It's a WAYLT Crossover week as Jenn joined Matt Sidhom on the Super Awesome Mix podcast last week to trade picks that connect by title, lyric, and mood with the focus on the words 'may' or 'might'. We start with the Bee Gees in their pre-disco glow, then jump to Led Zeppelin and the “May Queen” line that still feels like a life lesson about choices and changing course. From there, we test a common music debate: is “new country” actually bad, or did a certain pop-country era poison the well? Zach Bryan's “Fifth of May” becomes the case study for modern country songwriting that feels specific, honest, and lived-in. The ride keeps swerving in the best way. We talk Bruno Mars as a talent machine, Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska era grit, and the hidden story inside the Goo Goo Dolls' “Slide” when you actually listen to the lyrics. Then it's The Cars, They Might Be Giants, and Metallica in a sequence that proves a good mix can handle whiplash if the theme is strong. We even slow down for “It Might Be You” and a real question about Tootsie, comedy, and whether nuance survives modern pop culture.  https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/may-might-songs/pl.u-4kK9uRm05vFirst of May - Bee GeesStairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin Fifth of May - Zach Bryan I Just Might - Bruno MarsAtlantic City - Bruce SpringsteenSlide - The Goo Goo Dolls You Might Think - The Cars Birdhouse In Your Soul - They Might Be Giants Wherever I May Roam - Metallica It Might Be You - Stephen Bishop I May Be Used (But Baby I Aint Used Up) - Waylon Jennings May Ninth - Khruangbin

Matt and Sam are back with new music for the month of April! We start in bright, timeless territory with Bruno Mars and a throwback pop approach that feels built for wedding dance floors, then slam the door into heavier energy with Muse leaning into hard rock and metal textures. From there, we dig into Fantastic Cat's sharp songwriting, where a simple hook hides surprisingly dark, observant lines about how we package history and tragedy. Moby shows up with a dance track that's louder than an old mall store and stickier than it first appears, and Jack White reminds us why great guitar tone and fearless rhythm still matter in modern rock.A big takeaway comes from The Temper Trap: playlist sequencing changes your experience. Put a lower-energy track in the wrong spot and it can feel like a full brake, even when it's a great song. We also geek out over Raye's musical-style album storytelling, the dark EDM chemistry of Boys Noize teaming with Nine Inch Nails, and Snoop Dogg's effortless “strut mix” confidence. Then there's Lana Del Rey delivering a Bond-worthy theme for a new James Bond video game, plus an EDM closer from Afrojack, Sia, and David Guetta that feels like a momentum switch flipping on. We wrap with Rosalia and the reminder that translating lyrics can reveal a whole second song hiding inside the beat. Dance with Me - Bruno Mars Unraveling - MuseElevator - Fantastic Cat Everytime You Touch Me - Moby and BOOO!G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs - Jack WhiteSungazer - The Temper TrapThe WhatsApp Shakespeare - RAYECame Back Haunted - Nine Inch Nails & Boys NoiszStep - Snoop Dogg featuring Swizz BeatzFirst Light - Lana Del ReyAwake Tonight - AFROJACK, Sia & David GuettaFocu ‘Ranni - RosaliaGo to My.SuperAwesomeMix.com and start using our new app on any device - mobile or laptop.  Copy and paste a link to your playlist then turn it into an old school mixtape in minutes!  Support the showVisit us at https://www.superawesomemix.com to learn more about our app, our merchandise, our cards, and more!

