In this episode, host Wil Fulton goes old school and takes a quick road trip without the safety net of his smartphone…. and obviously, inevitably, gets very lost. We also look into pre-Internet travel in general: Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!, Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers) discussing how she planned early tours using the influential punk zine Book Your Own Fucking Life (note: they're selling old copies, here!), modern day travel agent Sarah Fazendin, founder of Videre Travel tells us how the pandemic has actually helped their business model, and AAA breaks down the (still relevant!) benefits of their legendary TripTiks. As broadcast August 26, 2021 with a boatload of room to stretch the legs on the podcast ride.  Tonight we paid tribute to Bobbie Gentry's "Ode To Billie Joe" to start off, which went to #1 on the Billboard charts on this date in 1967 for a four week ride at the top.  More importantly, we finished by double dipping with The Rolling Stones in tribute to drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away earlier this week.  The man was not the flashiest guy on the beat by any stretch nor the most technical, but he was always in the pocket to a tee and did what was required for one of the greatest bands of all time in his own way.  We also release our latest playlist in August's rendition of The Damyang Drop, so we covered the funkier & more soulful joints in part 1 & 2 for our Sampled funk & soul first hour.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Clydie King – Ode to Billie JoeBob & Fred – I'll Be On My WayJungle – Can't Stop The StarsPatti Jo – Make Me Believe In YouRoxy Music – Love Is The Drug (Todd Terje edit)Part II (33:16)Moondog feat Rob Burger – Bird's LamentCamille Yarbrough – Take Yo PraiseHailu Mergia & The Walias – Endegena El Michels Affair – Fazed OutTortoise – A Simple Way To Go Faster Than Light That Does Not WorkWeather Report – River People (Live)Los Porcos – Porc Noise Complaint Part III (69:24)Rolling Stones – Honky Tonk WomenParquet Courts – Walking at a Downtown PaceSame Fender – AyeThe Bronx – Mexican SummerBoston Manor – Carbon MonoDave Hause – Surfboard Part IV (100:19)Royal Blood – Sad But TrueDeviates – WastedThe Copyrights – HalosLaura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers – Apocalypse Now (& Later)Roger Taylor – We're All Just Trying to Get By ft KT TunstallRolling Stones – Gimme Shelter

This week's guest is Atom Willard. Atom played with some of my favorite bands growing up including Rocket From the Crypt, The Offspring, Social Distortion, and Angels and Airwaves, but he is the current drummer for Against Me! and Laura Jane Grace and The Devouring Mothers. As I often do in the days leading up to these chats, I went down a rabbit hole of Atom's drumming and I was blown away by how much of my OWN playing can be attributed to Mr. Willard...like...it's actually embarrassing. This one meant a lot to me and I hope you enjoy my conversation with Atom Willard as he dissects his biggest musical influences that made him into the drummer he is today. Cheers ya'll. To say musician, author and activist Laura Jane Grace has had a defiant career would be the understatement of the year. Whether being accused of leaving the DIY punk scene to pursue a major label career over a decade ago, or courageously challenging people's conceptions of gender identity with a bombshell Rolling Stone article, Grace has remained a daring and influential cultural figure in her over 20+ years of creating dynamic art across various mediums. Sure, she’s bound to worry some fans with her decision to press pause on Against Me! to release a more intimate singer-songwriter leaning solo album under the name Laura Jane Grace & the Devouring Mothers, but her artistic motivation cast her determination in steel.
