WHAT IS CLASSIC ROCK? If you had asked back in 1990, bands like Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf and The Doors would have come to mind. But as the years have gone by, and so many groups have been around that much longer, it's a phrase that has come to encompass countless other artists. Metallica may be regarded as a thrash band, and Guns N Roses a hair metal band, but they've been around for 38 and 42 years, respectively - they're classic rock now. Their music has become woven into the fabric of our collective lives. Their songs have helped to define an era. And this far into their careers, their days are numbered. This is not a eulogy for classic rock bands; rather, it's a wake up call. Join Toddzilla and Corey as they celebrate the greatest rock bands of our time, and the inevitable end that they will all come to. Kent Collins grew up as a Monster Kid, feeding his haunted head a steady diet of Universal Monsters and DC comics through the late 1970's and early 1980's. And then horror slashed its way into his life in a big way when he saw FRIDAY THE 13th and SLEEPAWAY CAMP. Kent and I kept showing up at the same events this past year or two, so I decided it was time to make a proper introduction from one monster kid to another. For episode #99 we peer into Kent Collins' haunted head for a look at his own experiences as a young horror fan, his love for the film SLEEPAWAY CAMP & his decision to put his money where his mouth is by investing in independent horror.
It seems like every few years movie fans are treated to a heaping helping of deja vu, when Hollywood releases a series of similarly-themed films. In 1996, there was TWISTER and its doppelganger TORNADO starring Bruce Campbell. In 1997 we got DANTE'S PEAK and VOLCANO. 1998 brought us the extinction-level comet crisis films DEEP IMPACT and the macho cheese of Michael Bay's ARMAGEDDON. So for episode #98 I thought I'd talk about the wave of undersea creature features of 1989 which included DEEPSTAR SIX, LEVIATHAN, THE ABYSS and LORDS OF THE DEEP. Plus the new book by R.G. Henning about FRIDAY THE 13th Part 3, Blue Öyster Cult's new release 'Ghost Stories', the Texas Frightmare Weekend countdown watch list and more. Welcome to episode #97 of My Haunted Head, and the Golden Age of Video. Specifically, horror on video. Today's episode is a look back at some of the most memorable titles from the 80's heyday of horror on video. The garish artwork, the titillating titles, and the promise that the movies lining the shelves had such sights to show you. EVIL DEAD, DRILLER KILLER, MONSTER DOG, ROCKTOBER BLOOD, ALIEN, CREEPERS, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Part 2, NAIL GUN MASSACRE, HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS, FACES OF DEATH, STREET TRASH and a mountain of other classic horror titles await you! Episode #96 of MY HAUNTED HEAD (originally recorded as Episode #63) has apparently been collecting dust down in the vault for the past year or so. So we've dusted it off, and now bring you this extensive, (mostly) unedited walk down memory lane as Toddzilla and Matthew discuss all of the incredible film heroes whom we've met at conventions, and who are unfortunately no longer with us. Included are meetings with Stuart Gordon, David Hess, Gunnar Hansen, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Ted White, John Saxon and many more. Lots of great memories, and a few laughs along the way. Listen now on your favorite podcast app. RATE, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE!
Following 1968's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, George A. Romero directed a pair of non-horror films (THE AFFAIR and SEASON OF THE WITCH) that have either eluded or underwhelmed longtime fans who preferred the darker and gruesome later work he is most known for. But in 1973 George Romero completed THE CRAZIES, a film steeped in chaos and fear. THE CRAZIES tells a story of contagion in a small community, the effect it has on the townspeople as it spreads and the struggle against military forces who try to contain and eradicate the threat. One of Romero's early "dark horse" films! Also a discussion of the 2010 remake of TEH CRAZIES, and a remembrance of DAWN OF THE DEAD's David Emge. Listen on your favorite podcast app. Please Review, Share and SUBSCRIBE!
KNIGHTRIDERS was not only one of George A. Romero's rare non-horror films, and one of his personal favorites of his own films, but it has a lot to offer fans of Romero classics like MARTIN, DAWN OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW and DAY OF THE DEAD. With the involvement of actors and collaborators spanning NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 1968 to LAND OF THE DEAD in 2005, the collective talent behind KNIGHTRIDERS is a bridge of sorts between all of Romero's films - a mix of where George Romero had been, and where he was going. Episode #94 of My Haunted Head takes a look at one of Romero's most ambitious, and underappreciated, films. Plus news about a new book by PHANTASM director Don Coscarelli, and Joe Lynch's new film SUITABLE FLESH starring Barbara Crampton. Listen now on your favorite podcast app. SUBSCRIBE, Rate and Review!
Whether it was one of his many appearances on television, or one of the many genre films he did in the late 70's and early 80's, Christopher George left an indelible mark in television and film. In much the same way that actor Robert Forster brought a believable everyman quality to a variety of roles, Christopher George was able to slip comfortably from drama to action and horror in a way that made him relatable, and the material believable. He was a rugged, handsome, charismatic actor who elevated every project he appeared in. He should be held in the same regard as actors like Roy Scheider, Robert Forster and Lance Henriksen. Though his body of work included war films, comedies, sci-fi and action, for episode #93 we will focus on the prison drama, nature-run-amok, vigilante justice, zombie apocalypse, classic slasher, ninja and occult films he did from 1973-1983. Whether you're new to his work, or a long-time admirer, please join My Haunted Head in a celebration of the films of Christopher George.

When we watch our favorite horror films, we all think “What would I do in that situation?” Or we yell at the screen “Idiot - you deserve to die! That would never happen to me!” In this episode Toddzilla and Matthew kick around some situations, and discuss whether they think they would survive their favorite horror movies. In doing so, they need to be realistic in their assessment of how they would react in a sometimes unrealistic situation. How would they fare when there's a killer on the loose, or the dead rise from their graves? Put yourself in your favorite horror films. Will you be the victim or the victor?

Frank Henenlotter's films are hard to nail down. They're not conventional horror films so much as they are bizarre dramas featuring extreme (and often fantastical) physical deformity, addiction, sex, violence and bloodshed. All filtered through a darkly comic lens. In much the same way David Cronenberg's films are not for everyone, the same could be said for Frank Henenlotter's films. But if you haven't seen his films, you're missing out. Join me for a look at some of the most boldly original films of the horror and exploitation genre, and the man who made them. Welcome to the sexy, violent, bloody and laugh-out-loud funny films of Frank Henenlotter.

"In space, no one can hear you scream” was the tagline on the poster. But audiences could be heard screaming when Ridley Scott's terrifying science fiction masterpiece ALIEN opened in theaters in May of that year. Since its release in 1974, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE has held a reputation as one of the most terrifying horror movies ever made. In the 1980's, a decade during which countless horror franchises were built, it seemed natural that a film like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE would spawn a sequel. But for more than a decade, the saw remained silent. Until 1986, when director Tobe Hooper dragged his demented Sawyer clan back out of the shadows, and Cannon Films unleashed THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2. Join Toddzilla for a closer look at the legacy of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2. Available on your favorite podcast app. Please Like and SUBSCRIBE!
