Bible teacher Edna Blake talks about her years of discipling people organically: a life-on-life walk with others where both sides grow, leading people to Jesus through His word, and how it applies to where they're at. Daniel Darling, author of "Biblical Wisdom for Everyday Life," talks about how to apply Biblical principles to some of the many confusing issues of modern life that aren't directly mentioned in Bible, or are complicated by our modern contexts. A new survey says 48% of Americans feel the fun has disappeared from their lives — and the number one thing they call "fun" is watching more TV. Brian From unpacks what that actually says about how we're living and what we're missing. Then: the Enhanced Games happened in Las Vegas, where athletes competed on cocktails of performance enhancing drugs for prize money up to a million dollars, and it raises some uncomfortable questions about human nature and the lengths we'll go to get ahead. A Wisconsin driver removed a road closed sign, drove into fresh concrete, and became an accidental parable. Daniel Darling's Christianity Today piece on whether Christians should smoke weed — and why most of the same arguments apply to alcohol. The story of missionary Davy Lloyd, who was kidnapped and beaten in Haiti, and still preached Christ's love and forgiveness to the men who would kill him. A deep dive into agentic AI and whether it could replace your pastor — spoiler: it already can write your sermons and call your congregation in your voice. Today On The Eric Metaxas Show, Eric talks with Daniel Darling about his book In Defense Of Christian Patriotism and why Christians do not have to choose between loving God and loving their country. They discuss gratitude, ordered loves, America's founding, civic duty, the dangers of cynicism, and why patriotism is essential if the republic is going to be preserved. We have heard a lot of discussion in the past few years about Christian Nationalism. But for all the talk, the books, and the social media traffic, there's less clarity than ever around the term. But one of the worst outcomes we have seen amidst this talk has been a dismissal of what my guest today, Daniel Darling, calls Christian patriotism. While Dan Darling rejects what is often a virulent and anti-Christian version of Christian Nationalism, he writes in a new book that patriotism isn't optional for Christians. He explains that God himself defines the time and place in which we live and gave us a command to love our neighbors. Loving our country and getting involved in the political, social, cultural, and civic lives of our nation are essential duties. Dan Darling is uniquely qualified to talk about these issues. He is a pastor and the author of several books, including The Dignity Revolution, which is one that had a big impact on me. He currently serves as the director of the Land Center for Cultural Engagement at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is a fellow at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He is also a columnist for WORLD Magazine and a contributor to USA Today. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Until next time, may God bless you.
