Between Midsummer Scream and earnings week, this issue is dense. Disney, Six Flags, and United Parks dropped earnings, and the news is positive overall for our industry. Universal has a strong reputation, but Six Flags now operates the most haunted mazes in the world: 107, added to parks that already have infrastructure and passholders. HHN Hollywood is leaning into independent films where they have more leeway, with an original Slash score, the event's first-ever singing villain, and a twisted children's storybook Terror Tram scored by Ice Nine Kills. In this issue:- Q2 Theme Park Earnings and What They Tell Us About the Consumer- Six Flags Plans 107 Haunted Houses for Halloween 2026- Slash Scored HHN Hollywood's Killceañera House- Art the Clown Takes Over the Terror Tram With "Every Day Is Artmas"- HHN Hollywood Adds Hidden Character From Curry Barker's "Obsession"- The LA Haunted Hayride Adds an '80s Rock Maze and Brings Back Elvira- Queen Mary's Dark Harbor Will Murder One of Its 13 Icons Live- Midsummer Scream Moves to Anaheim for 2027- Spirit Halloween's Owner Is Buying Hot Topic- A Real Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Opens at American Dream in 2027- Diablo Mazes Land at Cedar Point and Kings Dominion- Six Flags Magic Mountain's Fright Fest Adds Final Destinationhttps://mailchi.mp/hauntedattractionnetwork.com/quality-vs-quantity-universal-and-six-flags-split-halloween

by Patrick BromleyChicago's biggest and best horror convention returns! One of my favorite weekends of the year is Chicago's annual Flashback Weekend, the horror convention created and run by Mike and Mia Kerz that takes place in Rosemont, Illinois. It's three days of panels, parties, contests, vendors, celebrity guests, live music -- everything you could want as a horror fan. This will be my sixth year hosting panels at the convention, but I've been going to Flashback much longer than just these six years. I love it.This year's Flashback features a salute to 30 years of the Scream franchise, celebrates Halloween II, a Night of the Creeps reunion, features first-time Flashback appearances from Henry Thomas, Steven Weber, and the Silent Night, Deadly Night Santas, and even has Obsession co-star Megan Lawless making her convention debut (I get to host her panel on Sunday! Come on out!). Plus, this year sees the world premiere of a brand new Full Moon movie (relevant to my interests!), in-costume photo opps, Alan Howarth playing the score to Halloween II LIVE along with the film, a tribute to Svengoolie (the greatest horror host of all time), and so much more. One of my favorite things about Flashback -- besides all the cool guests and the chance to spend the weekend surrounded by horror stuff and horror fans -- is that it's a family-run convention and really feels that way. All of the proceeds from the con go into supporting the Midway Drive-In located in Dixon, IL -- the nicest and best drive-in in Illinois -- which they bought in 2007. I love that Flashback is dedicated to preserving the big-screen theatrical experience. From this year's press release:Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror ConventionJuly 31 - Aug. 2, 2026Hyatt Regency O'Hare Chicago, Rosemont, IL  60018 Tickets now on sale at www.flashbackweekend.comFlashback Weekend Chicago Horror Convention celebrates its 25th year with a MASSIVE Celebrity guest line-up, amazing evening events, luxurious after-parties, an enormous vendor room, and special Celebrity costume Celeb Photo-Ops.All of this and more, taking place in one of the largest and most beautiful Convention hotels in the World!FLASHBACK WEEKEND 2026 SALUTES;-30 years of SCREAM! Horror Icons! Tribute to the 1980's Golden Age of Horror!"OBSESSION" (2026)!!! On this week's episode, we're joined by Chris Kelly of hard rock/metalcore band Hillhaven! Chris is a former fill in guitarist of Ice Nine Kills and is doing some incredible things with this new venture. We had an absolute blast chatting with Chris! We talked about the band's somewhat rapid success, what it was like hearing Hillhaven on SiriusXM Octane, the stories and inspiration behind some of their songs, what the future has in store for the band, and, of course, went off on a few fun tangents along the way. This was one of those conversations that didn't end when we hit stop... we kept talking long after the recording was over! Keeping that in mind we hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we enjoyed having it.

