As people planning a wedding, it can be really annoying when your wedding guests don't follow what we assume are basic wedding etiquette rules. Why can't they RSVP on time? Why do they keep asking about a plus one? Why do they think it's okay to show up late to the ceremony? On this episode of The Unconventional Wedding Planning Podcast, we're covering the first 14 of 27 wedding etiquette rules that guests should follow before the wedding and at the ceremony. PLUS how you, as the married couple to-be, can make life easier for your guests and encourage them to actually follow these rules!PS: This was originally going to be all 27 rules in one episode, but I got chatty. So stay tuned for part two where we talk rules for the reception and after the wedding!Have a wedding planning question or episode idea? Let me know what you want to hear! In the age of gender equality, some may consider “ladylike” or “gentlemanly” conduct old-fashioned, snobbish, or just plain unnecessary. But there are still those of us who want to show sophisticated and refined behavior. In this video, we'll tell you about all the rules of ladylike behavior that are necessary to know in order to be revered by those around you and make your life more comfortable. And for the gentlemen out there feeling left out, you can learn from some of these too! TIMESTAMPS When you have guests 1:03 When you are a guest 1:18 In a restaurant 1:42 Communication rules 2:37 Table manners 3:00 General rules 3:58 Public coatrooms 4:27 Car etiquette 5:05 If guests come to your home for the first time, show them where the bathroom is so they can freshen up. After that, you can invite them to join the others. Bring a small gift for the host. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Try a bottle of wine, a box of cookies, or perhaps something for their vacation home or hobby. If you need to brush your hair, do it in the ladies' room. Nobody wants to find a hair on their plate or on the table. Don't forget about etiquette rules at home. For instance, it's rude to shout to another person from a different room. Besides, you might get used to doing this, and it'll make guests feel uncomfortable. Don't take forever choosing the best piece of food on the serving plate. Take the nearest piece to you. You wouldn't want to give the impression of being selfish and greedy, would you? If you're on a low-sitting chair, don't cross your legs. Hold your knees together and lean them to the side. This is called “the Duchess Slant”. You can, however, cross your legs at the ankles, also known as “the Cambridge Cross”. Are there any other etiquette rules you consider really important? Then tell us about them in the comments section! SUMMARY So if you feel that you're a real lady inside but are just a bit confused by all the intricacies of proper behavior, don't worry! Etiquette rules are quite simple if you just give them a try and incorporate them into your lifestyle. Plus, let's be honest, no matter what gender you are, nobody wants to come off as uncivilized or rude to others! Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real talk! Happy Valentine's Day! The wine will be flowing this week! Just in time to prepare for your romantic activities around Love day, we're talking etiquette rules that we believe will help you avoid annoying friends and prospective romantic partners. See this article from The Cut for our inspiration to discuss etiquette rules. STFU and give your friends or partners a chance to talk, don't make splitting the bill so damn complicated, and strip the bed linens after staying at someone else's house! "You'll float too:" Forget Tiktok, surveillance balloons are all the rage for international spy activities! Why didn't the US military shoot down the balloon sooner? Cause it weighed over 2,000 pounds and was taller than the Statue of Liberty. Has anyone told Congressional Republicans this wasn't a Party City balloon? BUT ALSO: The U.S. shot down three additional unidentified flying objects, but assures us they definitely weren't aliens. Suuuuuure Jan. Netflix and AMC are trying to redefine experiences their brands helped build: just in time for Valentine's Day, love is no longer sharing a password. And going to the movies is equivalent to going to a concert or other event! Will people accept Netflix up-charging for sharing an account or AMC trying to rebrand the theater-going experience? Naaaaah. Apathy will probably kick in though. This week's recommendations are all over the map: Americans, find out how much you will get in Social Security payments in retirement by going to SSA.gov (Andrew), Rare Beauty's Illuminating Primer (Laura), and StoryGraph (Pam). This week's show is sponsored by Hello Fresh (link here). Support #Millennial by supporting our sponsors! And in this week's installment of After Dark, available on Patreon and Apple Podcasts: We're going on a three-way polygamous date to find out if these 36 questions can help us fall in love (even more) with each other. Why is Andrew asking so many questions about death on a first date? Seems sus. Things get pretty vulnerable and deep. We're gonna take this to second base later.
Our most faithful listener Andy Dennis stops by to chat with us about a new article outlining all the new things we need to know about etiquette, and opens up about his thoughts on the importance of evangelism and why Christians struggle with it.
