the top recruits across the country over the weekend for the Bayou Splash event. It was a star-studded weekend as Brian Kelly and the rest of the recruiting staff hosted some of the class of 2024's finest, including five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons from Texas and four-star QB and LSU commit Colin Hurley from Orlando. It didn't take long for the "BK Takeover" tweets to start rolling out and for recruits to want to pledge their commitment to the Tigers. LSU landed two offensive line commits in as many days after the event, snagging 3-star offensive tackle Ory Williams and flipping 3-star interior offensive lineman Joseph Cryer from division rival Ole Miss.So what is the significance of this weekend? Why should LSU Tigers fans care about the two offensive line commitments, both when it comes to the offensive line itself and recruiting as a whole? Locked On LSU host Caroline Fenton breaks down the weekend and why the last 48 hours could just be a sign of what is to come, and much more, for the Tigers of the future.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!LinkedInLinkedIn Jobs helps you find the qualified candidates you want to talk to, faster. Jacksonville quarterback prospect Colin Hurley re-classified from the 2025 class to the 2024 class because, per Locked On recruiting insider Brian Smith, he is just that good. Hurley could have had his pick of nearly any and every college football program but decided in November to follow Brian Kelly and committed to play for the LSU Tigers in the 2024 recruiting class. But recent reports and rumors reveal that Hurley may still be taking visits around the country, including the Miami Hurricanes. He has expressed his love for LSU several times, even after these rumors have started, but should there be any cause for concern of Hurley potentially decommitting from LSU? Brian Smith joins Locked On LSU host Caroline Fenton to discuss the latest he has heard about Hurley and the process LSU will go through when recruiting a player so far away from high school graduation. We've landed on a word to sum up Ohio State's recent recruiting efforts: 'Unfair.' Thankfully we mean 'unfair' to the Buckeyes' trail competition. Wednesday marked the third day in a row an elite wide receiver joined Ohio State's Class of 2023 haul. Bill Kurelic and Mark Porter are here to discuss the addition of Noah Rogers to previous WR pledges Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss. But this show offers so much more. We discussed a veritable who's who of elites as the biggest recruiting weekend of year in Columbus approaches. You want a few names? How about Caleb Downs, Jason Moore, Matayo Uiagalelei, Colin Hurley, Stacy George, Tackett Curtis, Miles Lockhart and a bunch more! Spend 5ish with this a.m., 'Nutters! It's been a huge week for Ohio State in recruiting – specifically, for wide receiver recruiting.Ohio State landed commitments from five-star wide receivers on back-to-back days when Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss committed to the Buckeyes on Monday and Tuesday. To help us put it all into context and explain how the Buckeyes pulled it off, Eleven Warriors recruiting analyst Garrick Hodge joins us on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays. We break down how Ohio State's success recruiting wide receivers over the past five years is unprecedented and how Brian Hartline made OSU into the place top receiver prospects want to go, and Garrick shares his intel on how OSU ultimately won the battle for Tate after a push from Tennessee. In other recruiting storylines, this week brought us our first opportunity to see Dylan Raiola in person as he participated in Ohio State's final camp of the summer on Tuesday, and we share what impressed us (beginning 13 minutes in) while watching his throwing session and talking to him afterward.Another quarterback also stole the show on Tuesday as Colin Hurley earned an offer from the Buckeyes, and we discuss (starting around 18:40) how that could set up a fascinating race to be Ohio State's 2025 quarterback between Hurley and Ryan Montgomery. To wrap up camp season, all three of us make our picks (26:05) for who impressed us the most across Ohio State's seven camps. And Garrick predicts (31:00) which four players in the 2023 class will be the next players to commit to Ohio State. (Note: This episode was recorded before Jermaine Mathews, one of those four players, announced his July 1 commitment date.)In the final 22 minutes of the show (beginning at 36:15), Griffin and Dan preview this week's NBA draft and guesstimate where Malaki Branham and E.J. Liddell will be selected while sharing our thoughts on what kind of players we think each of them will be at the next level.