Therapy is for women. Men don't solve their problems by talking. Men solve their problems through action. So men should be doing things with other men, like building things, going out and fixing cars, whatever it is. But those kind of activities are what will help a man feel accomplished, help a man feel like he's got purpose. Just going and talking to a therapist, that's not what fixes men." What a thrill to meet the one and only Peter Criss! I'd never met or interviewed him before, and I found him great to talk with! His new solo album is out, and it's fantastic. The music covers the gamut of old rock n' roll, to the blues, to 50's rock, and much more. It's honestly one of the most diverse albums I've heard in a long time. Peter talked to me about the album and the many players on it. This record has been in the works for some time, so it's great that it's out. We also discussed coming back to Detroit Rock City. He's been in town for a few days, taking in everything the city has to offer, including museums and more. I can't say enough about how cool it was of Peter to come by the station. A special thank you to his wife GiGi, and my friends Photo Joe and Nick from Rock City Record Company, where Peter will be signing albums and more on April 24th/25th. Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills was also kind enough to come by the station a week ago. He was in town for Astronomicon and swung by to talk about that and lots more. Being a huge horror movie fan, we did talk about that genre. One of their songs, Twisting the KNife is used in Scream 7. We also talked about his dad's 80s band, Grave Diggler. You need to hear about that, then punch them up on the internet. Spencer told me about opening for Metallica, a possible paranormal sighting in Seattle, and more. I always enjoy talking with Spencer!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

"We do not look like the bands that we sound like, and we don't sound like the bands that we look like, which is what I'm kinda going for."   Lee Jennings of The Funeral Portrait boards the tour bus to talk active rock, the rising cost of touring, and the operational reality of paid VIPs.   Recorded live from their tour bus outside Allstate Arena, Lee Jennings of The Funeral Portrait joins Lizzie right before opening for I Prevail and Three Days Grace. Lee breaks down the band's aesthetic and sonic shift from 2010s scene core toward active rock, a move that recently culminated in a No. 1 Billboard Mainstream Rock hit for the band.  He details the importance of bringing theatricality back to heavy music with their "Devotion Ceremonies," drawing direct inspiration from early-2000s acts like My Chemical Romance and his love for Hawthorne Heights' Skeletons album.  The interview also tackles the harsh modern realities of being in a touring band. Lee provides a candid look at why the Warped Tour era of free meet-and-greets is over, explaining how paid VIP packages have become an operational necessity for bands facing skyrocketing merch cuts and travel costs.  Back in the studio, Brian and Lizzie debate the cultural weight of "divorced dad rock" in relation to Three Days Grace, and recap the talking points for their upcoming panel exploring emo and comic book history at C2E2.      "I think so much of it is our worlds are now meshing. Getting to form our own way has been really cool because I love being theatrical. I grew up being a theater kid, so of course it's gonna shine no matter what." "We grew up going to Warped Tour and standing in line and meeting our favorite bands for free. There was never a paid wall... Now I'm charging for VIP, and it's hard because paid VIP pays for us to actually be on tour because it is so much more expensive to be on tour now than it ever has been." "Those are the bands I grew up listening to... I loved lore-driven bands, and I think that's something that I really wanted to focus on. I want my own version of that."   JOIN THE CLUB! American Vanity joins Caught on the Mike for a deep dive into identity, image, and the evolution of modern rock. Led by dual vocalists Virginia Franks (bass) and Luke Hoffman (guitar), alongside Luke Vanchure on lead guitar and Carter Dennis on drums, the band opens up about stepping into a bold new era after years of national touring as Burn The Jukebox. Now reintroduced as American Vanity, they're sharpening their songwriting, amplifying their hooks, and confronting the tension between authenticity and performance in the attention economy. We talk creative reinvention, the pressure of being seen, lessons from the road, and what it was like working with Grammy-nominated producer Matt Squire on their upcoming full-length album. This episode goes beyond music — it's about growth, risk, and owning who you are when the spotlight fades. Listen now and subscribe for more conversations with artists pushing culture forward.