Spring shows up and suddenly the release calendar explodes, so Matt and Sam do what we always do on Super Awesome Mix: sift through the chaos and hand you a March new music playlist that's actually worth your time. We start with U2's “Yours Eternally,” a collaboration that pulls in Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian artist Taras Topolia and frames a protest minded moment with an unexpectedly hopeful finish. From there we jump into Death Cab for Cutie's “Riptides,” a track that captures modern burnout in one chorus, then test the line between country and pop with Megan Moroney and Sheeran. The mix keeps pivoting: Charlotte Sands brings a hard rock jolt, King Tuff turns time into a hook you'll quote all week, and Blackpink proves again how effortlessly K-pop can play as mainstream pop and hip hop.On the rap and rock side, we dig into Killer Mike's soundtrack cut and the idea that honesty beats a friendly facade, then crank up The Pretty Reckless, Freddie Gibbs with DJ Paul (adult ears only), and Sevendust's “Unbreakable” for anyone who needs a little volume to get through the day. We close with Bleachers pushing back against outside noise and a Mumford and Sons collaboration with Chris Stapleton that somehow feels both simple and huge.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-march-2026-new-music/pl.u-z2pvuGxoYJ1. It's another WAYLT Crossover, this time with Super Awesome Mix's Intro to Steview Wonder!Dive into the musical journey of a true American legend as Matt and Sam explore the extraordinary career of Stevie Wonder. From his groundbreaking beginnings as "Little Stevie Wonder" at Motown Records to his status as one of music's most influential figures, this episode celebrates the artist who transformed popular music across six decades.  The hosts trace Wonder's remarkable evolution through twelve essential tracks, highlighting how a blind child prodigy who signed with Motown at age 11 went on to become the youngest artist ever to top the Billboard charts at just 13 years old. Through early hits like "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" and "I Was Made to Love Her," listeners experience the joyful exuberance that first captivated audiences in the 1960s.  The conversation shifts to Wonder's revolutionary 1970s period when he achieved the unprecedented feat of winning three consecutive Grammy Awards for Album of the Year. Matt and Sam analyze how songs like "Superstition" and "Boogie On Reggae Woman" showcased his innovative fusion of funk, soul, and synthesizer technologies that somehow never sound dated despite their era.  The hosts don't shy away from Wonder's 1980s commercial peak, discussing how tracks like "I Just Called to Say I Love You" brought him Oscar gold and global recognition, while "Happy Birthday" actually helped establish Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national holiday. Throughout the episode, Matt and Sam highlight Wonder's extraordinary musical versatility, his philanthropic impact, and the timeless quality that makes his music resonate across generations.  Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering Stevie Wonder for the first time, this episode offers a perfect introduction to an artist whose 26 studio albums and numerous accolades (including the Presidential Medal of Freedom) only begin to tell the story of his profound influence on American music and culture.  Check out our videos on YouTube and follow us on Instagram and Threads @SuperAwesomeMix for more musical deep dives!https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-intro-to-stevie-wonder/pl.u-y0pmTbq4xE1. While Jenn's on break, you get to enjoy some of the best from the Super Awesome Mix podcast network, this week it's the from the Super Awesome Mix podcast where they put together a mix featuring songs with the word 'Fall' in it, just in time for that season this past year. What happens when you search for songs with the word "fall" in the title? A musical journey spanning decades, genres, and emotions that will surprise you at every turn.  Matt Sidhom and Sam Abousalbi dive deep into twelve tracks united only by a single word, uncovering fascinating stories behind each song. Did you know Tom Petty's iconic "Free Fallin'" was initially rejected by producers, only to be accepted unchanged six months later? Or that Post Malone's heartbreak anthem "I Fall Apart" transforms completely when remixed for spin classes?  The mix weaves through Kenny Chesney's nostalgic football tribute, Maggie Rogers' metaphorical "Falling Water," and the pure vocal harmonies of Shai's acapella "If I Ever Fall In Love." We explore the emotional weight of "Falling Slowly" from the Oscar-winning film Once, the edgy punk-infused sound of Weezer's "Falling For You," and the soaring hopefulness of Chloe and Halle's "Fall."  Each song reveals something unique about how artists interpret the concept of falling – whether it's falling in love, falling apart, or simply embracing the fall season. The conversations highlight how a single word can connect vastly different musical expressions while exposing the hosts' genuine passion for musical discovery.  