Struggling to achieve your goals? Today's guest, Marques Ogden, former NFL player turned speaker and coach, is living proof that you can rise above fear and hardships. From having only $400 to owning his own home, his story will inspire you to keep pushing forward. After leaving professional football, Marques faced challenges including bankruptcy and having to rebuild his life from scratch. But through resilience, mentorship and helping others, he turned things around. Listen in as Marques discusses his journey - from growing up with a single father, to playing in the NFL, and the struggles he faced post-football. He also offers valuable advice on dealing with fear, building community, and transitioning careers. Marques's story will inspire and motivate you to keep pushing forward no matter what obstacles you encounter in life. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Seeking mentorship and resources in your post-game transition Lessons from his construction company Personality ethics vs. character ethics The four V's of overcoming fear Episode Highlights: [08:48] Navigating Post-Game Transition: Mentorship and Utilizing Available Resources Recognizing the reality of transitioning after a professional sports career is vital. Athletes can navigate this shift effectively by seeking mentorship and utilizing resources provided by organizations like the NFL, which has initiatives such as NFL Legends, NFLPA, NFL Trust, and NFL Alumni. This guidance is invaluable for any athlete, current or aspiring, as there will inevitably come a time to transition post-game – a truth known even to stars like Tom Brady, who chose to step away from a $375 million contract. This emphasizes the importance of intelligent decision-making during significant life transitions. As you're making a life transition, whether you're an athlete or not, it's important to seek mentorship, find guidance, and surround yourself with the right influences. [16:32] Personality Ethics vs. Character Ethics Personality ethics feed your ego and can include things like rage, wrath, envy, and lust. Living based on personality ethics risks imploding at some point. In contrast, character ethics are virtues like loyalty, truth, justice, and honor. Marques says he now tries to live his life and conduct his business based on character ethics rather than personality ethics. This includes owning up to mistakes, fixing issues, and having difficult but important conversations to resolve conflicts in an authentic way. Character ethics will lead to healthier relationships and long-term success compared to letting your ego be driven by personality ethics. [23:44] Overcoming Fear Through Visualization, Vocalization, Voting, and Vicinity When discussing how he overcame fear while living in an apartment unsure of his future, Marques shares a formula he used: Visualization - He visualized where he wanted to be even if he didn't know how to get there. This helped keep his mind focused on his goal. Vocalization - He vocalized positive self-talk to affirm he was capable and worthy. This could be internal meditation or external manifestation. Voting - Every day he took positive actions like podcast interviews, emails, etc. to "cast positive votes" toward his vision. Vicinity - He changed who he spent time with to surround himself with supportive people instead of toxic influences. Marques says using these four V's - visualize, vocalize, vote, vicinity - is how you can overcome fear and start flowing with positivity to manifest your desired outcomes. It's a framework he recommends for anyone feeling stuck in fear. Just in time for Super Bowl LVII, Raquel Micit and Ryan Miner welcomed former Super Bowl champion and NFL player Kyle Richardson to The Senior Soup Podcast to discuss aging as an athlete and the NFL Alumni Health's partnership with Amada Senior Care. This is Episode 13 of The Senior Soup Podcast. Kyle Richardson is the co-director of NFL Alumni Health, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The NFL Alumni Association (NFL Alumni). He discussed his career journey - one that led him into a healthcare and medical sales career after retiring from the NFL and then later co-directing the NFL Alumni Association, his current professional role. The NFL Alumni Association is a 501 [c] [3] organization supporting former NFL employees, players, coaches, cheerleaders, spouses, and more! The Association's mission is to ensure former NFL employees are cared for medically and legally. Kyle discusses the organization's mission to support its athletes and how it has been a priority for the NFL Alumni Association for many years. The conversation discussed the mission statement of an association focused on caring for its own, including retired athletes. Raquel and Ryan discussed with Kyle the importance of taking care of oneself and the various resources available to former NFL players with NFL Alumni Health. The Senior Soup Podcast co-host Raquel Micit is the owner of Amada Senior Care in Montgomery County, Maryland. Kyle and Raquel discussed Amada Senior Care's nationwide partnership with NFL Alumni Health. Kyle accredited Tafa Jefferson, a former NFL player and the founder and CEO of Amada Senior Care, as the driving force behind the partnership between NFL Alumni Health and Amada Senior Care. Tafa's NFL background, as well as Tafa's mother's experience as a caregiver, gave Tafa the empathy and understanding to create a high-quality national franchise home care service. As a result, Amada Senior Care became the preferred national home care brand to partner with NFL Alumni Health. In the takeaway segment, Kyle, a former Baltimore Raven, left the audience with this important takeaway: “It's never too early to start investing in your healthcare,” especially professional athletes and retired NFL players, and to remain committed to “the game of life.” Finally, Kyle recalls his Baltimore Raven's 2001 Super Bowl XXXV victory over the New York Giants and what his team's Super Bowl victory meant for Baltimore City and the state of Maryland.
