J. Edgar Hoover was a legendarily paranoid man -- but what if there was a reason for his intense, myopic obsession with surveillance and privacy? How about this: Did you ever wonder why the guys have done so many episodes about satellites and space fungus recentlly? In tonight's special episode, the guys present an episode from The Passage, a new podcast that takes you on a ride into the land of the dead, traveling with the Ferryman as he collects America's most illustrious spirits and delivers them to the hereafter. This episode -- Hoover's Confession -- was written by Ben and executive produced by Matt. We hope it keeps you up at night. They don't want you to read our book.: https://static.macmillan.com/static/fib/stuff-you-should-read/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Series Premiere. July 14, 1881. Fort Sumner, New Mexico Territory. In the inaugural episode of The Passage, the Ferryman of souls, voiced by Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, The Walking Dead), encounters a spirit as wild and untamed as the land he once roamed. Billy The Kid, voiced by Scott Haze (Child of God / Jurassic World Dominion), the most notorious outlaw of the American West, mounts his own spectral horse for his journey to what comes next. His eyes are tired but still burn with the fire of youth and rebellion. Billy's tale begins in the dusty, sun-scorched plains of a nation finding its footing. America, in its own adolescence, is a land of unyielding contradictions—of sprawling beauty and brutal violence, of lofty ideals and base desires. It is within this crucible that Billy's story unfolds, a narrative etched into the very fabric of the American mythos. As the Ferryman guides Billy along, he recounts his life, a journey marked by abandonment and blazing guns; fleeting loyalties, and a relentless pursuit by the forces of law and order. Through his eyes, listeners are transported to a time where justice is a precarious, often elusive ideal, and power is seized by those bold enough to claim it. Was Billy the Kid a hero, a defender of the downtrodden, fighting against the corrupt and powerful elites that sought to tame the wild spirit of the West? Or was he a villain, a bloodthirsty outlaw emblematic of the lawlessness and moral decay that threatened to consume the frontier? As they ride through the mists of time and truth, the Ferryman listens, and Billy's story, like the man himself, is a paradox—a tapestry of courage and cruelty, freedom and fate, woven into the tumultuous tapestry of a nation coming of age. In this episode of The Passage, listeners will be compelled to confront these questions, to gaze into the abyss of America's soul and ponder the legacy of one of its most enigmatic figures. Join us for a journey into the heart of darkness and light, where history and legend collide, and the truth is as elusive as a ghost on the horizon. In this episode of the What's Happening QC podcast, host Marc Zyla sits down with Dan Bush from Bummer City Inc, the company behind several businesses in the Quad Cities. They dive into the annual Christmas pop-up event happening at Analog Pizza and Arcade in Moline. With over 40,000 lights, nearly 2,000 feet of tinsel, and an array of inflatable decorations, this event has become a staple in the community during the holiday season. Dan shares how the event started as a way to bring people together safely after the COVID pandemic and how it has grown in popularity each year.
Dan Bush from Bummer City Inc. is an entrepreneur with a passion for improving the quality of life and place in the Quad Cities. The owner of multiple businesses, Dan says he tries to create spaces that are more than just bars, but are hangouts. Analog Arcade Bar, being one, is just as it sounds. A bar and an arcade. It brings together the nostalgia of childhood video gaming while fostering a place for adults to gather, have a drink, and destress with some carefree fun. Dan has created a guide called "Look QC" to offer an insider perspective on what makes the QC go round. Those are available at all Bummer City Inc. businesses: Armored Gardens, Devon's Complaint Department, and each Analog location, as well as inside the Black Hawk Hotel.

Police roadside searches of vehicles just became more difficult for law enforcement in Pennsylvania. On December 22, 2020, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court handed proponents of individual privacy rights a major victory when it narrowed the right of law enforcement to conduct roadside searches of automobiles in Pennsylvania. In Commonwealth v. Alexander, the Court held that warrantless vehicle searches require BOTH probable cause and exigent circumstances and that law enforcement may no longer rely on the inherent mobility of a vehicle (recognized under federal law) as an exigent circumstance to permit warrantless searches based on probable cause. Now, where law enforcement only has probable cause to search a roadside vehicle, and no exigent circumstances are present, a search warrant must be secured. Director Dan Bush came to prominence in 2007 with his segment of the film, THE SIGNAL, a movie that somewhat a zombie film and somewhat science fiction. The movie itself was a collaboration with two other directors where he helmed one of the three parts. Afterwards, though prolific enough since, nothing was as prominent as that film. Now in 2020, he returns with a movie that is getting a bit of buzz entitled THE DARK RED. Sybil Warren (April Billingsley) is a troubled woman who's mother died while she was young and her eventual caregiver tragicly passed as well. Landing in a sanitarium, she discusses with a psychiatrist how a group of cultists had stolen her baby and that there is a mysterious power that they possess. After eventually agreeing her tale is preposterous, she is released and decides to find out the truth. THE DARK RED was co-written by Dan Bush and Conal Byrne and stars April Billingsley in a strong performance. The movie played for two years on the festival circuit before finally arriving on VOD in 2020 to fairly good reviews. Dark Discussions takes a look at this thriller and gives their thoughts.

Matty P Radio Presents: Marks v. Pros & Saturday Morning Cereal
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week, the world ends so let’s talk about all the good things we can do when you are living in a bunker and all you’ve got is your favorite streaming service to save you from uncertain doom! We start the episode off by talking about three cult classic movies to revisit or finally catch up on. Then things get dark... Has someone ever asked you if you’ve seen a famous movie and just to avoid an awkward conversation you lie and say yes? Why are we even asking, of course you have you lying weasel. Everyone has. But this lockdown finally gives you a chance to right the wrongs! Finally turn that shameful lie into a half truth and watch that movie that you reference all the time anyway, f*ckin poser. We also talk all things movies with writer/director Dan Bush (The Signal, The Vault), including his own “stay home and watch” movie, The Dark Red, available NOW on your couch via Prime Video. So don't go to bars or theaters, just poor yourself a stiff one and listen to three dudes deal with a pandemic in the only way they can. Join Grim Shea, Marke and Johnny Heck as they drink rum & Cokes and offer up some watchlist suggestions, plus they come clean about their own lies!
