Is your business struggling with cash flow, stagnant revenues, or missing profit targets at the end of the quarter? If so, the hard truth is that your follow-up game is likely weak, and it is directly messing with your money. On the latest episode of the show, we tackled the common "sins" of sales communication and how to transform your approach from a "bother" into a professional "follow-through." Here is the breakdown of how to stop chasing and start advancing.1. Stop "Following Up" and Start "Following Through"In traditional sales and business development, we make a critical distinction: we don't just "follow up"—we follow through. * Following Up is what most Nigerian vendors do. It's a "pointless buzz." It's calling to say, "Bros, how far?," "Happy New Month," or "I just wan greet you." There is no agenda, and your prospect is left wondering why you are wasting their time. * Following Through is what happens when you have a specific item on the agenda that you both mutually agreed upon during your last conversation. The goal of every interaction is to secure an advancement. For example, if you send a proposal for a house cleaning service, don't just say "we'll be in touch." Instead, ask: "Madam, most of my customers take 4 to 5 days to consider this. Can I call you on Wednesday the 5th to see which package you prefer?"When you call on that agreed date, you aren't being a pest—you are simply following through on a commitment you both made.2. The Sin of the "Multi-Pronged Message"One of the biggest mistakes I see on WhatsApp and email is the multi-pronged message—a single message stuffed with four, five, or six different points. When you send a message containing items A, B, C, D, and E, the recipient doesn't know which one to respond to. Most people will just skim or scan the text, and your most important details will get lost. Instead of one "unwieldy" message, you should aim for one key theme per message. Think of your communication as a "salvo"—a sequence of shorter, smaller messages that prompt a back-and-forth conversation.3. Ditch the "Circle Back" and Corporate JargonBecause many of us listen to foreign podcasts, we've started using expressions like "circle back." In Nigeria, "circle back" doesn't mean anything to most people; it's just fancy fluff. Use the local equivalent instead. The same applies to "fake pleasantries." If you didn't ask about someone's family or spouse when you met them, don't start your business message with "How is the wife and kids?" It feels insincere. It is perfectly okay to greet them, state the prior context of your last conversation, and get straight to your intention.4. The Golden Rule: The Question MarkIf you struggle with the concept of a "Call to Action" (CTA), here is a simple rule to live by: Never send a message that doesn't end in a question mark.Every single message you send should be designed to move the conversation forward. If you want a response, you must ask for one. Instead of saying, "I'm reaching out to circle back concerning the meeting," try: "Regarding our agenda from last week, any developments with the CFO?" It's short, clear, and ends with a specific prompt for the recipient to reply to.Let's Fix Your Sales Process"I go buzz you" or "We'll be in touch" are sweet-sounding phrases that amount to zero in terms of revenue. Real sales happen when you are clear, specific, and professional. If you need me to look at your specific circumstances, I am offering a 15-minute sales audit for your business. You can also join my WhatsApp channel for more tips like these. To get started, just send a message to 080 6466 2140Stop buzzing and start closing. I'll catch you on the next episode!

Passive aggressive behavior is one of the most common—and most maddening—dynamics in high conflict situations. In this episode, Bill Eddy and Megan Hunter of the High Conflict Institute reframe passive aggression as what it really is: aggression with built-in deniability. They walk through how to recognize it at home and at work, how to set limits on behavior that's designed to evade accountability, and how the “it's not about me” mindset gives you the emotional footing to respond effectively. Whether you're dealing with a co-worker who “forgets” every commitment or a relationship where nothing is ever directly addressed, this episode gives you a practical framework for protecting your peace.Resources from this episode:5 Types of People Who Can Ruin Your LifeDating RadarConflict Influencer ClassManaging High-Conflict Behaviour in the Workplace Training (April 23, 2026)Submit Questions | Full Show Notes | Bookstore | WebsiteWatch this episode on YouTube!Important Notice: Our discussions focus on behavioral patterns rather than diagnoses. Send us a textWant more respect, momentum, and opportunities without waiting on talent or perfect timing? We go straight at the quiet truth: consistent, unglamorous effort is the edge that most people overlook. From showing up early to following up fast, we unpack the small behaviors that build trust, compound into reputation capital, and create real leverage in your work, health, and relationships. We start by reframing what stands out in any room: not flashy skill, but reliability. You'll hear practical ways to make effort concrete—arrive early, learn and use names, return messages promptly, and research solutions before someone asks. We dig into why starting is easy and staying is hard, and how boredom becomes the test that separates average from exceptional. If you've ever lost steam when the novelty wore off, this conversation gives you the systems to keep going. The heart of the episode is integrity under pressure. We talk about earning your own respect by doing what you said you would do, even when you're tired, busy, or over it. You'll learn how to replace motivation with a daily architecture of non-negotiables: plan tomorrow's three to five needle-moving tasks today, then execute no matter how you feel. We challenge the myth of the “right time,” make the case for starting before January, and explain how consistent follow-through turns into opportunity and trust. If you're ready to outwork your past self and build habits that last, press play, write down your three tasks, and start today. Welcome to the MAKES SENSE podcast, where we apply the science, art and philosophy of sense making to the things that make you go Hmmm? Those most pressing thoughts and discussions going on in our minds today. The Makes Sense Podcast is an expense free service with the intention of helping you execute on the concept of changing the way you look at things, so that the things you look at begin to change.  