He knew he needed a scholarship if he wanted to go to college. Gus Frerotte grew up in a blue-collar Pennsylvania home steeped in hard work and toughness. He played 3 sports in high school and despite being at a small school with barely enough boys to play football, the quarterback position gave him a full ride to college. He was recruited by many and opted in to Tulsa where he played as as redshirt freshman when TJ Rubley went down with an injury. He finished as Tulsa's 2nd ranked all-time passer behind Rubley and was drafted by the then-Washington Redskins in the 7th round of the 1994 draft. He had some good years in Washington and was a Pro Bowler after the 1996 season. Then in 1997, he celebrated scoring a touchdown by ramming his head into a wall on Sunday Night Football. He sprained his neck, fell out of favor with Washington and moved on to the Lions. After one season with Detroit, he was released and landed in Denver to back up Brian Griese. He led the Broncos into the playoffs in 2000 after Griese was hurt, but after two years in Denver, was told he could move on. Four more teams followed (including two stints with the Vikings) and Gus eventually retired in 2009. Gus credits his ability to recover from setbacks and move on to his wife Annie and his support system. In retirement, he's been a high school coach and entered the business world. Currently Gus runs NFL Alumni Ventures Podcasts, a podcasting platform for NFL Alumni giving former players an unfiltered way to tell their stories.

Earlier this year, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed Universal ESA's into law within the state. Arizona, already a school choice leader, was suddenly propelled into the national spotlight, adding ESA's for every Arizona student to the already thriving state tuition tax credit system. When Ducey signed the law, he had Pastor Drew Anderson on hand to commemorate the moment for the media that had gathered to report the occasion. Pastor Anderson did not mince words: School choice is the defining civil rights issue of our generation. Further, he reiterated, Arizona's Universal ESA moment was the greatest civil rights moment in the United States since the founding of our country. As shocking as a statement like that may be, there was another shocker in play: Pastor Drew Anderson is a registered and politically active Democrat. Why is that shocking? In Anderson's view, school choice has largely been the domain of Republican white guys and, as a result, unless the political left wakes up to the educational perils plaguing this generation, we are going to miss out on a historical moment. So, how did Pastor Anderson buck the Democratic trends? Why is school choice a civil rights issue? Today we find out!For more information on Pastor Drew Anderson and his ministry, please click here.To read the Arizona Daily Independent op-ed pieced penned by Anderson, please follow this link.To watch the moment in which Anderson, a Democrat, was recognized, commended, and celebrated before the Arizona Senate by Arizona Republicans, please click here."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. For more information on Frameworks, please visit: https://frameworks.ncsaz.org/For more information on Northwest Christian School, visit: https://www.ncsaz.org/To reach out to Geoff Brown, please email gbrown@ncsaz.org or you can reach him by cell phone: (623)225-5573.

