In this fifth episode of the Heaven series on the City Rev Life Podcast, Pastor Robey Barnes and host Craig Stephens tackle some of the most common and misunderstood questions about what happens when we die. Drawing from passages like Philippians 1:23, Acts 7, and the words of Jesus to the thief on the cross, they unpack why Scripture teaches that believers enter immediately into the presence of Christ—not into soul sleep or purgatory. They explore what the Bible reveals about the intermediate state, the resurrected body, and how our identity endures in eternity. Along the way, they contrast cultural expectations of happiness with the deeper hope found in Christ, reminding listeners that this life is not heaven—it's preparation for it. Ultimately, they call believers to live with an eternal mindset, anchored in joy, hope, and a missionary purpose.
In this message, Pastor Craig Stephens takes us into the story of young Samuel's first encounter with God's voice in 1 Samuel 3, weaving in a personal camping trip story to show how vital light and guidance are—both physically and spiritually. He explains how Israel was in a spiritually dry season where God's word was rare, and how much courage it took for Samuel to deliver God's tough message to Eli. Pastor Craig then connects Samuel's experience to our own lives today, reminding us that God still speaks through Scripture, prayer, and the wise voices of other believers. He encourages us to slow down, seek God's direction regularly, test what we sense, and build habits of obedience. When we listen for God and follow His lead, He brings clarity, renewal, and transformation into our everyday lives.

By the time these companies finally go public, most of the growth is already “cooked in.” That leaves people investing through retirement accounts buying stock at a premium while much of the upside has already been captured. In this episode of Superpowers for Good, guest Craig Stephens, founder of Anatoc Media, shares how he helps everyday investors understand and, where possible, tap into this elusive pre‑IPO and IPO economy through AccessIPOs.com and his Retire Before Dad blog.Craig explains the core problem bluntly: “From 1996 to this year we went from about 8,000 public companies to just 4,000.” That shrinking universe means the broad market funds many people depend on for retirement are drawing from fewer companies, while an expanding slice of innovation remains locked up in private markets. He points to the rise of giant private companies as a turning point. “These companies really started with Uber. Uber waited a long time to go public and by the time it went public most of its growth was already built into the company.” When firms can command higher valuations and easy capital while staying private, they have little incentive to list, especially when secondary markets and tender offers already provide liquidity for insiders and employees. The result is a widening access gap. “With fewer companies going public that wealth is getting sort of sectioned off in this venture capital world which is just not accessible to everybody,” Craig notes. Regulated crowdfunding and other exemptions appear as part of the solution, opening a window for retail investors to participate earlier, even if only on a small scale compared to institutional players.Craig distinguishes between his two platforms. Retire Before Dad focuses on what he calls the “boring stuff” — index funds, sound retirement planning, smart personal finance habits. Access IPOs is intentionally more speculative, a place for investors to allocate a small slice of their wealth to higher‑risk, higher‑potential pre‑IPO and IPO opportunities. The discussion underscores a growing conviction among advocates for retail investors: the financial system needs more pathways for ordinary people to participate in the wealth generated by innovation. While regulation crowdfunding alone cannot fix the system, it is an essential part of a broader effort to ensure that elites are not the only ones who benefit from the most dynamic companies of this