The full conversation featuring Colin Hurley, #1 2025 QB (12 offers, Trinity Christian High School - Jacksonville, FL.).
Several players performed as expected last night, and a few new names emerged. Players from Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian and Lake City (Fla.) Columbia played hard and represented themselves well. Some of the players that did well last night from Trinity Christian include Treyaun Webb, Cam Miller, Darnell Rogers, Fred Highsmith and Colin Hurley. For Columbia, impressed by Adeon Farmer, Tray Tolliver, Amare Ferrell, Jaden Robinson and the toughness of the defense overall. They battled despite being placed in tough situations for much of the game. Did not see as much of Marcus Peterson as one would prefer because the starting quarterback simply did not have time to throw, but his athleticism was never in question, nor his play-making ability. "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! (aka a "GLT with me CG!")
Welcome to a very special Episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes! Please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" one of my very very favorite Actors: Colin Hurley!Ahhh Mr Shakespeare!I had the great priviledge of being on stage with Colin many years ago, at the very beginning of my career as an Actor. An experience I will never forget!Colin was the most astonishing Hamlet and he tought me the true nature of Ensemble: "The spiralling upwards" of excellence that happens when true magic - or Alchemy & Gold as I like to call it - is present in the "Clearing" of the Stage!Marvellous!I was Polonius (and the Gravedigger) to Colin Hurley's astonishing "Hamlet" back in the day, at the Salisbury Playhouse circa 1990!Polonius's conceit of course is to watch Hamlet carefully to ascertain if he is mad or not...I remember standing there listening to him and ACTUALLY thinking: "Fuck me! You're awesome!" And indeed he was and is!A really lovely, rich juicy conversation indeed about the true nature of Acting, along with the highs - the lows - the triumphs - the disappointments - and the resurgences to shine once more! Acting in all of its flavours & textures, warts and all.Colin has had a rich and varied career and is a Shakespearean Specialist, Actor & Teacher in particular. He has appeared at the RSC, The National - particularly The Globe - and has been a regular foil to Mark Rylance. And indeed Colin was Sir Toby Belch in THAT Production of "Twelfth Night" with Mark Rylance and Stephen Fry in London & New York circa 2013.You can also "Watch/Listen" to Colin's time in The GLT "Clearing" here:So - thanks for listening! The Podcast series that features "The Clearing": Where all good questions come to be asked and all good stories come to be told!Think "Desert Island Discs" but in a Clearing - and with Stories rather than Music! There are some lovely juicy storytelling metaphors to also enjoy along the way:The Clearing itself - A Tree (where we get to "shake your tree to see which storytelling apples fall out, in the form of a lovely storytelling exercise called "5-4-3-2-1") - some Alchemy - some Gold - and finally a Cake with a Cherry on Top!Also think about William Shakespeare - and about Jaques in "As You Like It" in particular:"All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances,And one man in his time plays many parts,His acts being seven ages..."And as my Guest in the Podcast: Now is your 'moment in the sunshine' to share your story!Who are you? What's your story? And what 'life-lessons-learned-along-the-way' would you like to share with us? And just to get bit "existential on yo ass" too (!) what would you like your legacy to be? How would you most like to be remembered? And all my guests have at least 2 things in common: They are all Creative individuals - and all with an interesting story to be told!If you'd like to find out more, then please do check out my websites www.secondcurve.uk + www.instantwit.co.uk - and there's also a dedicated "Good Listening To" Facebook Group c/o the link above.Plus if you'd be interested in the experience of being given "a damn good listening to" yourself, or you'd like to explore the idea of some Personal Impact Coaching from me CG - to help level-up your confidence, communication, and personal impact c/o my online Coaching proposition: The Second Curve "Zoom Room" - then, by all means, do get in touch via any of the usual social media channels (see above) or you can email me at chris@secondcurve.uk (The Second Curve "Zoom Room": Coaching to help you 'level up' your IMPACT - or to get Clarity on how to get to "where next?")