This week's episode had everything: halftime show skepticism, aquatic conspiracy theories, holographic ethics, and a little too much time in the Wasteland. We may have skipped science again… but we made up for it with sharks and Starfleet. Real Life Devon: Safe Bets and Stadium Spectacles Devon kicked things off with the Super Bowl halftime show — Green Day and Bad Bunny sharing the stage. The big question: was Green Day the safe choice? Are legacy punk bands the NFL's version of comfort food? Reliable. Recognizable. Not too disruptive. Devon wrestles with whether the performance felt bold or carefully calculated — and what that says about the league's broader decision-making. It's less about music and more about cultural positioning. When the biggest stage in America picks its soundtrack, what are they really trying to say? Ben: Jaws, Mayors, and Weresharks Ben watched Jaws with his son, and instead of simply enjoying the terror of a seaside predator, he zeroed in on the real villain: The mayor. What exactly is going on with this guy? Ben proposes several theories: Is the mayor the shark? Is the shark a metaphor? Is this some kind of Ice Nine Kills-style symbolic horror? Or… is the mayor secretly a wereshark? The conversation spirals in the best way possible. Spoiler alert: they don't get a bigger boat. Ben also makes a strong case that Starfleet Academy is not for everyone — but it is for him. That leads to a deep dive into holograms in Star Trek. Some holograms are "hard light" and physically interactive. The Doctor in Voyager was designed for short-term use… and then just kept going. What does that mean philosophically? Legally? Spiritually? And somewhere in there, Ben cautiously circles around the fate of Captain Sisko. Steven: Fallout Season 2 — A Love Letter or a Stall? Steven brings us back to the Wasteland with thoughts on the Fallout Season 2 finale. Devon, generally, is not thrilled. The season lacked momentum. The pacing felt uneven. Something didn't quite land. Steven counters with a structural theory: The three main characters represent different player archetypes. Different play styles. Different moral approaches to the same broken world. He also notes something important: there were a lot of Easter eggs. A LOT. For longtime game veterans, it was a treasure hunt. For casual viewers? Probably noise. Steven's bigger hypothesis: Season 1: Establish the world and characters. Season 2: The creators indulge in their favorite corners of the setting. Season 3: (Hopefully) we move into entirely new territory not tied to a specific game. If that happens, the show might finally become its own thing. Future or Now There was, once again, too much Fallout talk. Science gets skipped. Again. We promise nothing for next week. Book Club Next Week: "Liar!" by Isaac Asimov Read it here: https://lecturia.org/en/short-stories/isaac-asimov-liar/23933/ Classic Asimov. Robots. Logic. Emotional complications. You know the drill. This Week: "The Orchard Village Catalog" by Parker Peevyhouse https://strangehorizons.com/wordpress/fiction/the-orchard-village-catalog/ Reactions were mixed — but thoughtful. Ben: Loved the realistic corporate nonsense. Found it creepy and fascinating. Devon: Felt it might be too open-ended, but still enjoyed it. Steven: Didn't fully "get it," but appreciated the quality of the writing. Which, honestly, is sometimes the best kind of sci-fi discussion — confusion paired with admiration. Between halftime show politics, aquatic conspiracies, holographic sentience, and post-apocalyptic pacing debates, this episode covered a lot of ground. If you've got thoughts on safe Super Bowl picks, weresharks, or where Fallout should go next, we want to hear them. And maybe next week… we'll finally talk about science.

Horror goes pretty hand-in-hand with metal, especially because a lot of musicians incorporate horror imagery and references into their sound and aesthetic. Slipknot, Rob Zombie and Ice Nine Kills are just a few examples of artists who are often associated with the horror genre — Corey Taylor and Zombie have literally worked on films themselves and INK base their music on different horror films.” (Loudwire)

Just in time for Halloween, Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas returns to the show for the third time to discuss the writing and recording of their chaotic 2024 single, “A Work of Art.” The song is a true audio assault, which is appropriate considering its source of inspiration: the third installment of Damien Leone's gory horror franchise Terrifier. Chris and Spencer once again explore the band's signature fusion of brutal riffs, theatrical flair, and film homage, diving deep into the cinematic soundscapes, grisly lyrical imagery, and dynamic vocals that bring the song to life. Despite the breakneck changes and interludes, it's a gigantic, undeniable chorus that brings this massive track together, and every aspect of its creation is explored in this week's episode. Lee Jennings of The Funeral Portrait joins DJ Force X for a raw and revealing conversation about their latest EP, Dark Thoughts — a theatrical and emotionally charged release exploring mental health, identity, and connection through chaos. The EP features multiple versions of the title track, including collaborations with Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria), a remix, and a live cut from their sold-out Atlanta show.Lee opens up about the catharsis of performance, the power of theatrical rock, and how Dark Thoughts became a love letter to the Coffin Crew and anyone battling inner demons. We also discuss the band's current US tour with Ice Nine Kills and In This Moment, plus their upcoming European run with The Rasmus.