Today we'll MAKE SENSE of GROWTH - To seek or not to seek? That is the question. The intention of this episode is to arm and equip you with the basic understanding of the challenges we face as humans to grow and acquire our goals and dreams. We will also provide easy to follow action steps and strategies to begin leveraging a better life experience for you and those you love. Contact: Dr. JC Doornick - https://zez.am/makessense SHOW NOTES: A great next discussion and next step after last week's episode on brain awareness perception and learning about our amazing sense making machines. Why is this topic relevant as a logical next step? Well, once we awaken to how our sense making machine works and begin to identify the things that hold us back? We can decide at any time that we will begin the process of reclaiming control as the shot callers in our lives? There is a crucial next step. This being making a quality decision to go after something, no matter what?  No matter what? Why is this important? To characterize and label your decisions to do something or go somewhere no matter what? Because it's not an easy thing to take a made up mind and request it move in a different way. I like to use an analogy of an oil tanker. An oil tanker ship weighs somewhere between 80,000 and 120,000 deadweight tons and steam ahead at a clip of about 20-25 mph. Imagine what it would take to turn that sucker around in the other direction? It would take some time, no? Lets just say that would be an easy and doable task compared to that of turning the oil tanker in your cranial vault. Why? Well imagine if you go to the captain of the ship and make a request to change course and he says “No!” and further explains that the course he has selected is the course that he has taken successfully for the past 30 years. It is the safest and most effective course and he refuses to allow anything else. Now you have another step before you even begin the process of the course correction. You now have to somehow convince the captain to even consider the change against his will. He's very dedicated to his job and takes pride in his 30 year record of getting his ship there on time. Who is the captain in your mind? Your ego, and it has every intention of staying the course. Your ego is not your enemy. It's your employee and it is extremely dedicated to you and what you've taught it to do over all these years. Not to mention the fact that you have also taught your ego to not listen to you when you come up with a new idea that contradicts one of the core principles it has been trained to protect. So when you do make a request for change, your ego knows you are just kidding. Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids. Remember that commercial where the rabbit tries to cross the word Kids out on the Trix cereal box and replace it with Rabbit? The kids represent your ego and laugh at the rabbit saying. Silly Rabbit, trix are for kids. Let's talk about this for a bit. What does it mean to make a decision to move in a different direction? Well for one thing it involves risk. What's the risk? When we set our eyes on something we desire that sits in a new place, different from our day to day schedule or regularly scheduled program, it comes with the risk that we may be making the wrong decision. Or that we might fail? Or perhaps that we might succeed and not be able to handle it? However, due to the fact that as humans, we possess one quality that makes us unique amongst most other life forms. As a species, we have been both blessed and cursed with the fact that we know we are gonna die. This brings up a whole different discussion that we will unpack and make sense of in episode six of this podcast where we discuss death and dying. It is actually a fun concept to have and will help you resolve a lot of concepts most people have and allow them to get on with living rather than worry about dying. However, for the case of this episode, because we know we have a limited and unknown resource of time here, it makes the decision to take risks, well lets say risky. But then we somehow shift. We all have the potential to flip the script and reframe any narrative to validate taking that risk. Why is this important? To learn how to move into a place where you are up for the challenge if taking risks? Well first. Risk, discomfort and inconveniently hard work is required for growth. If that's what you seek. Second, there is potentially an even greater risk on the other side of this risk we are contemplating. That being the decision to not take risks. What's the risk of not pushing forward into the sucky nature of the uncomfortable unknown? It carries a 100% percent guarantee of “no growth”. Without risk, without facing fears, accepting challenges and doing hard things, there is no growth.  As I always say, “isn't it mysterious how the universe and god have placed everything we desire in life, inconveniently on the other side of a big pile of shit? So what does this mean? It means we must become shit navigators if we want to grow and win. We must learn to move through it, under it, over it or around it. In fact we must often come to realize the shit isn't even real and only a figment of imagination and mirage that was created by our programmed minds. I contend that there is a version of you that not only has the ability to navigate through the suck, but one that has no second thought to it and one that almost enjoys it because you are connected more so with what's on the other side of the challenge rather than focused on the challenge. This is an important awakening and power move to make before we go any further in this series. Important because we are gonna discuss some wonderful breakthroughs that can place you in the fast lane towards your dream life. But they will require