I had the pleasure of chatting with Colin Morris from Kingston FrameWorks and discussing his passion for helping artists thrive. Morris studied finance, but when he was in his early 20s, he never imagined taking over his father's business. Now, helping Kingston artists and improving FrameWorks' online store has become his “central focus.” We discussed topics like limited edition prints, framing, and marketing art products and services on social media to connect with buyers from all over the globe. Day 203 Today's Reading: Titus 3 Research experts tell us we communicate only 7 percent with our words, 38 percent with our tone of voice, and 58 percent with our actions. This is why Paul emphasizes the word deeds to the young pastor Titus. In today's chapter we are getting from the apostle Paul the last of the pastoral letters. His emphasis to Titus in chapter 3, and really throughout the entire Epistle, is focused on the 58 percent. I imagine Paul feels like Benjamin Franklin who said, “Well done is much better than well said.” Basically, it is better to be a good doer than a good talker. John Donne said: “Of all the commentaries on the Scriptures, good examples are the best.” Another word for example in the book of Titus is good deeds. The apostle Paul is really careful to tell us it's not the good deeds that make us Christians and get us to heaven: “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). But it is good deeds that should be coming from God's people. He wants us to know that though we are not saved by good deeds, we pursue good deeds because they are the outflow of the work of God in our lives: "Remind the people to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed. . . . This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men." (Verses 1, 8) Be ready for every good deed and engage in good deeds. Then he repeats in verse 14: “Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.” Again, he encourages us to engage in good deeds. But these exhortations are not limited to Titus 3. In Titus 1:16, Paul tells Titus about people who know how to talk but not live: “They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.” Or as one Colin Morris put it, “Your theology is what you are when the talking stops and the action starts.” Then Paul speaks about good deeds in chapter 2, two more times: “In all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified. . . . Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds” (verses 7, 14). Zealous for good deeds. It seems like “good deeds” is the emphasis Paul is giving to Titus: Titus, let your people show their Christianity, not just speak it. You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips. Our challenge is to live what we say. People will see with their eyes before they will listen with their ears. Our actions can bring someone closer to Jesus or be the very thing that turns them from Jesus. Charles Banning was right when he said, “Too many of us have a Christian vocabulary rather than a Christian experience. We think we are doing our duty when we're only talking about it.” People may doubt what we say but they will believe what we do. As the late British evangelist Gypsy Smith once quipped, “There are five Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and the Christian, but most people never read the first four.”

Matt Jonsson (Trolla Bolla Snatcha Razoo), joins me in The Engine Room this week to discuss his musical journey and artistic heritage. Born in Sweden, Matt emigrated to Australia with his family in 1972. Matt spent 10 years as the drummer in the popular Punk/Rock Adelaide Band the 'CLOWNS OF DECADENCE', and was for the most part responsible for all the amazing artwork that the band used both in the elaborate stage props as well as on album covers and posters. The band formed in 1988 from 3 former members of 'Festered Vestoons" and one from Toxic Avengers, by June 1990 they were named as 'Clowns of Decadence' and had adopted a performance image of wearing clown makeup and silly clothes to back up their politico-protest leanings, deploying elements of circus, music and performance in their live shows. The group released three extended plays and an album, 'Clowns of a Lesser God' on Homegrown Artists / Siren Records before disbanding in 1998. The band toured extensively all over Australia, sharing the bill with other popular bands of the time including: Front End Loader, You Am I, TISM, Powderfinger, Regurgitator, Beasts of Bourbon, Def FX, Cosmic Psychos, Chocolate Starfish, Fireballs, and Paul Kelly. The bands circus theme was inspired by Matt's grandparents, who were famous Circus Artists in their 'Traveling Tivoli' in Sweden from 1922 to 1955, Matt's grandfather Anton Tivoli joined the circus at the age of 16, working as an acrobat artist and did a high-wire act, in 1922 he formed his own Traveling Tivoli and became a Knife thrower. Matt's grandmother was blind folded and tied up while his grandfather also blind folded, would throw knives around her. Matt's father Ted Jonsson was the youngest child, he did not embrace the "carnie lifestyle", and instead worked as a carpenter, prior to becoming an Adelaide based sculptor. Matt's sister Marie Jonsson-Harrison is a former successful model, who won ” Miss Summer Spain” 1981,” South Australia Model of the Year” 1982 and “Australian Model of the Year” 1984. The families rich artistic heritage eventually led to her becoming an artist herself, specializing in 'Naïve Art'. Matt is a Sculptor/Artist who's work can be seen at various locations around Adelaide including the 'West End Brewery' Riverbank Display's, the 'Magic Cave' at David Jones, 'Blackebys Sweets', the Adnyamathanha sculpture at Wilpena Pound, and in the men's room at the at The D'Arenberg Cube, which features urinals that double as giant gaping clownlike faces. Matt and his partner Michelle's commercial art business 'Artistic Impact', are currently in the process of expanding their products and developing a new website, once finalised they will be trading under the name of 'ART STUDIOS AUSTRALIA'. In his senior year, Colin enlisted in the Marines and he recently finished his service this past October of 2019. In his time in the military, Colin did two deployments overseas. His first tour was in Syria and his second was in Japan as well as the Philippines. I had an opportunity to talk with Colin Morris, Director of Product Management for Adobe about how things like smart speakers and voice assistants are potential game changers for how companies engage customers and prospects. Colin Morris returns to discuss my first favorite episode of Roswell and (not at all coincidentally) the true beginning of the Michael/Maria ship. While I try to contain myself over all the spar-flirting, we also cover set dressing on a budget. The key? Use lots of velvet.
