Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #589 is an inspired hour of visionary acoustic improvisational music played by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, shruti box, mandolin, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Bob Sherwood on piano and bass guitar and Craig Harris on congas and Native drum and again featuring special guest, prominent Turkish folk artist Ludingirra Ozdemir on vocals and Saz, a guitar-like instrument that incorporates microtonal scales.  Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in early September of 2024, today's show begins with the relaxed, mystical strains of “Oh Summer Day”, a beautiful improvisation characterized by a three-way dialogue between Mariam's vocal and Native flute and Ludingirra's Saz.  “Early In The Morning” is another staid, spacious piece with a gorgeous vocal from Mariam and imaginative, compelling piano from Bob and Ludingirra takes center stage on vocals with his exotic, deeply reverent “Ela Ciozlu Pirim Geldi”.  Mariam then picks up her chiming mandolin for the lush, magical “Slow Down”, a pretty ballad that increases up in energy until Bob's gorgeous classical piano coda and “Youldum” is another powerful, meditative, unusual piece from Ludingirra featuring fine backup vocals and Native flute from Mariam.  “Here We Go All Over Again” is a pretty folk song from Mariam led by her lovely vocal and acoustic guitar and featuring Bob on bass guitar and “Reborn” from Mariam's “Vision Quest” album is given a powerful reading with Craig's driving congas, more bass guitar from Bob and a fine vocal from Mariam.  We conclude today's show with Mariam's powerful Goddess/environmental anthem “Queen Of Heaven” from the “Gaea Star Goddesses” album. Eddie Martin joins me on episode 106.Eddie has been described as the ambassador of British Blues, having released seventeen albums over his near fifty year career, with many of the songs self-penned by Eddie. He started out as a one-man band, but also performs as part of his own bands too. In either format Eddie makes extensive use of rack harmonica, and is one of the leading players of using a rack, while also playing some hand-held harmonica as well. In this episode I leave very early in the morning to be able to fit six casinos into my day. I had to scheduled meetings that I had to be a part of as well. That along with approximately 8 hours of driving made it difficult to fit everything in. I started this channel by reading from the little book “I've got to talk to somebody, God” a woman's conversations with God by Marjorie Holmes. It has been such a blessing. I didn't know what direction the Lord would take this channel after we finished that book. In true form, God has provided. He put it on a faithful supporter heart to purchase and to send me another book by Marjorie Holmes titled “Hold me up a little longer, Lord”. I'm so excited I started using it today in this episode. A little back story on these devotions. I'm an avid thrifter and I love old books. One day while out, God placed an old book in my path. I had no idea how this little book would completely take me to a new place in God and with my life. I shared the book with my YouTube family and they ask me to share readings from it with them. God began to stir in me about doing just that. After a bit of conflict from some on my main channel, (they didn't like the “devotionals”), I called out to my prayer warrior friends. After much prayer, I started a completely new channel devoted to all things God!! I read a “conversation/ prayer” from this book God put in my path and He gives me the words and interpretation. So what is the book? It's an older book copyright in 1968. The title is “I've got to talk to somebody, God” a woman's conversations with God by Marjorie Holmes. Rav Haim Palachi (Izmir, Turkey, 1788-1869), in his work Kaf Ha'haim (3:11), describes the feelings of regret that many people will experience upon leaving this world, when they will no longer have the ability to see. They will bemoan the fact that during their time in this world, when they had the opportunity to use their eyes for Torah study, they instead used them for sleeping. Rather than arising early in the morning and staying awake late at night engaged in Torah study, many people allow themselves the comfort of arising late and going to sleep early. Rav Haim advises that a person should "distance himself from death" as much as possible during his lifetime, by limiting his sleep and using his time constructively, by learning Torah.He cites in this context a comment of the Zohar concerning a verse in Tehillim (104:1) in which King David exclaims, "Bless God, my soul!" The Zohar explains that David made this exclamation upon contemplating the strict judgment to which a person is subjected once he leaves this world. David then said to himself, "Bless God," meaning, that he must take advantage of the opportunity he has during his lifetime to praise God. Indeed, toward the end of this chapter, King David proclaims, "I shall sing to God during my life; I shall sing praise to my God while I still exist." A person must realize that his time in this world is limited, and thus ensure not to waste it by indulging in sleep and other vanities.Several passages later (3:14), Rav Haim Palachi cites the Halachic precept, "Ha'ba Le'horgecha – Hashkem Le'horgo." According to the plain interpretation, this means, "One who comes to kill you – act quickly to kill him." The Sages here establish the rule allowing a person to kill somebody who tries to kill him. Additionally, however, Rav Haim explained this comment as a reference to the Yeser Hara (evil inclination), which tries to kill a person spiritually. The way to combat the Yeser Hara, the Sages here teach, is "Hashkem L'horgo," which can be read to mean, "Arise early to kill him." We can resist the Yeser Hara's efforts to lead us to sin by arising early in the morning for prayer and Torah study, rather than allowing ourselves the luxury of staying in bed. It therefore behooves us to limit our sleeping hours to whatever extent possible, so that we ensure to capitalize on the limited opportunity we have during our lifetime to pray and study Torah.