With 5 2020 XFL cities returning and 3 new cities joining the group for its 2023 kickoff, which XFL 2020 franchises (if any) will be making a return appearance for the 3.0 version of the XFL? We discuss.Andrew Murray returns to the program to discuss his potential theories about the XFL team name announcements next week and to run down the nuts and bolts of the XFL's newly formed partnership with the NFL Alumni Academy. We've known since April about the XFL's partnership with the NFL and specifically the Alumni Academy, but what does that mean? With hundreds of players attempting to get onto NFL rosters, how do the NFL's Alumni Academy and a spring XFL season fit into the mix? The NFL Alumni Academy recently held a Zoom call to discuss these details and more with pro football agents and we bring you the very latest plus discuss how the XFL's February to April timeline might be better equipped for certain types of players trying to make it back to the NFL as compared to the USFL's late spring start.Jason Gregor, a long-time friend of the show returns to chat all things CFL week 16. The XFL is looking for more money, TOGETHXR has dropped its trademark lawsuit against the XFL, we're chatting week 10 of the CFL, previewing the BC Lions traveling to Calgary to face the Stampeders, and interviewing a boatload of people! Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic, Paul Reeths of OurSports Central, Darrin Bauming of Bonfire Sports, former XFL Dragons member Dontez Byrd, BC Lions standout WR Dominique Rhymes and newly signed Calgary Stampeder running back Dedrick Mills all join the show!BREAKING news coming in late to the newsroom, TOGETHXR has officially and voluntarily dismissed its trademark lawsuit against the XFL. The potentially disruptive lawsuit that's been hanging over the XFL's head since their logo relaunch earlier this summer is now officially over. There's still one lawsuit hanging over the XFL (and CFL's head) by way of David Adrian Smith, but for now, the XFL can breathe at least one breath of relief. The XFL is also in the news with reports that they are looking for more money, and are willing to give up to 35-45% of the company away to investors in order to get it. We bring on Daniel Kaplan from The Athletic to get his thoughts on the XFL's movements thus far. He reacts to the USFL's 2022 season, their business model's results, and what the XFL could and should do to learn and grow from the efforts the USFL made last spring. I asked Daniel Kaplan to share his thoughts on why the XFL might be looking for investors now before they've even kicked off their inaugural XFL season and what he thinks that means for the long-term success and health of the 3.0 XFL league. Daniel Kaplan also shares some new insights into the XFL-ESPN TV deal and whether that gives the XFL a leg up over the USFL in the spring football landscape. We also chat the NFL Alumni academy and if he believes that means the NFL will give the XFL preferential treatment moving forward.Long-time fan favorite, USFL historian and owner of OurSports Central (www.oursportscentral.com) Paul Reeths returns to the show to give his take on the XFL's recently announced investor plans. We compare and contrast the fundraising efforts the USFL is doing trying to find individual owners for their 8 named USFL franchises and what it means to investors that the XFL isn't selling off teams (yet) and merely giving equity stake in the company. It's a fruitful conversation looking at how the XFL and the USFL are basically going about league building the same way, only with slight modifications likely learned from each other.Lots of CFL talk on the podcast this week from friend of the program Darrin Bauming of Bonfire Sports (www.bonfiresports.ca). Darrin talks through the biggest storylines going into CFL Week 10 including the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' dominance, the troubles the East division is facing, Saskatchewan trying to wriggle their way into a hometown Grey Cup showing, and whatever the heck is going on in Montreal with the Alouettes. We also talk about the need for fan-focused and fan-driven shows and podcasts related to the CFL and other non-NFL leagues to help build fan engagement.3 player interviews on this week's show as we catch up with former XFL Dragons WR Dontez Byrd as he looks to make his return to the XFL when they hit the field in 2023. Dontez shares his thoughts on the importance of spring football leagues and how challenging it is for alt-football players to constantly keep themselves in shape during their nonexistent off-season, never knowing when the next opportunity will arise. We also get a first-hand preview of the big BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders game this Saturday by way of Dominique Rhymes of the Lions and Dedrick Mills of the Stampeders.
