Firestone Country Club has played host to professional golf tournaments since 1954, including three major championships, the former World Series of Golf and the current WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. But this weekend, the world's best golfers will tee it up in Akron for the final time before the tournament moves to Memphis next year. Doug Ferguson has covered golf for the Associated Press for 20 years, and he has been on hand for nearly every big moment at Firestone over the past two decades. On a special episode of The Nail, Ferguson shares some classic tales from Firestone's storied history—many of which prominently involve Tiger Woods, who has won in Akron eight times and will play Firestone for the first time since 2014 this weekend. From the “Shot in the Dark” to Sunday showdowns to an approach shot that rolled off the clubhouse roof and ended up in the cart of a guy delivering crunchy cream pies, if you've ever been to Firestone, this is an episode you won't want to miss. *** Don't forget: Travis is once again riding in Pelotonia to raise money for cancer research. Dr Bob Winters, David Leadbetter Academy, is the special guest in studio with Holly G. Dr Bob deals with some of the greatest players in the world and is one of the leading mental coaches. Holly and Dr Bob talk about Dustin Johnson and coming back to golf and recount the penalty DJ incurred during the PGA Championship a few years ago. European Tour player Shane Lowry wins the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by two shots holding off Justin Rose, Jim Furyk and Bubba Watson. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls into the show from Whistling Straits. Holly asks Bob about Rory McIlroy's return to the game after what looked like a horrific injury some 6 weeks or so ago. Bob said that Rory is looking and playing well. His number one ranking in the world is on the line as Rory comes back to the game. Jordan Spieth has come on strong this year in McIlroy's absence and threatens to overtake McIlroy as the number one player in golf. Holly asks Bob Harig about Dustin Johnson coming so close but not being able to finish the tournament after leading several rounds heading into the final day. Bob feels that the chances of Dustin or any other golfer repeating the penalty five years ago are so remote and he feels it is getting too much attention. Dr Bob asks Bob Harig about the set up of Whistling Straits. Compared to Chambers Bay and the Open Championship, the greens and the fairways are lush green. If the weather is good the scoring should be good. Pete Dye course at it finest. There was a bunch of rain on Monday which softened things up considerably but its 7,500 yards but with the conditions it will play even longer. Holly recants the darkness last year at Valhalla with Bob and all the chaos that ensued as the PGA, Mickelson, Fowler and McIlroy tried to get the final holes finished so they didn't have to come back the next day for one or two holes. Bob said that "It could have been really bad. Rory was trying to see what Phil and Ricky did and didn't have to play his second shot with as much pressure." The PGA wanted to get it done and the weather was such a factor but maybe could have moved the tee times up that morning to help. Holly asks Dr. Bob what it takes to breakthrough? What's the mental difference between closing the deal, choking or just being able to stay in the moment. Hitting the shots in the moment. It comes down to are you a clutch or are you going to choke. The best players in the world get the ball in the hole in the most efficient way. They prepare themselves for these types of moments. They become very consistent with their mind set and break it down to the simplest common denominator. Don't let the enormity of the situation control the outcome. I don't have to make this any bigger than what it is. It takes a lot of time and discipline to do that and that's why they come to see Dr Bob Winters and others like him.

Todd Lewis, The Golf Channel, calls in from Valhalla and says that Tiger Woods will play in the PGA Championship. The injury is a different spot in Tiger's lower back and it's not the same injury he had surgery for earlier. Jeff asks Todd if this all seems rushed for Tiger. He tees off in 14 hours and he is out playing the back 9 at the time of this broadcast. Todd says he doesn't feel Tiger would be here if he didn't think he could play and do well. Tiger said that he is pain free and he is fine. Todd wants to know if Tiger "trusts" his back and his explosiveness through his swing? Todd said also that Tiger has not played well this season. Holly and Todd talk about Tiger and the upcoming Ryder Cup team for this year's competition. Tiger is well outside the Top 200 of the FedEx Cup spots and is not actually qualified on points for an automatic Ryder Cup birth. Holly and Todd recap the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational results and how well Sergio, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy all played and what it looks like for each of their chances. Todd feels that Rory's driving ability gives him an advantage at Valhalla. He hits it so long, so straight and with little fear. Brian Hewitt, Global Golf Post Editor, calls in to talk to Holly G and Jeff about the PGA Championship. Brian likes Graham DeLaet and Lee Westwood for the Championship. Sergio Garcia and Graeme McDowell are two guys you have to like for the PGA Championship. Brian talks to the duo about Tiger and his injuries and what his chances are? There was intense coverage of his warm up round earlier today. Brian thinks that any kind of survival Tiger will have to back it off a little bit and he is not sure Tiger is wired that way. Holly talks to Brian about Charles Schwartzel and Rickie Fowler's golf games of late and their chances. Player of the Year seemed almost a lock for Martin Kaymer but now with Rory's success and the way Rickie Fowler has played all year it's not that easy to give it to Kaymer. Jeff asks Brian about Butch Harmon's, One of the World's Top Golf Teachers, work with Fowler and what is different? Jeff Babineau, Golfweek editor, calls in from the press center of Valhalla and talks about the injuries to some of the players in the field. Jeff Shain and Babineau talk about the Ryder Cup team and the last Ryder Cup for the U.S. has left a bad taste in a lot of the player's mouths. It's been about four months since Tiger's surgery so the fact that he is out there competing is huge. In Bob's article he points out the more than 40% of Tiger's wins have been at WGC events, which are "stacked" events with the best players in the world. Tiger has 18 of those wins and no one else has won more than 3 of them. Holly and Bob talk about the buzz going on in the golf world and the buzz around Rory McIlroy and the upcoming Ryder Cup. Holly recently went through the extensive 2 and 1/2 to 3-hour custom-fitting course for all the clubs in her bag with Travis. After playing most of her life, she was surprised that they fitted her for a 1/2 inch shorter length of shafts which she said has made a world of difference. Custom fitting in the broadest sense is building a club designed to match your individual swing characteristics so that you hit the ball longer and straighter with better control. TaylorMade Performance Labs is able to provide golfers with "Golf's Ultimate Fitting Experience" utilizing the same revolutionary advancements in motion capture technology seen in such films as Lord of the Rings, Polar Express, King Kong, Batman, and The Tiger Woods Video Game.
