What's the difference between an intrapreneur and an entrepreneur? Intrapreneurs change organizations from within (entrepreneurs disrupt industries from the outside). You might be an intrapreneur in your organization if you're a disruptor, an advocate for change, challenge the status quo, or say the things that other people are afraid to say…and do it in a way that gets attention and people listen. In this episode with Nancy Murphy, we're talking about how to make change, communicate effectively, influence, gain credibility, and how all of that leads to shifts in companies and industries from the inside out. Nancy's spent her career saying what others are afraid to – and learning to say it in ways that others will listen. In this episode, Jordan and Nancy Murphy discuss: Paradox in leadership Identifying the artifacts of the previous culture The 4 influence styles The unsung heroes of organizational change Key Takeaways Starting change with grand gestures and proclamations is easy but small sustained actions are needed to make change stick Leadership means to trust and inspire people, not command and control them. If we really want to inspire people then we also need a concrete plan to show them how we'll get there. Also, keep people accountable. In order to be an effective change leader, you need to make use of all the different influence styles at the right times Wrap data, facts, and figures into stories that bring them to life in order to make meaning out of them. Intrapreneurs, as opposed to entrepreneurs, also have an entrepreneurial, innovative, disruptor mindset but they are changing organizations and systems from within. They are the unsung heroes of organizational change. “ If we can't get people to change, we can't get organizations to change. People need to be led, not managed.” — Nancy Murphy Click on this link to subscribe to IN-Genius, in which you'll receive a new actionable tip or tool in your inbox each week: https://csrcommunications.com/weekly Connect with Nancy Murphy: Website: https://www.csrcommunications.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nancyamurphy/ Connect with Jordan: For executives wanting a complimentary executive coaching conversation: jordan@jordangoldrich.com Website: www.workplacewarriorinc.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordangoldrich1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jordan.goldrich Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordangoldrich/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jgoldrich/

Great conversation with Nancy Murphy about how leaders can truly drive change and influence their organizations. Some of the takeaways: Empathy is one of the best tools to influence and instead of resisting, trying to see the world through others eyes and having compassion could help drive change faster People resistance to change could be used creatively to make it happen. It is an energy which should be channeled in the right way. Organizations need to nurture intrapreneurs which are the hidden soldiers who can make change happen. For a change to be a success, we need to move away from thinking that making a big announcement would make it happen. We need to be committed to the vision of it but flexible to the approach to make it happen. We don't need a title to lead. We can influence and drive positive change wherever we are in the organization. These and many more we covered in this episode. We hope you will find valuable. Nancy Murphy has spent her career saying what others are afraid to say in ways that people will listen. As the Coronavirus Pandemic catapulted us into a fast-changing world, it became imperative to embrace change as your best friend. As founder and president of CSR Communications, she teaches leaders how to influence and persuade others so they can realize their vision for change faster, with less frustration and resistance. Today we talk about intrapreneurship, how to make a company more nimble, and how to leverage change for the best.
Change. Whether you like it or not, it's the topic of the day. 2020 punched all of us in the face with COVID-19, economic turmoil, and racial unrest across the country. And that's just the change that many of us didn't initiate. Countless other change initiatives were launched and undertaken for one reason or another by organizations of all shapes and sizes. But at the end of the day, one thing is crystal clear. Change is now a constant in all of our lives. So how do we lead well through constant change? What is the difference between managing change and leading through change? How can we as leaders use the process of change to bring about positive impact in our organizations and in the lives of those we lead? What's the right perspective that a leader needs to bring to a change initiative to help our people thrive in the midst of change? How do we as leaders identify the cultural and institutional roadblocks to change, and what can we do about them? These are the kinds of questions that we grapple with in this great conversation with Nancy Murphy, Founder and President of CSR Communications. This is a great discussion for leaders who are struggling to navigate change with their teams, and even for those leaders who are doing well, but simply want to make sure they're focusing their change efforts for maximum impact.