era.tl;dr:The episode explores how shrinking public markets prevent many ordinary investors from sharing in innovation‑driven wealth.Craig explains why companies stay private longer, shifting most gains to venture capital and other private‑market players. The conversation highlights how regulation crowdfunding and Reg A create limited but meaningful early‑stage access for the crowd.Craig shares his path from IT consulting to launching Retire Before Dad and Access IPOs to educate DIY investors.Craig presents his superpower of empowering investors, illustrated through his IPO community and practical guidance for smarter participation. How to Develop Empowering Investors As a SuperpowerCraig's superpower is empowering investors to take control of their own money. His work is about “empowering ordinary investors to take control of their money whether they are young or old.” Through his two platforms, he supports younger people “interested in these hot companies that are going public or that are private” and retirees he “empower[s] to manage their own money as DIY planners and investors.” Craig challenges the aura of complexity built by the financial industry, insisting “investing doesn't need to be that difficult or complex and ordinary investors can do it on their own,” accessing both traditional assets and, where appropriate, “the other economy that a lot of people don't have access to.”Craig described a small investing community that began on Facebook and later moved to Patreon. He does not give formal advice but offers tools, education, and a trusted space to discuss IPO and pre‑IPO opportunities. Within that group, members identified and accessed the Circle IPO. “At some point it was up six or seven hundred percent and that's very unusual,” Craig explains. Because the community had developed knowledge and shared strategies together, ordinary investors were ready to participate through available brokerage channels. Craig emphasizes there are also deals that “didn't jump out of the gate,” highlighting both the potential and the real risks of this approach.Tips for Developing This Superpower (Actionable)Demystify investingLearn basic concepts in public markets, IPOs, and private offerings to see that they are understandable and navigable.Adopt a DIY approachTake responsibility for core decisions about saving, allocation, and risk instead of defaulting everything to professionals.Anchor most money in simple vehiclesUse broad index funds and long‑term retirement accounts as the foundation of a personal investing strategy.Limit speculative capitalTreat IPOs and pre‑IPO deals as a small, clearly defined portion of an overall portfolio.Build or join trusted communitiesEngage with smaller, higher‑trust groups rather than anonymous online forums crowded with bots and hidden agendas.Increase access thoughtfullyWhen appropriate, open accounts at reputable brokers or platforms that offer IPO, pre‑IPO, or crowdfunding access.Stay clear‑eyed about riskRemember that “IPO investing carries significant risk” and expect that not every deal will be a winner.Prioritize habits over hypePair occasional high‑upside opportunities with disciplined saving, consistent investing, and long‑term planning.By following Craig's example and advice, empowering investors can become a skill. With practice and effort, it can become a superpower that enables more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. In this message, Pastor Craig Stephens teaches from Isaiah 58 on how real worship is more than songs and Sunday routines. It's worship that moves outward toward others. When we love God vertically, it should overflow into compassion for people horizontally. This is the kind of faith that changes cities. Historically, Christians led in starting hospitals, caring for the poor, and showing up where needs were visible — and we're called to continue that same kind of love today. Join us as we talk about what it means to serve our neighbors, care for the vulnerable, and practice a faith that blesses others and invites the blessing of God into our own lives.

