Why Are Teens Struggling So Much with Discipline? With Dave Christensen
In part two of our conversation, Dave Christensen opened up about his transition into retirement and his latest venture: the "Your Fourth Down" platform. He explained the ADAPT framework—Attitude, Discipline, Attention to Detail, Perseverance, and Touchdown—and how these principles guide success in sports and life. Hearing his personal stories of perseverance, from his humble beginnings to reaching professional achievements, was incredibly motivating. We also discussed the evolving landscape of college sports, from NIL deals to transfer rules, and how it's changing the game. Dave's dedication to sharing his story and inspiring others through speaking and consulting reminds me why I love what I do—helping others reach their full potential, both on and off the field. On this episode, I had the pleasure of catching up with Dave Christensen, a coach whose journey and impact on the game of football have been truly inspiring. Dave reflected on the importance of structure, discipline, and pushing players out of their comfort zones to help them grow. He also shared some of the major setbacks and sacrifices he's faced in his career, including the bold decision to adopt a spread offense—a move that completely transformed his team's trajectory. These pivotal moments led to some unforgettable wins and personal milestones in his coaching career. Big thanks to our podcast sponsors, Sorinex and EliteForm, for making these episodes possible!
In this episode, Alan and Alex are joined on the show by long time pinball artist Greg Freres, and they discuss Greg's time working in the late 1970s and early 1980s art department at Bally, a truly remarkable time period for pinball art.Greg tells us all about the different processes that revolutionized the industry, working under art director Paul Faris, and the fraternity bond that he shared with Paul, Kevin O'Connor, Margaret Hudsen, Dave Christensen, Tony Ramunni, and Pat McMahon.Greg tells us some great stories from the absolute peak of Bally pinball, and how this rogue's gallery of young artists came in and completely changed the game with their bold and risque illustrative style. Here's a bonus link to Greg's seminar from the Northwest Pinball and Arcade Show that we mention in this episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChCqJVvGlL8

What's the simplest, most effective coverage you can teach? Let's take a look at coaching Cover 3 Coverage in the 4-2-5 Defense. Coaches love to over-complicate things. In a lot of situations, the less complicated answer would be the better one. That's often the case with coverage packages. Aside from trying to run every coverage, many coaches are running a coverage that is much more complicated than necessary. If you're in a league, conference or level where the teams you need to beat are run heavy offenses, Cover 3 coverage might be perfect for you. I'm going to break down how to teach Cover 3 coverage for the 4-2-5 Defense, but the teachings are very similar no matter what defensive front you choose. The Offensive Line takes more attention to details and technique than any other position on the field with the possible exception of Quarterback. Your asking big men to do unnatural things. Players can't just rely on their athleticism. In today's episode of The Football Coaching Podcast, I'm going through the key blocks you will use in a Gap Blocking Scheme. That's plays like Power, Counter, Iso and Trap. This is a detailed look at blocking. Footwork, aiming points, and the upper body. If you want to learn more about Offensive Line play, and every football coach should, I strongly recommend two books: Coaching Offensive Linemen by Dave Christensen and James A. Peterson Complete Offensive Line by Rick Trickett I mentioned that 3 video series on The Pistol Power Offense System. The videos on Power and Counter will show you where I apply these blocks in our System.