Follow us @superawesomemix on Instagram and Threads, and check out our videos on YouTube to continue the conversation about your favorite "fall" songs!https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-fall-playlist/pl.u-XmgpfXZ0qz1. Jenn is prepping for his last couple of episodes of season 7 so we're putting a recent episode of Super Awesome Mix on the feed this week.  The focus is on gratitude and in particular, songs that feature the words 'Thank You'.  We kick off with Sly's Thank You and the relief of being yourself again, then trace how Dido's gentle melody got flipped into Eminem's Stan without erasing its original warmth. Andrew Gold's Thank You for Being a Friend sparks a riff on friendship rituals, party etiquette, and why the Golden Girls hook lives rent-free in our heads. DJ Khaled and Big Sean bring gratitude to ambition, reminding us that success without appreciation rings hollow. Boyz II Men drop us into a 90s harmony cocoon, proving that a simple refrain can feel like community.  The mix widens with Logic's Thank You, closing on real fan voicemails from around the globe—a living map of music's connective tissue. Alanis Morissette's Thank U honors letting go and landing; Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre rework Sly's groove into a modern head-nod; Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats turn repetition into affirmation. Diana Ross glows with a love that adds to an already good life, pushing back on the myth that gratitude only comes from struggle. It's new music for the month of October!  Jenn Tully fills in for Sam again this month alongside Matt Sidhom.  Together they built a mix that moves from David Byrne's question-rich groove with Ghost Train Orchestra and Hayley Williams to Florence and the Machine's roof-raising declaration of ambition, with plenty of discoveries and nostalgic detours in between. We kick off with What Is the Reason for It, a horn-lit, cinematic opener that doubles as a meditation on love's contradictions. From there, we bend time: Oasis reenters the chat via Don't Look Back in Anger and the 30th anniversary of What's the Story (Morning Glory), a reminder that remasters can be the best kind of rediscovery. Cold War Kids deliver a standout with Hyperempathy—maybe the most accurate song about a long-term couple's fight—before Electric Guest lifts the room with Play Your Guitar and its bassline-as-elevation. We even throw a glam-pop curveball with Foxy Shazam's You Know My Name featuring Corey Feldman, a surprisingly joyful MJ-inspired romp. The middle stretch balances comeback warmth and clever wordplay: Yellowcard's Better Days revisits the hooky honesty that made Ocean Avenue timeless, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise stitches fast-twitch lyrics to an easy, elastic groove. For elegant horror, The Last Dinner Party's This Is the Killer Speaking toggles between sinister verses and pop-bright choruses, while Sloan's Dream Destroyer blends 70s glam swagger with modern edge. We also wrestle with art versus artist through The Lemonheads' The Key of Victory, and tip our hat to familiar architecture with Arthur Buck's Fall in Love With Me, a pop-spooky echo of REM instincts with fresh attitude. We close on Florence and the Machine's One of the Greats, a soaring, razor-sharp statement about the cost and confidence of excellence—complete with a pointed critique of industry double standards. https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-new-music-october-2025/pl.u-pm2jidKjlz1. From the moment we hear those first notes blaring through stadium speakers, something magical happens. Baseball's walk-up songs do more than just fill empty space—they transform ordinary at-bats into cinematic moments, creating instant connections between players and fans.Matt and Sam dive into the fascinating world of MLB entrance music, exploring how these brief musical snippets reveal player personalities while energizing crowds. Whether it's Francisco Lindor's unexpected choice of "My Girl" that has entire Mets crowds singing in unison long after the music stops, or the bass-heavy swagger of Aaron Judge's "Swag Surfin'" that signals a potential home run, these musical decisions are carefully calculated for maximum impact. The conversation spans from classic rock anthems like "Layla" (Pete Alonso) and "Whole Lotta Love" (Austin Wells) to contemporary hits from Rihanna and Lil Baby, with each selection offering insight into the player behind it. We even venture into international territory with Korean star Young Hoo Lee's electrifying choice of Supreme Team's "Dang, Dang, Dang."Beyond the music itself, Matt and Sam explore the fascinating superstitions surrounding walk-up songs, including Nick Castellanos's strange reputation for hitting home runs during tragic news broadcasts, and how players often change their music during slumps or hitting streaks. With players getting just 30 seconds to make an impression through sound, every beat counts.Whether you're a baseball die-hard or simply appreciate how music heightens dramatic moments, this episode delivers an entertaining look at the soundtrack of America's pastime. We had a special birthday in the Super Awesome Mix Family recently.  Our own Sam Abousalbi turned 40.  He gave us a special mix for his 40th birthday so we're running it in this feed this week.  