action beyond the breakthrough. To move from the jacuzzi experience of learning and acknowledging the breakthrough to that pivotal experience where you actually take action. Remember this. Learning is nothing more than a distraction, in the absence of action. Wanna know the secret? The secret to making these hard decisions and taking radical action and accepting the risk with no second guessing or doubt and no quit and 100% follow through? Let's shift our consciousness. I call this example THE AIR Come with me for a few minutes here. Lets envision that you and I were in a pool and all of a sudden i take your head and push it under water. Feeling that I mean business, at that moment, what is your goal and greatest desire? AIR. To breathe right? So you make an attempt to wiggle free but then realize that i am really strong and you can't break free? Does your urgency for the air get bigger or smaller? Bigger right? What are you now willing to do to break free and get that AIR? Anything and everything at the risk of dying. In this scenario, did you even for a second think about the risks associated with trying hard? Or did you second guess yourself and ponder whether this was the right time, or whether you were the right person for the job? Did you have any concerns that you would waste your time trying and contemplate just rolling over and dying? NO! Why use this example? Because you just flipped a switch and reframed the narrative of the shit that sits in between you and everything you desire in life. Its not the challenge, the hard work or your motivation, self belief or timing that gets you there. It's what's on the other side that determines whether or not you will engage in the work and follow through. So before we move on to the next episodes where we make sense of potential breakthroughs and strategies to become the dominant creator of your reality, I recommend you start getting to know what you actually want in life and why you want it. If it is as important to you as the AIR when your head is under water? Then you need no assistance in how to get it, only some concepts and tools to make it not easy but easier. Other wise, this podcast and the awesome stuff coming your way will just help you create the illusion that you are growing by simply knowing more stuff. One of my great mentors, Dan Bell always reminded me of the 11th commandment. Did you know there were 11 commandments? It reads like this. Thou shall not kid thyself.  Welcome to the dance floor and arena of play friends. Remember, if you learned something today, give it away. That's how it will stay. We hope you will help us share this podcast with the world.

I want to hear your voice and amplify what you're doing. We have the opportunity to shift the narrative internally and create a culture of trust, where everyone's opinions are valued and heard. - Tim Dyck There is so much to celebrate when you get a promotion that it is easy to overlook one big transition; shifting from peer to a trusted supervisor. When accept that promotion start thinking of strategies for transitioning from a peer to a supervisor role. As much as you may hope your collegial relationships will stay the same, there will be some changes. What will you do you do when team members start challenging your authority? Katie and I have a great conversation navigating the complexities of transitioning to a leadership role and the unexpected obstacles that come with it. There are several ways that I have found to be helpful when navigating this challenging shift. One thing that I can never emphasize enough is ongoing, clear, and open communication. That includes recognizing the importance of addressing the changing relationships with peers directly. Scheduling one-on-one meetings with each team member will give an opportunity to have open and transparent conversations. Use that time to acknowledge the new responsibilities while expressing a commitment to support and help individuals in their professional development. The goal is not to assert authority or power. Another key to building trust when shifting from peer to supervisor is asking questions and actively listening to the perspectives of team members. By asking about their roles, achievements, and areas for improvement, leaders can show genuine interest and value their input. An event better way to build trust than listening is following through on feedback. This demonstrates that their opinions matter by implementing changes whenever appropriate., If you're currently transitioning into a supervisor role, this conversation is a goldmine of practical strategies and tips to help you navigate this process successfully. By learning the importance of clear communication, active listening, and follow-through, you can build trust and create a positive work culture within your team. The Christmas season is full of stories and traditions. This episode begins with some facts about Christmas you may have never heard before. For example, ever wonder why we use the term Noel at Christmas? Did you ever wonder what Christmas decorations are edible? Listen to discover the answers to these questions and get other fascinating Christmas information that will be fun to share. (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/50-things-yule-never-know-653613)  I am sure you have the best of intentions. Yet, intentions are not enough. Very often people fail to follow through and act on their good intentions. Why is that? If you tell yourself you are going to do something, why don't you just do it? Well, there is a good reason why and here to discuss it is Steve Levinson, clinical psychologist, inventor, entrepreneur and internationally recognized authority on the topic of following through. He is the author of a couple of books including Following Through (https://amzn.to/36rIldU).  Your brain is the control center of your entire body. The brain does so many wonderful things and works in ways you probably don't realize. Joining me to discuss how your brain functions and ways you can help it function even better is neuroscientist Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett. She is a professor at Northeastern University, Chief Science Officer for the Center for Law, Brain & Behavior at Harvard University and author of the book Seven and a Half Lessons About the Brain (https://amzn.to/2JJecxK). Warming your car up on a cold morning before you drive it seems like a good idea. But is it really? If your car battery dies and needs a jump, how long does it take to fully charge it. Listen as I answer some important questions every car owner needs to know.