So This Is Christmas | 4 of 5 | Jesus came to die. (atonement, achievement for what we cannot do... blamelessly, as substitute) The scriptures for Pastor Tim Lien's sermon are John 10:17-18 And a Christmas Story from 1914....
In What Child Is This?, we explore the powerful prophecy of Isaiah 9:1–7, a Christmas passage that reaches far beyond the manger and into the heart of God's redemptive plan for the world. Isaiah reveals that the first rays of Messiah's light did not shine in Jerusalem's temple but in despised Galilee, a region crushed by Assyria and mocked by the world. God intentionally chose the darkest and most overlooked place to announce the coming of His Son, proving that divine hope shines brightest where human hope has failed. Galilee would later become the launch point of Jesus' earthly ministry, fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy and revealing God's grace to the humble, the broken, and the forgotten. Isaiah also unveils the identity of the Child: Wonderful Counselor, divine wisdom beyond human understanding. Mighty God, fully God in human flesh. Everlasting Father, the source and sustainer of eternal life. Prince of Peace, the One who will ultimately end all war and rebellion. This Child is not merely a baby in a manger. He is the rightful King who will sit on David's throne, rule the nations, and establish a kingdom of justice, righteousness, and everlasting peace. Scripture declares that the zeal of the Lord will accomplish this without fail. Christmas is the down payment of the Kingdom. The cradle guarantees the crown. The First Advent assures the Second. This message calls us to see Christmas not only as a moment in history, but as a promise of what is still to come.

Revelation 11:1-8; 15-19: "Then I was given a measuring rod like a staff, and I was told, "Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship there, but do not measure the court outside the temple; leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months. And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth." These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed. They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire. And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that rises from the bottomless pit will make war on them and conquer them and kill them, and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever." And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for --"

Revelation 1:1-8 "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 22:6-20 "And he said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place." "And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book." I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, but he said to me, "You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and --"

* The Prophet Isaiah: Thus saith the Lord. From the first chapter to the last, through this ministry in Judah, God's voice is heard loud and clear. Not surprisingly, the Hebrew prophet Isaiah confronts the church and the political leaders of our day as forcefully as he did 2,700 years ago the ancient nation of Israel. Bob Enyart's verse-by-verse study of the life's work of this great prophet reveals the heart of God. As we turn the pages through the book we learn without any doubt of the LORD's priorities. In this high-quality presentation of these studies, you will hear the question asked: Are God's priorities those of today's religious leaders? Are they yours? ON THIS EPISODE: We started this series back in the end of 2024, taking an intensive look at the 12 minor prophets from Hosea to Malachi. It's been a blessing, and tonight we come to the 12th and final minor prophet, the prophet Malachi. Malachi has a powerful and potent message, he prophesies of the coming of Jesus Christ at the First Advent! Not only that, Malachi offers stinging rebukes to the Jews and Israel for not doing what the LORD set them apart to do. And in that, we see the reason for the time of Jacob's trouble and the great Tribulation that is still yet to come. Tonight we will cover Part #2 in our look at Malachi the 12th and last minor prophet.

With Christmas on the horizon, what does it look like to not just take the Advent stories seriously, but also the land out of which they came?In this episode, we invite our listeners who come from the Christian tradition to encounter a new lens on Advent that recognizes the geographic, political, and economic landscapes out of which it emerged—landscapes whose terrain echoes across millennia to bring us to today, a Holy Land enveloped in war, occupation, and a desperate need for hope.Kelley Nikondeha, author of the brilliant book, "The First Advent in Palestine: Reversals, Resistance, and the Ongoing Complexity of Hope," joins us to invite us into this new lens. She helps us ask essential questions, like what was the story behind the story of the Advent narratives, how can they help us understand and engage with the modern realities of injustice and violence facing the Bethlehem community today, and how can we ask that most crucial question of the narratives: whose peace, and at what cost? --Purchase “The First Advent in Palestine” by Kelley Nikondeha If you're enjoying the podcast, become a monthly donor to Telos!Subscribe to the Telos NewsletterRead and share the Principles and Practices of Peacemaking

In the last days the mountain of the Lord's house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. All nations will stream to it. Isaiah 2:2
You know, when you think about the Christmas story - the birth of Jesus, the angels, the shepherds, the wise men - it's easy to get caught up in the sentimentality of it all. The cozy nativity scene, the baby in the manger, the promise of peace on earth. But what if I told you that the real story of Jesus's birth is much grittier, much more rooted in the harsh realities of human suffering and oppression? That's the perspective Kelley Nikondeha brings to the table. Kelley is the author of a book called "The First Advent in Palestine," and as the title suggests, she's looking at the Advent narrative through a very different lens - one shaped by her own experiences and the people she's met along the way. You see, Kelley is married to someone from Burundi, which has its own long history of colonization and trauma. And when she looks at the story of Jesus's birth, she doesn't just see the tender moments - she sees the generational pain and political upheaval that formed the backdrop for that pivotal event. It's a powerful reframing of a story we think we know so well. Because the truth is, the world Jesus was born into was a world of oppression, a world where the powerful trampled on the weak. And Kelley helps us understand how that context shaped the very nature of Jesus's mission and ministry. This is a conversation that's going to challenge the way you think about Advent and the Christmas story. It's going to ask you to look beyond the sentimental trappings and really grapple with the gritty realities of human suffering. But in doing so, it just might open your eyes to a deeper, richer understanding of the hope that Jesus brought into the world. Join us as we enter Advent. In my Sunday Service message this morning at Bethany Baptist Church, I preached on the revealing of the man of sin and how it might happen differently that most Christians might imagine. At the First Advent, many people didn't know what was going on even though it was clearly outlined in scripture. They were waiting for a King, and when they got a baby in the manger, they missed it. When the biblical man of sin is finally revealed, the majority of Christians will miss it because what they'll be seeing just might be totally different from what they're expecting. On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we look at scriptures and prophecy, Old and New Testament, related to the coming man of sin who becomes the son of perdition which is Antichrist. Outside of the Godhead, Satan and his anointed representative, Antichrist, are the most-talked about figures in the whole Bible. Satan is the most-powerful being ever created, and he is waiting right now for the start of his short-lived 7-year kingdom on this Earth. The entire world got a taste, and it was disgusting, with the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris, of what life will be like when the man of sin is revealed, and he steps into his role of the son of perdition as Antichrist. Tonight we show you it all, and take your Bible questions!

D.L interviews Kelley Nikondeha, author of First Advent in Palestine about Christian zionism, and how Palestinians view the year 1948 (often called "The Nakba" or "Catasrophe"). Kelley is the author of The First Advent in Palestine: Reversals, Resistance, and the Ongoing Complexities of Hope. You can follow her on Instagram here. Here is a great 4-page sheet outlining what happened in 1948. While John Wayne encouraged Bodie Theone to call it “The Jewish Alamo” Palestinians had another word for that year--Nakba, or “the catastrophe.” The key has become a symbol of Palestians forced from their homes in 1948 who continue to hope to go home and yet have no rights or protections under which they can do so. Here are interviews with four Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank. A Keffiyeh is a Palestinian scarf that is full of cultural significance.