Celebrating 40: A Musical Journey of Reflection, Growth, and New BeginningsTurning 40 is more than just a number—it's a celebration of the journey so far and the promise of what's to come. As Sam embraces this milestone birthday, he shares with Matt and the listeners a specially curated music mix that captures the essence of this new chapter. He begins with Logic's "Hallelujah," which echoes the importance of keeping an open mind.  This episode is filled with reflective insights and a touch of laughter. You'll find yourself drawn into Sam's world as he navigates the complexities of aging with inspiration and humor.  What's the secret to living in the moment and letting go of past regrets? Sam explores this question through songs that remind us of the beauty of presence and self-forgiveness. With tracks like The All-American Rejects' "Move Along," Fountains of Wayne's "All Kinds of Time," and Pearl Jam's "Present Tense," you'll uncover powerful messages about savoring the present and embracing life's pace. These songs serve as an anthem for anyone who seeks to balance life's fleeting moments with thoughtful reflection.  As the episode unfolds, Sam delves into the duality of life, highlighting growth and the balance between light and dark. "Let Go" by Frou Frou and Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" inspire us to view life as an open canvas, full of potential and new beginnings. The exploration continues with Moby's "Run On" and Pink Floyd's masterpieces "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse," celebrating the artistry that captures both the light and shadow of the human experience. Artificial intelligence (AI) usage continues to grow, but many educators are still awaiting training on effective use of AI in the classroom. According to a survey from EdWeek, only 43% of educators surveyed had received any training on AI. If you're in the other 57%, or even just looking to learn more about AI and maybe take the fear out of this new technology, we're here to help.  In this episode, we learn from AI expert and CEO, Joshua Wohle. Joshua is CEO at Mindstone, a practical AI training platform for non-technical people, helping them do more and better work, in less time, by using AI in their daily jobs. Previously, Joshua was a co-founder & CPTO at SuperAwesome, which became one of the biggest kids' technology companies in the world before being acquired by Epic Games.   Together we dive into the reason Joshua decided to create Mindstone, and how his team is helping educators get more comfortable with AI technology. We discuss the rapid disruptions caused by generative AI, and how educators can and should use it as a tool in their classrooms. Plus, we learn about new resources to get your feet wet and how to make AI learning fun and low stress. If you're new to AI, or one of the many teachers looking for training about AI in the classroom, this is for you.  Looking for more opportunities to learn about AI? Joshua recommends starting with Ethan Mollik's book, Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI and Stephen M. Kosslyn's book, Active Learning with AI.  Check out Mindstone's tools and resources here: https://www.mindstone.com/.  Learn more about our new Critical Career Skills Generative AI Foundations exam here: https://certiport.pearsonvue.com/Certifications/CCS/Certification/Certify/Generative-AI-Foundations.  Connect with your fellow educators in our CERTIFIED Educator Community here: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/8958289/. This week Mark and Allen break down the Episode where Andy and Ben are knighted! This is an episode that nearly defies description, and is unlike ANY other episode in the entire series ... it truly stands alone. Things get very meta as we actually watch an entire show within a show ... specifically, the final episode of Andy's "Johnny Karate" show! At the start of the show, we learn that Andy ... er, I mean, Johnny Karate ... had his guitar stolen! This is very bad, as this is what he uses to sing both The Welcome Song and The Good-bye Song. With the assistance of Burt Macklin, Carpenter Ron (Ron Swanson), Professor Smartbrain (Ben Wyatt), Mailman Barry (Jerry), Leslie, and a slew of others, Andy (I mean, Johnny Karate) participates in various skits, demonstrates the Five Karate Moves to Success, and goes on a hunt to try and find his stolen guitar, so that he can sing The Goodbye Song and bring his final episode to a successful close. Meanwhile, as all this craziness is happening, we see that April seems somewhat tinged with sadness, which becomes more and more obvious as the show goes on. As always, we tackle the tough questions, such as ... Will Johnny Karate ever get his guitar back? Does Carpenter Ron end up giving Andy a hug? Can Professor Smartbrain find a way to counter the almighty Boring Buzzer? Why is April so sad, and what can Andy do to help? And in general ... what the **** is going on with this episode? Loyal podcast viewers, this might be the very definition of "weird but wonderful". We guarantee it's like nothing you've ever seen before. Are we full of it? Will this show bomb, or will we give it a perfect 10? Stay tuned to find out!
