Tournament director Don Padgett III talked with The Landscape about what's in store for this year's tournament, which features the world's best senior golfers as well as concerts and family-friendly activities. He also discussed the important role the tournament plays in raising money for a variety of Akron-area charities.

Another Bridgestone Senior Players championship is in the books, and unlike 2020, fans were welcomed back to Firestone Country Club, and braved the heat to check out some golf. Don Padgett III is the executive director of the Bridgestone Senior Players, and he joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to recap the weekend that was at the South Course. Padgett was pleased with the return of the crowds, and he thanked all the volunteers and charities who took part in the third Seniors tournament. Steve Stricker won the tournament over last year's winner, Jerry Kelly, after an interesting final round. The contract for the Seniors tour is up after 2022, and Padgett says they hope to have it renewed and continue on, as next year's tournament is slated to begin July 6th, 2022.

His decision is…..not to run. “The Don” mentions his thought process, he stuck up for Mayor Dan Horrigan, and he blasted city council on multiple occasions. 22:22 - Senator Sherrod Brown called into the program. Some of the topics he and Ray touched on were Democrat tax plans in the senate, full legalization of gambling in Ohio, and the controversy over Medicare and rising drug costs. 28:40 - Hello, friends. The Masters is upon us. Some of those golfers will be a part of the Bridgestone Senior Players at Firestone Country Club, which is just three months away. Executive director Don Padgett talked about both the events in Augusta and in Akron. 34:15 - Spring has sprung, and it’s time for the return of our master gardener, Jeanne Poremski. The main topic discussed was the lawsuits and dangers over the Roundup weed killer.

Basically, the debate boiled down to “why do we need military-style weaponry?” Ray and Jeanne asked that question, while Tony and Steffany took the other side. 20:50 - Speaking of age limits and bans, Cuyahoga Falls could be the next city to raise the age of buying tobacco products to 21. Mayor Don Walters called in to talk about the initiative coming from the Summit County Health Department to raise the ages, not just for cigarettes but for vaping. 25:54 - How much of a problem is vaping with young people? A sizable one, apparently, if high schoolers are partaking in this activity. 33:03 - Executive director of the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship, Don Padgett, came on for his weekly visit with Ray. The tournament will be held July 11-14th at Firestone Country Club.

There's a little bit more to it than what's being reported... 32:22 - The weather is warming up in the forecast, which means it’s almost time to hit the links! Horrigan also talked to Ray about the cyber attack from weeks back and Russ Neal’s idea for a cloud-based system. 15:59 - It’s 2019, and the perception and stigma of marijuana isn’t what it used to be. In fact, it seems to be more accepted in the culture now. But can it be a gateway drug, or is alcohol still the cause and effect? The panel debates. 33:33 - The All-American Soap Box Derby isn’t just about making a car and rolling down a hill. They’ve been very innovative as far as getting students interested in STEM and other after school programs, which is what Derby president and CEO Mark Gerberich mentioned this morning.

Tiger has 18 of those wins and no one else has won more than 3 of them. Holly and Bob talk about the buzz going on in the golf world and the buzz around Rory McIlroy and the upcoming Ryder Cup. Rory says that he only wants to focus on the next major championship and not how many he will win. They also discuss Jim Furyk being so close and not being able to close the deal on the final day.  Jeff Shain, PGATour.com, joins the team and talks about the WGC Bridgestone at Firestone Country Club. Jeff covers the golf courses that the PGA events are played on throughout the season for PGATour.com. He feels that Adam Scott has set himself up pretty well for the final run of the season and has been playing really well of late.