It's great to reconnect with the guys from The Funeral Portrait. All the boys came by: singer Lee Jennings, guitarists Cody Weissinger and Caleb Freihaut, with bassist Robert Weston, and drummer Homer Umbanhower. Their album Greetings From Suffacate City is about to turn one on September 13th, and it's been a whirlwind year for the boys. From a tour with Five Finger Death Punch and Marilyn Manson, to this summer's tour with Ice Nine Kills. Before their show locally, they swung by the station to speak with me about everything TFP. You can watch the conversation in the link above. I met the guys for the first time last year as we visited Eloise Insane Asylum. You can hear the audio that was captured here. New Music From The Funeral Portrait "A little baby bit...we have less than a handful of stuff" was how Caleb described the progress on new music from the band. He said that they've been pounding the road so hard they haven't had a chance to start on anything new. "We have a small amount, but what we have is exciting." He went on to say it has to be bigger than "Greetings". Lee chimed in, "It has to be next-level because of the tours we've done." He said they're playing to so many new people each night that new fans are discovering the album. Working With Ivan Moody on "Holy Water The song 'Holy Water' was released as a single pre-COVID. When they went to re-release the song earlier this year, Ivan Moody from Five Finger Death Punch told the guys he wanted to be on the track. "It just so happens that Ivan liked the song. And he wanted to be on it. It was kind of a magical, weird moment of him being "I want to help this band out. I like them. They're cool, they're different, they're young." Kind of like a torch passing moment, and it just worked." The guys were nice enough to bring their guitars, so they busted out two songs for us. Their next single is "Dark Thoughts" and "Holy Water". They also talked about how welcoming the INK band and their fans have been to them. And get this, they're heading off on a European tour this fall. I want them to take me with them!! The boys have had an amazing year, and I wish them nothing but the best moving forward! I'm a fan!

Let's help you over that hump! I'm off to Madison later today to see Ice Nine Kills & Dayseeker at the Sylvee. Looking forward to a quick night out on the town. In the news this morning, Vice President JD Vance is coming to La Crosse tomorrow, Ryan Borgwardt was sentenced for faking his own death & fleeing the country, a recall on Hostess Ding Dongs, Cracker Barrel caves to the pressure and goes back to the original logo, and of course…the news of the day…the week…the year…it's the engagement of Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce. In sports, the Brewers walked-off the Diamonbacks last night, MLB released it's 2026 schedule, a look at this week's NCAA football line-up, and Willson Contreras gets suspended. Elsewhere in sports, Becky Lynch said some disparaging things about Ozzy's hometown and now Kelly Osbourne is PISSED! The NCAA & Venmo have teamed up to try and end athlete abuse from gamblers, Caitlin Clark gets her very own NIKE logo, and a guy in Tennessee named "Babe Ruth" is in trouble for trying to submit phony claims in class action lawsuits. A recent survey found that 33% of people have NEVER stolen toiletries from a hotel. And another 33% of people would support sending the National Guard to their hometown to clean things up. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight and discussed a list of the best fart scenes in the movies. A woman in Australia posted a video of her mailman taking her laundry off the line when it began to rain while he was delivering her mail, and a dude dug through 20 tons of trash & sludge to find his wife's lost wedding ring. We discussed the hot, new exercise "trend", and an interesting story about Esports professionals talking to kids about trying to become a professional gamer. In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about Google A.I. giving out incorrect restaurant specials, the Orgy Dome at Burning Man got damaged and won't be available for the music festival, an EXTREMELY drunk Iowa woman is in trouble for trying to get random people to blow into her interlock device at a gas station, a guy who set a restaurant on fire after they ran out of mayo, and a woman in Russian who had to go to the hospital after a giant cucumber got stuck in her ass.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He had to run offstage in the middle of his concert when his wife Amber went into LABOR on his TOUR BUS. Taking the stage, he talked about the car only having 1100 miles and how it was "too much car" for him as it's overpowering. He added that he never hit its top speed of 217 miles-per-hour, and that it's "not a La Ferrari, it's THE Ferrari." Weezer one of the first music groups to have a presence in Fortnite, opening a "Weezer World" in 2019. They are back, and this time they're part of an open-world crime simulator game called Sweat(er) City that's inspired by The Blue Album. The features in the game include being able to use a weaponized guitar that plays the "Buddy Holly," a battle with Rivers Cuomo using a sweater yarn stun gun and a blue wall where players can snap selfies to recreate the album cover. Check out a trailer for the game on YouTube. TV Jake Paul has issued a $5 million challenge to heavyweight legend Mike Tyson ahead of their November 15th bout.