(https://www.motorbiscuit.com/do-you-really-need-to-warm-up-your-car/ ) PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! Part Three: How To Follow Through With Boundaries Setting boundaries and following through to ensure your family and friends respect them can take a lot of time and communication to work. It also calls for a lot of patience, understanding, and maturity to straighten things up. People we love and care about will step into our boundaries from time to time. But gently restoring them to the right place will help us set a positive tone and a safe space for communication. Without communication, we are likely to build resentment and anger, which can result in anger and relationship breakdown. Spending time with God and staying rooted in the word can help us communicate with others with self-control, gentleness, kindness, patience, and love to build healthy relationships.   Join today's Therapy Thursday conversation with me, Lisa, and my friend Lidia Martinez as we talk about setting boundaries, what the scripture says, and how to follow through after setting boundaries to get the people you love to respect them to build strong and healthy relationships.  Tune in!   In This Episode, You Will Learn About:  [00:00] Introduction to the show  [00:26] Today's focus: Part 3; Following Through WithBoundaries [01:25] Why communication matters in setting boundaries  [04:16] Being assertive and getting back at someone at theright time [05:59] How Jesus lays out the boundaries in the scripture  [07:32] Peter and why he is a great example to look at when setting boundaries  [08:52] Keeping short accounts when building healthy relationships  [11:36] How to set a positive tone and create a safe space in your marriage  [13:29] Gently restoring people who step into our boundaries  [16:44] Galatians 6:1-10; the scriptural blueprint on how to correct others  [21:02] How to restore relationships when it involves your children  [24:11] Practicing undeserved forgiveness in difficult situations  [25:50] Don't be like a door; find your strength and let go  [27:53] Getting help from a Christian counselor in your journey  [30:27] Practicing compassion and empathy with other people  [31:45] Quick recap and key nuggets from the show  [34:03] Lessons from a story on how kindness can change your relationship  [35:57] Using the fruits of the Holy Spirit as tools to communicate with others [37:20] Seeking professional help and Dr. Lidia four free session  [38:50] Ending the show with a word of prayer       Notable Quotes:  ● When a seed of hurt and anger in a relationship is fed, it turns to hatred  ● We cannot be led by our emotions, they are fleeting, and they come and go; we need to have a strong foundation in Christ. ● Forgiveness is not about the other person; it's about you, opening and softening up your heart to have better relationships.  ● Healing does not mean that the damage never existed; it means the damage no longer controls your life.  ● You never know how strong you are until you forgive somebody who was never sorry and accepts an apology you will never receive ● Allowing hurt in your heart is expressing unforgiveness, so let it go.    Follow Faith with Friends on Website: https://faith-with-friends.captivate.fm/ (https://faith-with-friends.captivate.fm/) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/faithwithfriends_podcast/ (https://www.instagram.com/faithwithfriends_podcast/)   Let's Connect! Kristen Mortensen became the first female president of the Salt Lake Home Builders Association shortly before the housing crash in 2008. Now, she's a partner in Goldcrest Homes and is coming up on having worked on 1000 homes. Goldcrest Homes has a passion for building with women in mind, as women are driving 80% of home sales and are typically managing the house day-to-day. In this episode, she talks about her experience as a woman in a male-dominated industry and Goldcrest Homes' showcase for the Parade of Homes. A Nest With Surprises The Goldcrest Homes' showcase for the Parade of Homes is called "The Lofty Nest." Kristen describes it as a comfortable, fun house, a nest with some surprises.' The two-story house has high ceilings, a loft study area, and an ordinance-compliant accessory dwelling unit in the basement, which allows leasing of the bottom one-bedroom apartment, a highly sought-after feature. Listen in to learn more about Goldcrest Homes, their current and upcoming communities in Utah, and more features of "The Lofty Nest." Following Through as a Contractor in Utah Kristen was always intrigued by the home-building process and inquired about how to enter the industry in college. She was encouraged to become a teacher, which she did until she had an opportunity to finish a house. Kristen found out there was no magic to the process; it took hard work, following through, and planning. Kristen recounts that she never felt intimidated as a woman in general contracting and that the tradespeople she's worked with over the years have been welcoming. She knows a little about many things, having learned from plumbers, electricians, roofers, and more. She's glad to see that women can now go to school for construction management and that more women are finding careers in construction. Utah Building With Women in Mind Goldcrest Homes' goal is to help "build a lovely nest for your flock." The company has a passion for building with women in mind, as statistics show that women drive 80% of home sales. Typically, women are more concerned with family planning, upgrading, and house management. As a company, they pay attention to a home's exterior curb appeal and practical interior use. Building a place that is functional as well as attractive is one of Goldcrest's top qualities. The post The Lofty Nest | Salt Lake Parade of Homes appeared first on Utah Real Estate Podcast.