How can someone who isn't very plugged in catch up on what One Generation is all about? What if I don't feel ready to make a commitment yet? What if it's just not a good time financially? What if I'm unsure my contribution would even make a difference? How can I get involved now, even if I wasn't at Commitment Sunday? And ultimately — why does this initiative matter so much for City Rev and our future? Whether you've already made your commitment or you're still figuring out your next step, this episode will help you understand how every single person can play a part in what God is doing through City Rev in this defining season.

In Part 2 of our All Pro summer series, we look at the courageous faith of Esther—an unlikely queen who stood in the gap for God's people at a moment of crisis. Living in exile in ancient Persia, Esther found herself with a unique opportunity: she could risk everything to speak up for her people—or stay silent and protect herself. Through the encouragement of Mordecai and the power of prayer and fasting, Esther chose to act. Her story reminds us that when God gives us influence, it's not for our comfort—it's for His purpose. This message challenges us to live boldly for others, to lead with faith under pressure, and to trust that God places us in positions of influence “for such a time as this."

This episode offers clarity and encouragement for anyone navigating challenges in marriage, reminding us of God's design and heart for covenant love.
God spoke to Craig about healing for a lame Sikh priest. Then the police came... Jesus said it was for our good that he left the earth (John 16:7). That seems hard to believe. What could be better than sitting down and having a coffee with Jesus? Jesus is described as the living "word of God" (John 1:14) - that meant everything he said was God's voice as well as everything he did. The early disciples could hear God's voice as they were walking down the streets of Jerusalem, as they were sharing a meal with Jesus over bread and olives, as they were listening to Jesus preach on the temple steps. How could anything be better than that? The answer of course is that Jesus' departure signalled the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It was better not only because the Holy Spirit would remind us of everything Jesus said and did, he would also speak about things to come - that is, the issues that Jesus didn't cover while he was on earth! It's better because unlike Jesus who was limited to a physical body and the language and customs the first century Jews in the Greco-Roman world, the Holy Spirit speaks to apply those truths to new times, places and cultures! In this episode you'll see the truth of Jesus' words. Our guest, Craig Stephens is an officer of the Salvation Army and has heard God speak in places like India, China, Pakistan and communities in his own hometown. Craig ministers as an evangelist across Australia and beyond and trains others to share the good news. He also works with global missions movement, Impact Nations, and loves to take teams across the world to train them in preaching the gospel and healing the sick. In this episode, you'll hear about: Craig's God story, growing up in church but then leaving as he didn't feel like he could behave well enough to meet the church's standards. It was a few years later that Craig re-entered the church after a miraculous encounter with the Holy Spirit that changed his heart and gave him boldness to share his faith with others. The Holy Spirit lit a fuse that wouldn't go out! Craig's God-conversation that led him into ministry and in particular, working among the marginalised and broken in Sydney. Craig tells how the Holy Spirit showed him a vision of his middle-class church being mobilised to serve the poor with details about the actual building they could use. Later Craig shares how a visit to the local police and an offer to serve in the most difficult area of the town led them to the exact building! Then they watched as God brought transformation… I could see the people in our church carrying the grace they had in the community… the schoolteachers sitting alongside bedraggled, roughed up kids and coaching them in their schoolwork… the physiotherapists doing therapy in a particular room… the ladies who serve the morning tea hosting the community in a cafe. I couldn't stop seeing it. The incredible God-conversation that led Craig and his team to pray a Sikh priest who had been lame since birth and the God-conversation that subsequently led to a last minute escape from arrest by the Sikh police. A God conversation that led Craig and his team to reach people by the side of the road at the Athens Olympics. Subscribe to God Conversations with Tania Harris and never miss an episode! In Part 2 of From Death to Life, Pastor Craig Stephens unpacks John 11:45-53, revealing how the Pharisees' fear of losing control led them to plot against Jesus—despite witnessing His power over death. As Caiaphas and the religious leaders prioritized political stability over faith, they missed the fulfillment of God's promises. This message challenges us to examine what we're clinging to instead of fully surrendering to Christ. Are we holding onto control, comfort, or fear? Or are we willing to trust in Jesus and step into the new life He offers?
What does it take to build a marriage that reflects God's love? In the third and final episode of Gambling & God, host Angelica Barros sits down with Pastors Josh Slautterback and Craig Stephens to tackle a new kind of gamble—pyramid schemes, cryptocurrency, and the fast-moving world of digital assets. In a culture that constantly promises quick wealth, how can Christians discern between wise investing and reckless risk? This episode unpacks biblical wisdom on stewardship, greed, and financial responsibility, helping believers navigate modern financial trends with faith and integrity.
God calls unlikely people to do extraordinary things. In Messengers, Part 3, Pastor Craig Stephens unpacks the powerful story of Saul's radical transformation in Acts 9. Once a fierce persecutor of the church, Saul is completely changed when he encounters Jesus on the road to Damascus. But his transformation isn't just about him—God also calls Ananias, a faithful but hesitant disciple, to step out in bold obedience and bring healing to Saul. This message challenges us to trust God's plan, step past fear, and be faithful messengers of the gospel, because even the smallest act of obedience can have a massive kingdom impact.
In this episode of the City Rev Life Podcast, Angelica Barros sits down with Pastors Josh Slautterback and Craig Stephens to explore the often-asked question: What does the church do with the money it receives? They break down how tithes and offerings are used to support ministry efforts, community outreach, global missions, and operational needs. Whether you're curious about stewardship or seeking to deepen your understanding of generosity in the church, this conversation sheds light on the impact of faithful giving and how it furthers God's work.

In “Waiting on God, Part 2: When God Says No,” Pastor Craig Stephens dives into the tough reality of hearing “no” from God and how it challenges our faith. Through stories like Moses striking the rock in disobedience and the Israelites' wilderness journey, he reminds us that God's “no” often redirects our hope to something greater—Heaven. Pastor Craig weaves personal anecdotes, biblical lessons, and the story of Moses at the Transfiguration to show how God's plans are always better, even when they don't align with ours. It's a message of trust, patience, and keeping an eternal perspective.
